I know that some users experience problems with WiFi starting with Jellybean leaks (3.09/3.14) Issues mostly manifests in rendering the internal network unusable when the HTC ONE X with JB is connected to the WiFi.
In an effort to nail it down I like to ask users who experience issues to post here.
In order to keep it organized I suggest you using the following format:
1. Describe as best as you the issues you are having.
EX: The other devices can't access the Internet / LAN when H0X is connected
2. What router / isp you have
EX: DLINK 855 / RDS
3. What firmware version you have on your router
EX: 1.0.01
4. What WiFi Channel are you using.
EX : 12
5. How many devices and what devices are connected to the AP
EX: 2 Devices. Another Phone: SGS III and a laptop with a Intel Centrino 6230 Wifi card
6. What ROM do you have on your phone?
EX: InsertCoin 10.6.5
7. What baseband?(HTC Base)
EX: 3.14
8. What Hboot version?
EX: 1.28
Please do not spam the thread with posts like "mine is working fine on XX rom / router". I'm only interested in those who have the issue
Hi there, Baad! I have a problem with my wifi. I have an oldie WRT54G router from Linksys. And I'm on orDroidX 4.0.1 with 1.28 hboot and 3.14 leak. What can we do about that issue?

Hallo Baad!
I am on Insertcoin 10.6.0
I"am also experiencing problems withy WIFi. It only manifests on my Netgear AP witch is connected to my Thompson 780 router.
It seems that I lose connection when I use more than 2 internet using apps. For example: only whatsapp is fine, but also using the XDA App for like 3 minutes makes me lose all connection.
The phone will still think I am connected but no connection is coming through.
Switching WiFi on and off or forgetting the network can help in my case. But just for a little time.
I personally have some experience with networks and this looks like a problem that happenends only when connected to a AP (not the router)
I am the only one on the AP and baseband/kernel all stock

WiFi Frequency: auto

I noticed a new option in JB: Menu>Advanced>WiFi frequency band. Try changing it to see if it helps.
A long shot but worth a try
I also read that turning on best performance may help the issue, contrary to common sense but again, worth trying.

Probably worth people reporting what they have these 2 settings set to which may help isolate/resolve the issues :good:

Things I have tried to fix the problem:
- Set the wifi mode from "Auto" to "54g performance" which does the following:
"54g Performance - Set the mode to 54g Performance for the fastest performance among 54g certified equipment."
This seemed to improve the speeds slightly but still not getting full upload/download speeds.
- Changing the wireless channel: No difference
- Swearing at the router: No difference

Hi All...
My 1st post,, a shame it is about a problem.
Anyway, after examining the 4 WM6 versions currently available I went for the Dutty upgrade.
I followed the Hermes guide to the letter, & EVERYTHING seems to have updated perfectly.
Including my radio firmware being 1.41 now.... WM6 seems to be running like a dream aw well.
However, when i go to connect to my local wifi router, despite it SEEING the ssid, & signal strength & saying it is available etc.... It even starts to initiate.... (my tytn picking up the SSID & channel num etc. ) But it fails to connect (i.e. getting an IP address) & throws up a timeout error.
BTW, my wifi zone has NO security applied to make it easy to connect to - ALL my home PC's etc are all connected & working fine.
Before i upgraded (older radio firmware & WM5) the tytn DID connect.
Strangely enough - Sitting in another room, my Tytn can find another open Wifi router from my neighbour - who also has no security.... when i select this router - the Tytn DOES CONNECT!!! - & I can brouse the net via HIT Wifi - So it does work?????
So what could it be? - something to do with the radio firmware? WM6 maybe? or something subtle with my router settings that didn't pose a problem before, but do now??? - My Router is a D-Link DI-524 - And has been perfect & trouble free for all devices connecting to it for nearly a year.
Anyone have any ideas?
Cheers
Hype
Reset the D-Link, I had A D-Link and had simmilar problems with my notebooks, a simple reset of both devices would solve the problem, I now use a NetGear 802.11g router with no problems ever.
Interestingly, I've just downgraded the Radio Firmware from the 1.41 to 1.40 & It does now want to connect... but still a bit hit & miss.....
As i said above, before any of the upgrades, the Wifi DID work & connect quickly... so this is suggesting that it is the newer Radio Roms that is causing the incompatibility.
Dutty's WM6 is FAB!! - I recommend it highly - In fact more so than the Black 2.5!!!
Hype
Find out what channel and frequency youre neigbours router is and switch youre D-Link to those specs. Basiclly try conecting youre device to it and monitor what channel and frequency it connects to.
I'm really satisfied about defy's performances but there's something i can't figure out with WiFi connection. I'm currently using a netgear wireless-N router which works flawlessy with all the other devices, my defy instead is not able to stay connected for more than 10 seconds, keeping disconnecting and re-connecting to the router, continuosly. No way to use the browser or the market under Wi-Fi.
I'm also on a motorola's forum, there i found other people who experienced the same issue. Some of them say the problem is related to wireless-N routers and yes, it looks like defy works better with wireless-G routers (tested).
Btw, no problem with the 3G.
I was wondering if some of you, here in xda, got trouble with defy's WiFi.
FWIW, I use my defy with my linksys wrt54gl router with no issues whatsoever, so it very well may be the wireless n being the issue.
I'm using an access point (netgear) with wireless N and i'm connected to Wifi all the time. I've had this mobile for a week so i haven't noticed myself getting disconnected on skype...but it works fine with N
I see a wifi issue with my fritz.box as well. wifi is (and stays) connected, but no data is going through. I've found various tips like using static ip or using different channels, but in the end they didn't work for me.
so I rooted the defy and modified the tiwlan.ini where ht_enable was set from 1 to 0, which actually disables N, but gives me a reliable connection instead.
hth
thanks for your replies.
@trosenda
Most of the times it keep disconnecting but sometimes it stays connected but there's no flow of data, that is what happened to you.
I will try your method, disabling N (ht_enable set to 0) probably forces defy to go through G only.
thanks
I have a netgear wifi g and I have some trouble with defy which keep on disconnecting so I can't use the browser or the market...It's not related with wifi n because my router is only g but the problems are there...If you found a solution can you post a step by step explanation?
Solved I figured out defy don't like wifi n routers and protected ones. With a router that broadcasts on g channels with no protection (btw only mac adress control access) the defy works like a charm...hope this help others

Yes the problem is exactly what you said - defy doesn't like too much w-N and secured routers. Not all the people have this issue, however, it has been reported to Motorola through their forum. Let's wait for their answer, hopefully there could be a kind of fix.
I was having the same issue with my Belkin N (secured) in my house. But in two other buildings I have G routers w/o issues. So, I figured, just swap the N for a G, right? No. As soon as I tried either of the G routers in the house, same problem as with the N. So I put the Belkin back in the house and spent some time adjusting its three external antennae. Bingo! I now have as solid a connection with the N as with my two other G routers. Must have been interference. Phones? Applianaces? Sonos? BTW the only other thing I had with the same trouble was my PS3. Now, it's connected perfectly as well. Interference.
I'm online through my Linksys 610n router, haven't skipped a beat since I got the phone...

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that turning of the n-standard on my router, going to b/g mixed (from b/g/n) worked great, no more disconnections. Before, is disconnected like all 20 seconds or so.
What worked for me:
My router is a netgear dgn1000 (a/b/g/n), i had WiFi issues for long time, i tried with the G mode only, tried all the possible configurations (both on phone and router), but nothing to do, disconnections every 10 seconds still going on.
Finally i got it working by following these three steps:
1) Update the router firmware (my router was updated to 1.1.00.41)
Then from your dgn1000 configuration page - 192.168.0.1 -
2) Go to "Wireless settings", switch to G mode
3) Go to "LAN Setup" and assign an address reservation to your defy (e.g. 192.168.0.5)
Note: I tried 2) and 3) before the firmware was updated, no success. So, if you have a dgn1000, first of all update the firmware.
Hope this can help
I don't lise connection but the signal is very weak with Wifi. 3g réception is inside on the other hand

I had the DGN1000 with firmware 1.1.00.35 and my Milestone 2 was connecting very well. Now, I have a DGN1000 with the 1.1.00.28 and my Milestone 2 doesn't connect at all: every 10 secs the connection is re-established with a new dhcp request.
Do you think I ONLY have to change my firmware? Or I have to change also the address reservation?
hi,
why my DEFY wifi N only connect at 65mbit ???? why not 150mbit???
who knows something about it ???

Hi guys,
I have an issue on my HOX. On the stock software I could connect to my work internet but not my home internet. This is my setup at home:
Netgear Router DGN2200 (First router that connects to the dsl): (Let's call this A1)
DHCP enable
No firewall
WPA2 security
Zyxel Repeater (This takes the wifi signal from the above router and boosts the signal. All it does.): (Let's call this A2)
Set up as universal Booster.
No DHCP
No Firewall
Security #1 (this is the connection from the Repeater to the main router (above)): WPA2
Security #2 (this is the Repeater's OWN security to gain access to the router) WPA2
Netgear Router DGN2200 (My router in my house. Doesn't connect to dsl via Telkom.) (Let's call this A3)
DHCP Disabled
No Firewall
Tried all kinds of security lol. Believe Android likes WPA(TKIS) more so it is on that at the moment.
Connects to the Repeater via a normal LAN cable.
NB: When I connect to the router that makes the DSL connection I can browse. If I connect to the repeater or the router(that is actually acting as a switch) then it doesn't work. I still have the same IP, gateway, DNS, ect.
So why doesn't the phone go through the router to the repeater then to the internet? Is there perhaps a setting on the netgear router to not allow a connection IF...
When I use my laptop,pc,HTC Sensation or Blackberry I can connect to either A2 or A3 and it works. It's just the HOX that doesn't. A1 is out of range from my place that's why I have this entire setup.
I did root my HOX and with the HTC CM9 rom it does work. Stock rom and Android Revolution it doesn't (I would like to keep Android Revolution on my phone coz I like sense)
Please help
Gerry
Hi, I have exactly the same problem and HTC email helpline have been of no use - basically they just say it must be the range extenders fault. So, really pleased to find someone else has the same problem!!
My router is a Technicolour TG582n supplied by Plusnet and the range extender is an EdiMax EW-7416APn V2. My One X works perfectly with the router but when I move out of range it connects to the Edimax, says "connected" and "signal strength excellent BUT when I enter a url the green connection indicator bar stays at the left of the screen and nothing happens until it says "timed out".
Of note is the fact that my HTC HD2 ( and my wifes iPhone and iPad) work perfectly with the extender so proving that it must be the One X that is at fault.
I also need help please!
there's several posts about connections that does connect but they can't browse. But that is mostly just one router and they have security issues or DHCP issues.
One thing to mention is all of the network devices are running the same security (changed it now) and also on the same channel and the they are all on a "G" speed. Tried the others but nothing so...
Is your HOX rooted? Have you tried this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1706001
That one works but it doesn't have sense

Hey
I've got some severe wifi problems with the BT infinity Home Hub 2.0:
1. Sometimes I cannot connect to the hub and the phone cannot get passed "obtaining ip address"
2. On rare occasions I can connect to the hub but no data is transferred and to make matters worse it takes down the wifi network for others (Other devices remain connected but no data is transferred) To get things working again I have to reset the hub!
If I try connecting to BT Fon or BT Openzone on my network the same problems occur. (Other BT broadband users will understand what I'm talking about there)
What I've tried to fix the issues:
I've tried setting a manual ip address with no luck
I've tried a full reset of the hub
Changed the wifi channel of the hub
Turned on best performance in wifi settings on the One X
I've tried a variety of roms and am currently on Viper
I experience these issues when connecting to other BT Home Hubs and other random hotspots. But at the same time I have no issues issues connecting to other wifi hotspots such as hotel ones and public hotspots.
At the moment at home I've got an old voyager 2100 bridged to the hub and I can connect through that with no problems, but as you can understand I don't really want two routers running at the same time when it shouldn't be necessary.
If anybody has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks :cyclops:

It's pretty much identical but I've had the same issues on other normal home hub 2s
I had the same problem whereby every time my One X connected to my Home Hub, it would cause the network to become unresponsive for all connected devices! I eventually found that changing my hub settings from 802.11 b/g/n to just 802.11 b/g did the trick.
Go here: 192.168.1.254
then: Settings --> Advanced Settings --> Wireless --> Wireless interface type.

Thanks! I'll give this a go when I get home, I wonder what the underlining issue is here that's causing all of these problems
i don't think its the phone, id blame the router, mine does similar sometimes, works after a reboot of the router though
Hi,
I encountered this issue just recently. I have a Galaxy S3 and a HomeHub2 with Infinity. I tried setting a manual IP address, rebooting router and phone, changing wifi channel etc, but none of that worked. I later noticed that the dhcp table on the router was full of expired leases for the same device. I clicked the "refresh" button on the HH2's dhcp page and it refreshed showing a list of different mac address - weird - but this time showng them with an "andriod" prefix. I manually deleted a few of the expired entries - one at a time (pita) and that seemed to fix it, i.e. I was able to reconnect and get an IP address assigned on my S3 again. I've since selected the option to "always use this ip address" on the dhcp table entry details page (just click one of the items in the list to view). I guess there must be a bug/conflict/glitch between andriod and the hh2's dhcp service which perhaps prevents expired ip address assignments from being dropped and reused. I have a few other devices that are wireless and use dhcp (ps3, iphones, ipad, ipod touch, wii, samsung smart tv, wifi printer, microwave, fridge... ok i'm kidding about those last two , and none of those have multiple expired sessions.
Hope this helps someone get round the problem.
Jeremy
PS: Great noob vid.
Funny this is here. I had this exact issue its frikking irritating. I went through the hassle of unlocking the hub to work on talk talk...I had my nexus then and it flew..I know the nexus is like that though lol. So got the x was a nightmare on WiFi.coverage wise also in the kitchen..it went below a bar. So changed to b and g only. Works okay but still is slow ans doesn't do well.

Turn off 802.11n - That is the problem with the Home Hub 2.0. It's buggy as f00k.

I'm having the exact same problem but with the homehub 3, I was convinced it was a faulty router and have been pestering bt for a new one. I realized it was the phone whenever the same problem happened at the father in laws house (he has a hh3 also). I have been using cyanogenmod for a a few months and this prob only occoured when I started using mike1986's Rom... Maybe someone should tell him
I'm having issues with my One X and my HH3 , it's only started since i went to jellybean. It was fine before now when my HOX is conneced to the router all wireless devices (Ipad and laptops-win7/ubuntu) will drop out and back in of connection. Sometimes the router will drop it's broadband connection then come straight back up.
It's driving me mad.
Hi all, The wifi issue I need to discuss is NOT talked about in this forum before (I have searched manually). This wifi issue of Nexus 7 2 was an incidental finding. I have this unit since 2 months now and at present I am on the latest build of MahdiRom (flo). Everything works fine and smooth except... the Wifi LAN upload speed is very low, around 170 KB/s (kilo BYTES). While the download speed is upto 1.5MB/s (Mega Byte). My old HTC HD2 (also on same Wifi local network) shows 1.0MB/s uploads and same download speeds. It seems that something is PREVENTING the wifi of Nexus 7 2 from reaching its max. upload speed. This issue persists even on STOCK ROM (KK 4.4.2 KOT49H). I tried to do the speed test of wifi local network through a wifi adhoc connection but didn't know how to do that. Instead, I used an app called Fast File Transfer" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.floriandraschbacher.fastfiletransfer).This app uses Wi-Fi Tethering for establishing a connection between the devices but does not need the Internet. And to my surprise it showed upto 2.1 MB/s upload speed of Nexus 7 2, meaning that the wifi adpater is working fine!!!
My setup:
1. Wimax broadband modem (DHCP is ON, IP: 192.168.15.1)
2. Linksys WRT54G (DHCP OFF, (acitng as a wireless access point) Set to Wireless G only mode, Security set to WPA-2, IP: 192.168.15.10)
3. HTC HD2 (Android Gingerbread 2.3.7 custom rom by JauguarAlani, IP: 192.168.15.15)
4. Nexus 7 2 (2013) (Mahdirom latest build KK 4.4.2 ( build number KVT49L)
I hope you get the picture.. I would be much grateful if anyone would kindly direct me in the right direction. Thanks
N.B: Also tried FTP method, but still the same speed.
I presume the IP address in 1&2 (.1 & .2) is a typo. What is the speed of your internet connection as claimed by your ISP or tested?

Thanks for responding. NO, there is no typo! The Wimax Broadband Modem has an IP: 192.168.15.1. It is the Gateway and its DHCP is ON. The Linksys WRT54G has an IP: 192.168.15.10 (static), and its DHCP is OFF. All other devies also have static IPs. The speed of my Internet Connection is 1.0 (one megabit/s) and I am getting slightly more than what I should be getting. This issue strictly has to do something with my Local Wireless Network. Thanks anyway.
Update! Problem solved!!!

My router was set for "G-Only" devices so I tried the option "Mixed" that is, B and G both. And it worked!! Although it doesn't make any sense, since my HTC HD2 (a four year old phone, running Android GB 2.3.7 was already performeing very good with the G-Only setting, but anyway, my problem is solved!
makes sense to me, since the router would be doing a lot of extra work to make sure it only used the newer protocol, and somehow it interfered with the nexus...But glad your solved!
