can somebody help me. I cant get my drivers to recognize my device. Ive installed the driver i needed. Ive restarted my pc and uninstalled and reinstalled the driver.
If you using the stock cable, this may be the issue. A blackberry usb cable works great. You should also try a different usb port on the computer. What os are you running?

I got mine to work by letting Windows Update find and install the drivers. I turned on USB Debugging, conneceted the cable, clicked to connect on the phone, then went into Device Manager in the Control Panel and found Samsung Android under USB and clicked it, then said update drivers and chose from Windows Update. Took like a half hour to get them all.
On my pc I'm using windows vista. I uninstalled driver and restarded my pc and phone and plugged in an HTC cable and installed the driver and it worked. I left debug mode on during that process. Should I have turned it off. Anyways I turn phone off to go into download mode and it doesnt recognize the device. Wth! It says to update and look for update but there isnt and doesnt work. Then I unplug cable and plug cable back in after I rebooted and I get the did not recognize error.

I have been using cables from Amazon basics, no cable issues at all. They even warranty the cable for a year.
Vista is a tough os to get the drivers working just right. If u have access to a win7 or xp x86 comp, you might have better luck. I never could get my win7 x64 working but np on win7 x86. Go figure...

I had a similar problem. If multiple cables do not work, I had to Odin back to stock and bam everything was fine again. This will only work if Odin can see it, which mine did but would not when the phone booted up. Hope this helps.

I had this happen to me with srf 1.2 and its doing it again now, I can't use stock cable for anything other than charging. When I connect to a computer it says the same "unrecognized device" but when I use a thicker blackberry cable everything works fine.

It's the Cable.
I have issues getting my Epic recognized as well, but don't fret.
The stock cable will still work, you just have to give it more chances to recognize.
When you install drivers, they don't always go through on every usb port your laptop/desktop have. some ports will work better, like on-board powered ports.
I assume you know your computer better than anyone else and already know which usb ports never fail you and which ones are a little iffy.
Factors aside, wether you be on xp, vista, or windows seven, or even Windows 8 beta... LOL. Open up device manager.. if your 'unknown device' (your epic) is connected, leave it that way, and go down to the usb ports section of device manager. click down on the arrows and you'll find 'unknown device' that's your epic. Right click, uninstall.
now, do the following.
If you're trying to flash/odin.. make sure your SD card is out. as you want your phone to be recognized for a modem, not a usb massive storage, but if in fact what you're going for is the ability to browse through your phone's sd card with your phone connected, then obviously leave the sd card in.Disconnect the usb cable from your pc's end. Make sure your plug is completely inside your phone's micro-usb port. Now, either try the same port again, or choose a different one, do realize that your computer will have to 'recognize' your phone and install the drivers installed on your computer for each new port you try it on. You'll eventually realize which port works best and get full recognition, just give it a little time and patience and you won't be dissapointed. Old Windows XP takes a little longer for usb recognition than windows vista or snappy windows seven. Cheers and i hope i was of any help to you or anyone else browsing around. =]
I plugged my phone into my computer today, and noticed that my USB debugging didn't come up on my phone. I'm not sure what happened, I can't figure it out. My computer doesn't recognize my phone and my phone doesn't start running USB debugging. Its checked on my phone but maybe my drivers are screwed up somehow. Anyone got any tips?

usb connection to computer
What is it that you are trying to do? If all you want is to see the phone from windows and transfer files, you want debugging off. USB debugging is for using adb commands, or tools that use them, like for rooting.
If you are sure that it is not software problem with your PC (it worked some time ago, you didn't change anything, etc.), than try to clean USB port with soft tooth brush. The USB can have some problems due to oxidation.
I'm trying to go from AOKP 31 to something newer. But my computer used to show me my phone but now it doesn't do anything.

Well I was going to root my girlfriends phone today, but I cant. Now before you tell me to use a search button, listen.
I tried looking. I've tried every solution I found. Here's what's going on.
I downloaded kies, then connected phone, phone started charging but no detection on windows. I tried a different cable, still nothing.. Uninstalled kies, restarted phone and computer, reinstalled kies and hooked the phone back up. Same deal, charge only but no detection on windows
So I tried another computer, different cable again. Same problem. Charge only, but no detection on windows. I looked at the charging port, no bent, discolored pins. It will charge on an ac charger as well. I have tried everything I know, it won't even detect Odin mode.
Any suggestions?

When I plug in my Galaxy S3 with Android 4.3 into a USB port, nothing happens whatsoever. My PC doesnt detect anything at all... yet the USB ports are working. It is using Windows 8.1
Yet when I plug it into my netbook with Windows 7, everything works fine. The phone is detected and everything.
What could be causing this? MTP? How do I fix the issue?
Works fine on my 8.1. Did you try reinstalling kies.

I tried, nothing happens. =(
I am having a very similar issue, though I am using a Sprint SPH-L710.
My PC seems to detect the device sporadically. It will, rarely, show in Device Manager, in 'This PC'->'Devices and drives', adb devices, and on Kies 3 for a second, and then disappear again. Never long enough for any file transfer, and most of the time not at all.
I have tried updating all ADB, USB and chipset drivers, I have factory reset my phone, turned off the Windows 8.1 power management options that can disable a USB port, reinstalled Kies, and more, but no luck.
I hope I posted this in the right subsection.
I used to be able to connect my s3 to my computer just fine. Now When I try to connect it, it randomly connects and then disconnects after a few seconds going back and forth like that. My computer doesn't have enough time to install the drivers for it since it disconnects on its own like that.
This is not my computers problem since it wont connect to my other computers. I even tried reinstalling the os on my pc for new set of drivers, but no luck.
Im sure it has something to do with my phone. My phone is rooted, so if any fixes include being rooted, Im good with that.
I tried changing from mtp to ptp connections, removing the battery, trying different usb ports and cables.Tried with usb debugging on and off too.
Im at my wits end here. please help!
Your usb port may be going bad. Check the port for any built up lint or other crap. Also check the pins, make sure they are all there and straight.
I tried another USB cable and it worked
