Swype - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Swype is not working on GN with 4.1.2 after the update to 1.3.
Is it just me or others are experiencing the same?

It's a known problem.
The solution so far is turn off any apps like lightflow in settings > accessibility.

Working for me just fine.

To fix it you need either go to the Settings / Accessibility - and then turn off all apps that is listed under Services (like LightFlow for example).
Or disable the stock Android Keyboard. Just go to the Apps / All / Android Keyboard - and disable it, also force stop it. Then it is important to restart your phone.
Now you will have Swype selected and working as you main keyboard.

I don't like any of the new themes, an improvement over the old ugly swype but I think I will stick with my old themed swype for now.

anyone has the old .apk version of Swype???

temporary fix....
- Settings > Apps > All
- Disable Android Keyboard
- Reboot phone
- Select Swype
In this manner I am currently able to run both Lightflow and Swype.

Did Google remove the press to hold and change keyboard input option? I keep having to go change it in settings and that's a bit of an annoyance. I like to change keyboards every so often.

When you bring up the keyboard, there is an icon on the top notification bar. Select from there.
Finally, some Swype action!

Okay, so that's what that was. Lol. I was becoming frustrated that the little icon was up there so I assumed it was Swype spamming me. Thanks a lot! I guess it doesn't show up until you have more than one keyboard available.

has anyone been able to download any language files?
it seems the download capability is broken. I couldn't download any language files or dragon feature.
p.s.
Downloading works but it just needs some time.
Downloading the additional languages seems a little buggy. Sometimes the option completely disappears from the menus( even whilst being connected to wifi the whole time). It's not a conclusive method of getting the menu option back but I think running the swype setup/installer app when swype is already installed seemed to bring it back for me. Then several times when opening the download languages menu it sat with the loading twirly for ages and ages.
Also when finally getting the list of languages and downloading my desired language, the downloading was fairly fast but installing took ages.
What was also funny was swype had defaulted to Spanish when I first downloaded it and I was wondering why it's predictions had become so seemingly odd....

You can't. It's the way you change keyboard in ICS (except stock keyboard which is long press space).
The norification will stay there unless Swype implements the ICS way to change keyboard.
I'm using Swype whole mounth. build that I found works perfectly in my g nexus.
I can give apk if somebody wants. Also it supports lots of languages.

and I don't have any keyboard icon at top bar. It works how it must (like in 2.3).
But there one BUT: it uses nuance dictation (or dragon) that's no t so cool as default goggle's

Notification Toggle & TTS

Hello!
This thing happened to me when I had the Huawei U8800 too.
After I install Notification Toggle as a service (on Accessibility Menu, so I can use some features), every time I open a browser (stock one, Chrome, Dolphin, etc.), TTS starts reading everything. I tried with SVOX TTS and stock one.
It happened to me with ICS, now with JB it's happening too.
It's very weird, i've searched all the forum and all the web but no luck.
Can someone help me?
Thanks in advance and best regards
Go into accessibility settings and disable talkback..actually, just disable that entire section..it's for sight/hearing impared

I have that disabled. However, to some functions of notification toggle work, I have to activate notification toggle on acessibility. But all other accessibility functions are disabled...

Yes, but as I use TTS system to navigate with Google Maps, I have to have it on... In fact I use SVOX Classic, but it's the same. So it's some problem with Notification Toggle...

actually, that's not correct. the accessibility service is only needed on Android 4.0 (not on 4.1 or any other version) to keep the notification above all other notifications

that's when the app is installed in /system/app (see here: http://vps201.fra05-inx03.webhod.de/thomas/j4velin_development/dl-root.php?app=nt) and has nothing to do with the accessibility service
also i posted a workaround here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28842919&postcount=776 which seems to work for some devices. as this is a bug in the android system, i can not fix anything in my app

A temporary fix is to clear the cache of the Google TTS Engine, which is perhaps less inconvenient than disabling it if you use TTS features sometimes (Navigation comes to mind?).
Disabling it does seem to be 100% successful for me, but I don't want to do that if I can avoid doing so (I am using a Note II, not S3).

[Q] No personal dictionary after 4.0.4 update?

I just got the OTA update yesterday to Android 4.0.4. I know it was supposed to improve the ease of typing but it has actually made things a lot worse (for me, anyway). It seems like they changed the way the prediction works. Like "Im" always used to be automatically replaced with "I'm". Now it's not. Also, I can't find the personal dictionary anymore. Where did they hide it?

Latest Swype beta not working on latest stock firmware (4.1.2)

Hey guys. I just got the newest Swype beta update but now every time I try to select Swype keyboard, the keyboard simply changes to the default Android one. Tried wiping data for Swype and restarting phone, neither of which helped. I have Titanium restored back to the older version for now. Has anyone had a similar problem?

it is incompatible with LIGHTFLOw
either uninstall lightflow, or go to settings - apps- and try to delete data/cache
another option would be to force stop your stock keyboard- then swype should work

I just tried the above, go to Settings > Apps > All, find "Android Keyboard" and click the "Disable" button and then the "Force Stop" button, REBOOT your phone, and then select Swype as your keyboard.
Volia! I have Light Flow and Swype 1.3.1 BOTH working!
Does NOT require Root! Thanks "userspace"!
Hey guys , the newest version is not incompatible with lightflow , theres something going on with the stock android keyboard . I was having the same problem , on 4.1.1 with the newest beta of swype . I went into settings - apps - all , and disabled the android keyboard . After that reboot your phone , and swype should work . I just did it 15 minutes ago and it worked great , and lightflow is still enabled on my phone . I found the info in swypes forums .
Edit : guess I should have read ALL the posts , looks like I'm confirming Bigal77's statement rather than giving new information .

Disabling the stock keyboard has resulted in some wonky behavior on my phone. Screen turning on by itself, music started playing by itself, dismissed notifications, rebooted once.....none of this happened ever before until I tried the fix of disabling the stock keyboard. Unfortunately I think I'm going to just stick with thumb keyboard until Swype fixes the issue on their own. It's just INSANELY hard to type w/o swype, it really sucks, and SlideIT is no replacement at all, terrible predictions.
Yeah SlideIt is pretty bad. I haven't had any problems after disabling stock keyboard though.

I had to disable Lux - that is an app designed to manage display brightness - and then I could install my apks. Odd but true. I hope this helps other people searching for this.
The same issue can also be experienced if you're using "Screen Filter" app.
