I know its been asked before and I also know its been shot down before...but still trying to find out if anyone had any kind of success with making a tmo wifi calling app for the our beloved nexus. I know there are other options but I want to be able to call anyone and receive incoming calls with my tmo number.
Thanks
Unfortunately, T-mobile's wifi calling has hooks in the kernel and the ril, as well as now being baked into the rom itself. It's VERY unlikely that this will ever happen. Sorry.
I was afraid someone was going to say something like that.

Please don't spam me if I say something stupid, Im just a noob here. Also don't spam me if I post in the wrong thread. (only in the epic forum will I ever have to leave something like that before a normal quesiton/post)
Okay, so I saw this on the xda news thingy. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1142448 . Someone on the vibrant forums was able to get wifi calling working. Could this be ported to or work on our epics?
Looks promising, but I see some users are getting charged for land line minute usage and others not. Also see some grandfathered plans are being changed upon usage of Wifi Calling. This goes for T-mobile customers of course.
I currently make my Wifi calls with gv + sipdroid without have to deal with any of these hassles.
BTW - Running 2.2 Froyo, have not played to much with ginderbread integrated VOIP features yet.
I feel like ive heard of tmobile being one of the only carriers with wifi calling... But im not sure, maybe we cant do it and they can but it was disabled... Just my 2ยข

Ever since the update, my phone will sometimes not show a number from callers whos names and or numbers used to pop up. It just says "Unknown Caller/Number" even though before the update it would show their numbers. Anyone else experience this?
**EDIT**
Forgot to mention I'm fully stock.
My girlfriends phone also does this after the update and she is completely stock. I am rooted and on AOKP and haven't seen this yet.
Happening to me too, very annoying
I talked with tech support they made me do a full wipe, I did, and its still occurring. I just called in for a replacement, as I don't know what else it could be.
Probably by design by TMo so they can get you to subscribe to their caller ID app.

This has been happening to me also. Havent really looked into it.
mine did that and fixed it self on its own. weird thing is this happening to alot of people
Use whitepages caller id. It should remind the phone about caller id, and you can uninstall it later if you so choose

+1 on this. It happens to me at random. Sometimes my girlfriends number will show fine and others it will show as unknown. Not just cellphones but she has called me from her work phone and it does has happened the same thing. super annoying!
I've been seeing this alot lately also...I work in tech support and the times I have seen this something has been off on the back end we can see. I saw it was a known problem 2 weeks back but they've since removed it. Instead of moving a couple of things and click a button technically a "trouble ticket" needs to be filed so TMobile's eng team can track down the issue.
I've found no other workaround then calling in..sorry

I'm having the same problem. When I'm connected to wifi with wifi calling on, my caller ID works. But if I'm connected to the cell network with wifi turned off (or out of wifi range) then my caller ID almost never works. It's worked a few times when connected to the cell network but usually not. Have you guys called T-Mobile to let them know this is a widespread issue?
Hey guys to fix this issue, turn on Wi-Fi calling, place a call to the phone. Then change the settings on the Wi-Fi calling to use cellular network and place another call. After that it will stick until you flash another rom
Has nothing to do with wifi for me. Happens both on wifi and on cell.... Should we be sending in for a replacement? Also im on stock odin of ics. Not updated through kies. Very annoying issue i do not understand

WIFI calling enabled on SG2 won't receive calls
I've been flashing Roms for about three years now. I travel over seas quiet a bit and wifi calling is have been very helpful. But lately I've been having problems when I'm on any ICS roms. I don't know if it's just me, because looks like nobody else is having same issue, but I can't receive phone calls when wifi calling is enabled. It goes strait to voice messaging. I can make phone calls, but can't receive them. I have no problems with WIFI calling when running Gingerbread roms. Please help!
Might wanna take it up to tmobile if you confident you are following the ROM installing procedure.
How about go back to GB and see if you still have the issue

Thanks for the reply!
That's the thing, WIFI-calling is working just fine on ANY of GB ROMs (I'm running Darkside Digital Warfare v2.7 now). It's when I'm on ICS ROMs and WIFI-Calling is active incoming calls not going through, they are going to voice mail without one ring from the caller (it's like phone is off). But I can make phone calls no problem. And trust me I've tried all the new ICS ROMs that came out lately. And I do follow installing instructions very carefully.
Do you have the beats audio mod installed? I figured out with a few other people that it does cause an incoming call issue. And i know that wi fi calling is hit or miss on ICS
oh man. i just realized im having the same problem. i just didnt think anyone was calling me.
I called T-Mobile about this today, because none of my phones (S2, Blaze, Double play) would receive calls over WiFi. Ever since I called it's been working. Maybe it was a system update on the T-Mobile end?

But I can receive calls (wifi active) on all the GB ROMs I've tried. It's the ICS ROMs I'm having problem with... But thanks for the advice, I'll try calling T-mobile tomorrow.
We all know about the crappy call waiting paradox with this phone. Any ROM out there fix this terrible news? I searched no luck. Thanks.

I have no issues with call waiting.

Care to enlighten us on this "call waiting paradox"? I have never had an issue with call waiting.

It's important for you to specify carrier and which version of the phone you have. I presume from your other posts you have a Verizon GNex. The first respondent to your thread is in Manchester so I presume they have the same as I do - the GSM/HSPA version. I have never had issues with call waiting and I am thinking this is probably an issue with only the CDMA/Verizon variant.
there's an issue with call waiting? why didn't anyone tell me
maybe its an issue with your provider.
Well...I'm a Toro and have no issues.
Never did.
But do you mean the bug where you suddenly go mute to the other party?
I heard from most people that that was fixed for them on 4.1.1 ROMs.
Ok. So if I am on a call and I answer the phone to pick up call 2 everything is sort of fine but I cannot tell who I am on the phone with. It just say on a call. There is no where I can switch to the other call, call #1. No swap button, or anything. Then when I hang up with call #2 it seems to have hung up on call #1. But if u wait about 10 seconds the phone rings and call #1 is there... I cannot just simply hang up and call #1 is there. I am not the only person with the issue, as I have seen it frequently on the Web being reported.
I am on a Verizon LTE version of the phone. My fiance has the same phone, same issue.

Interesting. I'll have to see if I have this issue.

Definitely doesn't happen on the HSPA version. Tried it last night.
I seem to remember a thread where someone was complaining about difficulty controlling multiple calls on the CDMA iPhone, and their screens looked significantly different from the GSM/HSPA iPhone. Are there certain limitations to CDMA networks?
I know the issue has been around since ICS. I have always experienced it, root and unrooted... Here are some other threads of people complaining, as I have researched this quite a bit. I would be willing to try out another for Verizion CDMA if I knew it would fix the issue. I am currently running "Vicious-Toro V1-JellyBean 4.1.1 "
Anyway here is another thread I have found with people complaining about this:

Interested in GSM calling info, NOT VoIP calling!!!
I have searched the form, but have not found a definitive answer. I am looking to purchase Nexus 7 LTE and I'm curious if GSM calling is available with a custom ROM like CyanogenMod 11 or Slimkat. I'm not new to flashing as I run Slimkat on my Nexus 4, but I don't want to get rid of my 2013 Nexus 7 and purchase the LTE variant if I cannot make calls on it. I KNOW its a tablet, and no level of rooting\unlocking on the stock ROM will allow this, just unsure if its a hardware or software issue. I saw one post where member 'thejmannnc' said he was able to make calls with cm11, but every other post(which are all months old) said it was not possible. I would really like to hear from someone that has actually succeded in installing and using the dialer for GSM calls and SMS/MMS texting. Thanks in advance for proven answers.

The LTE Nexus 7 can not be used as a phone..
Youtube is your friend here..
You can only use it as a VOIP
Even if you put a fully functional SIM card from a working phone..
You still be unable to use it as a phone..
Obviously your not doing your research.. and looking for someone to do it for you..
if you can't find it, then its just not there..
Look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFkIR1elWug
You can only use it as a VOIP.. its not meant for cell calling. Thats why its a Tablet..
Okay...like I said before, I have done the research. I've already read all the posts associated with this subject(by searching on the internet, just like you) and I've seen the video on YouTube. For you to just call me lazy because you dont understand the question is, I feel, a little insulting. I want to know if it is a software issue, or a hardware issue. If you don't know, just say you don't know...none will think any less of you. If you DO know, then offer me some proof that you know, not just some unfounded "nope".
Do you know?
Sorry, but the answer is still no. If the answer were yes, you would see it posted everywhere in this forum.
Actually I am using my n7 as a partial cell. I have actual texting on it and possibly calling {no calling on that sim card, just texting) you may be able to with a proper Sim. Go to the n7 2013 lte specific subforum and read the xposed framework mod for ussd call and text (on my phone so I can't find an exact link)

In CyanogenMod, I have added the phone capability.
VOIP works, but GSM calling did not.
Someone got limited success by flashing a different radio meant for the Nexus 4 - a hybrid radio modem img file.
However, one way voice communications was not considered useful.
Adding in the phone functionality into the Android operating system is not enough.
It appears the Nexus 7 LTE is neutered in the proprietary ASUS radio modem.
Regards,
Howard
P.S. The Nexus 4 guy who makes hybrid radio IMG files was not very receptive to trying to help.
There could be future hope with the expansion of VoLTE, which is being developed by Verzion and T-Mobile (via its purchase of MetroPCS). T-Mobile was testing this in Texas but I dont know where.
If it comes to deployment at end of year, then I think there might be a chance through modification for us.
As of right now it seems just through VoIP.

Why are you so stuck on GSM anyways? VOIP may be kind of crappy on 3G, but on 4g it's fine. Even if you could, I doubt there'd be any carrier out there that would let you do it for free. VOIP on the other hand technically isn't that much different than sending a large email, which is why VOIP -> VOIP is generally free, similar to email services.
I've had a Nexus tablet as my phone for almost 2 years now, and haven't paid a dime because of Google Voice's free VOIP-> PSTN ability. My setup:
Incoming: Call to Google Voice # forwards to Callcentric free DID. Callcentric forwards to pbxes.com, which is linked to my VOIP app (CsipSimple)
Outgoing: CsipSimple -> pbxes.com Gvoice trunk -> PSTN.
Texting using Google Voice app (uses the same number)
Hangouts on my girlfriend's iPad has the calling feature built right in, so I'm sure it's only a matter of time before it comes to Android.
