[SOLVED] Stock mail and messaging apps / CM10 messaging - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Can anyone point me in the right direction for where I can find or extract apks for the stock Android 4.1 mail/exchange app along with the messaging app? I've given it a day but I'm not a big fan of Samsung's. The calendar is pretty bad too...
I tried flashing the CM10 messaging app but it didn't work, I assume there are other dependencies that it's missing, though it's supposed to work on stock JB devices. Has anyone had any luck with it?

google "GAPPS" for stock google android apps or you can google 4.2 GAPPS for the lastest 4.2 version of GAPPS
CM10 apps only works on CM10 based ROMs, all of us are using Samsung based ROM's.

Cm messaging on the market.

GAPPS doesn't include the mms or exchange apps. I'll try extracting from another ROM.

Could also try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1915590.

Hmmm, yeah I see its not there anymore.

Alright this was a bit of a pain but I figured it out. Here is the stock Exchange app that worked, and here is the stock MMS application (threading is working). For posterity I've also attached them as uploads.
Uninstall the existing apps using Titanium Backup or by manually nuking the MMS, SecEmail, and SecExchange apk and .odex files from /system/apps and then flash these via TWRP or CWM. Next is up is contacts and calendar

CM10 Messenger App
This CM10 mms apk from the Note 1's Liquid Smooth ROM seems to work flawlessly. Popups and threading are all working correctly. I extracted from the ROM itself, but here's the apk itself.
Same deal, nuke the stock mms, move this to /system/apps/ and install.

Yes I too am having fc's while sending mms. Went back to other attached mms.zip and works perfect.
sent using gNote II.

Confirmed I also have force close when sending an mms.Bummer.

This one works flawlessly so far. SMS, MMS, Emoji's, etc. Enjoy!

Unbelievable, I must have tried ten different versions. This one works flawlessly - thank you so much!
Edit: nevermind I just realized it's stock and not the CM10 version with popups. I think I'll roll stock with the SMS Popup program though and call it a day. Thanks again.

You obviously do not read others posts...
@OP
I tried to insert them as system apps, but on Sammy ROM, the phone functionality is gone when deletein the original SecPhone.apk. So I'm pretty sure that it does not work that easy.

What posts should I read? and why don't you help the OP then?
As for dialer replacement apps, they don't replace everything (most often only dialing pad and/or contacts list) and often are unstable.
I replaced secmms.apk with aosp. Works fine. Had to name it same and reboot. Did you try that with dialler?

1. He wanted a solution without a whole CM9 ROM, you told him he could install such a ROM. Questions? No...
2. I told him that the stock CM9/AOKP Dialer app does not work in Sammy ROMS.
Thats kinda help imho.
@OP
I tried ExDialer from market with ICS theme. Very nice. But the original Dialer app from ROM needs to be active in ROM. Without it=No phone connectivity.

[Q] Callulin E4GT v1.6 ICS mms

I apologize if this has been asked before or if this is the wrong place, I'm having some issues searching from my E4GT.
Some background: I flashed Calkulin's ICS v1.6 rom, and its great!
The only problem is I don't care for the touchwiz messaging app. I really like the vanilla ICS messaging app though, and I tried replacing the mms.apk in /system/app, rebooting and wiping dalvik and cache. This mostly works, but I can't receive any messages when I do this. I can send however. Am I doing something wrong, is there a working stock mms.apk that I can load, or does the stock app need to be modified?
Thank you very much for your help guys!

What you did should've worked. I'd suggest trying it with another TW MMS.apk and seeing if you still have the issues. Here is the one I normally use. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/60430147/Installers/Mms (Themed B&W).apk
If you still have the issue there may be something else going on. If it works I'd pull a fresh MMS.apk from a stock ROM and try pushing it again?
Good luck!

I forgot to ask, did you remember to set permissions?
Thanks for the reply!
I did try another TW mms.apk, and that did work. Only the stock apk wouldn't work. I did check permissions too, and they were rw-r--r-- I believe. Don't have it in front of me. Either way, it matched the permissions of other system apps.
I think I may just try out another ICS rom. I've been playing a lot lately and loved AOKP but with build 40 had some strange volume issues, so maybe CM9 for a bit ha ha.
Thanks for the help again, I'll give it another go when I get a bit of time.
I'm not sure if the AOSP messaging app will work correctly on TW. A lot of vanilla apps don't work across like that. Doesn't it require you to build it with the TW framework or decompile and do some .smali edits before building?
Just speculation on my part. I remember not being able to use vanilla apps on my G2 with Sense roms so I'd figure it would be the same here for the most part.
Try ics messaging from play store, its free

REQUEST: AOSP messaging app (mms.apk)

I'm anxiously awaiting pure AOSP or CM based ROMS - I'm sure they're coming soon.
I'm not a dev, but I am fairly savvy. I'm trying to get a working mms.apk ported to the stock OG ROM. I get terribly frustrated with the stock mms app bug I've discussed in another thread and know it is related to the mms app and not the keyboard. I'd like to revert to the AOSP messaging app if possible (and avoid GO SMS or Handcent).
So far I've tried the following:
1. Install Android 4.1 JB Messaging SMS by Tim Hutt from the Play Store -- everything works beautifully except no MMS
2. Copy stock mms.apk to /system/app, rename LGUSmms.apk, change file permissions, reboot -- again, everything works fine, except MMS won't send a pic, it'll attach it, but when you hit send the pic just disappears
***I'm wondering if I need to rename the new mms.apk to LGUSmms.apk???
If anyone has any advice/tips/ideas I'd be very grateful.

Tried that too and MMS still doesn't work. Reloaded the stock messaging app and it worked instantly. Asked on the IRC too and still couldn't figure it out.

[Q] Hangouts on 4.4.2

While hangouts was nice when it first came out, I find it irritating now. The real pain in the azz is that it is the stock messenger in BeanStalk 4.4.2. No MMS.APK file is included. Does anyone have an apk that would be compatible with this version? I have several 4.4 ROM's. Didn't know if I could extract that apk and use it.

I don't see why it wouldn't work! If you have an apk that was used in a previous 4.4 build then lace it in the system folder and it should work fine!
should work fine

any messaging app should be fine, I used Go SMS and other apps with no problem.
by the way, there were few recent updates to hangouts and they improved it, I use it now, so I suggest you will update to most recent version through google play and try again.
Good luck!

Thats the thing. 4.4 does not come with an mms.apk file. 4.3 was the last build that had one. And when I put it into the apk folder and try and run it, it force closes and my current messaging app fk's up.
Just download messenger

[Q] Missing default messaging app

HI guys ,
I rooted my note 2 to get some tweaks going but instead i ended up losing my default messaging app. What happened was that i tried to install cyanogen-mod messaging app which didn't work so i decided to uninstall it , when i did that it somehow took my default messaging app with it which i do not understand at all. My question is if there is a way i could get it back ? Google didn't help much.

Try my copy. I overwrite all my ROM's stock messaging app with this one, always works for me.

As you probably know, put in system/app with correct permissoins, install by clicking it through your root-enabled file manager.

The part where you said as you probably know is not quite true coz I installed the cyanogen mod messaging app through cyanogen mod install manager which is available at play store. The whole thing was a misunderstanding coz the messaging app doesnt really work on stock roms which I found out after the mess up. If you could write me the step by step to follow that'd be wonderful. Thnx for the reply pal

Appreciate the help but when i was trying to paste the other messaging apk file into the system/app folder it found the original messaging app there which i never thought to check , i know silly me.
Thnx tweeny and the rest
