Unknown Device Driver Constantly being installed! - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys When I connect my phone to my computer it is constantly installing unknown device driver.
Ive tried all my ports. Its a hit and miss with this thing. In a blue moon it will catch and recognize it as the samsung device. But it takes litterally hours of pulling out the battery, putting it indownload mode, uninstalling the "unknown device driver" Ive tried also updating the driver manually to the "Samsung Android USB Composite device" but it doesn't recognize it when I manually update it. The cable is brand new and it cost me like 20dollars and its worked in the past. Literally 2 days ago.
Im on Windows 7. How do I get this dam computer and phone to work properly and recognize eachother and How do I get my computer to STOP installing unknown Device Driver. When it freaking has the samsung drivers installed!!!
I got the device drivers from QBkings utube video. He is using windows 7 too so everything should be working!
Im losing my patience
Any Help guys?

I had the same issue, there is a post on here about uninstalling kies then install Samsung drivers v1.4 I think then 're-install kies. Since I did this it's been fine.

I did a google search for the samsung kies that you mentioned. Found "Kies_2.5.0.12094_28_8.exe" Installed it then Uninstalled it. reinstalled samsung drivers "Samsung_Mobile_USB_Driver_V1.4.8.0" and it didn't work.
Is that the kies program you were talking about?
Kenny this data cable has worked in the past. It cost 20dollars at staples. It says its a data transfer cable. Its worked plenty of times (however ive always had this problem.

I would still try a Blackberry cable. I have seen people go through 5 cables and a new Blackberry cable solved their problem. Also is this a laptop or desktop. If desktop use the ports in the back directly on the motherboard. I have also had the best success with deleting the drivers and letting Windows find them from Windows update.

[Q] Drivers

can somebody help me. I cant get my drivers to recognize my device. Ive installed the driver i needed. Ive restarted my pc and uninstalled and reinstalled the driver.
If you using the stock cable, this may be the issue. A blackberry usb cable works great. You should also try a different usb port on the computer. What os are you running?

I got mine to work by letting Windows Update find and install the drivers. I turned on USB Debugging, conneceted the cable, clicked to connect on the phone, then went into Device Manager in the Control Panel and found Samsung Android under USB and clicked it, then said update drivers and chose from Windows Update. Took like a half hour to get them all.
On my pc I'm using windows vista. I uninstalled driver and restarded my pc and phone and plugged in an HTC cable and installed the driver and it worked. I left debug mode on during that process. Should I have turned it off. Anyways I turn phone off to go into download mode and it doesnt recognize the device. Wth! It says to update and look for update but there isnt and doesnt work. Then I unplug cable and plug cable back in after I rebooted and I get the did not recognize error.

I have been using cables from Amazon basics, no cable issues at all. They even warranty the cable for a year.
Vista is a tough os to get the drivers working just right. If u have access to a win7 or xp x86 comp, you might have better luck. I never could get my win7 x64 working but np on win7 x86. Go figure...

USB Speed

Every time I plug in my Galaxy Nexus to PC via USB, I get a message that pops up saying that my speed could be faster if I used USB 2.0 ports and it shows me which ports on my computer (3A3A, 3A3C, etc.).
Anybody know what this is and how I can repair? I've tried moving my cable to other ports on my comp (front, back, etc.) and continue to get this message. As far as I know, all of my USB ports are 2.0...
Win 7 x64
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P Motherboard
I am guessing you need to reinstall usb drivers for your pc, phone or both.

arbiter is probably right. if you have USB 2.0 ports, and unless your computer is like 10 years old, you do, then something really trashed your usb drivers.
your best bet is to search for windows 7 usb drivers, or go to a windows 7 forum and ask there if you can't find what your looking for on your own.
Any chance it's the USB drivers on my Galaxy Nexus? How would I fix/update those?

Not on your nexus. I meant drivers for your phone on windows. There are android and samsung drivers. But honestly i think you should goto device manager and see if there are any exclamation marks relating to usb interfaces. Also check the manufacturer of your pc, gigabyte and windows update and see if there are any updates to your motherboard, specifically your chipset and usb drivers.

How will I know that my speeds could be better? I can't see the transfer rate in the dialogue window when transferring via MTP.
I added a 4.5GB Movie file and it took 15 minutes. Does that sound about right? (I think that's around 5MB/sec)
I'm experiencing the same issue except it only occurs intermittently.

Had this problem as well. Fixed it by installing the usb drivers from Samsung website. The default windows 7 composite device drivers apparently incorrectly report that error. I have only usb 2.0 ports on my computer and got the error - error went away when I installed the Samsung drivers.

In my case it's on Win 7 and I've got current drivers installed as I recently rooted the phone. I only get this message with the GNex. All my other USB devices work fine with all the 2.0 ports.

GNex not recognized in Windows 7

I need help getting my Windows 7 x64 to recognize my GNex.
Whenever I plug it in I dont hear the default USB plug-in sound (Windows), but my phone is charging.
I cannot mount my storage either in recovery or inside Android.
My device manager is not showing errors and my GNex at all.
Tried installing the Google USB Driver from SDK, no luck
Tried PDANet which did not install because of missing drivers.
Use a program called usbdeview and uninstall the drivers you have installed for the Gnex. Then use the galaxy nexus toolkit to install the correct ones.
You dont by chance have the "fast charge" mod enabled through your kerenel do you? Because if so you will need to disable the feature first before plugging up to you Windows machine.
This is starting to become an "epidemic".. :O
I can almost guarantee that it's usb fast charge, devs should really put a warning on that

I too have a Win7 x64 laptop and had a similar issue, but the Device Manager did report an error with the Android 1.0 and/or Samsung driver. I had to manually update driver for it to work thru Device Manager.
Woops. Well there are some ways to check what is disturbing the connection. Let's start at the beginning:
Check if your phone is configured to interact with your computer. After conneting your phone you should get a selection list in your phones notification bar. Make sure to select usb storrage from that list.
On your windows computer go to [start] and type "device manager". After the application (that shows all hardware devices connected to the system) loaded connect your phone and check if something changes. If everything works all right you should get your nexus. If a question mark apears double click it to check the problem.
Try yo connect your device to another computer or with another cable. If the problem is not solved by above steps contact your seller.
If this is not possible install Airdroid and connect your phone to your computers browser or ES file Explorer to browse your pc over the network

Ok, I'm having this issue, but Windows doesn't even recognize anything is plugged in! I tried it on a TON of computers at work with several different USB cables. Nothing! All I get is charging, but no options in the top menu or anything. Is this a toasted Nexus? I just got it, now I can't even transfer files to its storage. I've been transferring files through dropbox...which is annoying...if it is USB Fastcharge, how do I disable it?
Their IS a fix for this, but we need the code to get into the PhoneUtil menu and turn USB back on.
It's an issue with Samsung phones apparently, and here's a fix someone found a while ago.
http://blog.vacs.fr/index.php?post/...ot-detected-problem-on-Android-Samsung-phones
We just need the PhoneUtil code for the Galaxy Nexus and we should be all set.
Check your drivers

What annoys me is that when I got the phone it was already rooted and I didn't have a chance to try it stock or back up the original. It was rooted with an older version, so I flashed 4.0.4 on it. Check out the reviews on newegg I'm not alone in reporting a messed with Galaxy Nexus.

My issue is definitely hardware. I sent my GNex back and they sent me back a new one which I received yesterday. I checked and this one wasn't previously rooted or Unlocked. It worked for a day (worked as in windows saw it and I could xfer music/books/comics to it) after I get home from work Windows stopped recognizing it. I did NOTHING to the phone, it just stopped being seen by windows. I only used the cable that came with it and charged it the night before using the supplied adapter, but the USB still stopped working. Last resort I did a system restore to the phone and the USB still doesn't show up in anything ,Tried 5 of my Windows PC's A bunch of PC's at work, my friends Mac, my Ubuntu powered Netbook, my Xbox360 and PS3, even the Transformer Prime using the keyboard dock. This is telling me it's a hardware issue with the Device. Might be somthing wrong with the latest batch of GNex's but the USB seems to give out. Even if I put the phone in ODIN mode NOTHING recognizes it. So, before you all waste your time finding a fix, this is 100% absolutly a hardware issue with these phones, I don't know why, but I had Two bad ones in a row, and am Hoping my 3rd isn't borked too.
I have a bad history with Android phones....My first Nexus One wouldn't stay on, so I got a replacement from HTC. My first two G2x's would constantly reboot, It wasn't until the 3rd one that I got a working one. Now I'm hoping I don't have to go through 4 bad Galaxy Nexus' before getting one that actually works!
I have the opposite luck with tablets....the Novo7, Iconia A100 and Transformer Prime have been perfect outa box. This ordeal with android phones makes me seriously consider exchanging the GNex for an iPhone4s....but the iPhone4s screen is SOOOOO tiny!!!

sync issues with windows xp/newest drivers/GB27

I'm having trouble getting MTD to continuously work with my windows xp sp3 system.
I'm using GB27 rooted, 3 different cables including 1 oem and 2 other ones I picked up at radio shack.
Occationally I can get it to recognize MTD mode, sometimes I have to switch to PTP mode then back to MTD.
Not sure why this is happening and if anyone else has this issue please feel free to chime in.
I'm having this issue on all my USB ports and 2 phones. so I'm not sure why it works occationally.
Thanks in advance.
This is just a shot in the dark but have you tried rebooting both the phone and computer just before hooking them together. Every now and then I will have to reboot one or the other before my computer will recognize the phone.
Also you might try uninstalling the drivers and then install them again. That worked for me once when all of a sudden my computer quit recognizing my phone.

I have the same issue. The most reliable way I find is to remove all drivers for the phone from the PC. Connect it, and just let Windows install part of the drivers. It will not install the Samsung drivers, but will connect reliably via USB. I did on thread a while back on it: linky. It's a limited solution because of the lack of Samsung drivers, there is no ADB access.
There is some issue with the Samsung drivers not have the correct hardware reference or something. I think it's tied into Kies, but I've had Kies installed and still had issue. Plus, since Google changed how the storage is organized to allow for difference user profiles, the phone does not work like normal USB thumb drive anymore. I use it to store school projects, and I have to copy and paste them from the phone to the PC and vice versa; not all files require this. Some are can be accessed while stored on the phone on the PC.
I can almost guarantee you're using Windows 8 .... and it has something to do with the driver signature stuff
