Hi,
While I'm in a call, the flip cover doesnt turn off the screen when its closed and on the proximity sensor. Its obviously meant to be used that way because there is a hole for the speaker.. thoughts ?
Check that you have not obstructed the prox sensor with a screen protector.
I haven't !

I had this problem with the original Note. I can only assume the change is too sudden, or the cover too thin or made of the wrong type of material to be detected. The proximity sensor can only detect 2 states on the original Note, in any case: "nothing within 5 cm" and "something within 5 cm". So we're not dealing with high precision equipment here.
It wont work man,i have tried many times with original note flip cover..

The problem is with the sensitivity of the samsung proximity sensor. it you have black flip cover as is my case, then problem can be solved by using a piece of paper sticked to the cover as i show in picture,
hit thanks if it worked..
Exactly
black flip cover never works as it should, this was issue with note1 too

Hi,
Am having a problem while using note 2 & 10.1 stylus. I encounter a problem while sketching using sketch book I saw there some areas that the pen not recognized well...I thought at 1st it might the touch screen not working probably but it turns the stylus sensor not working well in some areas in screen but when I touch it by hand it works in the same area that the pen not working well. In note 2 I have a half. Circle from the right-side screen to half of my screen which is sooooo annoying while drawing I have to drag the pic the other half screen to draw ,when I bought the phone it was only small line at the edges but after the last update it turns to a half circle. Now i have same problem with note 10.1 which it was working fine in couple of days :/ please help guys I don't know how to fix this.
I have other friends having different problem with stylus but not same as me. The 1st having a problem that the pen keep writing while it hovers at the screen & not touching it & the 2nd having problem with slowness in S Note while changing pen style or size. I really don't know if u guys having problem with ur notes phone while using stylus.
Thanks in advance & I really need ur assistance.
Solution for stylus sensor problem
After some searching I finally found a solution. It appears that the cover with magnetic attach will effect BADLY at stylus sensor & sensitivity. If anyone encounter with the same problem. Check ur cover if it's a magnetic then change it.

If it is kept cuz I already bought it and in fact it keeps the mobile well secured , will it decrease the screen sensitivity in the future ????

No but when the magnet is present it'll mess with the detection of the stylus.

Maybe faulty hardware.

This doesn't happen all the time but enough to start getting annoying. If I make a call where I need to use the keypad for input, I will hold the phone in front of me, start hitting the numbers and the screen disappears. The only way to get it back is to hit power, and it stays on for about 3 seconds and goes out again.
My wife had a Galaxy Nexus that had the same issue. Is this something that can be fixed?
Having similar problem....
add to that.. the proximity sensor doesn't always work.
The sensor youre talking about is the light sensor. The same one that auto adjusts the brightness. You should make sure it isn't being obstructed by anything such as a screen protector or smudges on the screen.

Not using a screen protector, but I am using a Seidio Surface case. I can't remember if it was happening before that. Might have to run the phone naked again and check.
My wife had a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon that had the same issue, but that was a while ago...
UPDATE: Having the issue whether the case is on or not...
Any ideas?
I don't think anyone else has this problem. It might be just a bunk phone. Take it to att and get it swapped
Galaxy Note II
It's pretty common on the S3 as well. Haven't seen a solution. Drives my brother insane.

The best thing to so is to input *#7353# on the dialpad and select proximity sensor. Wave your hand over the sensor to verify. If it doesnt work, check your case or screen protector if any to see of its covering it. If it isnt, go to att to have it swapped under warranty.

I was running the *#0*# Test and I found something called a grip sensor.

Thanks, sadly i don't use a cover
On Tab 3 8.0, I found flip cover using a different sensor, a magnetic switch. So, grip sensor still not utilized yet (in CM, not sure about stock ROM). It triggers some events when you touch your Tab 3 on the top left side. Any idea how we could uses this sensor? Touch to wake?
I purchased a case for my Note 8.0 that says it has the auto wake/sleep function when you close the cover but it dosen't work, do I have a bad case or a bad Note(refurbished)? Where's the sensor, is it magnetic or light activated. Thanks

I believe it is magnetic since some were complaining about it disabling touch temporarily on part of the screen where the case magnet was at (only on certain cases). I have a case with the function on my Note and it works fine. Will have to check it and see where the magnet is placed.
Hi friends
be careful to use a cover (case ) contains magnate, it may interfere with screen display and may cause screen problems such as blinking or flickering of screen.
Thanks.
Thx for the warning.
But I've been using a cover with magnets for half a year now and never had any issues with it or the screen. Doesn't even the original book cover from samsung have magnets? Does it maybe only affect some tablets?

The book cover does however the magnets are not as strong as the ones in the after market cases hence the distortion and wierd effects they have been causing to screens.
The "Case" thread has loads of people reporting magnet related problems
