placed order on Tuesday, the guy said would be released thursday so should get friday, today he emailed to say there was a delay and he`ll let me know when i will receive... are they just loading there bloat ware on it?
a number of places in UK has the device and is selling, why are the service providers like t-mob, orange etc struggling?
Got unbranded on t-mobile from mobiles.co.uk for 31/month. Delivered next day. There are other third parties doing the same. You could just cancel and do that?

T-Mobile staff don't seem to know much. Was told 11th and 15th as release dates, was given incorrect specs. ..just gonna wait and see
Did you order the LTE version and what colour? Also, what deal did you manage to get from them?
I was under the impression that they'll be released on the 15th of this month
I got a deal of £31 per mth, £40 for handset, 300 mins x network, unlimited calls to t-mob, 1.5gb download, 3gb bt openzone wifi. 24 mths.
prob not best deal, easpecially on mins and txts, but to be honest i dont use much, i just want the latest phones.
I would imagine (hope) that t-mob would only sell the LTE version as they are the ones pioneering 4G? will keep an eye out though, if can get a better deal will do so.. (limited to networks i can use as 02 doesnt work where i live and am waiting on a three sim to try there network.)

I have 2 lines one of which is always with unltd calls so something like this would suit me just fine for the 2nd line. As i said i was under the impression that they'll be releasing this phone on the 15th...I just had another look on their website and the deal you got isn't mentioned BUT the only version they have IS the LTE one. So if or when you do get it, update us please? I think a lot of people like me are holding off on this phone waiting for the LTE 4G ready version.

Its peculiar they released a non lte version in the UK. Arguably it's cheap and not in the interest of the customer, the main focus of any good supplier. That's something Apple and Samsung have in common - the smell of their own farts in their nostrils. The latter at least makes phones rather than toys.
Some might argue they don't mind having no lte chip but it's a stretch to say they're better off and it's Samsung's fault. They might release new models every 6 months but in your mind how long should a £500+ phone function as an admirable device? If lte was brand new then it would be excusable but its been obvious for a while what a future proof device for the UK would need although only recently was it known roughly when. If they do release a sim free version of the 7105 (they better do) AND it has all the UK present(nearly) and future bands of lte but they price it at £700 then their behaviour is acceptable but their prices criminal.
This my opinion, and it leads me into your camp. Maybe I'm just jealous my desires don't allow me to be the first to own this device like the hundreds of happy customers on here. Samsung are training me to be a patient and sensible consumer, not a good idea.

I agree and would add that not releasing a 32 or 64gb version is just a ploy to make more money later on. Forcing people on to the 16gb NON-LTE version is just a dirty business tactic. And before anyone says 'oh but they probably couldn't have them ready in time' Lets not forget that Samsung are one of the biggest memory manufacturers in the world (if not the biggest?). So would have been a piece of cake to swap out the internal memory.
And about being jealous lol. I was dead set on getting the S3 when that was released but waited for my upgrade to be due. Then i heard rumours of this beast and decided to wait. I watched the presentation live and thought THIS is my next phone. I recently tried it out in the shops and it's....BIG....in a good way? i think lol. Reading people's views on here i think i'll get used to it...Now do i wait for the LTE version of this, get the LTE version of the S3 or wait a month more for the Nexus phones to be released? Argh I hate having to make this decision.
We share the dilemma, except I've written off the s3 my missus has one and although very good its just an inferior note 2 with screen size a preference consideration.
I'll be getting the note 2, either lte or not, depending on the price differential (£518 the cheapest so far). I know the new nexus will probably be excellent but I don't have to let that serve to make this device look worse.
I'm disappointing with Samsung, I'll say again they've lost customer focus at the crucial marketing and sales level. Its all about profit and market share. They should treat their customers less like Apple does, as mindless sheep who'll believe, and do, anything to be told their sexy. And more like children who need protecting from their ignorance. That's not an insult or even pessimism, it's a rationalisation of the fact mobile phone hardware is a boring subject to most people. If they released both models at the same time and it was made clear then fine. But giving one choice caused confusion, its not like called it:

+1 to that ^^^ I think the technique is designed to spread sales and I will not buy until at least the 32GB is available - 16GB is just too small considering you can't install apps (easily) on the external SD. However, sammy is sure to loose "some" customers if they leave it too long as newer phones are released and, if they leave it a really long time, the rumours of the SGNIII start to build tempting others (including myself) to wait for that and/or another "super phone". Still, it's only 2 weeks so far since release, give them a chance, but if we get to 4-6 months for decent internal SD size I might have found an alternative device (you never know, as this is a new "hot" format). Personally I reckon they'd have been better off releasing all sizes at launch - I'd have jumped straight onto the (likely much more expensive) 64GB but now if the 32GB comes out before the 64GB I'll get that (likely at a lower price) and will not upgrade to a 64GB when that is released - so they will loose money from me. They "may" of course drop the price of the 16GB when the higher sizes are released but, based on the SGIII, I think that is unlikely.
LTE doesn't really bother me that much, 4G will be a couple of years before it is common place (and I live way out in the countryside 3G is pretty poor here still!) - I'll be upgrading by then and, for some reason, I never sell my old phones - usually de-sim them and give them to the kids as games machines
Waiting impatiently...........
Lol I've got all my old phones too (except a few stolen ones) even though I always keep em pristine for resale value.
Haha
The lack of storage sizes is foolishly annoying, I understand it for the s3 the majority of people who bought one wouldn't give it a second thought. But the note 2 is a different market, with much more media entertainment focused purposes.
As you say its early days and its my own impatience that has me frustrated.
Talking about alternatives, I like the look of padphone 2.

Im literally on hold with tmobile now, going to enquire about the Note II LTE.
Im not too fussed if it is 16GB as it has the SD card capability right??
Waiting still
I've got one more month. Hopefully next year some time this phones contract price will reduce a bit. If I upgrade it will still be £30 on T mobile. Managed to get my last phone on £17 / month for 2 years (yeah right)! I took off the answer phone service which knocked off £5 / month from the the original price. Considering that at the time I was charged for calling the answer phone as well as a fiver a month I thought no thanks so saved quite a bit. Then came the 20% VAT hike and Tmobile upping the price of the contract to compensate. So I now pay a little over £21 per month.
I might have to get one a little later than I expected to.
Yep called them too. The usual clueless replies. 15th is all they know as the release date. ..they think.
I'll wait until CPW get them. Their prices can be better and their customer service strong.

Where are you based in the world?
i went into a cpw in essex and they had them in stock and ready to ship - that was probably 2+ weeks ago. i had a look at the phone (which wwasnt on / battery want in it) he could do it on orange, t-mob and one other, poss 02 but not sure..
only reason i was waiting on t-mobile direct is i have a ok offer to stay with them.
though a quick look onlien shows some web only comanies offering the note 2 for £32 per mth - 300 mins, 1.5gig data with t-mob.
+£50 cash back) just a bit weary of using online companies, as can imagine if there was a problem t-mob would say go to the web company, and web company would say talk to t-mob..
are the ones on mobiles.co.uk etc not LTE? is the difference between LTE and non LTE only 4g? as i live in the middle of nowhere LTE will not affect me so might as well get a non LTE, though i feel it should be cheaper then the LTE version...
Went into tmob shop in UK today - none on display - so I asked about it - the sales person looked at me blankly and said "we only have the note I" so I tried another one, who THB wasn't interested in speaking to me at all, "nah, not heard anything about the note II release yet, it's not out" I directed him to the 3 store opposite with a SGNII sitting in the window - "oh, yeah, we'll we will be getting it, just not sure when" I gave up at that point. 3 were very helpful and, spent a lot of time going through things with me and it turns out, for a mere £69 I get a SNGII 16GB (3G) for £36 per month with unlimited Internet and unlimited tethering included (plus pretty much infinite call time and texts - more than I would use anyway). 4G - honestly they said wont realistically be working everywhere for at least a year, probably longer but they will be getting the SGNII on 4G when they feel 4G is reliable enough. Oh and the sales rep thought that 3 had no plans to tie the handset to the network.
TBH at 3s deal I'd be saving £15 a month from my current contracts - only shame is..............no 32/64GB yet! - no store I visited had any news on 32/64GB one and all only stocked the 16GB SGNI version too. I might have to give in and get 16GB and root.
Tmobs current price plan is for 3G even for the LTE model and info sheets in store said there will be an upgrade charge to 4G and a new contract will have to be signed.
When will these stores realise customer service is important - I'd have gone with tmob because their coverage is better even tho they are slightly more expensive but not now!
Re-looked at ip5 - !!! Why did I ever even consider it - it was funny, the ip5 stands in all shops were deserted, the Sony and Samsung ones were packed - how things change lol
t-mobile do seem like utter rubbish - when you consider o2 has priority moments, orange has things like orange wednesdays and on panther you can watch stuff like sport and tv etc without using your data allowance. Three does the completely unlimited thing, vodafone has yoda as a mascot - what does t-mobile offer?
i got an email today saying finally has it in stock. plan was changed slightly - £27 per mth, but £80 for handset, i couldnt be bothered to argue or search - i wouldnt get a better mthly plan elsewhere (600 mins, 500 txts, 1.5gb data)
plus if i delayed any longer a new handset would arrive that i would want instead i.e. the padfone 2..?
so i should get my LTE SGN2 on monday, if the delivery drive can find my work place..

Hi all,
I keep looking at UK mobile operator websites and they have sections that say Upgrade to the IPhone 4s and so on which leads me to believe they are under contract to heavily push the IPhone above all else as if its better.
I also then noticed on the Vodafone site that the Lumia is on coming soon.
I believe that the Nexus is being held back till after both these launches and I believe that this is due to the operators being pushed by Apple and Microsoft. It seems sad that that Google either feels it doesn't need to do anything about this or is so complacent to think that marketing won't beat technical superiority. Betamax vs VHS proves this not to be true.
Anybody else noticed this or am I a conspiracy theorist of one
Cheers

Making a ton of cash off the iPhone isn't a conspiracy--it's business.

Maybe conspiracy is strong
But it seems to me that ICS seems to be put to the back of the queue.
There are more android phones than Iphone sales so I am not sure its business in that sense.
I would suggest they are being lent on in a way that google isnt doing.
You are prob right its business at the root of the cause but is it me or has anyone else experienced it.
The conspiracy theory makes sense but it could be any other reason. I think there is definitely something delaying things. Maybe last minute tweaks by Google.
In the UK it is coming out on O2. I'm not sure if O2 will put their crap on it or if they'll give us the stock Android.
I think it is a few last-minute tweaks. Like the launch of the Nexus S last year, there are always some tweaks and logistics to work out prior to launch. Also remember that the engineers seemed rather annoyed with the face unlock's refusal to cooperate during the announcement presentation, among other little things. These might be those teaks we are waiting on...
it's not just iphone 4s. it's also the droid bionic, razr, and for at&t, sgs2. they just released these well-equipped phones, but won't get a chance to sell them once the galaxy nexus comes out.
it's nothing more than carriers pushing sales for products they already have on the shelves today.
The other thing that might be note worthy is just like most apple fanboys, in or out of contract they'll buy it... Close to a big phone release tmobile always offers some of their best smart phones for better discounts to new customers/upgrades I think. In my opinion this is so they can get the people at launch of the much better phone to pay full price /shrugs that's what I've noticed at least.

Precisely why Verizon hasn't said much about the Galaxy Nexus in the US. They want to get as many iPhone sales as possible right now, there's nothing that can compare at the moment. I will most likely be leave VZW for an unlocked GSM version anyway.

Who do you think benefits from customers paying full price for their phones? The providers, like T-mobile and VZW? I always thought that all they cared about was getting you to sign a new 2yr contract... because I don't think they get a cut of an unsubsidized phone sale. I could be wrong though...
they just want people to buy the locked down crap so they come back later and pay full price for a nexus

I'm sure they get percent either way but if they've screwed you into contract with a lesser phone and can have you coming back for another phone in a month off contract they're doing pretty well for themselves. Especially with the people that sell their phones back to the dealer for half street value... Ouch

If they don't get a cut of an unsubsidized phone sale, then that means they don't get to pay less for a subsidized phone sale either, so either way the carrier is paying out of pocket for a phone subsidy.
Think about it this way, the phone manufacturer doesn't care whether you buy the phone from your carrier subsidized or unsubsidized, that means the manufacturer will charge the carrier the same price either way. So the difference between what the carrier makes from a subsidized phone sale and a unsubsidized phone sale is exactly the difference between the prices it charges you, regardless of how much of a cut they get from the phone sale.
This is, of course, ignoring more complicated revenue sharing and carrier branding schemes that might exist between a carrier and a manufacturer.
Shops and operators can be bought with money.
If you own a shop, and Microsoft/Nokia comes around to offer you the largest cash in return to putting Lumia at the shop front, and placing GNex waaaaay at the back next to the dust bin, course you'd take the money.

I partally agree but would google/samsung allow it and if so then they are properly cheap.
Also has this business thing happened or is it due to real world problems.
It looks fishy that the biggest android thing for a while seems to be getting buried and a spit
*Lumia* wash mouth out is on 'coming soon' on Vodafone but no GalaxyNexus.
Also would the operator potentially alienate their customers ? Are Android customers just wimps???
The reason for GN pushback is cause Sammy introducing Galaxy Note first (logistics reasons)
Or....they are releasing other phones with older android versions first to give them a small chance to sell before becoming near instantly obsoleted and sell tragically low amounts. That doesn't sound too unreasonable.
Steve Jobs, may he rest in peace, swore to destroy Android wich he hated more than anything, and adding to that the fact GN is a samsung, i'd not be suprised if Apple is paying alot of money to keep the media hype down. Just my little conspirecy theory

Hey guys,
I currently use a Nexus One, however I'm looking to upgrade. The n1 is getting to the point where I'm running out of internal space and I'm disappointed there are no more software updates on it.
I'm really yearning for a HTC One S, but there is a caveat. I am on an older T-Mobile EM+ plan so I do not get a subsidy on my phones and I'm uncertain I want to migrate to a new classic plan. Because of this, I feel like the One S will end up being too expensive. I'm assuming T-Mobile will price it at a minimum of 599 like the current Amaze and SII. Further after the 6% sales tax, I might regret spending 635 dollars on the phone.
The thought of a Galaxy Nexus has crossed my mind, but I figured if I was spending $450 on a phone I should be buying one that is HSPA+ 42, which the galaxy nexus is not. However, vanilla ICS is a big plus in my book.
So then comes the T-989. I found one on Craigslist for 400. It includes a one month old phone, extra battery, 16gb class 2 microsd, charging stand and a body glove case. It seems like the value is there. Furthermore, after contacting the person, they end up going to my university so I have a good feeling about the transaction trust wise. I'm going to check out the phone today.
I'm wondering, is this the phone for me? Am I silly and should wait for the S3, or go for the GN or One S instead? Will I be happy with the SII, especially because it will end up being cheaper than all my other options.
Thanks for the insight,
Mike
well there's one thing you can try to do... Tmobile recently altered their terms and condition where data roaming is no longer free. so if you ever used data roaming, you could fight it and get an early termination without ETF and sign up with them again using a different account holder of course. You can legally try to fight it without ever use data roaming because it is a breach in contract... but it is a lot harder to do... you can check out SD, they have a whole giant thread on it.
okay about the phones
1. i would not wait for any HTC phones because their recent releases have been disappointing.. I have used or played with every HTC phone for t-mobile... and they have fallen since the mt4gs.
sooo i wouldn't hold my breath for any htc phones yet.. maybe after some great reviews from xda members..
2. when the s3 is released, it is going to be very expensive... you're talking about not wanting to spend 635 or not even 450 so I would rule the s3 out of your budget.
3. you can't really go wrong with the galaxy nexus or the tmobile t989.. besides we just got ICS.. well still in the works lol
4. ASK yourself.. is there really a need to upgrade from the n1?
yes our phone is everything better than the n1.. but in terms of usability... do you really need to fish out $400+ for a phone you're already questioning about dropping money on. You can do anything on the n1 that you can on the gs2, don't fall for the hype that our phone has because of all the commercials and stuff.
alternatives:
1. why don't you exchange your phone or any cheap "smartphone" (bb, old iphone, etc) with the microsoft store promo, it's free... you should check that out. although they're WP phones... it would be nice to be rocking the htc radar, titan, or samsung focus by trading a crappy phone.
2. Are you out of contract? since you're on the EM+ plan... you can get a lot of deals by extending your contract another 2 years. If so, I can give you few pointers.
---------- Post added at 04:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:45 AM ----------
holy ****, just noticed this is your first post after 1.5 years lol
Thanks for the reply Teo032!
1,2 & 3 - Thank you for the advice. It is very assuring to hear such things.
4 - This is the hardest question to answer. I don't need to upgrade. However, I have the phone bug itch. I want a new phone. You do raise a good point though, the actual functionality won't differ too much.
A1 - I did not know about that challenge! I would definitely do that if I could. A new WP for free is exactly what I need to fix my itch for a new phone. I live in eastern PA. The closest MS Store would be Bridgewater Commons, which is about an hour away. Unfortunately, that store is still stated as "coming soon" and the promotion ends March 29, 2012. Hopefully they extend it once that location opens, since that would have been worth the drive...
A2 - For a contract extension, I'm a little hesitant since I am moving in about 1 yr and don't want to be locked into a 2 yr contract. Although I would probably have no coverage issues, I would not be too happy if I had poor reception at my new place but it wasn't bad enough for t-mobile to allow me to leave w/o an ETF.
Again thanks for the insight. You brought up some really great points. At this point I really don't know if I can answer that I need to upgrade and I think that might be my answer to whether I should buy the SII or not. I'm really disappointed the Bridgewater MS store isn't open yet, since I would have had made that drive today...
P.S. - Yes! My OP was my first post. After years of lurking, I finally made the leap. If I purchase a new phone today or not, I hope to continue contributing to the community through posting.
Why don't you check the coverage at where you're moving? If anything, use wifi calling.
If you're eligible for an upgrade, you won't get "discounted" phones since you're on em+... but if you talk to the retention department, simply ask them, what is the best deal they can give you if you plan to sign up for another 2 years. Each rep will give you different offers, you can call multiple times to try to get better offers. some will match a previous offer or even best it.
Common offers
$250 credit (this is actually the "discount" for the phones, although you would still be paying the full price for the phone but $350 isn't too bad for a new phone)
or $10 off each month for your contract ($240)
Your rate might even be better depending on what you need. My 5 line is actually paying about $20 less with a better plan now, which is NOT available to new contracts, only loyalty plans.
I called about 4 different reps. I made sure I told them to let me think about the deal and to call me back at certain times.
One guy was able to give me $200 credit + $10 off each month.. they're not suppose to do this, it's usually only one choice... but this guy sounded like a supervisor and hooked me up with a lot of stuff. I asked him to call me back, hoping to get $250 + $10/month from another rep.
next rep told me that it is impossible to apply both deals etc etc, And i was like are you sure? he told me yeah because the system only allows us to apply one discount and what the other guy told me was misinformation. He told me I only could get one or the other... The other guy called me back and I told him, I talked to another rep about the situation, and he simply told me, well lets just say I can do more things than any other rep can.
So my rate for 5 lines, unlimited talk text and 5 gb for 3 lines, 2 with premium insurance (7.99 each) is $155 without the tax and fees + 200 credit.
well unlimited for the 2 primary lines, and 500 minutes EACH for the remaining 3, which is still a lot.
EDIT: oh and after a year.. the ETF should be about what? $100? $150?
another tip: in my area, the skyrocket goes for less than the hercules. about $50 less, so I would look into that if you're planning to just CL
throw MIUI on the N1 and hang on to it for a bit longer. will feel like a newer phone.
otherwise yea what he said. S2 is still a great phone and will be for quite some time. best phone i've ever owned and I also love my N1
U not silly, I just bought my sII for 29.99 plus tax on Feb. 17...
Or is it just me?
Now don't get me wrong, as I've been waiting for a decent upgrade option since my trusty HD2 and would love the phone on the release date because my HD2 is very close to dying and my stupid new workplace haven't sorted me out with a phone despite me being there for nearly 2 months now (a massive and very well-known global IT company, believe it or not!).
But when I called Vodafone, my current network (yes, that's right "network", not "carrier" - I'm not American!) to try to get the phone on a cheaper deal (read "free" for £30 a month for 18 months), they said they couldn't be flexible on any of the tariffs on pre-orders. So I have the wait. I don't mind, but what really winds me up is the angst in this forum: "oh no, mine won't be delivered til 11th April!" Yes? And?
Well if you pre ordered a phone which costs about 800 pound in total on an average contract and the release day is the 5th and some are delievering then, and others on the 11th. I can see their point.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
I think if the phone had already been released and you had to wait 6 days for it then they might have a point. For pre-orders, not so much as HTC have, as far as I'm aware, never specified a release date.
I take it you're one of those who has to wait?

But when I called Vodafone, my current network (yes, that's right "network", not "carrier" - I'm not American!) to try to get the phone on a cheaper deal (read "free" for £30 a month for 18 months), they said they couldn't be flexible on any of the tariffs on pre-orders. So I have the wait. I don't mind, but what really winds me up is the angst in this forum: "oh no, mine won't be delivered til 11th April!" Yes? And?

Yes they can, but you need to speak to retentions and not upgrades
Just do what I do and go through phones4u or similar 3rd party company for your upgrade. Orange, who I've been with for 6 years will not budge on upgrades for me, despite me being on their highest banding, so I upgrade thru phones4u now who will sell you the contract and (usually unlocked and unbranded phone) for a lot less than the stupidly strict network providers. I got the One X on an 18 month contract, 600 minutes, 3000 texts and 750mb internet for only 28.50 a month and they have thrown in the medialink for free too. Give them a try

same problem... whats really bugs me is that I don't know when or how much will it be when it hits the markets in my country
I`ll be a month behind everyone....due an upgrade on May 6th.At least by then the devs should be in full swing
tough question, simple answer.. will get my hands on it, if I get it a bit lower than the MRP, however can't wait 6 months for the price to come down, then something newer will come and I won't be ever able to buy a phone in this cycle.
Btw, I will also upgrade from HD2,
I will be one week behind than everyone else since im getting paid next week i can't wait any longer..i will be making a black&cyan theme for sense 4.0 when i get it
Well the One X should be out by mid-april in my country, but I will wait till second week of May because it's my birthday and because htc phone prices usually decrease about 100-150$ after 3 weeks
I'm waiting for t mobile UK to start displaying contracts so think it will be a couple of days after release before I take the plunge, but as my contract is up on the 31st I should be in a decent position to keep my current contract sign up for another 18 months and get the phone for free

This One is going to be a worthy replacement for my HD2!
im counting the days....
If you pre-order you get the Media Link Box for free and the plan I've pre-ordered on makes it a steal. 12 Month contract with Vodafone with HTC One X black, HTC Media Link, 300mins, 500mb, unlimited texts total cost £542. Sure as hell beats paying £490 outright from Amazon which was what I was going to do!
Sadly Voda/Orange/O2 were out of the question for me as unlimited data is a necessity.
I was severely hamstrung with 500mb of data on my Dz on Vodafone, and since moving to three two weeks ago I've downloaded over 2gb data.
In terms of pre-ordering, the trick is to get your employer to pay for your phone, then it doesnt matter how much the contract costs
My upgrade date is April 15th, so I've got to wait until release!

I haven't paid for a phone for about 10 years and I've had about 10 in that time!
Unfortunately, the One X isn't likely to be one of the phones on the list of devices my employer will issue. I asked for an HTC and they offered me a Wildfire S or a Desire S!! I declined and they've given me an SGS2 instead. Fortunately, they will allow me to get my own device and stick their sim in it
i'm probably waiting until 4/25, but only so i don't spend all of my money. i want so many records i've just bought around 30, so that cost a big chunk. i will manage a few weeks without a phone. i put my ATT account on vacation. they said it would cost $10 for the time it was suspended, then resume normal billing when i call to have it restored. i didn't say it was because i sold my GS2, though. i said i was going out of the country.
Anyone ever have just... an Incredibly (no pun intended) bad time with hardware?
Here I am on my 4th device in 13 months.
It started when I allowed a best buy mobile rep talk me into the moto x2.
Phone #1 had a bum USB dock that wouldn't transfer data.
X2 numero dos had a proclivity to stutter all the time...root fixed that but then the headphone jack comes loose and all is broken.
X2 #3 same as #2 for headphone jack issues.
I fought long and hard and vzw offered me a slew of 4g devices which I chose a droid charge from.
But oops, cannot change a 3g device for a 4g device on warranty so now I get to choose from a myriad of garbage moto phones (wow a droid 3 or original x!) Or an incredible 2.
Now here I am with an incredible 2.
This came after I was offered and early upgrade over Christmas which I said no to, because I was five months invested in my current phone, why should I spend another $200 five months in??
Instead I called retentions and complained loudly and I got a pre owned incredible 2.
This phone has been an absolute dream. Even stock it is faster than than the x2s dual core CPU.
But getting this device in January I was warned that I am still in the moto x2 warranty period ending July 5th.
July 6th my phone started overheating and my screen will not light up with any images, just a dull black which I can still unlock answer etc.
Yeah. Freaking July 6th.
Now it happens just having it in my pocket.when it cools down all is good again...
As a last resort today being out of warranty anyhow I took the phone apart entirely, I took the motherboard assembly off and used compressed air to blow as much as I could behind the heat sync but this is just a broken phone I suppose because after reassembly it still isn't working.
So..long story longer, I went to a corporate store and they tell me I have two options, pay $500+ for a new device or get a second line and change to share everything for $50 more per month...
Or call 611.. which I do.
They tell me that I can pay $500+ or add a line (it'd be an extra $600/year I remind him) and he says sorry.
He can offer me an early upgrade that I'm asking for in March.
I said to him gee thanks, you are not really helping me, the website tells me exactly the same thing. Derrrrr. Dumb.
Basically, i was offered an early upgrade in December by a lackwitted tier 2 tech support agent and now because I didn't have $200 for a phone I knew would be severely updated I am being shaken down for a new handset.
I'm pretty upset to be honest, as I spend over $130/month with these guys and they just won't work with me.
So the conversation ends with me saying that since att has their own 4g where I live and that makes them an option for me, let's do math:
See, previously Verizon was the only service here that worked well. now I hear that att 4g covers here quite well...
$230 to cancel Verizon early
$200 for a brand new phone on att
------
$430
Vs the $569.00 for a galaxy nexus I wanted to get for $99 early upgrade.
Actually less after I get $50-$100 for spare parts on eBay for this incredible 2...
Assinine and no way to do business at all.

So I bought this on August 7th and have had no issues with it. I plan to use it until its dead (2 or 3 more years). I love my dinc 2.
I don't see a good reason to upgrade, even if I could. The newer phones are just faster, and have better displays, NTM the short battery life and that they break in 6 months.

Welcome to Verizon my friend, I had to literally swear at a Verizon rep to replace my 3rd Droid X2 with the Inc2 and this was after they said they didn't have any available and I called them out because they had started a promo on their website THAT SAME DAY for inc2's. I swear they train their employees to not help customers at all.
Thanks so much for the replies guys.
honestly I love the phone...I wanted a galaxy nexus, and am offering to start my co tract over again on their new terms where it isn't unlimited.
These people should be happy that they get me on another two years of my life and now get to charge me more money for service.
You all would love how I ended the call;
(After pointing out they encouraged me to cancel vs helping me)
" Well I honestly hope that for quality reasons this call was recorded and you made notes so tomorrow when I call back they can know exactly why I'm cancelling service. Thanks for having me be a part of Verizon wireless and have a great day!"

The x2 had major memory management issues for all of the 2.2 releases. It would not stream music, or play any music for that matter without skips, crackles, hiccups and pops.
The tegra 2 had NOTHING to do with it, aside from some pretty looking games (that always get ported to other devices) it would not use the second core anyhow as android 2.2 and 2.3 as far as i know do not use multi core cpus efficiently.
the hardware issues killed me. The headphone jack coming unsoldered TWICE is a poor build quality.
I've no idea if Google intends to put their name on a product that Moto makes after purchasing the mobility department but they should think twice because the ONLY phone i have read good reviews on is the Aria HD and thats one phone out of what... four years worth of handsets?

My problem is that I live in a largely rural area, but a town of around 20,000 that is covered by whatever Reno has.
If reno NV has LTE, we have it. If they have 3g, we have it.
But in lake tahoe you cannot build a new cellular tower due to environmental concerns, therefore you work with what you have.
Verizon has a great deal with the casinos in the area and therefore has coverage EVERYWHERE.
Like i said, i was TOLD that att and their LTE is much better than their 3g was, but i know for a fact people around here on ATT hate it.
Tmobile is a joke and works only on main drags of streets, and sprint is about as bad as Tmobile.
So as all the new networks come online they cannot build new towers here, just work with what they got. The broader spectrum of LTE seems to help the signal for ATT, and the coverage VZW has due to being the first provider gives them the best network over all.
Sucks... but yea.
Had 4 Droid x2s before my incredible2. Music always popped and phone would reboot randomly all the time. So glad I pushed Verizon until they gave me this phone. The problems it has are very little when compared to x2.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
Yea the X2 had amazing potential but in the end it failed, locked boot loader, couldn't play music for sh*t, the 2nd core wasn't utilized very well, low graphic memory, etc, etc
That sucks man. I would look more into ATT if I were you. If it seems like the people you know have just as bad of experiences with them then i would just keep calling VZW until they offer you something better. I usually use a line like "I've been dealing with this issue for x amount of time and nobody that I have spoken with has even acknowledged the problems that I have already gone through! What can you do to make me feel like I should stay with your company?" Don't waste your breath on the regular care reps, the can't do much for you. Talk to loyalty/retentions. That line got me $400 worth of free products and movie channels when dish network lost amc and has worked on many other occasions. Shift the focus to all of the problems you have had with your phones and the fact that you don't feel like a valued customer instead of focussing just on the phone you have now.
Best of luck man. I hope this helps!

I don't think you have bad luck...I have replaced quite a few devices myself and never abuse them.
I do buy the insurance though thru vzw because I live in Vegas. It gets hot here and puts stress on the phones. I also change my synthetic oil every 5k instead of 8k because of the weather.
The good news is that if you want to stay on vzw you can buy on Craigslist to save a bit of money. Eventually when I feel there is a more solid phone I will do this (the latest phone has never been important to me)
Verizon has been terrible as of late. Another one of my family lines also has insurance and I don't even want to begin with the last issue i had with that claim.
In Vegas we have shops that can actually fix phones for you...have you considered this route?

I've been pretty fortunate, going from a D1 (that is still working - gave it to a friend in need) to the Inc2, and (knock on wood) have had no issues.

Yes and no... I can't be without the handset and have no other phone.
I remember Vegas. Cellular depot on sahara was great for fixing phones.
Yeah, I'm in lake Tahoe now. There aren't any repair shops here so sending out is what happens.
If this was an att phone popping a sim out would be easy.
Perhaps a trip to reno would find me a repair person... in the past I'd spend hours with the company arguing my point. Now I don't have time between work and family.

if anyone is still looking
So here are the end results.
1. Verizon did offer me an early upgrade last november or december.
-- And now because they "lost too much money" they have decided to stop early upgrades for users. So basically I am screwed in this regard. I found it laughable and even told the rep how Verizon posted over a BILLION DOLLAR PROFIT recently, she seemed like she had no idea what that even meant.
2. Even retentions is not willing to work with me on this. The circumstances are not allowing for it, according to the rep I spoke to (pretty much his exact wording)
3. They are offering this:
OPTION #1 - Get a certified pre owned device for $329 (this would be a motorola razr or less money would give me a bunch of garbage options)
OPTION #2 - Add a line, and this will give me the ability to get a new phone as a new contract phone. But of course adds about $600/year to my contract
OPTION #3 - Buy a new device off the internet, beware of stolen phones, apparently verizon keeps a blacklist of stolen devices.
OPTION #4 - Spend the $500+ on a new device from VZW new retail in box.
I am so frustrated. Guess that i am screwed. They dont care.
id probably leave verizon in your situation. though, id leave anyway, so maybe that suggestion is a little bit slanted.
if you aren't going to leave, id try to find something on ebay.

Yeah anytime a phone is reported lost or stolen the esn is blacklisted. If you buy one local (like Craigslist) make the person meet you at a VZW store so you can have them check the esn before you pay for it. If you buy one online make sure the place you buy it from is reputable and has some buyer protection built in.

I should have listened to my instincts and went of the N7100. I really wanted to like the ATT version. I got the device. immediately rooted it and flashed the CleanLite Rom. There were a couple things I missed too much and the additional $30 a month was not worth it since we do not have LTE and if we did the speeds are really only realized when downloading ir uploading huge files. Regular browsing is still website dependent,
However the phone is always seeking LTE. No way to turn it off. Having been on Mediat Net UL data was nice but I never used more than 700mb and that was when I was steaming TuneIn radio just to try it out. (I was listening to the same shows we have locally.at different times) I am a talk radio junkie. I love all the gad fests, from Kim Komand to Rush Limbaugh. I am plugged in all day at work.
I need the FM Radio and I did not want to pay $15 more a month for it and have to get a 3GB plan. Not to mention the battery use for radio is far less than streaming wifi or carrier data. So I called ATT and Provisioned my International Note 1 for Smartphone data ( I had to convince them I had a smart phone because you cannot have two dumb phones on a family share plan and the wife International SGS II i9100 shows up as a dumb phone to get the Family Shared 1GB plan. Now we have messaging as well which we did not have and unlimited calling which we did not have. and I will buy an N7100 when the prices drop below $600. Funny all these years I was under the radar. they "discovered " my Note a a smart phone and I always had to call to switch it back to MediNet. Now I had to convince them it was a smart phone...Funny how things work.
The international development is very much further as well. although a few "ported" ROMs are showing up on this side of things.
Love the form factor of the Note 2 and it was very fast. The additional processing and RAM were clearly noticeable.
S Pen much better. Notification LED nice. There is a reason to upgrade for sure. In my case the N7100 is the better choice.Warranties mean little to me since I root the devices out of the box,
I posted this for those who are on the fence and may have similar needs.
Thanks for the post, man. I'm fighting myself over whether I want to go grab a Note II today (been thinking about it non-stop all weekend). Heck, I was cussing when I saw your post in the MP and I missed out! I'd have bought it in a heartbeat (and saved a couple of hundred $$$ in the process).
I've already got the AT&T GSIII, so I'm not sure how much of an upgrade the Note II would be for me. I mean, I KNOW it would be an upgrade in some areas, but I'm just trying to figure out if it warrants the $$$ (and the money isn't a problem for me...I'm just debating myself as I always do on large purchases). I'd be buying off-contract (as I did with the SIII), so it's not a small amount of money.
I usually get my phones, the off-contract ones at least, from Best Buy because of their generous 30-day return window and their price matching. I guess I could always grab a Note II and give it a go for a couple of weeks. Then I'll know for sure whether it's a worthy upgrade or not and if not, I can always return it without a restocking fee.
Glad to see you got things figured out. Sorry I missed out on buying your Note II, but glad to see you got it sold quickly! :good:

We have pretty good LTE coverage here...and I do use it..and I also had my time with 3 of the G3's...when they worked that is..
Looking at things objectively...is the Note 2 a upgrade worthy enough to leave the G3...IMHO...you bet it is especially if you like big screens...and can use the S-pen...
If those 2 things aren't enough to sway you...then maybe you should wait for the G 4 to come out...I would never go back to a G3 after using this one...to me it's leaps and bounds above them and custom roms will come...hell the sys dump for the ATT version just happened on the 6th of this month...so...IMHO...go get one and use it for a while...at least you will have a time with it to see what all the hubbub is about... and since they are still in short supply in many places...I don't think you will have any issue selling it if you don't like it..
Mac
I don't regret leaving my gs3 one bit. You either want a bigger screen or you don't and the internals are certainly a bump up. Getting the note 2 was a little intimidating now I don't think I could go back to the gs3.
about att and international note 2 choices, basically the question is: LTE & warranty or lots more custom rom
I choose att version only because i like LTE. and i am sure the att version will have its asop, cm 10/11, miui, and some kernel.

The problem with ASOP with the Notes is the S pen apps don't always work as they are Samsung apps and Samsung has been hoarding their drivers as well. The FM Radio did not work in Cyanogen. Needed a $10 app to make it work Spirit UL I think it was. I like the Samsung stuff well enough and eliminate the Social apps so I stick with the Stock Samsung ROMS. Especially since I am not a flashaholic and prefer to stick with a good ROM that only gets updated when there are major updates.
OP;us I am running 4..1.2 now and the ATT Note was a step back as far as Multiview etc went. Roms will be coming but like with the Captivate most of the good stuff will be ported from the N7100 developers

I bought it for $239 an signed a contract for two years I have been with ATT since Wireless began. I don;t plan on changing Carriers. We have had two upgrades for the past four years. I burned one to try the ATT version. Since I rooted it I don't feel right bringing it back and sold it instead made a few dollars toward the N7100 With the sale iof My Note either way it was going to cost me $300 to buy the N7100. Now it will be "free" or at most $100 more. I will use my wife's upgrade next year.
I buy her used International phones. She loves the SGS II i9100 and will be using that until it fails. Then I will find her a well used international SIII to keep her on the $30 non smartphone plan.
We pay $115 a month for two phones with UL everything except for the 1GB data Same as we were paying for two mediaNEt UL data phones with no messaging and 700 minutes. I don;t use a lot of carrier data with the FM radio especially.
Disregard me please. Im totally lost even more now. Att has a 1gb plan? I didnt know

For me, its an easy choice. LTE. I live about 30 miles from AT&T headquarters, so LTE speed is amazing. As far as custom rom's go. I create my own stuff, so that does not concern me the slightest.
CM will come. Ive already setup the device tree, I just need to figure out the RIL stuff and defconfig in the kernel, to enable to qualcomm modem.

Yeah they have a family share plan with UL talk and messaging with 1 GB data shared. One smart phone and one dumb phone would be $115 a month. They charge $40 plus $30 for the "dumb" phone and $45 for the smart phone. If my wife were to get an ATT smart phone the bill would go up nearly $200 a year. $15 more a month Still sharing 1GB. Not worth it. I would go back to MediNet and two "dumb" phones. We have a couple old dumb phones we stick the SIM cards in when calling ATT. Except now I have declared a smart phone to get UL talk and messaging.
With 4GB shared the bill would be $15 more Her phone would Still be $30 the plan would go to $70 and my phone would drop to $40 Basically I would get 3GB more for another $25 a month. I would rather pay the extra $15 for 2GB if i should use over 1GB. Without LTE there is no way I would be using 2GB.
LTE is great. but for basic web browsing 4G is fine. Downloading huge ROM files would be nice at home with 30MPS LOL I would use the Carrier before the cable internet. But I don;t want to become dependent on high carrier speeds. Its like the carriers are drug dealers. they get you hooked then you pay pay pay.....
