There are posts all over the Internet about this battery drain problem with Samsung Galaxy Nexus update to Jelly Bean.
Something happens during the Jelly Bean update that screws up the sd card.
Then the Media Scanner goes crazy when it cannot verify the files on the sd card after the Jelly Bean update screwed it up.
Now my phone which was perfect before the JB update is now useless.
It is ridiculously hot and I have less than one hour of battery time now.
It's so bad that the phone melted part of my protective case.
Battery log shows Media Scanner taking 72% of battery.
----------
Samsung or Verizon needs to push out another update to fix whatever problem they caused.
This is affecting a huge number of people and there are posts all over the Internet.

Dude, i understand you just want to enjoy your device, but it's not like it's going to get fixed by Sammy or Google or VZW by posting here, this is XDA-DEVELOPERS, not XDA-FIREMEN, if you want to try and solve it yourself instead of waiting (which will probably wreck your device in time, if it's that serious), just read this thread and enjoy JB. A useless device would be a FULLY BRICKED device. If you don't want to do the work yourself, just take it to Verizon, ask them to fix it.
Why not just copy all your bs to a computer then delete everything on the phone and do a factory reset? Then copy all your bs back over?
This way the scanner looks for something to scan, sees nothing and stops. Afaik it only does this once on a fresh boot. Also disable picasa sync. That **** is bug and will do this too.

The problem is I should not have to jump through all these hoops.
I have dozens of apps loaded and configured that I need for my work.
Who has time to save off 43 apps and all the configurations? Plus over 20,000 emails? Plus all my texts and photos?
Either Samsung or Verizon screwed this up with their crappy JB update and now have huge number of people complaining about really poor battery life.
Samsung or Verizon should fix their crappy update and send out a fix for whatever they did to cause this mess.

Actually, some companies require employees to not root/jailbreak their phones.

I saw earlier that people were saying that rooting the epic touch 4g may NOT be the cause of LoS. But I'm here to tell you that I only got the LoS after I rooted. All I did was root and install honeycomb battery + crt animation. The LoS was getting ridiculous, so I went back to the stock kernel and I'm LoS free. Just letting you guys know, this IS a root issue and it should be stated clearly for those who are considering rooting. I think it will just cuase a lot of grief for users if they are not properly warned, so please do so guys.
its not confirmed unless you have thousands of independent tests
Just a warning, you're about to get flamed for posting this in the development section. With that said, I too never received an LoS until the day after rooting the phone (had it for two weeks with no issues). Installing the LoS kernel has helped a ton, though.
i can also confirm that rooting caused my phone to experience an endless onslaught of LoS occurances. I had the phone for a month without any LoS issues, only ****ty battery life (losing 6-8%/hr idling over night). The day I rooted the phone, i experienced LoS three times. Installing the lostkernel helped and I only got one in three days, but I ended up switching to the EVO 3D since I coudl not stand the battery life.
I have never once had LoS, on either stock put root. I am one of the lucky ones. However in have read there are people out there that have LoS without routing, so I am not sure your confirmation is 100%.

Unless you can explain why my COMPLETELY STOCK phone got struck with the LOS bug, then no, rooting is not the cause. It may TRIGGER the LOS bug, but it is NOT THE CAUSE.
Please try to do a data profile clear/update, that's what fixed my phone.
sorry before hand but whats los? loss of service??????
I experienced LoS before and after root. Now I know what it means when I read "your milage may vary ".
Now to another issue, just because your phone is showing reception or 1 bar doesn't mean you haven't LoS... lol, only way to find out is by placing a call...
Samsung is very good with destroying its reputation... Before it was their lazy late updates, now defective devices... I was 100% set to get Galaxy Nexus, then I heard Samsung... Hmmm makes me think three times and looking to alternatives, definitely will wait atleast few weeks before getting Nexus.
I would compare samsung to a sexy sl*t lol

Hi Everyone,
I was wondering whether anybody else has experienced this side effect of the ITL41F update? My battery life has been really really good, much better than that of my HD7. I was really chuffed with it. Along comes the ITL41F update, and since then the battery will drain itself on standby. Nothing has changed on my phone. I have not installed any new apps or made any settings changes (such as sync frequency, etc). So the only difference is the ITL41F update.
To give you an idea, If I charge the phone in the late afternoon, and then pretty much leave it alone, by the morning it will have gone down to 15% battery or less. This morning I plugged it in again, and now it's down to 50%. And I only sent a single txt message and didn't do anything else on the phone. This is properly rubbish.
Anybody know where I can report this bug to Google/Samsung?

I would say your mobile signal is using up a lot battery. when it is yellow that means its weak, and grey means no signal. Since this is the main 2 colours on your chart I would say this would be the main reason for your battery drain

Are you seriously asking that question?
You improve your mobile signal but getting your network provider to install another mast, or switch to a different network with better coverage in your area.
If you could improve signal with APN settings or flashing a different radio it would be done like that from the factory!
WEll, I have a LG Optimus One and use franco kernel with it, and am soon buying a GN because he develops for it too, SO:
FLASH FRANCO KERNEL!
DOnate him a beer before and ten after the WOW-experience you'll get when you realise 4 days later that your battery is only 10% becuase of the popup.
And now read my words again.
It's the best option!
Your phone was awake for more than 50% of the time. If you really didn't use it, there's most likely a rogue app which is preventing phone from going into deep sleep.
Use an app like System panel to locate the culprit.
nevermind - delete me
Thanks for the fast replies guys, it's much appreciated! =)
What I find puzzling is that absolutely NOTHING has changed on the phone, apart from the update. So if there was a rogue app that was consuming the battery, it should have exhibited that behaviour before the update, right?
I will check with system monitor though, to see if I can spot something. The strange thing I noticed is that the OS is consuming *more* battery than most other functions. Even on standby.... weird!
After finally getting the patch I can't say the battery has been worse. In fact it seems to be better. Although I think that is down to the fact I've been through a few charge cycles now.
click on android OS, and check out the awake and CPU times. The cpu time should be a fractions of the time awake.
example, my phone has been on this charge for 22 hours (still 36% battery left.. didn't use it too much this charge). the leading battery drain is screen at 51% (2.5 hours awake time), and the 2nd leading item is Android OS which has the following:
CPU Total - 18m 53s
Keep Awake - 4h 46m 9s
I'm just curious on why your CPU total was in relation to the awake time by Android OS.
Mines great.

its funny how many similar theads appear everytime a phone gets updated. And most of them all go down to user error.
Just saying. my Gnex is fine after 11F update, OP should probably do a wipe
Guys, I'm not ruling out 'user error', but at this moment in time I cannot see what I could have possibly done to cause it. I have purchased System Panel on the Market and I'm running it in monitoring mode to see if it can shed some light on the issue. Strangely, 'Cut the Rope' and 'Exchange' are running constantly and as a service. Not necessarily consuming CPU while the phone is asleep though. Just though it would be strange for a game to be running as a service? Must be a reason for it....
Ask the developper of "Cut the Rope" why does it need to run that way. Exchange is run as a service because you probably need it.
Anyways, you can try a clean flash with stock ITL41F. But i'd say apps are to blame

There are some issues that they lost their phone. Some of phones cannot be tracked. Our phone (GALAXY Y) has a GPS feature which can be track. Follow the steps below:
1. Go to Setting. Open Location and Security.

2. Check Use GPS Satellites (May consume a little battery )
3. Scroll down, You will see Remote Controls. It will ask you to register. Complete the registration.
4. After the registration. Go to www.samsungdive.com and log-in.
5. After you log-in. You can now track you're mobile!
(Note: You can control your phone like wiping data, ringing mobile and more! Tracking may take a while depending on you're internet connection )
You forgot to mention that you will have to create a Samsung account for that
this doesn't works efficiently on my Galaxy Y connected in same WIFI network as my PC good internet speed yet this website doesn't detects or do anything on my phone

I think for apps like these if you can pay, the best is where's my droid. Otherwise stick with Avast. Avast has some nifty root only features. Only way to get rid of it if rooted is to flash a new rom.

Not true man, if the phone is linked to your Samsung account (ie: registered) it will work. I have flashed my phone many times and wiped data many times and it still works, I just tested it now.
forgive me if I am misunderstanding you.
Oh? I meant if it was stolen and someone flashed a new rom over it. If you do that your Samsung account will have to be added again. And if it really is stolen, what thief would add your samsung account again just for the phone to be tracked? XD

Guys, i will tell you my story about losing this phone. This is true story guys
One day, we had a P.E subject in our school, then, the pocket of our pants is too short, then i put my cell phone on it, on the time that i will go home, i ride on a jeepney, i have been chit-chatting to my friend , then, when i arrived, we go to our house , then i'm opening my door, and i'm so excited to charge my phone, i put my hand on my pocket, i was shocked! the phone was gone missing!, i immediately pray and ride to a bike (about 30km to find the jeepney i rode but i forgot the jeepney and the plate number) i had failed to search for it. my parents was so disappointed to me, after that day. I remembered that i created an account on samsungdive.com using my phone. Then, i located it! I was so happy that my phone was found! Then after a day, my mom took it for me, she said that she found it in zone 3 without some1 holding it, i think the one who took it was freaked out because i rung the mobile. Yes, i had my cellphone now, but the sim card was gone, tsk . I just requested to the attorney to make me affidavit of loss for 50 pesos and 99pesos for the recovery of the sim card number
let's just pray that the one who took it don't know how to flash or wipe data. hahaha

just activate sim change alert in ur phone. and when anyone change the sim then u know his no. after u complain to police. but if he flash the rom or reset to factory default then it was impossible to find your phone

Yeah, i can use that sim change alert. but i don't want.

I am so glad that i didn't lose my phone, i was so scared that day, and that day, my mom and dad was so very angry to me, i had it as a gift for being first honor in the class, last year, i was second year high school, my parents told me that they will never buy me a phone again, they said that i was so careless, i was so angry to whom took it, i'm glad that our phone has a gps feature. That's why, i tracked the phone
So long story short at the beginning of this month i called Verizon because i was having major issues with my Nexus and was able to get them to cough up a brand new one instead of refurbished device and was super excited, got the new phone and began having issues right out of the box. At first i thought it had to do with unlocking and rooting but found out soon enough it was something wrong with the device, i lost count on how many times ive gone back to stock and how many factory resets ive done.
Camera app would crash when i was focusing, zooming, turning flash on off & same with video record. I could only record for about 10 seconds (if that) before getting either a black screen or a beautiful force close screen and to top it off sometimes i would have to battery pull in order to even get the camera back up and running for another 10 seconds.
YouTube i couldnt watch more then 40 to 60 seconds of any video before it would completely just freeze except for the audio. I would force close this app and the audio would just keep going and this was no matter if i was on a call or not i could here the audio in the back round.
Other apps on the phone where behaving the same and today i finally was fed up so i made a trip down to the store and got the whole store involved with attempting to figure out what the hell was going on with it, manager said this is the first device since release that he or his employees have seen with this type of issue. What was even more shocking to him was that it was a brand new device and then he hit me with he couldnt give me another new one but a refurbished one that he could order so i decided to leave the store and come home to spend the last 45min on the phone with a VZW tech and finally i got him and his supervisor to budge, another new device should be here tomorrow and hopefully i wont have any issues with but only time will tell. My point of this post is to not only rant of course and get some feedback from members to see if anyone else out there is having or has had any issues like this??
I also thought about waiting for the supposedly 4.0.4 update to drop tomorrow but honestly at this point with how many factory resets ive done and have been running stock no unlock or root for two days i think its honestly something wrong with this damn phone i got rather then something wrong with permissions or anything like that. Anyhow so much for a short story let me know what you guys think.
Thanks.
Well...that just sounds like terrible, horrible luck...
Should have gotten an iPhone perhaps
the one u have should still be under warranty...send it back

You are lucky that you got a new one. I am receiving my fourth refurbished "like new" Galaxy Nexus from Verizon this week. Every single one I get mutes the audio on the other caller's end, and one of these phones also would drop data when it went to sleep.
I get the feeling that people are turning in their Nexus phones because of the dropping audio problem, and then Verizon is sending them right back out because they can't find the problem in their testing. How in the world could I get 4 straight broken Galaxy Nexuses?
I really don't want to have to switch to a Razr...
Should have gotten the refurbed one, atleast that way a human was working on it, to see if it functions right.

I checked again and tried the PC tools which give me an error message saying my firmware is not compatible with the PC update tool. (I am NOT rooted.) I checked again OTA and now it says there is no update which means Verizon must have pulled it! I see no issues operationally with the phone - Note my s/w version as well. Anybody else run into this?

With AT&T I'm more afraid of their updates and automated downloads/flashes than malware... lol, still on Pie.
Best to keep updates blocked, let it roll out and see how many get rolled over by it.
Give it a couple weeks and then decide.
With Q I'm still not satisfied enough to load it and as such the backlog of security updates remain pending.
Whatever.

I don't think it was pulled. I got the update a couple of days ago with no failures.
I have the Verizon Note 10+ 5G. Stock not rooted.

Then why does it say my upgrade failed but I have the most up to date version!?!?? What build do you have, does it match the build number in the photo shown of my phone?

Girlfriends Verizon version got an update. She makes it known to tell me because of bad experiences with Verizon updates . I don't know what happened with hers though. She uses her pixel 4 as her personal but I'll ask.

Thank you for your reply but mine is specific to the Note 10+ 5G, so what you suggest is like comparing Apples to Oranges. I have noticed also as you can see by the photos originally supplied, although it tells me the update failed, the software version has changed and that may be why it also says there is no update available. I may actually be running the later version or not, there is no way to really tell, either way it was handled very sloppily by Verizon and is concerning.
However, I have also heard, Google will be discontinuing the Pixel line of phones so as they say, every company is screwed up, they are just screwed up different ways...!

I was talking about her note, she has 2 phones.
The August update is a battery hog and it's also caused Bluetooth issues. If I didn't have to wipe the phone, I'd go back to the July update. Maybe enough people complained and they quietly pulled it.

Once I get a stable load that's running well, I leave it alone. Been running both Windows and Android like this for many years with very little trouble. As you are keenly aware of tracking down an update issue can be very time consuming*. Many times a hard reset due to malware be easier. Malware on Android has caused me only one hard reset in over 6 years.
I herd dinosaurs, lol, I take a conservative approach to updates because many times the cure is worse than the disease. A bare bones updated Windows or Android machine runs faster... I hate waiting.
Carriers are partnered with Samsung and jam their own crapware and app graphics "updates" in their too on OS upgrades.
These can make it usable... I remember the horror of Lollipop on my S4+, destroyed it... thanks AT&T. Not.
That's one reason I'm still running on Pie... with no issues.
*may be a settings issue. My Pie load runs best with all power management turned off especially 3rd party including Samsung. A new update means a Google search won't yield many solutions for it.
The first app I block is AT&T updates... no joke.

I don't know. Look up that error code 410.
Like I said, I don't think it was pulled.
