Before I help my wife's poor Epic 4g,
Does the camera app on CM7 nightlies have panoramic photo abilities that the Samsung Gingerbread has?
If no, is it possible to get the Samsung Camera App.... and get it to run on this?
Thanks in advance,
gfdos

If panoramic is in the CM7 camera app, I can't for the life of me find where to turn it on, so I'm going to say it's not there.
As far as getting the Samsung camera apk to work, I believe it is inherently part of the TouchWiz structure and can't be ported over to AOSP. Probably have to find a third party camera app that can do it, but I don't have any recommendations. It's probably the only thing I'm not happy about regarding CM7; definitely not a deal breaker, but I miss it. I recently took a trip to Peru and mostly took shots with my little Sony ultracompact, but any time I wanted an instant panoramic, I'd whip out my Epic.
I thought there are panoramic camera apps in the Market.

There are pana cam apps in the market. Cm7s cam is an aosp so it wont have all the goodies

Pano is what I use. It is a paid app but I like it a lot.

Perhaps they'll incorporate Panorama in CM9, as ICS Stock's Camera has Panoramic.

The one thing keeping me on a sense rom at present is the lack of a camera app that is anywhere near the HTC stock One.
Really want to make the switch to jellybean and was looking for a few suggestions. Ucam seemed good until I realised you can't stop it beeping and it doesn't use the stock gallery. I have purchased camera360 in the past as well as camera fx but none of the seem quite as easy or fast. By the way I'm fully aware sense cam can't work on aosp.

Currently running CM 10 preview with JB and also missing the camera app.
I tried a couple(mainly to get the hold for multi shot functionality) but they were a little poor.
Pudding Camera - worked ok but not as good.
Fast Burst Camera - very fast burst mode but really poor quality.
Camera Magic - not that good
I found camera mx to be the best. Make sure you update it though to get video recording.

Hello. I was wondering if the quality of the camera is any different(not as good) on aosp then stock samsung software? When i had my galaxy s2 there was a noticeable diffrrence in the focusing area. Thanks

i am running aokp 4.1.2 with a flashed port of the 4.2 camera. i installed the 4.2 camera simply because the camera app itself on the 4.1.2 rom was very bland and almost outdated. havent had any issues with the new camera and enjoy how well it works. zoom, focus, shutter speed, etc.
i say all this to let you know that there are other options once you've gone aosp-based. cheers
Imo the Samsung camera is better, I have stuck with touch wiz roms for that reason and simply installed the aosp camera and gallery as well, for sphere (the aosp gallery is better for viewing sphere) you will have two camera and gallery, no issues, give it a try:thumbup:

Both take pictures at the same resolution. If you look on a computer, the pictures look the same, no difference between TW and ASOP. The only difference that I can see is that photos are presented clearer on the phone with TW more than on ASOP. However, after the picture is taken, you wouldn't be able to tell which rom it came from.
Yeah. Ive noticed differences in the detail area. And how well the camera focuses with touchwiz roms vs aosp. Its very weird.

which rom are you using? i tried many different roms, CM, aokp, and one TW rom but not happy with camera. S3 camera is pretty decent but i'm not quite happy with ANY rom yet, in terms of camera performance. very slow to zoom, blurry display, unnecessary flash focus, slow to take shots... just went back to stock rom for now.. until i i find a good rom with good cam support.
on the stock rom, shots are real quick. good display.
From everything i have ever seen and read... Samsung's camera is closed source. Anything AOSP/AOKP is never going to be AS good, unless Samsung makes their drivers open source. Touchwiz ROMs utilize the Samsung closed source camera libs.
Either way, I don't really see much of a difference, and I really have no idea as to what the big differences are. There don't really appear to be any huge differences. FWIW I'm on Task650's AOKP ROM.

One thing you should be aware of is that video recording on aosp rom will have very low volume

I noticed coming from Stock TW GS3 that the AOKP 4.22 camera was .... grainy. I did some research and it turns out that the Samsung software takes better advantage of the camera hardware that AOSP cannot by design replicated.
I LOVED AOKP 4.22, but I have a baby and good pics are important, so I flash HyperDrive RS14 because it offers BOTH cameras.
AOSP with photosphere AND the stock TW camera. The "stock" TW camera is largely the same but has been modified. Nevertheless, the TW camera provides MUCH better quality.
Here are two pics, each take at the same time and place with the FLASH on . Both set to 8 mp.
The darker one is the HyperDrive RS14 ROM TW cam.
The pics actually were taken farther out, this is just a screenshot of zoomed in to show clarity.

The differences in those photos is far more than camera apps... the one that is claimed AOSP is out of focus and blown out, it looks as if exposure was set as high as it would go... the Sammy photo looks like it is properly exposed and focused... there is more going on in this comparison than just TW vs. AOSP...
so i always wondered does our camera quality BETTER on STOCK TOUCHWIZ roms than on CM roms?
on me personally
when on TOUCHWIZ i can FOCUS this that are really up close.
but when i was on a CM roms i was not able to FOCUS this that were really up close.
(when i say up close i mean like 3 mm guessing lmao. )
As i see it, TW roms will almost always provide a better camera with more features. They built their firmware specifically for this camera, while cm is more generic and built to cover many devices.

If I switch to stock android, will the picture and video quality be the same as it would be in touchwiz? I want to make the switch to stock android, but a fully functioning camera is important to me. I need the best video and picture quality thats possible on this hardware.
I actually like the aosp camera app more as far as photo quality/accuracy. The colors look way more accurate with the aosp camera. As far as functionality everything works great. I'm on slim ROM 2.2

I like the touchwiz camera better, I always experienced better quality and overall picture once you set it to the right settings.
