One X on T-Mobile - HTC One X

I have great news (at least for me it is)!! I have been receiving 3G and 4G(H+) signals about two miles from my residence. The city I was in was Rowland Heights, California. The signal kept fluctuating from 3G to H, so I'm sure it's still some time before it's readily available.
Just wanted to report this so people know that there are people currently receiving 3G/H.
*I'm using a 50.01 sim card.

This is very positive news....I am still trying to decide whether to give up on Tmobile and switch to StraightTalk. I too have been getting the same signals in Atlanta International Airport and parts of Minneapolis. There is actually a website used to track signtings of the T-mobile 3G/HSPA+ coverage on 1900 MHz...I cannot post it but i am sure if you google it, you'll find it

Yup...I've been waiting for this type of news for a while now. I've been on Straight Talk and it has been mediocre at best and can't wait to get back onto TMO USA. I'm following http://www.airportal.de on TWITTER under @UMTS1900 and am getting routine updates from people indicating they are receiving 3G/4G on their iphones. It's pretty darn cool but my only concern is that there is now way to validate the source. Otherwise, anyone can go on there and indicate they are receiving 4G signal so be cautious of that.
Otherwise, time to cancel ST and enjoy TMO 4G again on my HOX!!!

I posted on the site myself. And now after filling in all the required info they require AND after getting data in all the spots on the map in my area I trust that site at least for San diego .

Sending back my Tmobile TP2

not because i dont like the phone, but because i found tmobile's service to be vastly inferior compared to ATT. I have a way to get unlimited minutes via google voice, so i need fave 5, so i think i'll be switching to verizon.
Any eta on when the verizon TP2 comes out?
What exactly do you mean by vastly inferior? I think T-Mobiles serive is great and very cheap but it's all about the area you are in. You should always go with the carrier who has the best coverage in your area.
i'm in the MD/DC/VA area.
i'm driving through areas that tmobile reports Great coverage, but i'm still experiencing dropped calls, breaking up of reception, no 3g service (it drops to edge, or G). sometimes i can't transmit ANY data
when it works, it works great, but as i'm on the road quite a bit (realtor), i need something that i can talk on reliably. ATT isn't supposed to be that great, but i definitely value their service over what i got with tmobile. i'll have to wait for verizon
i thought tmobile would be a great option just because of their costs, but the service degradation isn't worth the savings to me.
Ever since one of my old jobs, something became quite obvious to me. No matter what service you have, if you are getting **** service, the price is of no relevance. **** is **** at any price.
I have no problems with it here in Southern California, but I do understand your needs. The one on Verizon won't be out till I think they were saying Oct or something like that.

I am in the same situation, I am trying out the TMobile but here in Puerto Rico is not 3g yet but I really like the phone and Att doesnt look that are going to release it soon, if they actually are going to do it... ???
They're only focusing on more densly populated areas at the moment.

Thanks for the info. Do they consider Puerto Rico a populated area? Do you know when they are going to launch it here?
According to T-mo I should be getting 3 bars (NOT) in my house but if I even pick up the TP2 I have no signal. I have repeatedly called to complain and all my neighbors also called with T-Mo to complain so after 4 months of *****ing they claim they are buying space on a tower close to me in 120 days (we shall see)...Tj
petitioning for better service isnt an option for me as i am within my trial period, and by the time they would act on it (if at all) the tp2 will be out on all the other carriers

Wow that is quite awesome. I should do the same in my area by my home. Signal is usually 1-2 bars, with it hovering around 1 bar more often than not.
I played with the TP2 on the T-Mobile 14 day trial. It was terrible! T-Mobile not the TP2! The phone is AWESOME!
Dropped calls, garbled calls, and the data is so slow you can’t get a connection half the time (browser timing out) and with Google maps the page refresh/update was so slow you would drive right off the page onto a blank screen even at moderate speeds around town. I travel around the country and it was no better anywhere. Even with 3G showing!
I’m with Verizon (not had hardly any issues with service) and plan to wait until they offer it, PLEASE DON’T START THE Verizon Vis …. Thing. Just stating an asked for opinion.

Sprint is going to release the tp2 on Sept 8th so I don't think Verizon is going to release it no later than Sept.
Guess your mileage will vary...
Here in s fl, tmo works great for me. Had att some years ago, also good here. Tmo price and cs seems better to me. Got the unlimited loyal customer plan for $49.99month. Hard to beat that.
No dropped calls, ever, and the ph seems to ring for ever if I don't answer.
Web pages open fast.
I seem to get 3-4 bars H3g service most of the time around here. Never seen 5 bars though.
Here is a screen shot at my office showing 4 bars H3g.
Same thing here. I live in Tampa and I always have full bars with 3g. but then again I think Tampa is the 11th largest city in US so it would make sense we all have pretty good service over here. Most people here, that I know or come across have t-mobile. The only thing verizon is good for around here is Fios. what;s sprint? ;p; and at&t are for rich preppy kids who think theyre cool with their iphones. At least...thats the trend over here

I was about to say that, in fact the reason I never moved over to a better T-Mobile deal was because of the crap 3g.
Speaking to orange when I upgraded to the Desire last week they reckon it will take 18 months to integrate the network so I cant see T-Mobile doing anything when plans are all ready in the pipe line
I think you should read your T's & C's, just because you have a phone, they have a network, there is no gurantee of service....
T-Mobile are currently merging their 3g network with 3UK's 3g network and that is on going and has been for 2 years.
The merger of Orange and T-Mobile will not bring about any overnight changes. In fact it may be a year or longer before any works are undertaken to merge the networks and once started it could take a year or two to complete.
I'm currently using my T-Mobile SIM in my Desire, and it's all working perfectly.. 3G is blazingly fast, MMS and SMS messages are good, calls are clear with zero drop outs.
Sounds to me like it's just a bunch of people who didn't check the coverage maps...

Hi Ninja,
I work in mobile comms, mainly R&D for my companies mobile technologies for using data capture devices out on the roads. The main issues we have found with trying to transfer data in built up areas are because they are built up areas. We work in London and Birmingham and to say the least the 3G coverage we find is really sporadic, this is mainly due to the high rise buildings blocking and bouncing the signal all over the place, it has nothing to do with network coverage its just the way it is in.
Hmm, this is making me a little nervous.
I'm getting concerned about T-Mob coverage, as I've been trying to sign up as a new customer.
Hrm. Should I be cancelling ASAP?

I can accept that langers- but the issue myself and these folk are having is that while the HSDPA connection is fine (blisteringly fast at times), 3G is non-existent. If only it were sporadic.
I was in Bath for my easter break and had the same issue there. HSDPA was great. 3G was non-existent.

TBH Sobrique if you live in a city then all the providers will have the same problem, my company has used O2 and Orange and they both suffered from urban signal degradation. Being on Orange when I have been out and about I am pretty confidant I will get a signal where I am going, this includes sitting on top of a mountain in the lake district uploading my fb photos I have taken 30secs earlier. Best bet all ways check the coverage maps but bare in mind you will all ways have probs in the city (where u can usually pick up free wifi)

You're either in a poor reception area, are suffering from the same kind of "canyoning" that messes up GPS, or something nearby is interfering with your signal.
T-Mobiles network is generally fine, and certainly isn't deserving of anything as silly as a petition.
Have you tried other network SIMs?
phone is locked. so i can't try other sims. Look, if you visit the tmobile thread, their tech staff have posted and said there is an issue. They know there's an issue and they're investigating. It's no ones imagination or location. As i've said, i've moved around london and the uk quite a bit. I find the problem everywhere.
So it's either our particular handsets or something more. I'm happy you have no issues, but don't dismiss those that have. I'm not endorsing the petition, i can just identify with the problem. I'd like T-mobile to address it.

You HAVE to have 3g service to get HSDPA, it is a function of a 3g network. If it wasn't then you've found 2.75g as you got HSDPA in a 2g area if there was no 3g

Someone more technical than myself would have to confirm that. All i know is that the phone connects under these different states and displays one of the following...
G - GPRS
E - Edge
3G - 3G
H - HSDPA (or 3.5g as it's sometimes known)
Yes, the last two are under the 3g family, but they must operate under a different..."band"?
I'm saying that when "3G" shows on the screen - nothing. When "H" does, all is well.
I use T-Mobile in London , used it on my G2 and now the Desire. Never had any major issues with it. I often watch you tube on the train home and its generally pretty good until I go in a tunnel.
You dont tend to hang around in tunnels do you?
My phone worked perfectly in Vienna including in the Underground stations and trains. Come back to London / SE same old problems no 3G connection.
Are people actually aware of the issue who are saying it works all ok?

Heh, no
Thanks for posting though, it's just as interesting to hear people on Desire's and G2's that don't have the issue.
The thing is that i have excellent data connection when on 'H', video's browsing, etc. It's when it dips to 3G that the problem happens. This dip happens more in my office location. I'm listening to the guys who say this could be "canyoning" etc. But it's a puzzler that 'H' from the same spot is perfect, whilst '3g' is dead.
It doesn't affect me hugely as it will always eventually flick over to H, but there's a lot of time wasted, waiting for it to do just that.

[Q] Help Galaxy Note 2 on Tmobile USA

Okay, so I have my Galaxy Note 2 and here is the problem. I'm ONLY getting edge data. Now according to Wikipedia TMo's HSPA/HSAP+ runs on the 1900MHz band (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-Mobile_USA#Radio_frequency_spectrum_chart) which the phone is suppose to support. I assume I got the international version, though I got it from Newegg.com and it came with a US Charger and everything.
Can anyone help with this, is there a way to fix it, via any rooting means, etc? I'm ungoddly disappointed as I use my phone a LOT...i can't even use maps because I'm getting like 20K/s on Edge and that's just disgusting.
Unfortunately for you my friend the phone needs to support the 1700/2100 aws band. The international version that you have does not support it.
The best you can hope for is for tmobile to get there 1900 spectrum refarmed in your area to hspa+.
If I were you I would try sending the phone back and just get the Tmobile version when it's released tomorrow.
The only other option would be to sign up with at&T. You will get hspa speeds with them. Or buy the straight talk at&t SIM.

Well.......damn...I can't afford to buy the phone straight out, I bought this one from Newegg using my bill me later credit card. So I didn't have to pay anything down either....this actually blows.
Is the wiki completely wrong? It says the 1700/2100 band is for LTE starting 2013. But the 1900MHz band began service in 2011. So are some areas of the US on 1900 and others on 1700/2100 still? Is there some where you can find out what band your area is on if that's the case?
Thanks for the update, btw.

There are only like 3 cities where the 1900 band will get HSPA+ on T-mobile.
Right tmobile is currently updating the 1900 band to hspa+. It is live in some areas like Las Vegas and parts of new york, while it is still in testing in many other areas across the country.
If you are not getting hspa+ speeds in your area I think it's safe to say it's not available in your area just yet.
This website shows areas where hspa+ has been spotted. But not officially live so they may not be available 100% of the time.

Well this makes me kind of sick to my stomach. I'll have to decide what I want to do. They are planning on rolling out LTE in 2013...so...maybe HSPA+ will be moved to 1900MHz soon. Because I'm really loving this phone and don't really want to give it back and not be able to afford the official TMo version.
Choices Choices....
I'll have to see what Tmobile will let me do as well. Guess this is the price you pay for trying to keep up >.>
T-mobile claims the 1900 mhz refarming would be completed by the end of 2012. Check airportal.de (sorry noobs can't post outside links) to see if you are near any refarmed areas then test just to see if the hspa+ radio is working on your Note 2. I get 7-11mbps DL and 2-3 mbps UL on my Note 1 when there is hspa+ coverage.
I'm waiting to for the T-mo version to launch which is what I'll probably get. I believe it will have a faster hspa+ radio at 42mbps compared to the the international version's 21mbps. And possibly future proofed with LTE.

For my international GNote 1 , I get Edge speeds in my place. Doesn't matter because I use the home wifi. The nearest H+ coverage is a mile away, which I drove to, just to test H+ and it worked and was consistent. It was in a mall with a T-mobile store in it. So I guess that factors in.
Even if the GN2 launches tomorrow, I will wait and see how it turns out with other users. No reason for Tmo not to support GN2 on its 42mbps H+..
Some claim 20-27mbps DL speeds on units that support 42mbpsH+. With that speed - it's even faster than my home wifi, I don't need to look for LTE now although future proofing is very much welcome.

Thanks for the info. The Tmo store next to my office confirmed it's in stock for tomorrow. Based on those speeds I would have no hesitation switching over from VZ since I'm off contract. I'm going to attempt to stick to my plan of waiting for Nexus 4 announcement.
Dont feel bad, im stuck with GT7000 5month from now which only got 2g onTmo but good news are Tmo keep update their 1900 spectrum like the other said. All we do now is patient ..
I did contact TMo today to find out about the GNote 2 being released tomorrow. The lady told me, at my local store, the projected price point is $699, which means I'd have to put down 299 to finance it for the 24 months >.> Not exactly looking forward to that. Then I will have to call another location to request the RMA for this international unlocked one.
I've used the Note 2 today on wi-fi all day and I have to say, I truly love this phone...hence the reason I'm willing to drop the cash on it at my local store. Though this is my first Phablet, I didn't get the Note 1, simply because I wanted to see where they went with it....I see and I'm impressed, now.
Sell your N7100. You should get at least $650 and go buy the T-Mobile version.

Not gloating or nothing but i seen the note on even wirefly.com on the 23rd and still wouldnt buy it. After all the problems i have with tmobile customer service alone, i couldnt even imagine trying to get any help i wouldnt already know from their less than even sad customer service for a phone not bought directly from them. But lucky me knew that note 2 was going to be released online an hr after midnight pacific time in the u.s, and as of today i the happiest phone owner around, lol. the reason for my response, i stopped buying cell phones from anywhere but the company whom i will have service with due to the fact it's purposely not mentioned about compatibility so you have trouble returning it, cause they give you their old, " well it was in our 1000 page agreement you need a damn lawyer to go over. I also have a phone like yours but from verizon, a droid incredible 2 with many different bands, that i use once and a while for something different on my t-mo account, but once i step out the city, i cant even open something as simple as googles homepage cause i lose the 3g signal and drop to like -2g,lol. But the closer i get to the Illinois/Wisconsin border the 3g signal damn near runs on 4g speeds, and i even swear one time while driving the h symbol popped up but changed back to 3 really quick. But when im in Milwaukee, Wisconsin i get great 3g signal. Screw 2013 and waiting, just have whatever fun you can with it now via wifi seeing there will be no world after it ends on Dec 21st, 2012, lol. Edit: had to add it kind of sucked the phone was supposed to be 299.99 on tmobile which was supposed to be the highest selling price with the others projected to sell it for 199.00. But they sure as hell where happy to use us wanting this phone against us and charging 443.00 after tax just for the phone. And thats at the lowest price they possibly had on a 2yr contract.
Ive heard with root there's a mod or setting change to access Hspa+.
Anyone heard anything.
To OP...I still have my Sprint MiFi at $35/mo w/unlimited data, then
spend $30 on TMobiles prepaid plan. Doing that for now.

I'm having the same issue
Anybody wanna buy a intl note :/

Does your m8 get good signal reception on at&t ????

I have issues getting good signal with my m8 on at&t, anyone else ? Actually I"am on straight talk which uses at&t service.
Not sure if the bad signal is just my area or if its my phone.
I can get LTE when I"am out and about, and it shows good signal, but my data speeds are not really that great for LTE being maybe 8 to 15 mbps yeah its good but should be more according to most users.
I live in Ohio and have absolutely no signal indoors and if I go out to the road I can pick up some weak edge signal which is like scraping the bottom of the barrel as far as data.
I have heard from people at a local at&t store that at&t took over the last of the alltel towers and something about July, but no one seems to be able to tell me anything about my area, and at&t maps show I"am supposed to have good service here so I dont know if its their service or my phone.
And being on straight talk its not like they will be able to help me with signal issues as you might as well be talking to yourself than call their customer service, as they cant even help you with how to set up call forwarding as they say its not listed as a feature with straight talk, pretty sad yes lol.
Does anyone work for at&t that can tell me if I will be getting alltel towers working in my area ?
In Ohio from zip 44830 Fostoria starting a few miles north going out of town on state route 199 basically all the way to state route 6 there is basically no service on my m8 as all I show is edge this is like a 10 to 15 mile stretch of nothing. Now if you turn west on state route 6 then you get a little better then a few miles you get LTE coverage.
Hoping someone from at&t can clue me in on this area because my m8 just sucks for service and I"am supposed to have good coverage here according to the at&t coverage maps.

I'm having issues on Three UK where the phone loses signal and takes a long time to find the network again leaving me with no service in between. Its being swapped out tomorrow.
You might find a more useful answer in the dedicated M8 at&t forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/help

I have a T-Mobile M8 I have unlocked on Straight Talk AT&T and voice service is fine. My problem is that where my Nexus 5 kept 4g service I only have H+ or 3g. I have a feeling it's to do with the metal body of three phone, but I could be wrong.

Clevelander here, i do have similar slow connection issues as well with at&t in downtown. they told me that there is a problem in some towers

Love my G3, hate T-Mobile

So what are my choices for other carriers? I know verizon has different radio bands... Is ATT a possibility? I'm reaching the end of my patience with TMO.

You've probably heard it before but I think Straight Talk is a great choice if you only need 3gb of high speed data. I just recently switched from TMO to ST using the ATT sim card. It works virtually flawlessly and I've had atleast 4g everywhere I've went (NW Georgia to E Kentucky so far). I got fed up with TMO when I left GA for work for the first time. It worked great in my little corner with flawless 4g LTE. However, as soon as I left and started travelling for work I got stuck with 2g service or wifi only. 2g is abysmal on TMO. It actually functions on ATT the few times I've had it.
So that's my suggestion. Paying off the phones and getting them unlocked was a fairly simple process as well.
I'll be switching to ATT service myself soon. Since T-Mobile wont' stand behind their products with my cracked phone they sold me. LG wants me to hold my phone hostage and then decide if it's actually a problem. Also annoyed by the fact that if you don't have LTE or HSPA service with TMUS, you basically have a dumb phone. And honestly, texts don't even function half the time outisde of their 3G/LTE areas.

I would never leave t mobile. Fix your issue with phone. If u pay off you still have issue on att. So fix what is bad. Lg and all the phone makers are the same. That us why you deal with t mobile for fix.

No, LTE service on the D851 ONLY works with T-Mobile, but you will get the other bands ("4G"/3G/2G) with AT&T.

I have NO issues with my G3 its T-Mobile. Their coverage is plain bad, no fixing that until they double the amount of cell towers. I looked at their coverage map before changing over and nowhere did it indicate the dead zones that we have found and TMO acknowledges. My wife has zero coverage in her office and would have to go a block or better to make a call and she works in Springfield where you would expect at least 2G everywhere but there are major dead zones. Major interstates lack complete coverage. I can understand state highways and secondary roads but interstates? T-Mobile messed my ETF reimbursement up, additionally T-Mobile "lost" my trade-in phones that they have had since first week of August....their online system sucks, I couldn't process an order and I spent almost 2 hrs working with their IT folks who finally gave up and acknowledge their portal has some issues. My Sim card faulted out and its gonna take 7-10 business days to get the replacement from T-Mobile as they wanted to charge me $25 for expedited delivery that the online chat people couldn't process as that must be charged to a credit card and not to my account WTF!!! I would have to call customer service and waste another hour of time to make that happen....screw that, I order one off of Amazon and paid for one day delivery...total cost $14 of delivery and shipping.....and I still don't have the T-Mobile free replacement Sim yet. I figure I have wasted 12hrs at least dealing with T-Mobile on problems on their side. I get alot of "we are sorry"......why asking what other carriers will my TMO G3 will 100% function on as I know it won't with verizon because of the radio bands

Personaly, I love T-mo. I switched from Verizon and am saving a boat load. I think it's absolutely wonderful how they've effectively turned every WiFi hotspot into a cell tower. In Charlotte nc, I've run into some areas where i rome but it's usually in a big building and there's always some WiFi. Their CEO has a great mindset imo and their customer service is always responsive as nice to me.

Just my two cents, I have a dead spot on Verizon near home but tmo is fine. Also I love their international approach free 2g and texting, and I'm in Europe every month. Would have cost hundreds more on vzw. So far here in north east haven't noticed coverage ant worse than the other guys but haven't travelled the midwest or south yet.
Oh, and free music streaming.

This is both correct and incorrect. You'll get a few of the LTE bands from ATT(2 and 4 to be exact). I can confirm that that's true. The most obvious indicator is that the symbols on my phone change from 4g to 4gLTE depending on if I'm covered. I can also run speed tests and see a difference. 4g I get 1-2mbps and LTE I get 7-9mbps. Not perfect but I'm not using my phone for any heavy data usage either. As long as I can browse reddit and stuff from my phone I'm good.
As for "just sticking with a carrier"... Um... NO. Absolutely not. If you're not able to make phone calls or are dependent upon finding free wifi to make a call then I don't think it's worth the money. I don't know what that guys talking about but he's obviously missed the point of this discussion.
Look into Straight Talk, Net10, or Cricket. All work on the ATT network and all will give you just as good of a price as TMO. Cricket offers 10gb of data for 55$ a month. Net10 does something similar I believe. I went with ST just because of the convenience. ST and Net10 are both owned by Tracfone so regardless of who you use it's going to be the same thing. Cricket is actually an ATT owned company. There is some literature floating around the web saying that Tracfone phones will allow you to roam on other carriers services but I'm not sure how true that is or if that even matters anymore.
I really love T-Mobile. I have had the best customer service with them. When I had my Z2s I had issues with the overheating problem and I went through 3 phones and ended up talking to their tech department. They informed me its a known issue and I could try another one. Seems great to me, just had a phone that overheated (not T-Mobiles fault).
I have told many people that reception is quite spotty. I live in Washington and service is great along the I5 corridor but once you start to stray too far off you will lose service. But in data speeds none of my friends with other carriers have come close. I routinley hit speeds of at least 35 mbps.
I can completely understand where most people do have issues. I just use my phone as a mini computer though. I probably use >200 min a month.

I hate to say it, but you live in the worst area of the country for cell service (other than the Montana mountains, where there's no coverage at all). All four carriers' networks are really thin, and even Verizon's mighty network has holes where they roam onto partner networks there. Unless you live in Chicago, coverage is pretty spotty as soon as you leave the city limits of any town, no matter what carrier you pick. All I can tell you is talk to people who have usage patterns like yours and get their opinions, because blindly switching may end up getting you the same or worse coverage depending on your location.

I had verizon for years but got tired of paying thru the nose.. No small decision to go to TMO and based on their coverage map we should have been OK.... But their map is essentially a lie. I spent an hour on phone with tmo thru 3 levels of management who understood if their map is fake and/or the tmo cell phones they sold us can't receive their signals then this situation is going to take a turn for the worse.

Hopefully G3 will get band 12, but it's OK if it's not because I have AWS repeater installed and it works fine.
I refuse to get Note 4 because it does not support Trad Chinese. I'd go for Z3 or even G4 instead.

I lived in the IA/IL corridor area for a few years and pretty much every carrier had issues. Verizon was the best in the city, but would drop to 2G in many areas outside the city, or go dead completely. AT&T was a little better from what my co-workers were saying but again they were on 2G once you left the highway corridors. This was before the LTE rollout, so things may be better, but considering that LTE is GSM, and GSM is pretty short range from the towers (vs CDMA, anyway), I would not make any big bets. You can try your luck with either; you will probably get more consistent service with both, but I would not count on them being overly fast once you are away from the cities and highways.

First off, hi from the north of you. I'm by the Kankakee area. I do have a buddy that does work at a T-mo corp store in Bradley that has been saying that the area I live and lower Illinois is getting the tower upgrades in Q1 2015. He's trying to get some more info for me since I too live a dead T-Mo area (I get no signal in my office). I maybe stopping in tomorrow if my wife wants to jump to the Note 4. If he's working, I'll ask him if he found out anything more about the IL tower upgrades. I'll let know you if he has any other news.
Edit: Decatur should have LTE coverage for T-Mo looking at sensorly.com. You should check and see about getting a LTE signal booster from T-Mo. Check out sensorly.com to even find what carrier does have the best coverage for you.
