Latest Swype beta not working on latest stock firmware (4.1.2) - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys. I just got the newest Swype beta update but now every time I try to select Swype keyboard, the keyboard simply changes to the default Android one. Tried wiping data for Swype and restarting phone, neither of which helped. I have Titanium restored back to the older version for now. Has anyone had a similar problem?

I'm also having the same problem. Tried completely uninstalling it, and the installer, and downloading it again..same thing. I don't get it. Very frustrating.
I tried to do the same thing as you, but the backup was on my tablet, and my titanium backup on my phone doesn't want to recognize any of the apps for some reason.

Yeah I also tried the same thing and it didn't help either. Are you on 4.1.2 as well?

Yes.

The same here. Dont'blame 4.1.2 update it seems there is a conflict between the last swype 1.3.1 update and lightflow led app. If i try TO disable lightflow swype works like a charm!

Hm. I need lightflow more than I need swype. I'm trying SlideIT right now...so far so good, just hope it's not a battery hog. How did you figure that out anyway?

Hi guys, I've just updated to the latest beta version of Swype. I'm running a custom ROM based on 4.1.2, details in my signature. No issues for me. Using the Mercury theme.

This is a known problem.
The solution so far is turn off any applications like lightflow in settings>accessibility.

Any suggestions on how to get the older version back on to my phone? The titanium backup that I had from my tablet won't show on my phone even though I've copied the entire folder

it is incompatible with LIGHTFLOw
either uninstall lightflow, or go to settings - apps- and try to delete data/cache
another option would be to force stop your stock keyboard- then swype should work
forums at swype is where i read this - and did it myself - new swype is awesome (besides this bug of course)

ah sorry
maybe try this??
I just tried the above, go to Settings > Apps > All, find "Android Keyboard" and click the "Disable" button and then the "Force Stop" button, REBOOT your phone, and then select Swype as your keyboard.
Volia! I have Light Flow and Swype 1.3.1 BOTH working!
Does NOT require Root! Thanks "userspace"!

Hey guys , the newest version is not incompatible with lightflow , theres something going on with the stock android keyboard . I was having the same problem , on 4.1.1 with the newest beta of swype . I went into settings - apps - all , and disabled the android keyboard . After that reboot your phone , and swype should work . I just did it 15 minutes ago and it worked great , and lightflow is still enabled on my phone . I found the info in swypes forums .
Edit : guess I should have read ALL the posts , looks like I'm confirming Bigal77's statement rather than giving new information .

Incompatible with MissedIt! too.

Thanks everyone! I guess the best fix for me right now would be to disable the stock keyboard since I don't even use it.

Disabling the stock keyboard has resulted in some wonky behavior on my phone. Screen turning on by itself, music started playing by itself, dismissed notifications, rebooted once.....none of this happened ever before until I tried the fix of disabling the stock keyboard. Unfortunately I think I'm going to just stick with thumb keyboard until Swype fixes the issue on their own. It's just INSANELY hard to type w/o swype, it really sucks, and SlideIT is no replacement at all, terrible predictions.

Yeah SlideIt is pretty bad. I haven't had any problems after disabling stock keyboard though.

To fix it you need either go to the Settings / Accessibility - and then turn off all apps that is listed under Services (like LightFlow for example).
Or disable the stock Android Keyboard. Just go to the Apps / All / Android Keyboard - and disable it, also force stop it. Then it is important to restart your phone.
Now you will have Swype selected and working as you main keyboard.
I don't like any of the new themes, an improvement over the old ugly swype but I think I will stick with my old themed swype for now.

- Settings > Apps > All

I only ask because I hastily downloaded the apk only to keep reading and see that people on aosp roms have to download a flashable zip...I haven't got to installing yet, so I can't say if that's the issue, but if history is any indication...

So mine also has two "stock" keyboards checked, but it lets me set one as the default and it sticks, so it doesn't sound like I'm having your exact problem.
Here's a screeny of my input methods. Both are greyed and unclickable.

K, that's just what mine looks like, I guess I don't understand what you mean by it constantly asking you to select input methods. Do you just mean the notification at the top while you are typing? If so, most of the roms have a way to disable the IME switcher notification, or in CM10 it is called "Selector notification." I've always disabled it since I use swiftkey anyway. Hope that helps.
oh okay, yeah i was referring to the notification icon popping up everytime i open my keyboard, but that's fine. ive used other keyboards and not had that issue so it threw me off is all.

GN Swype beta issue on 4.2.1

Anyone have issues with swype beta installer after i log in on the choose version screen i get continuous loading and never recognizes a version.. anyone else? or have fix for the issue??
I have the same problem.
Swype Beta unusable for me in 4.2.1 it is always force closing... I am now using Keymonk keyboard and it is a great contender vs. swype! Almost might be better! Two handed swiping so much quicker and I am sure it will only get better! Get the free version here
no problems with Skype here, rooted & running Xylon 4.2.1 009. Suggestions would be uninstal, redownload installer & Skype again. If rooted i would also suggest wiping cache & dalvik, even fixing permissions. You could also paste the Skype installer & apk direclty into your system/apps folder and see if that changes anything (have to be rooted).

wow thanks for this app, i been using the latest stock 4.2.1 keyboard for swyping but this new one seems alot smoother and simpler adding new words with one touch.
What I wind up doing is restoring the app with tibu, then clearing data. Then i register, and enter the activation code, and allow it to restore my user defined words. It's become a part of my setup process

[Q] 4.1.2 Keyboard versus Swiftkey question.

Now that we have received our new JB 4.1.2 update from T-Mobile (yeah! :victory, I have a question.
Samsung licensed Swiftkey technology for their keyboard. It does look much better and respond better than before. I also own Swiftkey. That said, I'm waffling between sticking with the stock keyboard and saving some memory versus running Swiftkey and having some additional options for customization.
What do you do?
Do whatever one you prefer, don't know why you want the answer given to you, just preference. Don't stop using apps just because memory more this phone has its memory
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I stopped using SwiftKey because:
1) it was not remembering the words I told it to remember.
2) swipe prediction was terrible.
Using Swype now.
I prefer the note 2 keyboard myself because it has the numbers on top and I don't have to keep it that stupid little button on the side to make my numbers pop up.

Or just use the free note 2 keyboard from a flashable zip.

Only SwiftKey can insert space bar by swiping over the space bar without letting go of your finger. I find that really hard to beat. I'll stick to SwiftKey until I find something that could do better.
Been looking
Hi guys first post ever here in XDA. Been lurking for a while.
I have the Frosty JB 4.1.1 v11.2.1. I removed alot of apps through Titanium and when I do a factory reset, I don't have any keyboards. I am looking for the stock or note2 or the new 4.1.2 keyboard to install. I have swype but want to get stock so I can put it in the proper folder for factory resets so I wont be without a keyboard upon reboot. I have searched and all I keep finding is themed KB and cant get them to work. I hate the dev stopped producing the frosty rom, I love it on my phone. Cant find the v11.2.1 or I would just start fresh there.
Thanks in advance.

You can either "convert to System app" using TiBu Pro or move the .apk to the /system/app folder and reboot. Root is required for either.
And just fyi, there shouldn't be a link to the note2 kb in the themes and apps sticky.

Because your SwiftKey is from the black market if you have one from the play store and latest upgrade it will stick after reboot like my.

Thank you all. I found tp2215 library and picked up the note2 and installed via zip in cwm.
Then bought the TIBU, per DJ_SpaRky recommendation. I then made a sys app out of the note2.

Thank you all very much.

Its all based on your preferences. I have used both and didn't think anything could be better than swiftkey till I saw the new Samsung keyboard on the s4 Note2 roms. I go back and forth now looking for a new king. I like the option of having the permanent numbers row on the ported note2 but I am also trying the new Kii keyboard on the play store. Install them all and swap back and ofrth in settings untill you decide which works best for you. I currently have 4 or 5 installed.

Caps autocorrect issue
Is it just me, or does the new keyboard want to autocorrect everything in CAPS? Before I would misstype "that" as "thay" and it'd autocorrect to "that." Now, it autocorrects to either "THAY" or "THAT," in all caps. Very obnoxious. Any ideas?

You're probably running aosp ROM that uses aosp keyboard (Google keyboard). You need to delete the apk from /system/apk/ directory then push the downloaded apk and rename it, change its permissions. Reboot.
