[Q] HTC G2 Touchscreen Unresponsive, tech help please - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings.
I have a G2 that i bought for $50 for my wife that has an inoperable touchscreen..
I recently fixed my own G2 (with another G2 i bought for parts) which had a faulty flex cable and so i thought i'd fix my wife's with the extra parts.
The digitizer is good on the phone, I tested it by taking apart my own G2. The flex cable only has a very small cut, but the display is not affected at all.
I narrowed it down to the whole Flex cable assembly though, i'm not sure if its not reading the digitizer right or what.
I have another Flex cable assembly with a broken flex cable (but the rest of it works, i think)
Is there any way I can fix it?
Don't want to spend $20 on another flex cable.
In short, i have One G2 "for parts" that has a broken flex cable, trying to fix another G2 with unresponsive touchscreen.

sounds like you answered your own question, unless you can fix the flex cable you will need to get a new one. the only other possibility (from what youre saying) is its a software problem, but i doubt it

Well I wanted to know if I could maybe replace just the flex cable part of the flex cable assembly. If not, then I will probably have to buy the whole thing

unless by "flex cable assembly" you mean separate the flex cable from the chassis, no you cant easily fix part of the flex, its all one massive cable

Yes, that is exactly what I meant. Damn.
Thank you. Now I'm off to buy a flex cable... woo...

so if you buy the flex seperate from the chasis it may be helpful to get some of the super thin 3m tape to adhere it. using standard tape (like scotch) is a pain. the 3m stuff is cheap, super thin, double sided, and you can get precut strips. its easy to find on ebay

Replacement LCD Ribbon/Flex Cable

Hey guys,
Long story short, I'm an idiot and have slightly torn my LCD flex cable.
Does anyone know if it's possible to repair or replace this cable without having to purchase a whole new LCD?
If they're replaceable, any suggestions on where I could purchase from?
Cheers.

I don't think this site has what you are looking for but I don't know the inside of the Atrix too well. It has 2 cables to choose from, maybe one will help.

It's impossible to change the Flex Cable of a LCD Screen. At least, that's what (at least) 20 electronic technicians said about changing the flex of a N97 screen to a Satio Flex cable - my last phone (now it's an Atrix).
So, I'm sorry, but I guess you'll have to get a new LCD.
- I'll search for an alternative.
Erich.

Good prices, but problem with GDP is they require at least 2x purchase of every item or a min $150 purchase... So not much good for the average user.

Thanks mate. You're right. Has 2 of 3, but unfortunately these are not the droids I'm looking for. I'm bookmarking that site though, as it's hard to find those other 2 flex cables. Cheers.

Hey Erich. Yeah, I think you might be right. After pulling my old LCD apart, i doubt anyone could attach a new cable without professional equipment and a brain surgeon steady soldering hand.
I've given up and ordered a new LCD.
Thanks everyone for your help though. Moral of the story, if you're gonna bust a cable, make sure it's one of the accessory cables instead.

[Q]

It looks like the ribbon cable running from the screen to the MB is flaking out on my Slide. I have experience taking phones apart so I'm not worried about that.
Does anyone know where to get another cable?
No?
Does anyone have a Slide that may be broken but has a good cable they would be willing to sell?
Try ebay. I had a slide, but the ribbon cable broke on it and I sold it for like $15 for parts.

Flex cable replacment

Recently my plays flex cablw bit the biscuit so I took it apart and removed the old flex. I got my new one im the mail the otherday and installed it with some trouble, as some of you may know the cable is very hard to feed through the small hole in the sliding tray.
My problem is that now the backlight only works on and off and the touchscreen wont function nothing is damaged. When I pushed the flex cable through I think I kinked it a bit maybe I ruined it? Here Is my question is there. Way to get the flex cable in without damage? Does the plastic. Connector on the cable come off? Any insight from people who have done this would help
NOW FOR MY last question is there a tougher flex cable out there I.can buy because In a few months to a year it will just break again.

[Q] Screen Digitizer not Responding?

My Xperia Play flex cable broke a month or two ago, and I didn't feel bothered to fix it. Everything was working before it broke.I left it disassembled, and each part in an anti-static bag in bubble-wrapped packaging. I recently bought a new flex cable off of eBay, and installed it into my XPlay. Everything was working fine with the exception of my touch screen. I remember that the touch screen was working flawlessly before i had replaced the flex cable.
Is there any way to check if the new flex cable is just malfunctioning or the digitizer is actually broken? (or could it just be a software issue?)

have you also checked if the slider flex (it manages digitizer, physical buttons, and LCD converge) is damaged...
Sorry for the off topic, but can you link me to where you bought your flex?
I'm stocking up just in case mine breaks again.
If it's possible, try flashing a stock FTF. Then there's also a case of old and new version flex cables, as described here-

[Q] Replacing USB port

Seems my USB port needs replacing, I first thought I may have had some lint or something inside there as it wouldn't charge but after checking with a flashlight one of the pins had bent completely.
The only thing I can find for the original desire is eBay ID 380759842289
Can anyone confirm if this is right, or where I could purchase one from the UK.
Are they hard to replace? Would it just be the case of removing the 2 lower t5 screws, taking the antenna out of way and then what? Are they soldered on or ribbon cable?
Cheers
I had a similar problem, my device couldn't connect via usb but it was able to charge, so my first thought was the same as yours (about the lint). I tried to clean it and I found something like a little wire which was out of its place.
I ordered a usb port (about 1.50 euros) for that model and I followed this guide on youtube to disassemble the device /watch?v=8sYB_AM_jHE
You have to dissolder the old one and then solder the new which is a little bit tricky. It Worked!
For the replacement parts you can search on ebay for htc desire g7 its the same or use google you will find a bunch of them.
