Uk customers is this a cheap way to get an upgrade - HTC One X

http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2012/10/finally-we-have-ees-4g-pricing-and-its-not-coming-cheap/
Says HTC one x owners who took out a contract in last 6 months can early terminate for just £99,does this mean you keep the phone and can get a new 4g one on a 2 year deal if so could you pay £99 then sell phone for £200 then get a 4g
Sent from my Transformer Pad using XDA Premium HD app

It says in the terms that the phone has to be in good condition and working... So it's a trade in
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk (how ironic is that eh)

I was confused by this.
It says a one off fee of £99 - does that mean your contract pricing stays the same? But you get 4G?
If not, the offer is not even remotely tempting.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2

Anyone contacted ee to see the t&cs of this offer?

500mb of data, what is that nonsense? Ofcom really need to step in for us soon and give the mobile contractors a kick up the arse.
Also
you can dump your current contract and switch to EE 4G for £99

Sounds more like you're paying £99 to get a NEW contact on EE 4G, which will probably be a worse contract than you're on for allowance.

This seems to be a really bad deal. If my understanding is correct - its a trade in offer, so you need to hand in your old phone, pay £99 for a new phone then they will switch you to one of these new expensive 4G tarrifs!
If that is right - you would have to be nuts or really really want 4G.

Agree. Looks like EE are chancing there arm and charging early adopter high prices. Wait until the other networks roll out 4G and watch those prices tumble.

Very true.
At the beginning of this new 4G roll out - the early adopters will have to sell their children to be able to afford a 4G data plan.
Best thing to do is to wait patiently for other networks to enter this market (won't be anytime soon though), only when faced by competition - will we begin to see reasonably priced 4G tariffs, until then - the kids will have to go!

Just glad i live in the country. have to setttle for 3g. probably 2020 before i see 4g:laugh:

All you are doing is taking out a new contract on ee. Same as doing an upgrade. Also people take out a £61 plan for an iPhone with 1gb data. No difference there.

Why do you keep sprint??

I stay for the unlimited data which im sure everybody does lol but ice been thinkin bout going to att i really only use about 2.5-3 gb of data a month anyway **** but i like not having to worry bout going over when i take long trips sprint also seems like they try to get over on their customers with defective ass phones im tryna give them a chance and hold out till the network vision plan is completed but im skeptical cuz of the whole wimax fiasco i was first in line for a evo paid the extra 10 a month and didnt see a lick of 4g in my city maybe if we get through this sprint will come out better than ever..idk u never know with them

Not sure if you know but verizon just changed their data plans. $30 for 4GB of data instead of 2GB.
Edit: oh and I keep sprint only because of the Epic 4G touch. In Jan when my verizon line is eligible for an upgrade going to take my HTC incredible away from my gf and get myself Galaxy Nexus and giving her my E4GT
Cheap plans and my perks of having a business account.
The horribly slow data speeds will hopefully be resolved when Network Vision get's pushed out more. I have also never used 4G locally. I just don't know if I'm willing to wait until 2013 to see any improvements.
When the Galaxy Nexus arrives on Verizon it gets even more tempting, with their 4G in my area and their current double data promotion that's going on as well.
Please note that I'm a Sprint customer and I also have stock in Sprint in the NYSE. I really want Sprint to improve I just don't know when that's going to happen.

Cheap service, I can't come close to what I pay with Sprint with any other carrier. It's worth saving $30/month or $360/year for so-so service. My biggest complaint is having to switch to roaming when I am home, which is totally worth $360/year.

Yeah it's really good. It'll be very tempting to switch when the Galaxy Nexus arrives on Verizon.
I wanted a 4.5 inch screen and a GS2 and unlimited data. I wasn't willing to go to T-Mobile because their service is the only one worst than Verizon where I live (Verizon roams in nearly 1/2 of Md). At&t prorate your plan every time you make changes to it. I added a line and they charged me $260 for that month, for 2 smartphones with the cheapest family plan. They charged me 3 tines for family messaging and refused to remove any charges even though they prorated my original line when I started it. There's more but I don't feel like typing it lol.
I like Sprint, my phone works fine and my plan is cheap.

The price definitely and unlimited data, however I truly wish I was on a. Gsm network I love European versions of phones better
Why I stay?..........
One word: Pricing
Not for the phones, the service, the unlimited data, 4g, yada yada yada
Its only barely tolerable tho with 3g speeds where they are and 4g always goin in and out..
Depending where you live, some areas have great service and some don't. Its the cheapest of the national carriers plus they gave me a free airave. I had a horrible experience with At&t (outages, double billing, poor customer service, crap signal) Verizon is will nickel and dime you and make you pay out the ass for a smartphone and not give an upgrade for two years, T-mobile doesn't cover my area, so i have no reason to leave Sprint. Im happy with the high end phones they carry also and keeping current with hardware.
Unlimited data, cheap, contract.

Unlimited data (which I fear will change soon, I've seen company memos about it), and cheap plans. My 3line family plans would cost way more anywhere else.
The last week though, my 3g has been soooo slow, nearly unusable. I get 4g in some places close to home which is nice.
As for sprint trying to get over on customers, I was with AT&T years ago, and Sprint has been WAAAYYYYY better about accommodating me and making things right when they're not, and adding bonuses to my plan.

Price, history, and the fact that overall they've always kept me happy. I've never had a serious enough complaint with them to need to leave, and any time I've gotten dicey they've taken care of me to ensure I stick around. I get good service with them, my bill is lower than it would be with other providers for the same services, and in general everything is mostly good with them. Verizon wanted a 500 deposit per line with me, I didn't understand why, every other phone company didn't ask for one. So $1,500 for my three lines, probably $600 or more for three smartphones, plus tax....somewhere between $2100- 2250 at the register for cellular service (that's more than what I pay a year currently for sprint just to start off)....plus Ill.still get a bill, (Im scared to even think how much that would be equivalent to sprints plan) and much higher than I'd be paying for any other carrier. F U Verizon. Sprint gave me 3 lines, no deposit, Samsung moment $70, BB curve $0 and a LG optimus s $0, $129 family plan+$30 unlimited data, it was a no brainer.

Yeah I never personally understood this mentality. I have no issues signing a phone contract for 2 years. Up in Canada it was 3 years with Telus. So down here in the states 2 years for service that's pretty good and having an awesome phone at a good price just makes sense.
Sure I could go ahead and purchase the phone off contract for 600 dollars but then I'd still end up with AT&T with my unlimited data and whatever it is I have for minutes and texting etc. You pay out one way or another, why not lessen the blow up front.
That said, I do understand that some people don't want a data plan etc. All I can say is last year when we got my inlaws the focus I took their data plan off the bill after a few months. No one screamed bloody murder at me so. Also, why the hell would you want a phone like this and NOT have data and be restricted to only using it on wifi?
To each their own though right!?

I don't like how the Titan and most other LCD screens blur when u scroll. I like the back of the Focus S as well.
deal is live now for non-business customers anyways. 1-cent all WP7 phones
Titan > S but nice to have many choices of nice devices FINALLY.
Just ordered the Titan! It says Free overnight shipping I believe? Perhaps I might get it Monday or Tuesday. The sooner the better since I have < 20 days to return the HTC radar if I like the Titan better
A freaking penny!
Downsides At&t plans suck major balls.
I got a great deal with the radar only paying $60 per month for unlimited everything (up to 2gb highspeed data) and tmobile doesn't even bat an eye with Internet Sharing
Att 450 mins $39.99 2gb data $25 unlimted messesaging/mobile2mobile $20 brining the total to $85 Internet Sharing costs extra!
Do I really want the Titan this bad?

Any benefit to buying Sprint gn @ full price?

When I bought my iphones and t-mbole nexus s, I reasoned buying at full price would save me money in the long-run. Then t-moble blocked the nexus s from using my old 5.99 Tzones plan and I had to call numerous times to get the 20 dollar android data plan.
Now I want to buy the Galaxy Nexus Sprint phone for my girlfriend. She has a very old plan with cheap unlimited internet. I don't know the name of her plan (yet).
Will buying a full price phone have any benefit? unlike SIM card phones, I think you have to call to activate Sprint (cmda?) phones. Therefore, I am assuming they will make you pay for a 4g plan... even though it doesn't exist in Los Angels, yet... right?
Do you have to suck it up and take their discounted phone and 2 year contract? I hate contracts...
Thanks,
i would call and ask sprint.
Hard to say. Buying cdma phones full price is bad deal. They don't have as good resale value compared to unlocked GSM versions.
bow chicka wow wow.
Buying a CDMA device full price gives you no benefit whatsoever. Sprint doesn't give you any deal on service, and the resale value of locked CDMA devices is really low.
The only reason to buy full price is if there is no way to upgrade or re-sign a contract.
If she has an old "sero" plan, you can still upgrade and keep the plan. You WILL pay for a 4G data plan, but that's been true for the last 2 years of WiMax too. You should go talk to the Sprint people in the threads about the device. Plenty of people in there are upgrading on the old plan.
How do I find sprint people who upgraded?

There won't be anything you can do to your phone to keep them from throttling you.
The data will be passing through their network before it gets to your phone so they will just slow down the data passing through their network before you even see it.
No way around it unless you change carriers or use wifi.

It's true about the new Evo. I'm so sad. I would have had my phone today and activated it on a new line of service. I think that since the patent in question is not being infringed upon it won't take long to clear, but it still really sucks. It's been sucky having only Wi-Fi for my phone, and I was really excited to come home today and activate it. I really hope it doesn't take very long to go through.

i think we need to see an official statement about it from verizon before the real outrage from more users is present...besides those of us who read every internet post out there, 99.9% of verizon users probably arent aware of their intentions
but if there is enough of an outcry, who knows?
verizon has canned stuff before (sadly not the $30 upgrade fee) but the supposed charge for paying your bill online was shelved when people flipped out
but my interpretation of what the cfo said is this (obviously its my opinion)
your next upgrade post family data plans will force you off unlimited (or whatever tiered plan you are on if on a family plan) and into either tiered (for single line accounts) or family data plan (for those with multiple joined lines)
if you upgrade between now and when the plans start, you should be ok for the next 2 years....
however there is speculation if on a family plan (shared minutes currently, individual lines on the same account shouldnt be affected) if *anyone* on the family plan upgrades, everyone gets kicked onto a shared plan automatically (we ll see)
i *think* after family data starts, if you buy devices off contract (though if you buy directly from verizon at full price they may try to screw you) you should be able to keep unlimited data.....
but when you are off contract, verizon can (with prior notification) change the terms of your month by month status at anytime and since you are off contract and they dont have to forgive your etf (cuz there is none) its take it or leave it
id like to blame the iphone 5....funny timing that this happens when a lte iphone is looming and vzw is surely worried about the data usage that could bring
anyway, just how i see it
I'm just wondering how this is gonna affect me. I have a family plan with 700 shared minutes but on my line I have 5000 texts and unlimited data.

Not going to happen, sorry.
Every carrier is moving to this model and Sprint wont be too far behind. This will impact 1% of Verizon customers the other 99% wont even notice the change. Why? Because right now they don't even know they have unlimited data or know how much the unlimited data is for. IF they were to call and complain it would take two seconds for a Verizon rep to point out they don't even reach 1Gb of data.

1. Are you on a family plan? If not then there is no reason to wait.
2. If you move to a 4G phone now you will be on unlimited data until you upgrade your next phone
3. No. Any phone change will trigger the data change
4. You can add a line with any Verizon approved phone. You don't HAVE to buy one on contract when adding a line.
Right now I'm paying $60/month for two phones with unlimited data. If the family tier offers 3-5GB month at $50-$60 I wont sweat it. Since we both started working from home our data use has dropped dramatically. Even when we both commuted we both barely got over 3GB combined. With individual plans being 2/30 and 50/5 I can only hope the family one comes in somewhere in line.
What do the data plans start at now anyways? 4gb?

tiered atm? (we have no clue about coming family plans at all)
2gb - $30
5gb - $50
10gb - $80
w/ $10 per gb over
randomly certain phones will have "double your data" deals to get 4gb for $30 w/ 2 year deal
Bummer. 2gigs would definitely nix any use of Pandora or Play music

If you adjust quality settings you can make it stick. I was using Spotify an hour a day with high quality streaming and was just going over 2GB.
As for current plans, if you're unlimited you have a 5GB cap.
Oh I agree. It's just the idea of watching every friggen byte coming through. They already have me for 130/month for Fios 80/wireless. Here a-holes take my whole paycheck and fight it out with my ex.

[Q] Buy from T-Mobile, HTC, or somewhere else?

I've been with AT&T for the last 2 years (Galaxy S3). Thinking of switching to T-Mobile.
Where should I buy the One M8? Directly from T-Mobile? Or are there factors like price, bloatware, firmware updates, bootloader, carrier logo on the phone, etc. that would make buying an unlocked or developer edition from HTC a better choice? How do all these things work on T-Mobile, and on the One M8 specifically?

Before switching to T-Mobile, make sure they have good coverage in your area. I am currently testing them (again lol). Coverage does seem to be improving. Do you want to finance the phone? If so, then you have to get it through T-Mobile. All carrier versions of the M8 will be bootloader-locked; however, you can have HTC unlock it. I am sure the phone will get updates just has fast as any other carrier. Remember, the unlocked/developer editions will not have Wifi calling, which is very nice.
I too am considering picking up the TMO branded M8 as my developer edition was taking forever to ship from HTC.com.
Remember you don't really get discounts on phones for T-Mobile anymore because there is no contract. You can use the jump thing they offer which is pretty good for those who like to switch phones every 6 months. But personally, I would find a used one or refurbished one rather than paying full price. But beware of scammers with that route.
However with the price you'll pay with T-Mobile and doing the "jump" you would probably still save money lol.

The AT&T and international M8 are not compatible with T-Mobile 3G network.
So, if you want to use it with T-mobile, you need to buy it from them.

true and false at the same time. It depends if the area you live in has been reframed. If they have LTE then the HSPA+ network is PCS1900 and not AWS. Best to check the area and find out if it's been reframed or not.
T-Mobile jump is a scam, you have to pay off 50% of the cost and you don't get to keep it, then you get new phone.

just like buying a phone trying to sell it to get back 50%+ of the money around the same time most people would turn in during jump? You'll be stuck on the same boat. Either T-mobile does the leg work for you or you do it yourself. Either way seems the same to me. Since I am accident prone Jump is actually worth the money for me, and also when I am ready to change devices I don't have to find ways and deal with people to sell a phone to buy a phone.
I got mine through TMO even though I don't use them(I'm on straight talk). They are charging pretty close to the going rate for the phone(even with the interest added in they're not taking you to the cleaners too bad) so it's not a bad deal if you don't wanna go out of pocket all the money at once. The one I got was able to be s-off and thus simunlocked for free so that worked out beautifully for me.
My friend also got one(he is the one who is on TMO) and it's been great for him as well. We've both had good reception with it.

Give it 4 months and you'll be lucky to get $300. Also you probably be trying to sell the phone for weeks to months at $460. Been there done that.

Obviously i was not talking about the original jump. The original jump was great and that's is why T-Mobile got rid of it because it was too good of a deal for consumers.
Also, the original jump is not available now is it? No, it is not

Yes, It is for me, and anyone else who was a t mobile customer before Feb. 22nd, 2014
You are automatically grandfathered in if you were on TMobile before that date
