What is the disadvantages of CM9 ??
Camera quality isn't as good and slower to take photos, interface is a bit laggier than a stripped down stock gingerbread, battery drain can be worse depending on customisations and tweaks, some apps run slower/graphics can be jerkier/Mobo player is buggy (an ICS issue)
Advantages are AOSP interface, higher app compatibility, ability to install application data to the SD card and many more

I think the battery is quite good. Because mine can hold even almost 1 day. You should wait for 3 - 4 cycle charge before you can complaint about the battery issue If you just flashed rom. About the other I can say much because I don't use gb rom very much.
But for me cm9 is good fast smooth and stable for me

I think the strength of cm9 is in its ability to hold large amount of Apps without lagging like stock does.
The one and only thing I can think of is the fact that there are too many different choices you do not know which suits you.

If you want to use GB roms then use RebelROM something like that... simple like GB Stock but more reliable and transparent and it has no complaint.. i use just a month and then join ICS

I used a whole bunch of GB ROMs for the W before eventually settling with CM9 again after thinking it was giving me battery drains since CM9 provided a cleaner and smoother interface also better gaming experience than any of the GB ROMs provided.
GB is alright but compared to ICS and CM9 its not as good if you do alot of gaming since I found even the best GB ROM has more lag than CM9 gaming wise.

I think the most stable rom for gaming is still the gb because ics for our device is just released and still take time for other games to adapt to our ics based.

I don't know if anyone is picking up on the trends here. But you will notice people basically stating they either use or in some way shape or form revert back to gb to get things done or perform functions that should be trivial. With that in mind it becomes clearer and clearer that samsungs implementation (not Google) of ics is seriously flawed. I can only pray that jb doesn't turn out like ics.

Surprised to see the support for gb. I do live the battery life, but the ui of ics is just too nice.
With that said, is calk's Rom still considered the best gb Rom? I've seen unnamed and phantom mentioned as well.

I'm on calks 3.0 and I love this Rom and the battery life.. don't get me wrong, I love ics/jb bells and whistles and the customization but the stability of a gb rom can't be beat until all the bugs are ironed out... but who knows, maybe when ics /jb is really official and there's an officialcustom kernel built, I don't see gb being beat...

Only reason still on GB is not sure how to pop up to ICS or Jelly a little confused and looking for a good how to upgrade breakdown tutorial.
I would've stayed on blazer or any gingerbread if YouTube and Songza were usable, no 4G in my area and those apps would just keep loading on 3g. I honestly don't see any difference in battery life with gingerbread and the newer ICS roms, only slight speed difference.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
i went to JB/ICS but the download speeds are so much slower for me on them so i stick to GB to tether to my laptop.
Me. just all around more stable and faster to me.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
I'm running blazer 4.1 because the GB data speeds/ping are better than ICS/JB. I can't stand the touchwiz super-scroll and AOSP ICS/JB still has the 4G bug. Once AOSP fixes the 4G bug I will update. I have never had battery problems on any Rom.
I can't figure it out so maybe someone will help me (using MIUI as example).
What exactly is the benefit of using JB-based MIUI over GB-based MIUI apart from the fact of having the newest thing on the block? I found only TWO minor things:
- good voice recognition of Android 4+ (I don't even know if MIUI has it built in)
- in MIUI JB you can have pattern screenlock as a single lock. There is no way of avoiding double screenlock on GB MIUI.
So is it really worth loosing HALF of the Quadrant score - I get ~950 points in JB MIUI and 1900 in GB MIUI (which I suppose means JB roms are two times slower than GB roms) and some extra space on data partition?
Did you seriously just write that.

Everyone knows benchmarks are worthless in the grand scheme of things. Except for testing new high end phones (even then there not accurate enough.)
GB MIUI is probably a little faster but no were near 2 TIMES faster than JB MIUI.
Though MIUI in general was never that fast anyway
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
In the grand scheme of things we could just use Nokias 3100 and our lives would not be much different.
There is a big difference in benchmark result between different roms on the same phone, so obviously it IS measuring something.
GB MIUI is also twice as fast as GB CM7 on my phone.

I can give you more than that on a froyo rom. It still is a fake score.

Aside form arguing whether benchmarks work:
A- Aesthetics, ICS is unbelievably beautiful
B- All the launcher features, Keyboard mouse (if you do some scripting)
C- As mentioned voice recognition is great
D- Upgraded GApps
E- List goes on...its the little things that count
And yes, Spacedog rom for the bravo kicks a**

Have you never tried a ICS or JB ROM? Just make a backup and flash one. There are really good smooth/stable ICS ROMs, and JB with butter is really tasty, though still some bugs. Not slow at all though. Give it a go.

I think people need to redefine the words 'stable' and 'smooth' as well as 'fast' coz I didn't get those when using ICS or JB (with a tons of bugs that, I think, will not be solved anytime soon).

I'm obviously not a 'dev' but is there any reason that the software that makes up GB compared to ICS allows the battery to last waaaaay longer, I am in the middle of the unbricking/rooting process and just playing around on the GB for a day and I noticed this? While on ICS it would be at 70% after just 2-3hrs or sometimes less % so what in your opinions allows for this and is there anything from GB software that can be used in unison with ICS or JB ROMs to allow for better battery life, maybe this makes no sense and it obviously doesn't for me either just wanted to ask this?
Thanks
I used to run the CM9 and CM10 builds, as well as the carrier ICS. I can tell you that my phone is more stable, and the battery seems to last longer under GB. Everything I need works in GB.. So until there is a version of android that doesn't crash my phone I will stick with GB.

Its odd hey and I only wish that some devs could work out why, maybe than some how work it into the ROMs so we don't have issues such as ICS?
The reason is simple in ics it fully utelize the processor thus using more power.

All I can tell you is this. When I first got my phone in May it came with GB, I would only get four hours before needing a recharge. Very upset about this I did research and found I was not alone, this is actually how I found XDA So I purchased an extended life battery and finally could go all day on a charge. Then I got brave and went through the unbrick process (because I was dumb and upgraded to v10j). As soon as I started running cm my battery life doubled, then after official came out I found it equally impressive with battery life especially after disabling fast dormancy. However I would be willing to try GB out again for a few days to see how my battery life is and in comparison.

I would try one of the stocks, v20f or liquid nitro. They will give you better battery life than GB, cm9, cm10. After all this FUD above I put GB on my phone for a couple of days and couldn't even make it through the day. Screen on power is MUCH higher on GB and that is why. This is also what I experienced when I first for my phone in May.

So my friend and I were comparing our phones he has an iPhone, and my phone would do everything faster his phone just did everything smoother, mostly we checked how games ran, his phone in game options ex: scrolling through options and upgrades was way more smooth and responsive while mine had hiccups, gameplay was the same though, but I'm curious why the iPhone is smoother scrolling even outside of its ui into games while my Hercules beats it in specs?

Its not only hardware that determines how smooth it scrolls but also the software
In my opinion the reason I think it scrolls better has to do with apples memory management because it manages ram more smoothly so that's probably why
Also did you install custom kernel on your device?
Because if you did there would be no way you would lose

"The iPhone changed things by introducing a dedicated thread with high priority for handling UI rendering, redirecting all power (CPU and GPU) to handling UI element rendering in realtime based on touch input. The result? Smooth-as-butter UI elements, transitions and animations as soon as you touch the screen -- even on older hardware when paired with the latest iOS 5 software. The drawback: everything else, from app downloads to content rendering will pause so the UI can keep that high frame rate, high quality redraw pace."

The t989 is faster than the iPhone 4s. Geekbench 2 proves that. But in terms of smoothness the iPhone will ALWAYS win. It's just the way Android is designed. iOS sets resources aside for UI transitions and whatnot and that's why you NEVER see an iPhone stutter and spurt like Android does at times. Give Android another year or so and this issue will be a thing of the past. Unfortunately the only way to resolve this with Android is better hardware... but it's coming!

well basically JB is the most stable ROM in my opinion that has the most support otherwise like ICS and GB don't have as much but i think that as soon as Ubuntu gets released the JB roms will be flowing like water but basically that also means that more roms will be smoother and remember that JB hasn't been officially released for our device so what there is currently is made by our awesome devs!
