I spent an hour today looking at the note II demo unit.
One thing I could not figure out was how to keep handwriting recognition turned on all the time in apps like S Note.
I'm planning on buying the note as a replacement for my livescribe pen and pad. Once I finally figured out how to turn handwriting recognition on, it seemed to turn back off every time the app was closed and re-opened.
Certainly there is a better way than having to manually press the mic icon, pick handwriting, etc every time you open the app.
Too bad microsoft keeps OneNote so limited on mobile devices, it would be a perfect addition to the Note.

Confirmed: works with Sprint SG2 Epic Touch, Android 2.3.6
Bought this mini bluetooth keyboard (Hype) at Fry's for $19.99 (regular price). The box claims to be compatible with ipad, iphone, smartphones, netbooks and other bluetooth enabled devices. This appears to be the same one that someone posted here which sells on ebay for $10-$12.
Pros: Affordable, works with ET4G (flashed to metro/gingerbread) out of the box- just pair and go, compact- fits in your pocket, lightweight, nice looking- has a nice black finish, all keys & function seems to be working, easy to use to add contacts, no batteries needed (rechargeable ion battery)...
Cons: case can easily open up if you accidentally drop it, some keys are not too responsive (have to press hard), people with fat fingers will have issues using it if planning to use it to write a document, my PS3 does not recognize it when I scan to look for bluetooth devices (ps3 has latest firmwares)...
What comes in the box: installation cd (don't need it), keyboard, 2.0 usb cable
Overall, I will use this keyboard at work to input my appointments...so when the boss passes by- he won't think I'm on Facebook- which I am sometimes- but this time I can hide the keyboard... I don't recommend to use it as to do homework, long texts or paperwork...you will get frustrated when you realized not all keys registered... I'm sure with a little more practice, this keyboard should suffice.
Hi... I need your help.
How did you get the keyboard to hook up to your phone?
My email address is [email protected].
Thanks,
Make sure your keyboard is fully charged. Turn your keyboard on, top-side switch. Then, there is a button on the top right, press it once, should blink blue once. Turn on your bluetooth on your phone through your settings. Search for device, when it discovers your keyboard, pair it, it will give you a passcode. Enter passcode..give it a few seconds. On your phone, once it paired, it will highlight in blue. What I noticed about this keyboard is that it doesn't pair immediately sometimes, can take seconds.
I translate texts, and would like to be able to do that in more places than just while sitting with a laptop somewhere.
Even on the Note II, the screen isn't quite big enough to display the original text, the translated text and a keyboard on top of it.
So, I'm thinking of a way to read the text on screen, then verbalize the translation and have the phone commit that to writing, in the background, by way of voice recognition (a need for corrections later on is expected).
This would allow shifting the times I do work to low quality time periods like waiting for transportation to arrive etc.
Has anyone tried or done something similar to this?
I guess one option on the Note would be to have a small area to write the translation with the pen... but hands-free dictation style would be preferable.
Is there any way to lower the S-Pen sensitivty? I had the same problem with my Note 1 in that a lot of time the S-Pen would register and write something even tho it wasn't actually touching the screen. It gets annoying sometimes especially in text messages when I'm trying to use Swype to type out a quick message and it would "Swype" words or letters I wasn't even trying to use. It doesn't do it all the time but when it does it is really annoying.

I have the same problem. I suspect my S-Pen is defective. Samsung wants me to try a factory reset before they replace it but I haven't had a chance.
I was having the same issue. This is what I did and it seemed to help. With the S pen out I turned Airview off then rebooted phone. With the pen still out I turned Airview back on and again rebooted. I repeated the steps with the pen in its home. It has been about 24 hours and seems to be fine, still sensative but not writing or marking all over my work.
Hope I could help out.
I have a small business and bought the note 2 for the s-pen popup note and the larger screen. I want the seemless ability to answer a call... take down a customers info as easy as possible at any given time. I found a sweet app that helps me with one step its called speakerphoneEX in the play store. I set it to go to speaker phone when I pull the phone from my head. So with popup note enabled I can receive a call and when it is time to take down cusromer info I pull the phone from my head which puts it on speakerphone without having to push the button... then pull spen and popup note is there. When done I reinsert spen it saves note and put phone back to my ear and it goes back to earpiece. Brilliant! Now if I could have it launch a custom note app sheet instead of snote popup note when removing spen....

That's pretty cool. Sounds like one of those things I didn't know I needed, but now it's a must have.

Longtime owner, user, tweaker. I have an ongoing beef with some odd pen functions, but I am using a Wacom Feel Stylus designed for this pad. When I am randomly surfing and click on a link to open it, I get an onscreen search bar that refuses to respond to almost anthing I try to do with it. And, in my own world of necessities, the pen is my only type of input. I have limited fine motor control with my fingers and most screens do not interact well with them. Hence, the pen and the reason why I will keep this tab alive for as long as I can.
Does anybody know some hidden pen settings that will turn off this anoyingly random search bar? I guess I need a fresh pair of eyes, too. ;-Deano
btw- I do have the aftermarket(paid) pen command app but see nothing relevant in it for this minor PITA
