Has any one tried the unreleased Gmail 4.2 on a GNex? I am running MMuzzy's 4.1.2 Jelly Bean on a Verizon LTE and would like to try it.

Yes..I'm even running it on 4.1.1 Stock JellyBean

Yeah it works flawlessly. You just gotta replace the apk from system app folder with the 4.2 version because the signature is different
Swyped on my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP with Franco Kernel
Thanks all. I will give it a try.

Just back up and uninstall gmail using TiBU, then install apk like you would anyother, no need to go through the hassle of hunting down all associated files in /data and /system/app

Well if you do that, the app will become user app, not system app. I don't know about you, but I personally would rather have Gmail system app then user app
I've have it installed for couple of days on 4.1.2 - without any issues. Like the pinch to zoom and swipe to delete..

Can anyone point me in the right direction for where I can find or extract apks for the stock Android 4.1 mail/exchange app along with the messaging app? I've given it a day but I'm not a big fan of Samsung's. The calendar is pretty bad too...
I tried flashing the CM10 messaging app but it didn't work, I assume there are other dependencies that it's missing, though it's supposed to work on stock JB devices. Has anyone had any luck with it?

google "GAPPS" for stock google android apps or you can google 4.2 GAPPS for the lastest 4.2 version of GAPPS
CM10 apps only works on CM10 based ROMs, all of us are using Samsung based ROM's.
Cm messaging on the market.

GAPPS doesn't include the mms or exchange apps. I'll try extracting from another ROM.

BUT, try TextSecure. It has a few extra features that you can ignore, its about as close as you can get to stock that im aware of.
Could also try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1915590.

Hmmm, yeah I see its not there anymore.
Alright this was a bit of a pain but I figured it out. Here is the stock Exchange app that worked, and here is the stock MMS application (threading is working). For posterity I've also attached them as uploads.
Uninstall the existing apps using Titanium Backup or by manually nuking the MMS, SecEmail, and SecExchange apk and .odex files from /system/apps and then flash these via TWRP or CWM. Next is up is contacts and calendar
CM10 Messenger App
This CM10 mms apk from the Note 1's Liquid Smooth ROM seems to work flawlessly. Popups and threading are all working correctly. I extracted from the ROM itself, but here's the apk itself.
Same deal, nuke the stock mms, move this to /system/apps/ and install.

Yes I too am having fc's while sending mms. Went back to other attached mms.zip and works perfect.
sent using gNote II.
Confirmed I also have force close when sending an mms.Bummer.
This one works flawlessly so far. SMS, MMS, Emoji's, etc. Enjoy!

Unbelievable, I must have tried ten different versions. This one works flawlessly - thank you so much!
Edit: nevermind I just realized it's stock and not the CM10 version with popups. I think I'll roll stock with the SMS Popup program though and call it a day. Thanks again.
Hey guys, since I am a noob in Android development in general, can someone please port the Phone.apk (attached) to Stock JB 4.2 with or without odex file.
I haven't tested this apk yet on 4.2 because I am paranoid. Or anyone can provide me information regarding if it would work directly (without porting).
My main idea behind porting is because of vibration (while call pickup and hang up) stuff that CM provides.
Thank you.
*BUMP*
I tried on Bigxie's Deodexed 4.2 ROM and it force closes. So can anyone please port it.
Install as a system apk and it should work just fine.

just pull it from the rom and push to system
Not going to work.
I read somewhere that the Phone.apk have to be signed by the signature that sign the ROM.
I'm pretty sure the way i phrase is not completely correct but i'm sure you can get the idea.
To the guys who are saying to install as a system app: I, in the first place pushed the APK using zip file but it didn't work. Mach3.2 might be correct. If you guys want to know why I want a port for it, just ask away.

This is a very stupid question but can you flash gapps 4.2 on a touchwiz based rom? I'm running Blackjelly rom and would like to flash either 4.1.2 or 4.2 apps, is that possible or will they keep crashing?

Another question
I have another question about G apps. Instead of having to flash the G-apps, is it alright to restore the app only from a backup app like Titanium backup from an older ics rom. Or will this cause any kind of problem?
I'm pretty sure it would work but it'll have duplicates in the system folder so you'll have to manually delete that
I am using several 4.2 apps (gmail, keyboard, Playstore, camera) on TW ICS and they work just fine. I usually use the stock camera because as far as I can find, 4.2 camera does not allow external storage. I'm guessing this is connected to Nexus 4 not having external storage. Maybe mods will be made as 4.2 becomes available for other devices.
Could you please post the link to the forum where you got the gapps from?

I have a Galaxy Note II running Paranoid Android version 3.15, (Android 4.2) and I'm trying to get the stock apps working, like the stock camera/gallery, S Planner, S Note, etc. They don't seem to work on 4.2 based ROMs but work on 4.1 based ones. I copied all the neccesary APKs to system/app and wiped dalvik cache, but the apps don't show up on my app tray. Also set permissions for the apps to rw-r-r using root explorer, still nothing. Am I doing something wrong? Any of you can help out?

They rely heavily on the TouchWiz framework, so it's highly unlikely they'd work on AOSP/AOKP-based ROMs without heavy editing.

Our you can just install a TW based Rom. Unless you have to use 4.2. I don't use them because I've had them all on my skyrocket. And couldn't live without my features on my GN2!!
