Hi
I was running the changed (No security setting enforcement) email/exchange apps on my Galaxy S2 connecting to a Lotus Notes Traveler without any problems.
After upgrading to the Note 2, I dicovered, that I cannot setup my traveler account anymore. Neither with the stock email app, not with the changed one from the S3 rom.
It says, that either my server details are wrong or the protocol version is not supported. I am thinking of protocol version, since when I change my password, it says password is wrong.
I tried copying the old Email.apk and Exchange.apk from the S2 without success. It wont even start on the Note2.
Two questions pop into my mind:
1. I saw in the forum, that HTC Sence users can enable debugging for the email app. Can we also do that?
2. Any chance, someone has a working Email.apk and Exchange.apk from another rom without security restrictions?
Thanks in advance
You could get "Enhanced Email" from the play store and try that, I used it for a while until a problem I was having got resolved when I changed email hosts. It's pretty much a stock email client, with benefits.

I used this to patch the APKs on the Note 2, working fine for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117452

thanks for the replies. enhanced mail doesnt work. it wouldnt let me enter an url like this: serverdns/servlet/traveler
the patch did work, but i get the same message as with the S3 email.apk
the protocol version is not supported.
with the S2 email.apk it worked. any possibility to get a detailed log from the app trying to connect?
Hi.
Did you manage to resolve this? I ask because I also need to connect to a Lotus Traveler server (Version: 8.5.3.3 Build 201209151353) via Exchange on my Galaxy Note 2 4G. I can do it fine on my Nexus 7 with no issues, but get the same error as you on the Note2.
Any solutions to post?
nope. unfortunately not.
i am getting a galaxy note 10 these days. lets see what the exchage app says there
Does anyone know ...
Does anyone know what causes these ActiveSync issues between the Android mobile device and the Traveler servers? Is it a Traveler server issue, Android OS issue, or an Android email app issue?
I am able to access my Lotus Notes corporate mail using an Exchange ActiveSync account on my iPad configured to point to a Traveler server. I haven't had any problems in 2 years of running this on my iPad. But, the Android experience has been unreliable at best including ghost syncs, lost mail that takes time to re-sync, battery drain while it spins. On my Galaxy Note 2, it seems to be an Android issue since I have no trouble on iOS, but, I'm not certain.
If anyone far smarter than me would mind explaining whats and whys, that would be appreciated.

Hi all,
I am trying out a Desire this weekend, in general like it. I have got the Exchange sync to work for mail, cal & contacts however if I try to access the Company Directory (GAL) or Search the Inbox I get nothing returned.
I downloaded TouchDown to test and this works fine. But I dont want to use a 3rd Party tool for email (or I could have got a Nexus).
Has anybody else seen this error before, or have any idea's? Other wise its mail if back Monday.
Thank for your help.
Peter
Nobody can help
So HTC say, remove the sync and re-create. Does nothing.
Company IT say there are no more settings to change.
Am I the only person that has seen this, I found one other when searching web, but nobody replied.....
As an alternative would look at a GAL address book viewer?
Any help would be great, newbie with the phone and forum.
Whats your Exchange Version? For me with Echange 2010 it works fine.

The OWA server and Exchange Server is 2007. Did you have issues in the past?
I have the same issue only with Exchange 2003 (we'll be moving to 2007 soon). Was chuffed to finally get my email working today (firewall and all that) and have realised I can't browse the GAL. Might try Touchdown (although I had installed it before - will it let me use it as a Trial again???)...

I and a colleague of mine have the same problem with Exchange 2003 SP2. GAL search works fine on other phones (i.e. the iPhone).
I've seen people report that it works for them though, so I have no clue what's wrong, but I have an open ticket with HTC on the issue.
Well l'm using touchdown at the moment and it appears to work really well. Everything I could want from a client. Need to see if it is worth $20 though before taking the plunge. HTC Mail is a bit limited in comparison. although the OP doesn't want to buy a third party app I would say that is one of the points of Android that if the stock app doesn't work you can get hold of an app that does...

Thanks for the feedback, I also opened a ticket. Seems like very few people have reported this as and issue they either get all or nothing syncing.

I tried Touchdown, the issuethat I have is that the calander is then not combined which I really do like as a feature, and as far as I can see I cant just use it for email and get it to link to the standard apps I have to use it for contacts and Cal as well.
Same for me. I am syncing mails, calendar and contacts without any problems. Only company directory does not work.
I think it is not a connection problem. It is always telling me that nobody could be found. That is even happening when network connections are disabled. So it seems if this tool does not even try to connect.
Thats interesting, I did not try turning off the comm's, so at least it points to a software issue then. More hope HTC might fix it.
I think there may be an issue with contacts lookup via GAL/ Exchange 2003 on HTC STOCK Mail app. nothing shows up.

I had the same problem running Exchange 2003
GAL becomes inaccessible if security profiles are enabled ("Enforce password on device", etc..) and "Allow access to devices that do not fully support password settings" is disabled.
A bad workaround is to enable "Allow access to devices that do not fully support password settings", but that may prevent you from remotely wiping some devices and prevent some devices from initializing security profiles.
A better workaround is to add your account to the exceptions list. Doing that will enable access to GAL but disable the exchange lock screen.
I believe this is happening because either Android 2.1 or HTC mail application either doesn't support Exchange security profiles completely, or doesn't report them correctly.
Hi all, we have a product that might be of interest to you called GALSync Server. Unfortunately I can't post a URL but I'm sure you can find it with a bit of Googling.
It works by sync'ing a copy of the GAL into selected users' Exchange mailboxes which ActiveSync or BES then syncs in turn to the user's device. Works with iPhone or Windows Mobile.
We love it.
But we would wouldn't we.
Thanks for your time!

Thanks for the heads up, however its not what I am looking for:
1. You dont support Android from what I can tell.
2. I have to get the company to set it up.
I was hoping to either fix the HTC sync or an app on the handset that can get access.
Thanks
Agree with baronb. HTC needs to fix this issue. Corp IT Administrators will not make exceptions to their security settings. Also, I know from using Touchdown by Nitrodesk that it does, and CAN work.

I talked with HTC hot desk who were not very helpful and seemed to have lost my previous information. They said I should wait for an update!
At this point I am starting to look at alternatives as the lack of GAL for me while on the road was an issue last week.
Is there any more info on this one? I am having this bug too and it is the only thing stopping me from recommending the Desire as a suitable phone for my company to use for all staff right now!
Nothing, yet will bug Hotdesk again this week. The more people to log the error maybe the faster they will fix it.....+44 8458900079

Thanks for that. Will get myself on the phone later!
I just got a galaxy nexus. put on jellybean and touchdown won't work. ive installed it so many time i know my settings are correct and im getting a green light on the activesync server. and I have push enabled but when you force a sync it just rolls through the folders but nothing gets downloaded onto phone from exchange. I'm getting no failure messages of any kind. it always shows a successful sync but nothing shows up. does anyone know else I can do. I don't like using the exchange mail server because it does not have the features i need that touchdown has.
Touchdown works great for me and I am using jelly bean on my vzw nexus. I would guess there is something wrong in your touchdown settings

Anyone know if the aosp email will work on the Note 2? If you got it working can you point me to a link or the procedure?
My wife just got this phone and the stock email app seems to not like to push email to her phone from her hotmail exchange account. She will go a long time without an email and get curious and open the Note 2's email app and get like 12 emails all at once since the app also refreshes when opened.
She is very against switching to using Gmail which is the first thing most people say. I have already tried getting her to switch or forward her emails to Gmail. I had installed the AOSP email app on her previous phone (EVO Shift) and she liked it and it worked properly so I thought I might try it on her new phone but the only procedure seems to be for the AT&T version (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1991908&page=2) which I assume will be the same but who knows what carriers change. Just wanted to know if any Sprint users have successfully done it.
Thanks
Try these apk's, if they don't install let me know......

Just an observation with regards to Exchange support on these releases.
My S3 came with ICS like most others on this site and I had a persistent issue with Exchange telling it it "wasn't connected" as it simultaneously proceeded to get my mail.....
I was PO'd at it, but found a 4.1.1 ROM (BlackJelly), which I flashed and, low and behold, mail worked perfectly! Great I thought!
Yesterday I decided to give CM 10.1 a shot. Wiped the device, installed the ROM and immediately had a very similar issue with Exchange. To confirm that it wasn't just the mail app, I downloaded CM 10.0 stable, flashed it, and mail worked perfectly.
The symptoms of the mail issue are:
1. Deleted messages on the phone do not disappear from the inbox.
2. You may see a "can't connect to server" or something to this effect periodically in the mail client
3. Mail "push" behaviour is irrattic and may not work at all.
Since I'm using Exchange 2003, these observations are exclusive to that platform. I'm not sure whether 2007 is effected by the same problem.
It would appear as though whatever was broken in ICS, then fixed for JB 4.1.x is now broken again in 4.2.1.
Hmmm...not saying this is your problem and I'm running from an Exchange 2007 server, but I had very similar issues on ICS and JB 4.1.1 (could not always connect, flags didn't transfer). After I visited our IT department, they said I was using an old server address that didn't have proper authentication. They put it the new one and it's worked perfectly since.
What alerted me was that it worked perfectly on data, but had issues on WiFi. Any differences on your end? No need to test if you're fine being on BlackJelly; I'm just curious, haha.
Also, CM is AOSP-based, while BlackJelly is TW-based, IIRC. I've read somewhere that Exchange certification/compatibility is expensive and Samsung licenses it for their phones, but on the other hand, AOSP doesn't license Exchange compatibility. That doesn't explain why ICS wouldn't work (presumably you were on stock TW?), though...

Well, I'm the Exchange admin, so I'm pretty sure I'm using the right address
I should probably clarify a little.
It works fine on IOS devices.
It worked fine on the stock ICS ROM that came on my phone and all of the updates until the last one before JB. IE, the last ICS update that Samsung rolled out broke Exchange in the manner depicted.
At this point, I rooted the phone, installed JB and bam, all was working perfectly again. It continued to work fine on every release of BlackJelly. And this is for both WiFi and 3G/4G, behaviour is normal.
Getting an interest in 4.2.1, I grabbed the M release of CM 10.1 and flashed that. Immediately I noticed I was having an Exchange issue that was similar to the one I was having with the last release of ICS pushed from Rogers. Wanting to ensure that it was the ROM, I wiped and flashed CM 10, which worked perfectly fine.
So I wiped the phone and went back to BlackJelly.

Disable HTML email. That is broken for 2003 Exchange.

It appears to work fine in the 4.1.1 releases.........
And that doesn't explain "push" mail not working in ICS or 4.2.1.
I found the info in the Enhanced Email forum.
I posted that all my accounts were fine except for my Live account.
The dev told me to disable HTML. So I did, and suddenly my Live started working properly again. The problem is only in 4.2 ROM's and Exchange 2k3 afaik. I never had the problem on 4.1.1 or 4.1.2.
Push works fine in my Hotmail & Gmail accounts.
And now in my Live also, after disabling HTML emails.

Just so I understand this correctly:
You were having the EXACT same issue as me? Push wasn't working, but fetch was (Exchange 2003 account) and deleted items were not disappearing out of your desktop Inbox when you deleted them from the phone? And disabling HTML mail fixed this?
Wiped and re-installed 4.2.1 again and magically it works properly????? WTH?????
Anyway, looks like problem solved itself......
I have just upgraded my note 2 to android 4.3, and Kies 3. I am not able to sync since this upgrade, and I get a message ( make outlook your default email client) It already is!. Has anyone got their Note 2 sync working with this setup, or is it just not possible anymore?
All replies would be most welcome.

If you mean sync with Kies i think almost nobody is using it and thats why you got no replies , i wish i could help you but i am not using Kies but you can search play store for an email or contact sync alternative if thats what you need .

Kies was working perfectly up to the upgrade to version 3, I am sure their must be other people in a similar situation. If there really is no chance of getting it working again then I will look for an alternative or just change my phone which may be the best solution.
Changing a phone over such a small issue , anyway samsung doesn't make great software and your kies maybe bugged so try reinstaling it or going tru troubleshooting in the app.

Seems to be a known problem. See this thread
Samsung Galaxy S 4 i9500, i9505, i9505G, i9506 > Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting > [Q] Galaxy S4 + Android 4.3 + Kies 3 - No Outlook Sync

I have this issue with my UK O2 stock GT-N7100 as I use Outlook app to manage hotmail spam folder and it no longer refreshes. Only change was update to 4.3.
I just bought a new laptop and did not buy a Samsung because of this sort of poor support.
Cheers
Tom
P.S. I switched to Aquamail using IMAP and deleted Outlook app.

There have been some upgrades to Kies 3, and now it works perfectly, if you have not tried, do it now.
