Am I the unluckiest hardware owner ever? (VZW hate incoming) - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Anyone ever have just... an Incredibly (no pun intended) bad time with hardware?
Here I am on my 4th device in 13 months.
It started when I allowed a best buy mobile rep talk me into the moto x2.
Phone #1 had a bum USB dock that wouldn't transfer data.
X2 numero dos had a proclivity to stutter all the time...root fixed that but then the headphone jack comes loose and all is broken.
X2 #3 same as #2 for headphone jack issues.
I fought long and hard and vzw offered me a slew of 4g devices which I chose a droid charge from.
But oops, cannot change a 3g device for a 4g device on warranty so now I get to choose from a myriad of garbage moto phones (wow a droid 3 or original x!) Or an incredible 2.
Now here I am with an incredible 2.
This came after I was offered and early upgrade over Christmas which I said no to, because I was five months invested in my current phone, why should I spend another $200 five months in??
Instead I called retentions and complained loudly and I got a pre owned incredible 2.
This phone has been an absolute dream. Even stock it is faster than than the x2s dual core CPU.
But getting this device in January I was warned that I am still in the moto x2 warranty period ending July 5th.
July 6th my phone started overheating and my screen will not light up with any images, just a dull black which I can still unlock answer etc.
Yeah. Freaking July 6th.
Now it happens just having it in my pocket.when it cools down all is good again...
As a last resort today being out of warranty anyhow I took the phone apart entirely, I took the motherboard assembly off and used compressed air to blow as much as I could behind the heat sync but this is just a broken phone I suppose because after reassembly it still isn't working.
So..long story longer, I went to a corporate store and they tell me I have two options, pay $500+ for a new device or get a second line and change to share everything for $50 more per month...
Or call 611.. which I do.
They tell me that I can pay $500+ or add a line (it'd be an extra $600/year I remind him) and he says sorry.
He can offer me an early upgrade that I'm asking for in March.
I said to him gee thanks, you are not really helping me, the website tells me exactly the same thing. Derrrrr. Dumb.
Basically, i was offered an early upgrade in December by a lackwitted tier 2 tech support agent and now because I didn't have $200 for a phone I knew would be severely updated I am being shaken down for a new handset.
I'm pretty upset to be honest, as I spend over $130/month with these guys and they just won't work with me.
So the conversation ends with me saying that since att has their own 4g where I live and that makes them an option for me, let's do math:
See, previously Verizon was the only service here that worked well. now I hear that att 4g covers here quite well...
$230 to cancel Verizon early
$200 for a brand new phone on att
------
$430
Vs the $569.00 for a galaxy nexus I wanted to get for $99 early upgrade.
Actually less after I get $50-$100 for spare parts on eBay for this incredible 2...
Assinine and no way to do business at all.

So I bought this on August 7th and have had no issues with it. I plan to use it until its dead (2 or 3 more years). I love my dinc 2.
I don't see a good reason to upgrade, even if I could. The newer phones are just faster, and have better displays, NTM the short battery life and that they break in 6 months.

Welcome to Verizon my friend, I had to literally swear at a Verizon rep to replace my 3rd Droid X2 with the Inc2 and this was after they said they didn't have any available and I called them out because they had started a promo on their website THAT SAME DAY for inc2's. I swear they train their employees to not help customers at all.

Thanks so much for the replies guys.
honestly I love the phone...I wanted a galaxy nexus, and am offering to start my co tract over again on their new terms where it isn't unlimited.
These people should be happy that they get me on another two years of my life and now get to charge me more money for service.
You all would love how I ended the call;
(After pointing out they encouraged me to cancel vs helping me)
" Well I honestly hope that for quality reasons this call was recorded and you made notes so tomorrow when I call back they can know exactly why I'm cancelling service. Thanks for having me be a part of Verizon wireless and have a great day!"

Was the X2 really that bad of a phone?
I had to choose from the dinc 2 or the X2. I made a great choice

i had an almost identical experience with a past phone. this is my last vzw phone. their network is ok, but i resent having to root my phone to get rid of their garbage apps, their prices are absurd, and their customer service is a nightmare. im switching to a gsm iphone and going prepaid.

The x2 had major memory management issues for all of the 2.2 releases. It would not stream music, or play any music for that matter without skips, crackles, hiccups and pops.
The tegra 2 had NOTHING to do with it, aside from some pretty looking games (that always get ported to other devices) it would not use the second core anyhow as android 2.2 and 2.3 as far as i know do not use multi core cpus efficiently.
the hardware issues killed me. The headphone jack coming unsoldered TWICE is a poor build quality.
I've no idea if Google intends to put their name on a product that Moto makes after purchasing the mobility department but they should think twice because the ONLY phone i have read good reviews on is the Aria HD and thats one phone out of what... four years worth of handsets?

My problem is that I live in a largely rural area, but a town of around 20,000 that is covered by whatever Reno has.
If reno NV has LTE, we have it. If they have 3g, we have it.
But in lake tahoe you cannot build a new cellular tower due to environmental concerns, therefore you work with what you have.
Verizon has a great deal with the casinos in the area and therefore has coverage EVERYWHERE.
Like i said, i was TOLD that att and their LTE is much better than their 3g was, but i know for a fact people around here on ATT hate it.
Tmobile is a joke and works only on main drags of streets, and sprint is about as bad as Tmobile.
So as all the new networks come online they cannot build new towers here, just work with what they got. The broader spectrum of LTE seems to help the signal for ATT, and the coverage VZW has due to being the first provider gives them the best network over all.
Sucks... but yea.

Had 4 Droid x2s before my incredible2. Music always popped and phone would reboot randomly all the time. So glad I pushed Verizon until they gave me this phone. The problems it has are very little when compared to x2.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium

Yea the X2 had amazing potential but in the end it failed, locked boot loader, couldn't play music for sh*t, the 2nd core wasn't utilized very well, low graphic memory, etc, etc

That sucks man. I would look more into ATT if I were you. If it seems like the people you know have just as bad of experiences with them then i would just keep calling VZW until they offer you something better. I usually use a line like "I've been dealing with this issue for x amount of time and nobody that I have spoken with has even acknowledged the problems that I have already gone through! What can you do to make me feel like I should stay with your company?" Don't waste your breath on the regular care reps, the can't do much for you. Talk to loyalty/retentions. That line got me $400 worth of free products and movie channels when dish network lost amc and has worked on many other occasions. Shift the focus to all of the problems you have had with your phones and the fact that you don't feel like a valued customer instead of focussing just on the phone you have now.
Best of luck man. I hope this helps!

I don't think you have bad luck...I have replaced quite a few devices myself and never abuse them.
I do buy the insurance though thru vzw because I live in Vegas. It gets hot here and puts stress on the phones. I also change my synthetic oil every 5k instead of 8k because of the weather.
The good news is that if you want to stay on vzw you can buy on Craigslist to save a bit of money. Eventually when I feel there is a more solid phone I will do this (the latest phone has never been important to me)
Verizon has been terrible as of late. Another one of my family lines also has insurance and I don't even want to begin with the last issue i had with that claim.
In Vegas we have shops that can actually fix phones for you...have you considered this route?

I've been pretty fortunate, going from a D1 (that is still working - gave it to a friend in need) to the Inc2, and (knock on wood) have had no issues.

Yes and no... I can't be without the handset and have no other phone.
I remember Vegas. Cellular depot on sahara was great for fixing phones.
Yeah, I'm in lake Tahoe now. There aren't any repair shops here so sending out is what happens.
If this was an att phone popping a sim out would be easy.
Perhaps a trip to reno would find me a repair person... in the past I'd spend hours with the company arguing my point. Now I don't have time between work and family.

if anyone is still looking
So here are the end results.
1. Verizon did offer me an early upgrade last november or december.
-- And now because they "lost too much money" they have decided to stop early upgrades for users. So basically I am screwed in this regard. I found it laughable and even told the rep how Verizon posted over a BILLION DOLLAR PROFIT recently, she seemed like she had no idea what that even meant.
2. Even retentions is not willing to work with me on this. The circumstances are not allowing for it, according to the rep I spoke to (pretty much his exact wording)
3. They are offering this:
OPTION #1 - Get a certified pre owned device for $329 (this would be a motorola razr or less money would give me a bunch of garbage options)
OPTION #2 - Add a line, and this will give me the ability to get a new phone as a new contract phone. But of course adds about $600/year to my contract
OPTION #3 - Buy a new device off the internet, beware of stolen phones, apparently verizon keeps a blacklist of stolen devices.
OPTION #4 - Spend the $500+ on a new device from VZW new retail in box.
I am so frustrated. Guess that i am screwed. They dont care.

id probably leave verizon in your situation. though, id leave anyway, so maybe that suggestion is a little bit slanted.
if you aren't going to leave, id try to find something on ebay.

Yeah anytime a phone is reported lost or stolen the esn is blacklisted. If you buy one local (like Craigslist) make the person meet you at a VZW store so you can have them check the esn before you pay for it. If you buy one online make sure the place you buy it from is reputable and has some buyer protection built in.

So are you keeping your EVO or thinking about the new Droid?

Before I get blasted on this I am not trying to compare which phone is better etc only that I have some concerns with the build quality of the EVO and the 30fps issue..
I don't really have any of the issues others have reported but that doesn't mean I wont down the line and I am stuck with the phone for 2 years.
My 30 days is up July 4 or so and even though I love the EVO I think is safe to say there are some legitimate concerns on build quality reading the forums with screen lift issues and other things.
I'm just curious what other EVO users are thinking. I'm starting to question HTC and some of the things they do.

I've been calling Best Buy since Monday to replace mine, but they are sold out, my 30 days is up July 5 but the way i see it, i won't be able to replace it. I love my EVO, the only concern i have is with the screen thing.
you know you have a 1 year warranty on the device. and how warranty exchanges go on phones is if the sprint store (like one I work at) is an advanced exchange/service and repair store. we will exchange it out for you by ordering a device. if we have one to exchange we will. just all replacement devices after 30 days arent new from htc. they are rebuilt phones.
most people think rebuilt phones mean pre owned. how it works more and more often especially with new phones such as hero/pre/evo/ bb 8530 they are all new. They are built at a sprint warehouse with ALL completely brand new parts out of the bag. The only thing thats reused if anything at all is the radio antenna because thats the most expensive part.
I'm keeping my EVO because I'm a Sprint customer. I've had zero problems with it, and I have an upgrade due in October, so if something amazing comes out next year then I can get one on the cheap.

I'm keeping mine. I have a full coverage squaretrade warranty that I got for 2 years for $60. I'm not worried about any of these issues since I know they can be taken care of regardless, at any time.
Squaretrade warranties are killer - If they can't replace the phone at the time they pay you the full unsubsidized cost. I've used them plenty of times.. they even fixed my laundry washer I got covered w/ them!
EDIT: Also if you wanted to get squaretrade you have until a month from purchase. Since I am I preview customer I got 30% off. If you are new to them use code TWTYOFF and get 20% off.

I bought a warranty with Radioshack, it covers everything for 2 years and costs only 100$, only thing it doesn't cover is abuse or accidental, but thats why we buy insurance. No refurbs for me.
Squaretrade covers accidental. Store warranties are often bloated in cost.

but do i need to but the sprint insurance for use that warranty?
I'll be keeping mine, I'm pretty sure. The new Droid X looks awesome but I'm sure the developer community will be able to solve all the software issues with the EVO (30fps and screen lag) and all it really requires is a firmware update from HTC if they decided to fix it first hand. I'm not having any major hardware issues and if I ever do, I have insurance with Sprint and I'll just get them to exchange it. By that time, there will be new batches that probably are much better quality.
Even with all the negative press and angry posts about this phone, I really still love it. It's the best phone I've ever used and honestly after using an iphone for quite a while, the iphone has got nothing on this thing. iPhone 4 seems good but the EVO and iPhone have trade-offs in the pros and cons. The EVO just suits me better.
I'm happy for Verizon customers though! The new Droids look awesome (the design looks way better too) and it really looks like VZ and Moto are going in with the Droid branding this time around, especially with the new Motoblur skin. I'll definitely be in a Verizon store playing with them at least.

MIght help out when on month to month after my girl gets an phone that needs the 10 dollars charge I might be able to get a discount off my bill due im paying for unlimited data three times
I'm on the fence. My contract with Verizon just ended, and I was gonna pick up an Evo today (BB, RS & Sprint stores around here have been sold out of them, but Sprint store is supposed to be getting a new shipment in today) but with all the issues I keep hearing about, it's really making me think twice. Obviously any new device is probably going to have issues but I don't know if it's worth jumping ship from VZW just yet.
The thing that's making me still seriously consider the Evo is all the awesome work being done by the developers on here ...

no. all phones you buy come with a 1 year warranty. that just doesnt cover accidental, physical, liquid, theft loss etc...
mainly manufacturers defects.

This. Oftentimes, from my experience, a phone isn't "refurbished" because it's been defective or damaged in the past, but rather because someone changed their minds after it was activated, before leaving the store. I'm not sure how it works at Sprint Corp stores, but at Radioshack, if the phone's been on someone's account at all, even without being programmed, we have to send it back to get the ESN cleared, and because of that, it's considered refurbished. Ruins the value completely, all because someone couldn't make up their minds.

premium retailer lies

Amazing what these stores get away with. my wife and I stopped in at a premium retailer and were looking at the dinc2 just out of curiosity. I liked it but told the salesman that I really need 4g for the constant tethering I do for work, I told him my upgrade HAD to be a 4g. He told me that there is a Sim card that updates the phone to 4g coming out very soon. Like an idiot I bought 2 on my upgrade and got rid of my Dinc 1. I ran the ruu right there in the store and unrooted, handed it to my brother. Throw your blackberry in the trash dude....
When I found out he lied the manager said he would not wave the restocking fee. He also said the activation for two years was irrevocable. Called Verizon, they waved it and said I have 14 days for the activation reset.
Manager of the store, when I called back, said since he is a premium retailer, he can and will charge the fee. had to call Verizon back to prove this untrue.
There must be no governing of these stores at all. , Verizon doesn't care and there doesn't seem to be much I can do. I love the phone actually but no way i'm buying it from these guys....but I HATE to have to fight with people over stuff like this
Anyway just fishing for opinions, and looking for any advise I can get.
at least i'm back to running magnolia. man I missed that ROM! Runs awesome on this phone too.
Unfortunately it is the retailers phone not Verizon's, so in fact he can charge whatever he wants. Bypass the manager and talk to the OWNER of the franchise should get it taken care of. I'm sorry that you were lied to but this is a perfect example of why doing your research is VERY important, who knows the store you go to may end up trying to charge every cent
If this is a 2 year renewal upgrade, you could have went thru Amazonwireless.com and purchased the Dinc2 for 1 penny + free shipping. Yes only a cent!
Tbolt and Droid 2 are also available starting at only a penny depending on your contract, discount and renewal.
I looked at Verizonwireless.com and they wanted $199-$30 Verizon credit = $169, then on my corporate discount website and they wanted $199-$30 Verizon Credit - $30 Corp discount = $139.

just want to add my experience with a third party retailer. I bought a tbolt from one and didn't like it, I have a mifi pad so my phone doesn't need to have 4g I went to return it to get my dinc2 they said they couldn't because I didn't have the.sleeve with the serial numbers that goes over the box. so I went home and tore the house apart. then my wife, who has a photographic memory, informs me it didn't come with a sleeve. so I went back to the store and it took three calls to a manager and me raising all kinds of hell to get it switched. the tbolt was only two days old by the way. Morale of the story is third party vendors are crooked an will screw you all day if you let them

And to add to all the above... A lot of the salespeople have no clue as to what they are selling. They will tell you anything to make the sale.
I do know there are a few out there that do know what's up in the world of mobile phones, but where I live they are few and far between.
Google as I say (and many others) is your friend.
Hopefully you can get this straightened out without costing you more money.
I have to say that third parties are hit and miss. I manage a premium location in sc. We follow the guide lines of Corp. If customer service says waive then we waive. We are one of the few around that work off that philosophy. We want customers to have a better experience in our stores than corporate stores.
With that said I have had my own horrible experiences at premiums and authorized retailers. There a lot of crooks out there and will rip you a new one at the drop of the hat.

oxlong, you and I shoulda gotten together! Thats the one I want lol. I can handle the battery.
I freaking dropped it today. Put a small but unfixable dent on the top. The fine print of the guarentee doesnt mention condition of the phone. Hope I didnt just give them their out.
be wary of the bolt. most of the roms are buggy and that's not the devs fault HTC still haven't released official GB to my knowledge so that means no source code. and I can deal with poor battery life but the bolts batt life is just horrible. maybe mine was just a lemon I don't know. a good solution is a mifi it picks up 3 and 4g and is ultra portable I love mine

Back when I got my Titan from a premium box store, it would not turn on the second day. I called Verizon and they told me in the first 30 days I needed to go back to this store. They said I did not buy the protection plan, so it was not covered. I called Verizon customer service and they called this store and the VZW service rep corrected everything for me. She even let me listen in on the conversation as she set them straight. Try calling VZW and complaint about this third party and how they are doing you wrong.

Sprint Customer Service...

Well, I got my Galaxy Nexus on the 21st, was very excited to get it, but I ended up returning it yesterday because I didn't like it very much compared to my Epic Touch. I had used my brother's upgrade (he doesn't care much about phones.) so I could get the early upgrade pushed to my account (~$45 charge). Anyways, when I was returning it, my main reason for returning was battery with screen time was terrible! (2 hours maximum for me, even on lowest brightness) and speakers weren't loud at all. Otherwise, it was a really good phone.
Anyways, when I went in, I told him I wanted to exchange the phone. He continued to tell me that having two web browsers (stock and ICS+) was draining the battery, my 1 minute screen idle screen off time was too high and that I had NFC checked, which was draining battery the entire time...(even though my complaint was screen on, not standby). After making me feel like an idiot, he told me I should just put the phone on Craigslist to trade it out for the Epic Touch (lol?). After I confirmed I wanted an exchange, he told me I'll have to put the phone back on the upgraded line myself, so he sent me over to their phone with no number to call (had to look it up on the device I was returning. lol!) I asked if they could do it for me and said only customer service can do it for me...kind of seems strange a SPRINT store couldn't do it for me. So I took about 15 minutes getting on the phone with someone, an additional 15 minutes getting the phones swapped back, then finally I had someone helping me with the exchange. Sprint said my upgrade fee is irreversible, that it changed my contract and that I could only use it at Sprint to upgrade my device. They also said my restocking fee and activation fee wouldn't be waived. While they were processing the Galaxy Nexus return, I called BestBuy, told them of my situation and they told me to return the phone and come in (the Epic Touch is $149.99 at BB anyways), so I went back into the store and just told them to return the phone and I'll be on my way. Well, they took about an hour processing my return AFTER I came back in and once again they said I can only use my early upgrade at a Sprint store. After I left activating my old Epic (SPH-D700), I went straight to BestBuy, used my early upgrade there, and got out in 30 minutes. I'm just surprised with how badly Sprint treated their customers.
Anyone else get terrible experience like this at Sprint? My total visit was from 10:40 to 1:00 PM!
Just saying now...AVOID THIS STORE!

P.S. I gave a family member my old Epic Touch, which is why I couldn't just simply go back to it.
P.S.S. I am glad to be back!
EDIT: They waived my restocking fee, but activation fee still there. lol
I'm glad it work out and your back

Haha, I'm probably going to hold out for the SGSIII. This phone was definitely faster, too. Nothing but Exynos for me.
I must say that I had a similar problem when I returned in my Photon (within my 30 days) for the Epic Touch on launch day. I had already called cs beforehand to make sure that I wouldn't have any problems. The manager at the local store was a real ***** and insisted that I be charged a $30 restocking fee. She even made a second invoice for the return. I called cs back and they refunded $15 as they couldn't find the invoice in their system. How convenient. Needless to say, I will do my phone purchases at Best Buy from now on, as they never give me any hassles. The Sprint GS3 will be an S4 as the Verizon leaked one will...so Evo S4 vs GS3 S4. Or maybe the Note successor? I'm gonna pass on the new Photon...

Sorry to hear about your crappie experience at your Sprint store... I picked up a Galaxy Nexus a few days ago (5) at my local Sprint store and was not impressed with it at all. Battery life was horrible stock and not much better rooted and romed. Took it back this morning and didn't have one issue returning it. No restock fee or having to call anyone to do it. Just unrooted and reset it, put it back in its box and told the CS rep I didn't like it. They reactivated my EVO and made sure that my upgrade was still good.

The US version of the S3 isn't getting the Quadcore Samsung Exynos chip, it's not compatible with US LTE/4G. The US version is going to get the Dualcore Qualcom S4 chip.

I hate how sales reps always seem to take returns personally, especially when you didn't buy the phone from them in the first place so you aren't taking commission out of their pocket.
I always purchase my phones through Sprint's website unless someone local is offering a deal that can't be beat and if I need to return that phone I take it into the local corporate store as is allowed.

Thats why i buy from Sam's Club. they give you 30 day exchanges too even though sprint changed their policy, usually have the phone on release day with no lines, lower price (and save money on taxes too in CA bc how they ring it up), and while ur waiting on activation u head on down to the food section and grab urself a polish dog!

They seemed a lot more helpful when I went in to buy the phone (they even sold me it a day early). Sucks to see how much they change when you want to return something.
As for the s4, I am not going to believe it until Samsung announces it. This exact thing happened last year with this phone. Remember when everyone stated this phone was going to get the Tegra 2?

They do have the Exynos compatible with LTE, but only for the Korean market as of now, as their LTE network is different from the US/Canada.
Tomorrow at 2pm EST is not that far away, so we'll see.

Absolutely the worst customer service of any provider out there. They don't give 2 ****s about their customers and that is very clear. Not only do they offer extremely poor customer service, but their rude on top of it. T-Mobile has excellent CS in comparison hands down...(and yes, once my contract expires I will never go back to sprint, I made a mistake and now I'm stuck in this pool of ****).
If you think their stores are bad, try calling them on the phone, there they REALLY don't give a ****....on the line with some fat ghetto chick that's filling her nails and can't speak proper Inglish, now that's a treat for ya! I recently had a 2 hour argument with them about no service at my house and at work (you know, the usual no text coming through at times, calls that never come through, and lets no speak about their 3g speeds...) . Nothing was done to help me, I even explained that I have a 3 year old at home with the wife and that it's vital that I don't miss calls in case of an emergency etc...but apparently my word doesn't jack since it shows that my area has coverage on their system. Their final response was: "Sir, that's what our 14 day return policy is for!" Bout lost it as you can imagine...!:banghead:
Sorry for the novel, saw the title and couldn't help it, but since that experience I have developed a deep hatred for sprint and their horrible CS. I ****ing hate them, but I'm stuck ATM...(and no I'm not spending 700$ to get out of it..).

Good to have you back. Just a thought for the future, check out Amazonwireless next time. Got my E4GT for $100 less than Sprint (or Corp Sprint store) - $99.00 U.S. AND got it in just two days; ordered on monday around noon had it in my hand by wednesday afternoon! Let it charge for a little while called CS from my old phone and let them know I was wanted to activate my new phone, and in less than 5 minutes I was up and running. I've sent other to Amazonwireless and none have been dissapointed. A co-worker save $100 on the lates Droid4 too.

[Q] What's your next phone?

So, I am currently in the market for a new phone because I am sick of how HTC treats their customers. I was wondering if you guys thought jumping on the Galaxy Nexus would still be a good idea even though the Sg3 is out.
The Sg3 looks amazing, but it is kind of out of my price range with the average price being $400. I have found a few Nexus' anywhere from $200-250 which is more my style. The thing that worries me though is that it is already close to a year old and I know the minute I purchase one the next greatest phone will be out.
Does anyone know when the next Nexus phone will be out? I am due for an upgrade around March, but would really like to jump to a 4g phone before then.
What do you guys think? Stay with the inc2, grab a Nexus, or just wait until I can get something with my upgrade?
Any ideas?
I've had an upgrade since July I was going to get the sg3 but when I found out it was dual core it turned me off BC I was stoked for quad. Then I was going to get the inc4g, but I hate sense and I'm tired of HTC. I was close to getting the gnex on Saturday for $50 from best buy, but like you said its already a year old plus the 5mp camera is kinda iffy for me especially since the og Inc had an 8mp back in 2010! I'm going to wait for the galaxy note 2 coming out soon 1.6 quad core 2gigs ram super HD amoled running JB
I was considering a SG3 as well, or the GNEX, but I am currently satisfied with the Inc2 at the moment and will way my options when I am ready for a new device. I am curious if anyone has tested out any of these phones and had any opinions as well. I have not "upgraded" since they got away from unlimited data, so I am still grandfathered in and not sure if I will sign a new contract or just purchase the phone. The 4g is not a big issue with me as Big Red has not brought it to our area yet, and probably wont see it anytime soon.
Maybe I will wait for the Note 2 as well. My friend has the SG3 and the screen on it is beautiful. The one thing about the Note which I am unsure about is the stylus. I don't know how I feel about that. It's not like that is a big deal breaker for me, just something I'm unsure about. I have had 4g in my area since it has been released, for the most part, so I def want to go 4g. I am worried I will lose my unlimited, which is why I was starting to look for 4g now.
Samsung does make a great looking phone though. Colors are so vibrant on them. When the Note 2 comes out, is it supposed to be better than SG3 or is that phone still going to be considered the best?

It's not HTC's fault. They already gave the OTA to vzw a while ago. It's big red's fault for not releasing the goddamn update already because they need to bloat the **** out of it before they can be satisfied.

The stylus to me is just an accessory. You can function the phone without it. If I use my upgrade I will lose unlimited, but I'm only using 1.3 gigs a month. Not to mention my $200 phone bill and 2 unused phone lines. So upgrading will cancel unlimited data but I'll be saving $100+ dollars a month with my military discount. There's no real reason to use 4gig+ of data so I wouldn't worry about losing unlimited. Unlimited data users probably are getting throttled anyway. The note 2 is going to be a supercharged s3. Check out the specs on both http://www.autoomobile.com/news/samsung-galaxy-note-2-vs-s3-4/1003595/
My only problem is whether to stay on Verizon or not. The Verizon version of the note2 is going to have the Verizon brand on the home button! I can't believe that. I'm super satisfied with my inc2 only BC I rooted. But the lack of ota is troubling. This phone isn't that old

Do you know of a way to check the actual data usage without calling up Verizon? I also just did watch a few videos of the Note 2 being used and all I can say is WOW. This phone looks like it is going to be a pure beast. Also, you are right about the stylus being an accessory. After watching this video with it in use, I think I completely changed my opinion on it.

I only have 2 options for cellular service, Verizon or Cell One because I live in a small town. I have been with Verizon since probably 2004, switching from Sprint when I lived in Atlanta GA. I have never had an issue with them as far as service quality, prices are a bit high but I will pay for them as long as I have good service. As for the Inc 2 I will probably use it for another year or so before I consider switching, unless something happens to it before then. I have only been using mine for about 3 months or so and paid $75 for it from an acquaintance of mine that upgraded to the RazrMaxx.

I am from New Jersey love the service I get from Verizon. I have yet to go someplace that doesn't give me great service (unless I'm in a basement with no windows or something similar). As for other services, I have just about everything you can find in my area and from having friends I pretty much see everyone leave all other to come to Verizon. AT&T is the only one that can compete with Verizon in my area, but the only people I know that have that service is the Iphone users. For $75 you can't go wrong with this phone. It is def a great phone and aside from the lack of updates and no 4g that is my only complaint.
Nitsua, you say Big Red has the OTA and I have heard that before also, but how true is it? Is Verizon keeping the OTA secret because they are bloating it up or do they actually not have it? We may never know the truth until it is either released or they come out and say that the OTA will not be coming. Of course, I hope it comes, but I feel myself slowly getting sick and tired of the wait, especially since they promised up end of Aug. and now we are a week from October.
Yes, They have been late on phones before, but from my research, this is the longest they have gone after missing a date which really angers me towards both HTC and Verizon.

I'm not too bothered by not getting the ICS OTA honestly. There are plenty of ICS ROMs that are functional enough for me to use. I'll just stick it out until I can upgrade in July, 2013 and either upgrade or switch carriers. Who knows what phones will be out by then?

I have a droid bionic just sittin here. I may use that, but with that remote phone wipe hack I may just forget about it.The hack doesn't seem to affect the INC2.
my upgrade isn't till may. Depending on the inc4g, i will purchase it if its s-off. Otherwise, I think i'll be getting the SGSIII. My next phone has to be unlocked someway.
I'm really diggin the xperia phones. And it looks like most of them are getting ics in the next couple weeks. The ion is free on the us sony site.

[Q] How to join the Note 2 club early?

So, I bought a HTC One X on AT&T when it launched in June(?). Anyway, I don't have an upgrade until 2014. I did fall in love with the Note 2 though, I seriously want one. Any ideas on how to get an early upgrade?
So far, here are my issues that I would tell the service representative:
•The One X is locked down. It's my own device and AT&T is preventing me from taking advantage of development.
•I get constant errors and reboots, even after a factory reset
•HTC and/or AT&T has failed to distribute timely software updates. International users of this phone have had the latest software for days now, and US users are stuck with a locked down phone and old software
•The performance of the phone has degraded over time
•Everyone in my family gets terrible reception, we've been customers for 12 years and are considering leaving AT&T due to how terrible the service has gotten.
Of course, my phone is unlocked, OCed, UVed, and all of that. I just want a damn Note 2.
Anyone have suggestions?
I hope to join this crowd soon, thanks!

Of course, my phone is unlocked, OCed, UVed, and all of that. I just want a damn Note 2.
Anyone have suggestions?

I know it is really big, but there are one or two people who claim to have done something similar to what you want to do. And good luck.:highfive:

Gives me ideas...muahahah.
I'm going to be calling them first thing tomorrow morning, but if anyone else has any ideas throw them here!
Let's see. Your under contract now. Want a Note 2.
1) Buy off contract and keep the HoX as a backup.
2) Buy off contract and sell hox to offset cost.
3) Buy off contract and hope you can sell a kidney on Ebay or Craigslist to cover the cost.
4) But off contract and.......
I think you see where I'm going. Any attempt to excuse yourself from your current contract is purely unethical.
I just want one early upgrade. I've never asked them for one before in all of the 12 years we've been giving them money for their mediocre network.
Worst comes to worst, I'll just sell the HOXL, sell this old Infuse I have laying around, and get it no-contract.
Oh, early upgrade. That's only an extra $100 to the contract price, if I'm not mistaken.

Hmm, that's manageable if they do it. The issue is that my next upgrade is in 2014, I've had the HOXL for almost 6 months now, so I'm nowhere near my upgrade hah. It's worth asking them about though, that's for sure.
Add another line, get the phone,freeze/suspend the unuse line for 6 months for $8 recurring then after 6 months reactivate it but with a cheap flip phone this time that doesn't require data for $15 a month.Im on t-mobile & thats how i got it ,i think At&t should have something similar ?

Ah, adding a line isn't something the rest of the family would be happy with. We all split the bill 3 ways, so probably not the best idea
I wonder what the ETF would be if I just wanted to close my line from ATT and go off to another better carrier...leaving the other lines intact.
$325 plus $10 for every month remaining on the contract

Jeez, even for one damn line?
Dafuq.
That's just their etf policy. Even for 1 little line.
That blows.

As the other thread to which I linked this one demonstrates, it doesn't hurt to ask, nicely. Making things up/lying is unethical -- trying to work something out with your phone vendor is just business, and they obviously subscribe to some budging on their part as being acceptable.
Good luck getting your Note 2, OP. I love mine.

try tell AT&T this and they will probably consider your request. my impression is they are pretty flexible. competition is tough these days.
They will do an early upgrade for 399 no problem, but getting it for 299 will take some ass kissing. Tell them you just can't afford 399, they'll come down.
Either way, its worth it. This phone is a beast.

UPDATE:
So, I called them up. I got in touch with a hot Russian sales rep, she had the sexiest voice in the world. Naturally, I flirted with her. Got her number from a personal call-back, as well as a Facebook link lol.
She connected me to a supervisor, it disconnected. I called back, got another rep, she denied me rights to speak to a supervisor so I cursed her out and ultimately got a supervisor on the phone. Without any hesitation, he said he would process the upgrade, waive the upgrade fee, add free shipping, and match Amazon's price of $199. Oh and I got a $100 credit to my account too. So, got a GN2 for $100!
My basis of argument was that I've been a customer for 11 years, and I've seen the service go from bad to worse. I used the latest Consumer Reports article ranking AT&T last as an enforcement method. I also told them that I'm disappointed with the lack of software updates on the HOXL, the locked bootloader preventing me from developing (we all know it's unlocked already though), and the fact that instead of remedying the issues, HTC just released the One X+ and the HOXL adopters were left dead in the water. I told them I'd rather just go to Verizon, which was ranked #1.
Epic win?

I want to use the same argument. But I'll be marching into the store today since I've been in contact with our business rep already and he referred me to the local store agent. Wish me luck!
Let us know how it goes!
