was found upon initial inspection. however, this may or may not relate to the failure symptoms.

You actually sent your phone in for a scratch? That better be a pretty serious scratch because now they want you to pay money to replace the whole damn panel.

From what i'm seeing they are considering your device out of warranty (OOW), no doubt due to your bad flash. The touchpanel and standard charge + lcd charge comments lead me to believe that they are replacing atleast the top glass, if not the entire SAMOLED and as best i can figure from the last 2 lines whoever received the package chose not to make the decision of whether the damage to the touchpanel was caused in shipping. Most likely this determination will be made by the tech who does the actual work on the phone. I would expect you will have a 100% like new device when you receive it back, however much that may run you is the part i would be worried about .

I do believe he sent it in for repair because he borked the bootloader flashing an incorrect ROM, as per the first sentence of the post.

I hope you're right bro!
Have any of you sent a phone to samsung and had this ooW message too? because in the price detail area it says this...
ITEM OLD PRICE NEW PRICE
Standard Repair Fee $0.00 $0.00
LCD Repair Fee $0.00 $0.00
Sub Total $0.00 $0.00
Tax $0.00 $0.00
Total Cost $0.00 $0.00
All Total Cost
so are they fixing everything for free or what??

Im guessing that was on the same document....having seen that i'm certainly stumped now as well. I can only think of 2 possibilities, either they are doing the work under warranty even though the notes clearly state otherwise OR they just haven't added any invoices to your work order. Only time will tell, but i wouldn't be too concerned about the phone itself, they'll be sure to get it back to you good as new one way or another.

what the ****k they tryna make me pay $170

DAMN!!!! Samsung is crazy... Tell them you wont pay and let them return it to you. You can unbrick it yourself anyway, with the help of XDA of course.. Btw my GPS doesn't work and I bought the phone full price, but I won't send it to Samsung cuz i'm scared they will charge me like they are charging you.. Bastards!

I got my phone fixed for a broken screen and got the same marks on my ticket. Oow is out of warranty and it set me back $180. My price showed as $0 like yours but after a few transfers on Samsung support line someone told me what I needed to pay. In you're case you just need a jtag and mobiletechvideos can do it for $60. Oh, and you can tell them to send you back your broken phone for free.

Not saying you should do this, and it is dishonest, but you can reset you're flash counter then Odin to stock and return the device(just make sure its the right stock) and they will never know you flashed a rom, and with no physical damage its obviously hardware failure.

Flashing an international rom borks the bootloader which is most likely going to need a JTAG to repair, although this can be done cheaper as xijar mentions above its not a DIY fix.

If the problem with the GPS is in fact truly a hardware defect, removing any custom software to avoid a denial of warranty is completely honest.

Im gonna argue with theme and say its their update that ****ed my phone up which that cost is 70 dollars and for the scratch ill probably pay for that cuz it looks ugly .. Or if they buy my lie i could probably say keep the scratch and just yell at theme for their software update
idk man this $170 is bs

I'm rooted, and screen is broke... which way should i go?

my assurion insurance cost $80 to replace. but I'm rooted. I'm concerned i won't be able to root if it has the new gingerbread firmware on it. i know it will be more expensive to pay for a repair. so can anyone toss me a bone?
i would like a link to replacement parts if possible because i have a friend that c can repair my phone at no cost if i pay for the parts.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
Best thing to do would try to find a broken "replacement parts" phone on ebay with a working screen.
You can root the ota bud. I will sell you a pre rooted thunderbolt lnib for 150 + your phone? [email protected]
Say you lost it, they should charge you the 80 and get you a new or a refurb
Get your insurance. They don't give a **** about root. Then root the replacement
Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk
Exactly. Just use your insurance. Why would Asurion care if you rooted your phone or not? It's 3rd party insurance, you're not claiming warranty repair or anything. Your car insurance doesn't drop you just because you bought and installed a new stereo. $80 is going to be cheaper than anyone will fix your phone for anyway, and you'll get a new phone instead of the same one that probably has dings on it from getting dropped. Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll be out of Thunderbolts and send you a Bionic or something instead.
So I watched my Eagles get beat by the bears and dropped my phone. Insult to injury! Does anyone have success replacing their screen? If so, where did you get parts and tools? Please don't recommend a seller, brand or manufacturer that you haven't personally had success with... Links please

Talked to a rep at asurion they said under the table they really don't care if its rooted they complete erase and reinstall all new software on all new phone so they don't really check.

Cracked my screen, no warranty...how much will it cost?

I managed to crack my tablet already . It's just the glass, the tablet works fine and the screen looks and works normally underneath. If I call samsung how much will it cost? Is it possible for me to fix it myself, or is everything fused together?

Sorry to hear that. This is just my opinion but because this tablet is newly released I doubt you will find much on the internet on how to replace the screen on your own, I think you will also struggle to find the parts. Calling samsung would probably be your best bet if you want it fixed now or if you can wait a couple of months I'm sure there will be videos online about how to do it. Hopefully it works out for you mate.

I should have made my point clearer, apologies, I meant that they should give you contact details of samsung aprroved technicians in the area but yes he would have to pay for the service.
Thanks for the replies...I called up Samsung and they said to send it and they'd fix it for 200$..ouch. I'm not sure if that's worth it or not. I'm considering taking it to a third party computer repair shop or just dealing with it until the parts become widely available. It works fine, it's just ugly XD. This all depends on if the price was reasonable. Is 200$ reasonable to replace the glass? If it is I'll just ship it off to Samsung now

I think $200 is way too much - I know this is easy for me to say but if I were you I'd wait a while, to put it into perspective the OLD note 10.1 Digitizer costs just $20 and maybe a few tools will cost you no more than $10.
Honestly I'd wait and see if its really difficult or not and then attempt it yourself if you think your capable to do it. I bet there will be videos online of people taking the 10.1 2014 edition screen apart soon but then again if you mess it up you've wasted a $500 device. Also call a few local electronic shops once the Digitizer becomes available on ebay surely they will charge a lot less for labour.
Like I said its easy for me to say all this but obviously you know whats best. Best of luck mate I really do hope it works out.
I purchased it with a prepaid debit card so no purchase protection. I think I'll just take Geordie Affy's advice and wait it out. 200 bucks is a pretty significant amount of money for me. The wait will punish me enough so I'll know to be super careful with expensive new items in the future lol.

I would sell it on ebay for $75 less than what you paid for it.
You may get a bite.
Then chalk up the loss as experience.
Curious to know how much force did it take or what happened that made it crack.

Search online for SquareTrade discounts. I got 30% off mine for the GN 2014. If you are within 30 days of your purchase, you can still purchase a warranty, and claim it down the road at some point. That's kind of in the "Grey Zone", but may be your best bet until the parts are easily available.

If I were you, I would get the SquareTrade warranty. There is no way that they would know about any conversations that you had with Samsung. Plus, even after you get this issue taken care of, it will still benefit you to have the warranty to tackle any future problems. They are pretty easy to deal with in my experience.

I'm just worried that since samsung sent me an email to send the tablet to them and everything, they have it on record that I called it in. Then when squaretrade calls them...Still though, I guess I can get the insurance and even if they don't fix it, it'll be useful to have for any future issues. I'm pretty clumsy

SquareTrade doesn't care if you ROOT your device. I spoke with one of their service reps, and asked that specifically before I purchased the warranty.

My tab pro s cracked too, and I have no idea how. Is this screen particularly fragile? Mine shows pitting on the keyboard at the same place where the fracture begins. I'm thinking it might have something to do with the magnet that shuts it. Read on Amazon that someone had cracked theirs twice already and the screen was super fragile. ???

[Q] the s4 and tmobile headset protection bundle

First off, sorry if this is the wrong section, I think it might be. I've done a lot of searches and can't find an answer for this. I got a s4 and it has been great but now it is showing a slight screen burn in out of nowhere. My husband has the premium headset protection bundle and i was going to give him this phone as a gift, now I wonder if he can use his insurance to get that defective screen fixed or replaced or the device swapped out because it really sucks. or is that insurance only for an old device or I don't know, I tried reading the booklet but I'm confused. and will there be a deductible? My friend said it is only $5 shipping but I'm not so sure.. If anyone has experience with this, please let me know.

If you got it from t-mobile and it is still in warranty then you should be fine and it should only cost you $5, the headset protection you are talking about only covers the phone you take the protection with..... But in any case it is still worth a try, just don't mention any thing about your phone being out of warranty. I got mine swapped for $5 even after 14 months

Problem with you HTC10 and need to exchange, You have to make a new order

So my HTC 10 has a yellow tint on the screen at the bottom so I want to swap it out for a new one. Their only course of action is to return the old one and place as new order. Giving them another $640. Now I have tied up $1,200 into HTC. I have to pay for and organize my own return label and I also lose out on the overnight shipping I paid on my original order. They won't overnight me the new order, when they should since its their defect. I really do not feel good about trusting HTC/digital river with another $630 hoping my refund and return goes smoothly. Especially after the launch troubles.
Just wanted to give anyone a heads up about the recourse if your htc 10 has a defect or problem. Only process is to return and place a new order and it will cost you another $10 for over night shipping again. So because they made a defect unit it costs me another $10 to get what I ordered and a good unit. I know the process is usually the same with having another hold on my card but I do not like having to pay overnight shipping again. Might just return and jump ship instead of risking more problems.
Who did you use to overnight it for $10? That's a deal!

Fedex isnt bad with insurance i think it was $14 I was actually shocked. I used the dimensions of the box they shipped to me. I still cant believe we have to go out and get our own label and everything. Pay for return shipping and pay shipping again on the new order. Its so terrible.

I don't think they can afford to send out shipping labels for free.
HTC is bleeding money right now.. according to their latest quarterly
I had to return mine cause the speakers were blown right out of the box. They gave me a free shipping label after I yelled at them enough. I am in the same boat though with having to pay another 600 + shipping and have no idea when they will even send out my order.
I am very surprised at this. You should have a years warranty on the phone. Now for something like the yellow tint, I could see HTC's point and say that was something like users opinion rather than fault. But for an obvious fault like blown speakers, I would argue that definitely falls under warranty and should definitely be fixed / replaced. What did they tell you guys when you said that you wanted it fixed under warranty?
EDIT: Looking at warranty they class it has a limited warranty! Here is the US document and the UK document

Front glass broken

Hi there,
today I dropped my phone on the street and the front glass got broken. The phone is still fully working. Touchscreen and everything else works without problems.
A couple of months ago I changed the front glass of a Samsung Galaxy S4 with all the necessary stuff, e.g. loca glue. For the first trial the result was acceptable. No reading the other threads:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3522863
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3592043
most of the posters don't recommend the replacement of the front glass. On ebay I can find both only the frontglass (about 10€) and the full suited display (about 135€). If I take an offer from china, the price would lower to 65€. Another option would be to send the phone to Oneplus and let those guys repair it.
Now the decisions I have to made:
Just buying the front glass: Would be an option, if it is the same difficulty like the Samsung phones. But I've found only one Youtube Tutorial. At 1:45 he puts something on the screen, but not sure if it's clue or just something to clean.
Buying a display from China: for about 65€ would be also ok. This can take up to 6 weeks of shipping. And in some forums I've read the quality should be much lower than the original parts from Oneplus. Does anyone have any experience about this?
Sending to Oneplus ist the last option. But this depends on the price. I opened a ticket and now I'm waiting for their offer.
What would you recommend? Has anybody changed the frontglass and can tell me about the success?

Open the ticket mate. No fuss. You'll get your device going in maximum 2 weeks. I tried replacing the glass myself and failed, I cracked the screen half way through...
Buying from eBay... Idk, but if people say they're not original, why Risk? Then again there's the struggle of doing it yourself.
The cheapest and safest is to send it to ONEPLUS.
Cheers

I have replaced hundreds of screens in devices and for the most part it is cheaper and far easier then anything else.
Im about to replace my USB port myself as soon as my tool kit gets here on Monday.
I would never send a device to the OEM to be fixed. It will cost you twice as much plus the time without a device is just stupid.
I have always trusted these people with all the stuff I need to repair. Never trust some random Youtube video.

You could find a cheaper knock off im sure but I hold a simple believe when it comes to electronics. You get what you pay for. You buy cheap and you get cheap.
The USB port was like 4 bucks with 25 dollars shipping lol.

That's been my general experience as well, with probably the exception of Intel CPUs. Got my 1700X and is better for building than a 7700K or 8700K for almost half the price.

Got an answer from Oneplus:
Screen: EUR 57.20
Fingerprint Sensor: EUR 12.60
Labor: EUR 18.50
Vat: 23%
Total: EUR 108.61
Not sure, if there are any shippig costs to be added.

57 Euros doesn't sound bad actually especially if it's the regular screen.

What? It may suck to send your device away but why are you saying they charge you twice as much? That's misinformation. I sent mine and it only cost 80£ (labour and shipping included). Where can you buy an original display for 80 quid? Even the Knock offs from eBay cost more than that.

You are not adding in the cost of buying g another disposable device to use for the weeks your device is gone. That's for you. Do you know how much it would cost from the US for a repair?

Great! The price surprised me. When my LG V10 died I sent it in thinking it was going to be a free repair for the bootloop issue.. $400 USD to replace motherboard. **** that lol

That's the issue is being in the states. It will always be a lot more expencive coming from there then from anywhere in Europe.

Yep! Not gonna pay $400 to repair a device that is literally $100 something on Ebay or Swappa, and I am definitely not going to pay $400 for a device that is guaranteed going to bootloop again in only a years time. So I spent $300 and bought a new OP3. Originally got the V10 because as someone coming from IOS, I automatically thought all Android phones could be unlocked and rooted with ease, with some o them sweet custom ROMs. This guy didn't do his research and ended up with using LG's, horrible, horrible (I cannot stress this enough) software. Not to mention the extra thick layer of AT&T bloat behind it. I don't really care about the hardware in a phone, as long as its good enough to have the software run good.

I hear you there. I had a g2 for a while. Then moved to the nexus but the 6 had issues dealing with the cold. So got the 1+3 for a steal from a dev. To be honest. I wanted to hate it because the CEO is an idiot. But other then some crappy BT issues when on a weak wifi connection. (licensing issues I'm sure) and the fact it won't work with my smart watch. I really can't complain about about.
I replaced my Motherboard and Battery by sending it to Oneplus. I do live in the EU so that could be a big difference. But a DHL driver picked it up on Monday. And I got it back the same week on Friday fully repaired without additional costs. A screen replacement here costs about €100 which is not expensive at all.. The problem mainly is that original parts are very rare and mostly fake.

I used DHL for the first time Getting the USB port. Ordered it before Xmas and got it 2 weeks later. I was impressed with DHL as they went out of their way to make sure I got the package.
