Rom All star v7 is
fantastic,awesome,perfect,amazing #1 for me...:thumbup::beer:
I'm using Official slim bean 3.1 with lightning zap kernel and I'm getting average 4 hours of screen time. My favorite rom so far!
CM10 Nightlies. I always get the most out of my battery out of it. Yet, the call quality on them kinda suck. People keep saying i'm breaking up while on a call.
Just to add I'm currently running slimstar and its pretty smooth on my end hasn't settled yet though

Depends what you are asking for. If you want performance, usually CM10. If you want battery, I'd also say CM10. For massive amounts of preferences go with PACman ROM.

All Star V7. Oddly enough I had to flash the rotate fix on it but otherwise great. I tend to get between 4-5hrs of screen time (tested on a plane flight from Dulles to Vienna) per battery.
Slim Bean All Star v5 the best so far...
Nighthawk's Tapatalk
Cyanogenmod 10
I am running slim-star! I really like it. new build is 26.1 ... Currently re-flashing though because it wouldn't detect my network o__o so I couldn't call anyone.
ROM from GS2USR
I flashed almost all the ROMs and the best one so far is the "[P?+Aokp+Cm] P.A.Cman True All in 1 ROM[01-03-13]" by GS2USR . Using v 19.0 currently.
Very fast/ snappy, no bloatware, has all the options you can imagine. ANd everything works great. I went to other roms for change, but kept coming back to this for smooth sail experience.
Good luck brother !
Aokp. Its virtually bug free.

Best T989 ROM Setup
Based on the advice of others who posted, I tried Slim Star v1.26, updated OTA today to v1.27. It is the best of all I tried for T989. No call echo, which was the deal breaker on a few JB roms. No WiFi issues, which I had with the latest CM10 nightlies. Here's the whole sequence of what I end up doing, after a lot of trying things
Flashed Slim Star ROM
Flash the Nexus boot anim from here
Flash Walkman.zip forget where I got that one from LOL, it was in the "Extras" or "Add-Ons" section of one of many ROMS I tried
Flashed latest ASD Kernel (probably overkill I know but I have good luck with this flash as far as eliminating Echo)
Bonus that ASD Kernel flash script does a cache wipe and dalvik wipe and reboot for me, so I do it last (3 less things I have to do in CWMR lol)
Wait 10 min (hardest part LOL)
Reboot, wait 1 min
Set up Google Acct but don't restore phone! Once I accidentally didn't uncheck Restore Phone and it won't let you go back! I had to start all over LOL
Slim Star comes with an app called Update Me, full of Awesomeness. I used the Add-ons menu in there to download a Extras.zip and it's own Slim-Gapps, reboot to Recovery and flash both of those
Today Slim Star did an OTA update of itself to 1.27, dirty flashed that, then set default keyboard to Android because I have to have gesture texting! It just never stops getting more Awesome! :good:
Also Holo Launcher that comes with Slim Star did a Play store update of itself to v2.01. Nice launcher that comes with Slim Star, I set as default, has really good solid Settings organization, never "forgets" my settings like some ROMs did, also wrap around Home screens which I missed for awhile. And it doesn't try to be Phablet, which personally for me I didn't like about some ROMs.
I then disable the following Apps that I don't use (don't know if this is a good idea or not, but it seems to work)
Apollo (I use Walkman)
Google Partner Setup
Google Play Music
Music
Picasa Uploader
Picasa Web Albums
Seeder

I know this question will cause some debate but what would you say is the best rom for the galaxy nexus?
ARHD
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
What does that mean??
You didn't see a rom in the dec section that might be abbreviated ARHD? Or any of the other "what's the best rom" threads, for that matter?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
How about AOKP? Try that abbreviation
Terminators run on Android
I'm using rootzboat. I'm really good.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Definitely Android Revolution HD (ARHD). I tried others but none were as sweet as ARHD.
I used android revolution but was tired of being on 4.0.2 as the developer was waiting for Google to drop 4.0.3 binaries.
And Franco's kernel was for 4.0.3 only. So I started using Aokp and I simply love it. Aokp + Franco Kernel is a amazing mix for performance and battery.
Aokp also adds new features such as power saver to help with battery and with various status bar tweaks.
Aokp +, Franco kernel.... Nothing gets any better. Also Aokp pushes updates every other day so you can expect goodies every 3-5 days.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Always use Paul O'Brien Modaco roms. They simply work and let you get on with customising your phone.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
RootzBoat is by far my favorite. I like how it stay's true to AOSP and just adds little extras. Nothing too fancy and feels smooth.
I haven't installed one yet...I'm looking at Android Revolution and AOKP right now, but leaning toward the latter because I'd love to give Franco's a shot. Problem is I'm kind of thinking I should just wait for 4.0.3 to drop and go from there. I'd like to get it the day it drops, if possible.
Right now I'm just using stock rooted+unlocked with the 4.0.3 radio firmware. I'd love to install some graphical mods (mainly a status bar battery mod) but can't on Stock =(

I used arhd since getting the phone. But wanted 4.0.3. So switched to aokp. But for some reason had delays when unlocking the phone. And sometimes when typing. Tried wiping etc. No joy
So I am now using eagles blood with Franco kernal and can't fault it at all. Fb sync and the lock screen and great features.
For a perfect from I would want the power saver and UI mods of aokp. With the cm9 launcher mods. And the eb lock screen. Someone want to make it for me!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Haven't tried any others, but Axiom is great. Wait for 2.4 update for VZW services fix though.
AOKP looks cool. They have the HC quick settings menu and a slew of options. Pretty slick.
RootzBoat has a good rom too with lots of options. I just hate how they label everything RootzBoat (wallpaper, carrier id, etc). I'm also using AOSP CM9 Kangs too. They're all fun. I typically flip between them when one has a few feature that I like.
RootzBoat has a Centered clock option, notification LED color options, and a 4-way lockscreen... but no notification toggles.
I get awesome battery on my CM9 Kang. BIG difference between it and RootzBoat.
I also noticed that MIUI was updated yesterday to a pretty usable state. I haven't personally tried it, and there are some bugs still, but it should be useable now.
AOKP rocks! But I cant wait to see how CM9 develops. They have to add something special to make me leave AOKP.
Me too I've tried other 4.0.3 but to me they just don't compare to the constant smoothness of ARHD

Probably little to no differences between 4.1.1 and CM10 yet, as all of AOSP has been merged and CM9 is being finished prior to major testing of merging CM9 features into CM10.

I recommend the Blu Kuban Rom, its pretty much drama free. Use Odin to install a rooted version of ICS, then install CWM Recovery. Once that is installed slap the Blu Kuban ROM onto your SD card. Boot into recovery and install the ROM.
You will want to read some FAQs and guides if you haven't done it before.

My vote goes for stock with Apex launcher, the feature to lock the desktop is amazing for newbie android users, grouping shortcuts, customize the bottom icons, slight theming, working good so far.
I've rooted my SGS3 & am running StrongSteve's Odexed Blue, but this is my first Android phone & rooting experience. I will definately read the stickies & FAQs before I do anything. Hopefully the Epic 4G Touch isn't too different from my SGS3.

Stock, let the mother in law deal with Sprint especially if she uses her phone for business. Next thing ya know you get blamed if she misses a call or gets a late text.
Try a different launcher like apex or nova first. Lots of ppl also like go launcher, many themes

No ROM is going to fix stupidity. No offense to your in laws.
That being said blu Kuban is a good choice for customizing to her specific needs. I usually refer to it as the "build your own ROM" ROM. However she may be a little daunted by the frequent updates and large amount of options. If you do choose that ROM I would highly recommend that you familiarize yourself with the faq in my sig so you can send to any issues she may have with it. Also any ROM by team VeNuM, especially m'ICS or blue BOA would be a good choice as far as stability is concerned.

Hehe, none taken. She's not stupid, just "technologically challenged."
I can't remember where I saw the screen shot, perhaps an article on Android Authority, but I seem to recall seeing an initial setup screen shot from a GNex w/JB - shortly after Google launch party. That screen shot allowed two options, basically beginner or advanced mode. I believe I came away with the impression that was geared towards the UI too, not the setup method.
Now, I know JB ROMs are in alpha stage for the e4gt. Do you think I should wait for, what looks to be, an official JB release for the SGSII from Samsung?
Thoughts? Has anyone else seen, read, heard, or experienced this "beginner mode" on JB - or were the paint fumes at my office gettin' to me more than I thought they were that day?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
JB roms are not quite ready yet. There was some type of easy setup thing though. Honestly your best bet would probably be a simple launcher and lockscreen.
Keep it stock. Use a different launcher and remove all but one screen. Put the things she uses most on it as shortcuts, then lock it so she can't accidentally mess it up. Did that for my wife and it really helped!

I find GB more stable then most ICS ROMs. Great battery life awesome signal and great GPS locks. Most GB ROMs are complete and done with updates due to ICS coming out. Currently ICS is still being updated and has many flaws. A lot of the devs like ruj and mijjz got their stuff in order but they update a lot and may irritate your mother in law.

You can just keep stock and go dead simple with i launcher. It will obviously have no bugs (its stock). its just an iphone launcher
Does anyone truly like it? I find the extra page for toggles to be an annoyance to get to, and requires extra time. It just looks nice. The lock-screen also defeats all purpose of having a lock screen, and removes useful shortcuts (I know these can be added in through some cm or aokp builds but still). I didn't think it was possible for a new android version to really take a step back in terms of functionality but 4.2 really did. Scrolling isn't nearly as good as it was in 4.1 as well. But this is all my opinion, I'm interested to hear what you guys think. I'm looking to drop back to 4.1, and I'm hoping key lime pie gets rid of lock-screen widgets
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app

Although, I do agree somewhat with the lockscreen. When I had messages as one of the pages on the lockscreen, I wish I could just text them from there. But instead, you press it and it goes to the messaging app instead.
Agreed. With lockscreen and toggles. If I remember correctly though, pure AOSP that ships on nexus devices prior to 4.2 didn't have toggles. That's a luxury that was only afforded to root users. So really it was a step forward.
In my opinion though, they should have implemented CM's toggles and called it good.

Very light and even somewhat future proofed... How, you ask?
Well I simply didn't include apps that were in the /system or /preload tray that are easy to update on PlayStore.
So what ends up happening is our device has an old version in system/apps and a newer version is in /data using space and resources in both folders.
Gnow for instance will have two copies [one old one new] as soon as we update if its included in the system/app.
Don't include it and it goes to /data only and works like a charm.
That being said I made excellent use of these folders we have on 4.1.2 .
My kernel is included... I built it from from Samsung source for full function of our device. Of course the Rom is compatible with our 4.1.2 kernels uvmc6 found in our dev threads for our devices.

~~~Giving Thanks~~~
Giving thanks is important. It lets people know that their work or answer is appreciated. It is a faster
method of feedback than posting a reply like "Thanks for your answer!" You must have one post to
give thanks, so here is a good place you can do that: The "Say Hi" thread.
You can go do that now and come back and finish here please.
You get 8 thanks per day, and they renew after 24 hours or so. Each thanks is independent of the others,
so if you give someone a thanks at 3, and then another at 4, those will renew at 3 and 4 the next day.
If you run out of thanks, then save that page in a new tab and give thanks later when you have one available.
If you use them all every day you are doing it correctly.
Another classic rom from Rushing?! DLing now! Woot!
Nice to see another one of your ROM's
Wow, was looking for something like this. Will try soon and report back
Any screen shots? I am looking for something a bit more stable than jmt for my wife's s2! So how does it compare to jmt 6?
Loving it!
Not questioning, just asking.... What's wrong with Jedi? I've ran it several times in the past and never an issue. I only changed to go back to the AOSP feel / Vanilla. Everything Rushing has ever put out has been above par and right on task as a daily driver. I will say that he doesn't publish often, but when he does its worth taking a look at.
But like always, nandroid first and then test this out. If its not for you, no hard feelings, return to previous setup.
screen shots in OP now... I never tried jmt 6... from what i read there are lots of users. I predict this ROM to be more stable cause there is less going on, but this is still testing and not a final so we will see.
please report any problems... thanks
I will flash and report back tomorrow! It's my wife's s2 and ever since I flashed jmt 6 on her phone and she has been having small issues. And since she is not really that savvy with all this stuff she doesn't know how to fix it! I love jmt and have been using it before I went to AOSPA!
Glad you came back Rushing! The first custom ROM I flashed on my s2 was one of your ICS touchWIZ ROMs!
Pardon me. Can you make one for the telus rom? I'm looking for a lite, debloated stock ROM and this one looks and sounds good.
Thanks in advance
You could always after flashing this ROM, you flash a Telus specific kernel and radio!
That could always work, a lot of people from the sky rocket community flash ROMs from the t-mobile s2 forums they just flash their kernels and radios and it works just fine!
Bam very nice!
I'm sorry but is there a way to change the setting ui to stock color?
if not, thanks for great ROM
Rushing,
First, thank you for your hard work. I will be using this ROM as my daily driver.
I've been thinking about the UI recently and I see that you have power toggles enabled on your phone. Is is possible to create a MOD disabling the toggles and brightness bar so that power toggles takes the place of the SystemUI toggles? The reason I ask is because I think it would 1) be more visually attractive & 2) save space, the toggles and bar take up ~1/3 of the screen in the notification shade.
Also, I think it would be very efficient if the search key were remapped to recent apps.
*I know the things I mentioned potentially cause problems with stability but I think they would make good add-ons.:good:
Great room. Smooth. I have one question though. I couldn't get my Gmail calendars to show up. I downloaded Google services and even downloaded the Google version of the calendar. I checked my accounts and calendars don't show up to sync. I did a fresh install and used the wipe scrips.
