[Q] Porting Touchwiz Apps to CM10 - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello I would like to know some things about porting Touchwiz Apps to AOSP or CM..
Why there's a port for the Touchwiz Launcher and there can't be a port of Camera or Gallery app for example because those are the ones I would like to have
How it's possible or "legal" to port the Launcher and not the rest of the apps that what I read that illegal to use Touchwiz libs or something but how Launcher? for Example I have Touchwiz Launcher on my phone with CM10 and I would like to have camera and gallery
If its possible to port it? can someone tell me please how to do it
I want camera & gallery apps from samsung because they are a lot better that Original Apps and I dont want to go to Samsung Android..
}
Thanks !

.... who is porting Touchwiz launcher? All of the Touchwiz-based ROM's you see in the Android Development section, be it running ICS or JB, are based on either official builds of ICS, or leaked/ported builds of JB. I've yet to see a PORT of anything TouchWiz on a custom ROM.
Android Development = Samsung build leaks/ports
Original Android Development = CM/AOSP builds.

apparently drewgaren claims he's working on "porting touchwiz apps" to cm10. so lets see how far that'll go. and it requires alot of libs and framework stuff to be cross compiled and then alot of trial and error and then profit. till then .......

Well Now that it is possible to decompile the split back to java it could be easier to do it.

i guess you're not aware of the legal side of stuff using touchwiz stuff on custom rom? good luck googling it and you wonder if its possible. it is but the amount of time you're gonna put in porting all those things could take 2 years. i remember back in xperia x10 days one of the guy was working on porting sony camera and stuff onto a cm7 rom and after 1 year it was still wonky. so go figure. and then he just said forget it.

Yea... there's that to deal with, too. Google doesn't even want Google Apps pre-installed on Cyanogenmod ROM's... so i can't imagine what Sammy's take would be on porting their camera and such to CM roms.

I'm not sure about the s3, but i think on the captivate you could use twlauncher on cm7. You don't get any of the widgets or features though. I personally don't see why you would want to.
I'm with you on wanting the camera. This is the one thing i really miss when I'm on an aosp rom. I compared my wife's camera to mine while i was on cm10. The colors are slightly off (maybe white balance) and the focus time was slower on cm. There are other great camera apps like procapture that will give you more functionality similar to the tw camera.

I am aware if that.
And as far as I know some one had the player working but had a problem with Samsung specific path that the app needed and he couldn't change then since they where hardcoded

Im with you on that one. Ive tried a few other ROMS and they are very good and I do like them. But I miss my stock camera too much so I always go back to a ROM with stick camera.

I wanted S Memo and Video Player cause CM10 doesn't have those type of apps and I think these are better developed than the similar apps on the play store. Besides, I like original stock apps compared to 3rd party apps.

Has anyone actually done this / can provide guidance?
I'm looking to port the video player, clock and yahoo news widget(live wallpaper) from the stock samsung rom over to a cm10 base.

[Q][APP][PORT] JVU Camera to ICS

Hello everybody,
for some days I've been using ICS on my SGS.. Everything is very smooth and good, but I miss the camera functionality of the JVU-ROM.
I've tried to simply copy over the odexed camera.apk to my ICS-ROM but it is not even shown in the launcher.. So I can't start it!
Anybody else tried to use the JVU camera on ICS? Interrests?
put a "[Q]" or "?" in topic title :/
btw,
I think is impossible. cause Samsung's camera app use framework and I never seen Samsung's Camera app in CM or ICS or MIUI ROMs.
perhaps you are right, haven't found any posts due to this thematic..
does anybody know a good alternativ from the market? with the nice panorma function of samsungs camera app?

Is not impossible but it is not allowed by Samsung -due to copyrights.
That's why didn't see Samsung apps (not only the camera) in cyanogen or miui!

I think that would be no problem, because I payed for those apps as I bought my SGS and if I use this app on my SGS nobody can say something...
The camera app should not be in CyanogenMOD or MIUI but a flashable apk for those who want to use it on AOSP-ICS for SGS would be a nice thing.. I will try a little bit around with this

(Request) Port touchwiz camera to aosp roms...

Hey guys I was wondering if its possible to port the camera from stock ROM to aosp. I'm a huge camera user and camera quality for me is important. I did notice that the aosp camera really sucks compared to stock ROM. So is it possible?
Impossible.
yes it is possible but no one is going to do it because it requires other files in conjunction with the camera apk. and even more work to get it running on aosp roms
I was also looking for a way to do this but already knew it was unlikely.

I would agree with OP that the stock camera on TW is the best.
It's fast and seems to be more clear.
However, I don't think that devs are willing to put out extra time on porting something so difficult.

What are the possibilities of an AOKP/CM/Paranoid and TouchWiz hybrid?

I love the features of various source developed ROMs like AOKP, CM, or Paranoid Android. But at the same time I'm so used to certain Touchwiz things, like the calendar, dialer, browser...
What's the likelihood that someone could move the TW framework and apps over to a source-based ROM? Is it possible? Would it be stable? Or should I just find third party apps and move on with my life?
Some people have been able to port some, not all, of the TW apps but as far as everything else, it's never going to happen. People have wasted hundreds of hours and gotten no where.

I would love to see something like this, but I'm realistic and know its probably not possible.
I can continue to dream about seeing the touchwiz camera on cm10 though, right?

If someone could just get the TW camera ported to AOSP, that would be awesome!
There have been a few in the past that were TW base but had some AOKP things added. But they arent up to date anymore
I know that jellybam has a touchwiz launcher but not the touchwiz apps. Plus i don't know how stable that rom is at the moment.
I've talked with johnsondr80 over at The Collective some time ago, and they apparently looked into merging TW into their ROM, and apparently it became apparent as to how incredibly massive it was going to be to do that. Apparently TW is interwoven throughout the entire ROM, and in essence would require (pretty much) a build from scratch........ I'm not a dev, so I could've misunderstood. But it sounded like it was was too much work for the benefits

[Q] Samsung apps and CM 10

Hi men,
Just a question. I wonder why the Samsung Apps (like Snotes, etc....) dosen't work in CM 10s rom.
Defintily i realy love CM 10 but the plus of our GN7100 is the Spen. So i tested all the 3rd party apps like GNote, Google agenda etc...but the Spen is not so integrated than with The others ROM
Is there any possibility to see in the future the Sapps on a CM Rom ?
Thanks by advance for your answer
I also want the apps to be in cm 10

+1.
No. Period.

Those apps needs proprietary code embedded in touchwiz framework in order to work.. So you most likely won't ever see those apps running outside touchwiz

Every cool feature you see on touchwiz are tied to touchwiz framework... Best you can do its to get a bloat free minimal custom touchwiz rom, put some launcher nova like on it.. Use the AOSP icons, and that's the closest you will be to have sort of AOSP sized and themed rom with touchwiz features

[Q] Can you get "Samsung" hand gestures on TW?

Running ParanoidKangDroid v.2.30 ROM. I'd like to have the hand gestures that come with TouchWiz. Is there a possible way to have this on my ROM?

you should try to keep all your questions in 1 post. you'll actually get better help that way.
you are on an AOSP rom. you want TW features which are woven into the stock firmware's framework. its essentially a choice: a few TW features vs custom AOSP optimizations. both can share some similar customizations, but not everything is interchangeable.
Any of the feature on TW WILL NOT WORK ON ANYTHING BESIDES TW.....
None!
They're dependant on touchwiz and won't work on anything else.

As long as source code for TW stays unreleased its impossible to port. That's why no devs bother to try and port. Its going in blindfolded. Same with Sense and other UI overlays. So when Samsung releases source code it'll be possible.

What features exactly? There's apps like Wave Control that do similar things...
Ya, there are a lot of apps that allow TouchWiz like features. There is a MMS apk for AOSP roms that has the while in messaging put phone to ear for Direct Dial. Just search in the playstore TouchWiz or galaxy s III things like that.

Well for that particular feature, I recently discovered that Liquidsmooth (and quite possibly CM, as well as JellyBam and others) have this feature in the settings for the stock messaging application. It's the last setting, labelled as "Direct Dial", but it's pretty inconsistent with the auto-dialing. I've noticed that when I'm laying down and attempt to call it won't work because if I put the phone to my ear the screen just flips to landscape view, and stays on. When I'm up right it tends to work, however I haven't had many opportunities to test this out yet.
That would be sweet if someone got two working with aosp, they need to release the code...
