[Q] Disable Pending Encryption - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

hey all,
I attempted to add my work's exchange account on my phone and as part of the process, it requested i encrypt my phone. I backed out of the setup and removed the sync account, but its still pending the encryption. Is there any way other than a factory reset to disable this pending encryption? it will not allow me to change any options or access my sd card until they are encrypted. when i pull up the encryption settings it just states to plug the device in and select encrypt. im running stock 4.0.4 rooted.

mtp application has stopped
internet has stopped
i have tried factory reset, it doent help.
also in the recovery mode i cant mount sd card
now every app that related to the sd card isnt working, like camera and my files
it also crashed immidiately when i hit the storage option in setting, shows setting has stopped
and the notification bar went disappeared too
anyone can help me pls?
This is why you shouldn't delete anything from your device if you do not know what it is....i'm not sure what you removed but those 3 processes that fail to start are the apps that control your media - ringtones, music, notifications, etc, MTP - the transfer protocol which handles mounting your sd card, and obviously your internet browser isn't working. Without knowing exactly what files you deleted the best thing for you to do is reinstall your ROM. Either the stock ROM or whatever ROM you are currently running. You should be ok with just reflashing over top of whats left if you are running a custom ROM without losing any data but the stock ROM flashed by Odin will wipe your device. Since you didn't bother lettinng us know what kind of phone you have i can't point you in the right direction as to what files you should look for. Do yourself a favor....if you are gonna go just deleting whatever gets in your path, make a backup first .

yes, it is a sgh-i747 phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426 ...use this guide to flash the stock rooted ROM. Backup any data that you are able to get to as this is going to wipe your phone. If you have an external sd i would take it out, and i suppose if you really needed to get to the internal sd the file manager in TWRP MIGHT access without the use MTP but i am not sure about this.

[Q] CM10.1 ATT GS3 Features I miss from CM10

I decided to upgrade to the CM10.1M build and really like 4.2. Just noticed some functions that I really liked that are missing since the upgrade form CM10. Anyone know if these will come along or if they have been scratched?
1. Click to take a picture while recording a video.
2. Use as mass storage device under Settings--> Storage-->Options
3. Have the headphone jack reset to half volume on unplug.
Sorry if this is in the wrong area, haven't posted here often.
Thanks.
Hi!
Questions should be posted in the AT&T Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting section of this forum. If I were you, I would use the "Report this message" function to nicely ask a moderator to move your thread to the corresponding section.

This most probably won't happen, because of how the device interacts with storage/partitions. Such an option might eventually get implemented for external SD card only, as the extSD is on its own partition. You may be interested in EasyUMS, which enables mounting the extSD card as an MSC device.
Technically, this should have went in the cm bug report thread. No need to open a new one. And as for the usb options, it existed previously. It simply has not been implemented on cm10.1 yet.

Thanks, I will install EasyUMS today, its perfect for what I need. And you are correct, it only ever showed the ext card.
Appreciate it.

Thanks, didn't consider any of the missing options bugs. As with he USB, I just assumed they haven't been implemented yet. Not one to complain about an awesome OS that I've been given to for free!
thanks

[Q] Trouble restoring device after clearing Private Mode

I long ago forgot my password for Private Mode on my Galaxy Tab S running a stock 4.4.2. In order to regain use of Private Mode, I decided to remove my microSD card, do a Kies backup of the device to my laptop and then do a "factory data reset" on the Tab S. Then I reinserted the microSD and and ran an "automatic restore." I did get Private Mode back, but the problem is none of my downloaded apps, photos, music, onboard maps, etc. are showing up anywhere. Even after re-downloading ES File Explorer I can't find any trace of them on the microSD. Can anybody tell me where I went wrong? I don't want to have to reconstitute 30 gigs of data manually.
Hi

Recovery Mode via Pixel

My brother died unexpectedly two weeks ago and I am trying to access data on his Google Pixel 2 XL. At this time, I have access to the google account that he used with the phone but I changed the password so "Find My Device" via Google cannot locate his device. I've verified that the phone was backed up at some point on the day he died, but am unsure of the time and am unsure of exactly what was backed up. I've done lots of research online and I've come to the conclusion that the only way to access the phone now is to enter recovery mode via the phone and wipe the phone and restore from the back up. I've found conflicting information about what the downside is to this approach. First, I know that I can only restore what was backed up. I'm okay with that. But I saw somewhere that the passcode for the phone is still necessary if you want to go this route. Is this true? I do not have the passcode and do not want to get stuck in the middle of trying to restore the phone. Second, will this approach erase all logins and passwords for all the apps that he currently had on the phone? What problems could this approach create as I try to further piece together his digital accounts/ information? Would it be possible to find out what his passcode was? This would help with all the other devices he has.
Finally, is there any way to look at the backup stored on the google drive without wiping and recovering the data to the actual phone? I do not want to do anything illegal; I'm just trying to piece together his last days. I'm the legal next of kin.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Someone else made a very similar post the other day....
The best thing to do do is this: https://support.google.com/accounts/troubleshooter/6357590
This is the only legal way to try and access someones account after death, and even then it my be limited:
In certain circumstances we may provide content from a deceased user's account. In all of these cases, our primary responsibility is to keep people's information secure, safe, and private. We cannot provide passwords or other login details. Any decision to satisfy a request about a deceased user will be made only after a careful review.
If Google themselves cannot provide password and logins, or data, then sorry, but no one here is able or going to help you break google security.
Knowing the passcode of one device wont help you with others, they can be different
Not knowing what youre hoping to recover, no one can tell you whether it accessible via google services
Depending on the phone there may be a lock that survives recovery wiping and is linked to the account, because its designed for preventing exactly what youre trying to do, and beat security.
Security is there for a reason, and not trivial.
So i refer you again to the google link above....
And a good reminder to not forget to enable inactive account manager, to avoid all this yourself: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/3036546?hl=en

When setting up a device after a factory reset Android will ask for the email address and password of the last account used. Based upon your post, you have that information so you will be able to continue. If I recall correctly it won't ask for the pin as that is a local security feature and not backed up. His contacts and text messages should be restored after the factory reset. Usernames and passwords for non-Google apps may be restored, if I recall correctly, but keys for 2FA apps will not be restored. If your brother used 2FA you won't be able to access the accounts using 2FA unless he had backup codes stored somewhere on his PC.
Unfortunately, there is no way to look at the backup, as Google doesn't make the backup visible to the user in Google Drive.
Thank you.

Thank you! I have the information I need. I was just concerned that I would need a passcode and then I would get stuck. Otherwise, I located the backup on the google drive and can see that it was actually backed up on the day he died, so there should be very little data loss. Thanks so much.

Question Broken encryption after deleting lockscreen from TWRP

Hello, I have a little f3 running miui 14 based on Android 13 I forgot my lock pattern I tried to solve it by deleting the lockscreen file from twrp it already removed the screen lock but when I enter the device it leaves me locked, that is, when I try to open an application I get locked indicates a sign that says wait until the device is completely rebooted before opening applications failure caused by this action that I did from twrp . when accessing the security section Where it is encrypted and credentials it appears to me as encrypted and when I touch it it does nothing .I know that the solution is to make a full flash but the photos that I have inside the phone are extremely important and I don't have backup copies of them almost 30 gigabytes of family photos so I ask for any help or explanation that can help me I have advanced knowledge in this field but had never experimented with the security of Andorid 13 from Miui. logically I tried to connect it to the PC in mtp mode but it does not show me any device driver problem it is not only that the Data partition is encrypted from twrp it asks me for a password

You have access on /data through TWRP. Problem solved.
@Skyfall191299 please don't ask off-topic. you have deleted locksettings.db which contains the necessary link to synthetic password. Either restore the backup of locksettings.db and remember your pattern, or factory reset device. there is no way to decrypt userdata without pattern, not even in TWRP*

* only for some recent insecure MIUI ROMs with FBE or older ROMs with no FBE encryption at all.

He deleted /data/system/locksettings.db! With an encrypted device it's impossible to find and delete that single file on /data.
but how he deleted without knowing the pattern?

I mean the personal data of the mobile, not the /data path, when I enter /storage (where the user's folders are stored) nothing appears

Everything you stored or installed since last factory reset is stored on /data. Everything. Your /storage/emulated/0 path isn't mounted in TWRP but you have /sdcard instead. But both of those paths are only tmpfs that lead to /data/media. That's exactly that path that TWRP does not backup. It's your internal storage.

[Deprecated] Universal DM-Verity, ForceEncrypt, Disk Quota Disabler [11/2/2020]
Hi all! For the past couple of months, I've been looking into making a more universal solution to disable dm-verity and forceencrypt. Needing to take different zips, modify them for different devices, and then cross your fingers when you switch...

I've moved your above quoted post and other related posts out of that thread and create a new one for you in order to be able to discuss issue with broken encryption after deleting lockscreen from TWRP.
