Hi,
I'm willing to buy Galaxy Nexus and I'm wondering if it can play 1080p mkv video smooth.

Well last year i excitedly got my samsung galaxy S because it can play flash videos natively but it sometimes stutters and struggles when streaming online flash video. I remember i even got it working on some sites that stream movies, if it uses flash.
I never tried the Galaxy S II or Nexus S, so i'm just wondering if this phone, which the specs are like twice as good, would be able to play those streams completely smooth?
It has a dedicated decoder chip. Should be fine.
I voided my warranty and your nexus.
i just bought a Note2 but I use the phone to make 3-5h phonecall a day with clients since im self-employed and I feel that the phone is not comfortable for such long period of time for me.
Im about to return it and exchange for a Galaxy S3, but it saddens me to lose the quad core.
I bought the samsung microUSB-HDMI adapter and was wondering will the S3 be able to handle 1080p mkv with soft-encode on MX player with codecs (hard encode doesnt seems to work even on my note 2, the audio is delayed).
I just want to make sure before I do the exchange.
I have never used 1080p video but 720p video work fine in sw hw and hw+ mode for me in MX player. While traveling last week I watched 10 hours of Dexter through mlp and it was flawless.
Is it possible to play 4K videos on Xperia S? Yes it is, with MXVideo player but it is very slow maybe because of hardware but I think that a player created for 4K videos will play them, if you know any software please tell me. By the way, what I've seen on my phone 4K video looks stunningly amazing !!!!
why would you play 4k video on 720p screen you won't even notice the difference between 720 and 4k on xperia s
No! You really can see the huge difference between 720 / 1080 / and 4K ! Video looks super sharp and super amazing. If only not that damn lag...

How did you fitted a 4K video on 26 Gb of SD? You can only fit 20 min of 4K video in 64 Gb...

Sadly its just a placebo... (google that too, to find out how strong can be a placebo :good:..)
4K video sample was 4 minute length and was about 900mb. And for those who this its placebo try it yourself you will see much more details

So it wasn't trully 4K... Or was REALLY compressed. A 4K camera has a record rate of around 45 Mb/s. That times 60 seconds, or 1 Min, is already 2700 Mb.
And even if MX Player couldn't play it smoothly, that has an awesome hardware render tool, then no app will be able to do that.
One of the main reasons I plan on purchasing this is because of the the so called video playback. I plan on mainly watching movies and anime on this tablet and I was wondering how is the playback for 10 bit/10p mkv files?
I'm also curious to see whether it's safe to watch high resolution mkv files without overheating the tablet since I'll be watching it a lot during the night.
Thanks in advanced.
Yes to everything. All new tablets are capable of playing this format with no issue. You just need an app like BS Player. I play and stream 8gb mkv files all the time

I also heard that MXPlayer is the best right now? Also does your tablet overheat after watching/streaming all day?
I use Mxplayer all the time. No problems at all. Full screen and yes mxplayer is awesome.

I've heard that that Nexus 7 is prone to heatup when watching HD quality videos? So is it prone to heat if I watch for hours on end? I'll be playing mainly 720p 8 bit stuff.

I recommend MX Player, I watch 1080p movies all the time with it, however when it comes to big(over 5gb) 1080p mkv files I recommend BS Player.

Good to know. So when you watch for 5+ hours the tablet doesn't overheat?
+1 to mx player. I haven't found a video file it cannot play. Install the DTS plugin here off of XDA to play files with that sound format. I use it in conjunction with ES file explorer to stream video's over my network and even through wireless 1080p mkv's play flawlessly.
dice player is worth a try.

I haven't noticed any issue with getting warm playing videos but it sure gets warm when recording 1080p or doing multiple 360° photos.
I'm running a kernel with better thermal throttling. And its not gotten warm like it used to just takes a bit longer if it needs to just to keep cool.

No, the only time I've noticed a little warm is when playing high graphics games and when it's charging while using it, the common stuff that usually get it warm. no problems with over heat here on mine.
i have never watched movies for 5+ hours straight on my tablet. i watch a two hour movie or one hour show, and never had heat problems.
Thanks for all your responses everyone. I'm probably going to buy this today.

Yes. They work really well. I've ripped all my Blu-Rays to h265 and watch them when I travel. I used dvdfab to do the conversion.
