[Q] Most Stable AOKP or CM version? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

What is the most stable version of AOKP or Cyanogen Mod that runs ICS? I tried milestone 6 and had bad call quality, along with every other AOKP or CM rom I have tried. Am I doing something wrong or is that supposed to happen? I'm a noob.

AOKP ICS Milestone 6 is as rock solid as they come. Bad call quality may have been due to having noise suppression unchecked. Hit the menu button with your dialer open to see if that's the case.

Ill try it when I get my phone back... I really depend on calls and don't consider a ROM "stable" unless it has good call quality since it is a phone.

I prefer CM over AOKP. Most versions of Cyanogenmod ICS are stable. I would even attempt the CM JellyBean (NO WHERE AS NEAR STABLE AS ICS). But i think that it is pretty stable to be an alpha release!

Try the rom I'm using its in my signature. Its ics, stable with alot of extras..

thoughts on best rom

I know this question will cause some debate but what would you say is the best rom for the galaxy nexus?
ARHD
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
What does that mean??
You didn't see a rom in the dec section that might be abbreviated ARHD? Or any of the other "what's the best rom" threads, for that matter?

How about AOKP? Try that abbreviation
Terminators run on Android
I'm using rootzboat. I'm really good.

Definitely Android Revolution HD (ARHD). I tried others but none were as sweet as ARHD.
I used android revolution but was tired of being on 4.0.2 as the developer was waiting for Google to drop 4.0.3 binaries.
And Franco's kernel was for 4.0.3 only. So I started using Aokp and I simply love it. Aokp + Franco Kernel is a amazing mix for performance and battery.
Aokp also adds new features such as power saver to help with battery and with various status bar tweaks.
Aokp +, Franco kernel.... Nothing gets any better. Also Aokp pushes updates every other day so you can expect goodies every 3-5 days.

Always use Paul O'Brien Modaco roms. They simply work and let you get on with customising your phone.

RootzBoat is by far my favorite. I like how it stay's true to AOSP and just adds little extras. Nothing too fancy and feels smooth.
I haven't installed one yet...I'm looking at Android Revolution and AOKP right now, but leaning toward the latter because I'd love to give Franco's a shot. Problem is I'm kind of thinking I should just wait for 4.0.3 to drop and go from there. I'd like to get it the day it drops, if possible.
Right now I'm just using stock rooted+unlocked with the 4.0.3 radio firmware. I'd love to install some graphical mods (mainly a status bar battery mod) but can't on Stock =(

I used arhd since getting the phone. But wanted 4.0.3. So switched to aokp. But for some reason had delays when unlocking the phone. And sometimes when typing. Tried wiping etc. No joy
So I am now using eagles blood with Franco kernal and can't fault it at all. Fb sync and the lock screen and great features.
For a perfect from I would want the power saver and UI mods of aokp. With the cm9 launcher mods. And the eb lock screen. Someone want to make it for me!

Haven't tried any others, but Axiom is great. Wait for 2.4 update for VZW services fix though.
AOKP looks cool. They have the HC quick settings menu and a slew of options. Pretty slick.
RootzBoat has a good rom too with lots of options. I just hate how they label everything RootzBoat (wallpaper, carrier id, etc). I'm also using AOSP CM9 Kangs too. They're all fun. I typically flip between them when one has a few feature that I like.
RootzBoat has a Centered clock option, notification LED color options, and a 4-way lockscreen... but no notification toggles.
I get awesome battery on my CM9 Kang. BIG difference between it and RootzBoat.
I also noticed that MIUI was updated yesterday to a pretty usable state. I haven't personally tried it, and there are some bugs still, but it should be useable now.
AOKP rocks! But I cant wait to see how CM9 develops. They have to add something special to make me leave AOKP.
Me too I've tried other 4.0.3 but to me they just don't compare to the constant smoothness of ARHD

I agree! This rom + franco's kernel waaayyy better than ARHD..... Love the quick toggles and being able to customize without having to flash or "bake" roms....
Another aokp here...it rocks!

JellyBean: AOKP vs CM10?

has anyone tried both cm10 and jb aokp previews?
it would be great to know what the main features of each rom are as of now.

Is too early at this point to say which is better or which has better features. Both are very very young projects.
Boths looks like the same features, but personally i prefer AOKP because it has the option to change the nav bar dpi (euroskank aokp), but now im using paranoid based on cm10, im not using cuz' cm10 based but the awsome PA DPI configurations.

Its depend what you really want with your GNex. Each ROM have advantage
For me stock ROM that already Custom by someone is good enough

I'm testing the same thing. I just flashed the latest aokp, now I'm on paranoid android. I much prefer the toggles in aokp (I'm in minority here I know). But aokp is not working with hide nav bar app, yet cyan and all other JB roms work fine with this. So I'm sticking with PA for now.
Aokp is missing stuff still like color multipliers etc. But they have center clock etc. Cyan is missing center clock, but has screen multipliers. Cyan also has dBm signal, but aokp does not yet. So its a tough comparison. Cyan has more features. I'm staying with paranoid just to use tablet mode for now.
Can't compare the 2 like that. Both offer different things. From my experience cm has been smoother and more fluid than aokp but aokp has a lot of customization. I'd say cm is more stable but the only person who can confirm these things is you.

CM tends to be very stable and smooth , AOKP is great if your looking to make your phone a little more unique and personal.
I've found battery life on CM better than AOKP but over-all its down to what you want. Both work well, both work different.
Try both and make a decision

Perfect Android/Black Bean/Are You Jellin what are all the differences?

Perfect Android/Black Bean/Are You Jellin
I want to flash one of these but do not really see what all the differences between them might be. If anyone can shed some light on what I would be looking at with each ROM.

Never tried Perfect Android, nor Are You Jellin, but Black Bean is basically AOKP nightly (Which I am currently using, and I recommend it btw ) with inverted apps (Backgrounds are perfectly black, which can save battery on out Gnex). Since Black Bean is basically AOKP nightly, you get all the customization that AOKP nightly brings right now, which isn't a lot compared to Milestone AOKP. I found it very stable, however there was a lot of complains about Black Bean rebooting, even with clean install...

Cm10 or aokp help deciding and what versions to flash

So I am thinking of flashing an aosp rom and I am down to cm10 or aokp. Have a few questions since I am back new to rooting and flashing:
-which is more stable? I need a reliable camera and I saw there were bugs with the camera in some versions. I want a daily driver, not a nightly with bugs.
-features and themes. I know cm10 has tons of themes in the market, is aokp the same?
-gapps : do I flash the same gapps file for both of them?
-any other bugs or advantages of one over the other?
Thanks in advance

Aokp has more features than CM10 as its just bare boned aosp. AOKP ride on cm source, so any bug in CM will be present in AOKP. Flash the same gapps....the last is preference. Both are stable, unless you flash cm10.1, which has bugs.

task650 actually pointed out AOKP is based off Google source, not CM....minor clarification
And 10.1 is actually pretty stable. Camera now works and I am using it as a daily driver now. Aokp would use an older gapps than cm10.1 as it is not built off of 4.2 yet.
I am running CM10 stable release from November and I haven't had one issue. I have the the 4.2 apps installed and I love them photosphere and the keyboard are awesome. Only one single problem if you install the 4.2 apps make sure your camera is focused all the way before taking a photo or you have to reboot your phone to use the camera app again because it locks the camera app. But who would want an out of focus picture anyway. Its funny it actually helps me take better photos. Other than that not a single problem with the ROM or apps. I have the ThyrusHolo Black theme from the Play Store installed and it looks great if you like black and holo. I very little about AOKP but I know I don't want to leave CM10 at all. But I suggest running each one for a week top get a good Ferrell for each and see which one you like better.

Best 4.1 ROM for our device?

In your own opinion what is your favourite 4.1 ROM available right now? I know this is going to be a very mixed bag thread but just for fun to see what my fellow t989ers are using

Rom All star v7 is
fantastic,awesome,perfect,amazing #1 for me...:thumbup::beer:
I'm using Official slim bean 3.1 with lightning zap kernel and I'm getting average 4 hours of screen time. My favorite rom so far!
CM10 Nightlies. I always get the most out of my battery out of it. Yet, the call quality on them kinda suck. People keep saying i'm breaking up while on a call.
Just to add I'm currently running slimstar and its pretty smooth on my end hasn't settled yet though

Depends what you are asking for. If you want performance, usually CM10. If you want battery, I'd also say CM10. For massive amounts of preferences go with PACman ROM.
Has anyone tried both cory's mod and slimstar?

I am praying for MIUI Jellybean based ROM. For now, Cory's Awesome Mod; It's a WIP but as of now ... It's minimal and is a reliable DD for me.
I'm using Corys PAC rom love it best one I've tried so far

All Star V7. Oddly enough I had to flash the rotate fix on it but otherwise great. I tend to get between 4-5hrs of screen time (tested on a plane flight from Dulles to Vienna) per battery.
Slim Bean All Star v5 the best so far...
Nighthawk's Tapatalk
Cyanogenmod 10
I am running slim-star! I really like it. new build is 26.1 ... Currently re-flashing though because it wouldn't detect my network o__o so I couldn't call anyone.
ROM from GS2USR
I flashed almost all the ROMs and the best one so far is the "[P?+Aokp+Cm] P.A.Cman True All in 1 ROM[01-03-13]" by GS2USR . Using v 19.0 currently.
Very fast/ snappy, no bloatware, has all the options you can imagine. ANd everything works great. I went to other roms for change, but kept coming back to this for smooth sail experience.
Good luck brother !
Aokp. Its virtually bug free.

Best T989 ROM Setup
Based on the advice of others who posted, I tried Slim Star v1.26, updated OTA today to v1.27. It is the best of all I tried for T989. No call echo, which was the deal breaker on a few JB roms. No WiFi issues, which I had with the latest CM10 nightlies. Here's the whole sequence of what I end up doing, after a lot of trying things
Flashed Slim Star ROM
Flash the Nexus boot anim from here
Flash Walkman.zip forget where I got that one from LOL, it was in the "Extras" or "Add-Ons" section of one of many ROMS I tried
Flashed latest ASD Kernel (probably overkill I know but I have good luck with this flash as far as eliminating Echo)
Bonus that ASD Kernel flash script does a cache wipe and dalvik wipe and reboot for me, so I do it last (3 less things I have to do in CWMR lol)
Wait 10 min (hardest part LOL)
Reboot, wait 1 min
Set up Google Acct but don't restore phone! Once I accidentally didn't uncheck Restore Phone and it won't let you go back! I had to start all over LOL
Slim Star comes with an app called Update Me, full of Awesomeness. I used the Add-ons menu in there to download a Extras.zip and it's own Slim-Gapps, reboot to Recovery and flash both of those
Today Slim Star did an OTA update of itself to 1.27, dirty flashed that, then set default keyboard to Android because I have to have gesture texting! It just never stops getting more Awesome! :good:
Also Holo Launcher that comes with Slim Star did a Play store update of itself to v2.01. Nice launcher that comes with Slim Star, I set as default, has really good solid Settings organization, never "forgets" my settings like some ROMs did, also wrap around Home screens which I missed for awhile. And it doesn't try to be Phablet, which personally for me I didn't like about some ROMs.
I then disable the following Apps that I don't use (don't know if this is a good idea or not, but it seems to work)
Apollo (I use Walkman)
Google Partner Setup
Google Play Music
Music
Picasa Uploader
Picasa Web Albums
Seeder
