Another battery life thread, they are justified! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Ok, I will keep this short. I have had my GNEX for a couple months now and have been on a quest for the best battery life I can get. My boss has the Razr (not the MAXX!) and when we travell together, he can go all day with plenty of battery left. Granted he is on stock and I am rooted but I usually underclock to squeeze more out.
Anyways, with that said and that this is going to be short...
I search and search and search and search and search, you get the point, for threads where this is being discussed. All I EVER find is people talking some ish about Pandas die or something and the mods close it because they say "yes there is a best one, its the one that works for you". Serioiusly? WTF. What does that gain us, besides everyone (the ones on the outside looking in and the ones on the inside looking out alike) wasting their time.
With that said, here is my point. I understand that everyone has different scenarios for what is going on and everyone has different agendas. But for most people here, they have had their phones long enough to use the same apps, do the same stuff day in and day out that when THEY try different ROMs they can report their findings. Like me for example I have had my best results with AOKP but I only tried Liquid and Xenon other than that and only Leankernel and Trinity so far. Now if someone else came along and said they saw THEIR best battery life on ROM X and Kernel Y and they tried my combination, it would give me a jump start. After all isnt that the point of a community? Besides people beating their chests about pandas?

Rofl, pandas die. Also, this has been done many times in the past, everyone totes different combinations. It's almost pointless, the only reason you don't see all sorts of opinions on these threads it's because people recognize how much of a waste of time it is. I cannot tell you how much "you're mileage may vary" actually comes into play here. You just have to flash what you want to use, and often times, the effect of ROM on battery life does nothing but you perceive it as being helpful, because you enjoy the experience of the ROM, this "placebo" effect also haunts the forums. So the only thing you can be sure of, is when your battery life it's considerably worse than before, just wipe, flash new rom/kernel and try again.

The reason he can go all day is because his phone has an extended battery. I think its like 3000mah or something. If you have the gsm version its only 1750 do the math of course his going to out last yours. There is no best ROM for battery. Or kernel. Its how you configure said ROM or kernel. If you want a setup to go buy visit the link in my SIG about my Franco setup. I get relatively great battery life as anyone that knows me will tell you. Also manage your networks. Do you toggle data when not in use? Do you have things syncing? How often? What apps are running in the foreground as well as the background?

1) the razr screen is not the same as the GN. there are more pixels per inch on the GN than the razr.
2) you can never have the best combination. every phone is different. my verizon gnex i had cant handle overclocking past 1.4Ghz. ive seen threads on this forum where people have gotten to 1.8Ghz.
what works for you, will not always work for me and vice versa.

Go to location settings and uncheck Google's location service and GPS satellites. Open app drawer and navigate to the settings widget, long press to put on homescreen, select Location services when prompted for widget type (so that you can quickly turn those on for Maps or Navigation.
Presto, decrease idle battery draw from 2 to 3% per hour to 2% every three hours.

HELP me before I switch to an iPhone

This thing is reallllyyy pissing me off. Before people say "are you happy now, see ya later, or the iPhone sucks"
Their are serious issues with the Android OS and the Battery is the main problem with the EVO.
Now if someone can give me a fix for this I would greatly appreciate it and continue to love using my phone again but untill then Every little thing is going wrong with this phone to make me want to switch.
Here it is:
I am NOT rooted! I have 4G turned off, WIFI, bluetooth, and GPS turned off, I also have the screen brightness set to automatic. I have no widgets on the home screen that require an internet connection, and have all syncing turned off, on everything! that includes contacts, facebook, mail (stock and gmail) weather, and news.
I even have "enable always-on mobile data" turned off.
I am currently using Launcher Pro, but was using ADW launcher before that and then stock 2.1 android (no sense turned on, on all of them)
My battery barely makes it 8 hours without being on low.
under the battery category, for the past week or so plus, I havent really checked into that, So i can't tell you when it started, as been on 100%
So my uptime and my awake time have been the same.
I have turned the phone on and off 5 times already, used a task killer, turned on airplane mode, and no dice.
The only definite fix, is going one by one and deleting an app, turning the phone on and off, and looking at battery usage, I have easily 25 apps and that will take forever. Or doing a hard reset, something I do not want to waste my time doing again, reconfiguring my phone, and reinstalling a bunch of apps and settings.
An example of todays usage, I am not exagerating any of this.
I unplugged it at 10:30 AM, 25 total text messages (going in an out) no phone calls, 4G was on and connected for a total of 2 Minutes.
Now I know if you leave 4G on and you are not connected it kills the battery, but I had it off, turned it on for 2 Minutes because I was in chicago, and wanted to see how fast it was ran 3 speed tests, and turned it off.
I refreshed my email 4 times, That means opening up the mail app, clicking menu and refresh, same thing with facebook, refreshed my news feed 5 times. and at 6:30
I have 2 out of the 5 bars left.
That is absolutely rediculous, I am past my 30 day return time.
An OS that allows certain apps to keep the phone on and make the battery life horrible is rediculous.
This is a list of all apps I have both from the market and off:
advanced task killer
AK notepad
akari
astro
better cut
betterkeyboard
dictionary.com (offical App)
facebook
find my phone
Flikie wallpaper
fox news
handcent sms
keeper
leet speak
live scores
memory trainer
news and weather (from nexus one, but refreshing is on manual)
pass phrase
pda net
picsay pro
qik
ringroid
shazam
speedtest
status notes
texas hold em
tip calculator
tv listings
urban dictionary
zedge
I have notice one thing tho with launcherpro, for some reason when I go into an app or hold down the home button to bring up the multitasking 6 app menu, and then click home after, the setting to come up that asks which home launcher I want
HTC sense or Launcherpro
comes up all the time, like 10 times a day, and I always click choose this action for default and click launcher pro and sure enough after opening a couple apps, and clicking home the box will come up, may be that has something to do with the battery I dont know tho.
If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate, and you would save an evo from being thrown into a wall.
thanks.
Try out CM6 and I guarantee you'll never even think about an iphone again.
Like he said above.. Root and get cm6.. I can go 2 days easy regular use..

can you post a link to which one you are talking about, because I looked up on android Development and it said the cyanmod or what ever it was was not very stable, so I don't know about that.
And if the iPhone is such a terrible phone, why should I have to root my phone and install a custom ROM in in order for it to work properly, IOS 4 does not have that.
The key is in data if your not using mobile data then use the widget to turn it off til you need it. Or root and flash a custom rom. They have better battery life hands down

Because i don't have to wrap my phone in Rubber or Duct Tape it for it to make a phone call or maintain a data connection. You were just asking to get flamed by posting this. If you wan't help from people around here, bashing Android and saying "IOS 4 has no problems!!!" isn't going to be your best option.
P.S. Stock Android 2.1 or even Sense UI crushes IOS 4. Maybe it's not the phone....maybe it's the user.
You didn't specifically say that you had Google talk signed out. Turn off auto sign in on that app and it makes a huge difference.

I didn't see anyone mention this, not that it's going to be your issue but it could be something to check.
I recall a friend having a severe battery issue and it turned out the stock calendar program was preventing his phone from hibernating and thus being on constantly.
Just something to try, I hope you find out what's up soon. Also not sure if you have a spare battery, but sometimes you can get a dud and the only way to test that is try another battery.
Seriously, if you think iOS4 is better than Android then that's the phone you need. You pretty much just wasted everyone's time with all that.
While I would agree that if you want to get dramatically improved battery life, your best bet is to root it and flash a custom rom, Even when my phone was stock it got much better battery life than yours seems to be getting. I actually ran my phone for for weeks stock, not rooted, so I would have a good baseline of experience when I did start to customize it.
Typically, my phone would last about 10-14 hours before needing to be recharged. That would be with slightly more usage than you indicate, and with data and gps always on, but 4g off, as I don't live in a 4g area.
Now that I am rooted, and am running Fresh 1.0.1 and the fps fix kernel, and a battery saver setcpu profile, the same use gives me more than 50% charge left after running 14-16 hours off the charger.
Personally, it sounds to me like you might have a defective battery. As one of the previous posters said, I would recommend you try the instructions in one of the battery life threads here and if that didn't work, I would take it to the Sprint repair center.

iphone isn't a terrible phone, it just doesn't compare to an EVO.
anything iphone can do, the evo can do - and do it better.
no need to be on wi-fi for a video chat!
Why would you buy a 4.3 inch screen....4g.... and expect awesome battery? Yes it could be better but come-on....if you didn't expect it to have bad battery life....?????????? That's all I can say I just don't understand...android phones normally have bad battery life on top of all that....

I'm having the same issues as you except that I am rooted. Have an underclocked phone and Baked Snack 9.7
I'm really beginning to think that the people that claim to get 14+ hours of battery life is just a bunch of bs. I do exactly what they do and i get no where near the 18 hours some users claim to get. And for the people bashing the iphone, its not a bad phone, and almost everyone that invests $200 in a phone get a case anyway. And no i'm not bashing the Evo either. Battery life just sucks on it.

No offense, but it seems like you kind of made up your mind already on what you want to do. Iphone 4 is a good phone, but honestly, it gets boring after about a week, if that. Android is so much fun. You don't have to root your phone for it to work properly. Do some research into why batteries drain really fast with this phone. You do realize how big the screen is right? lol. I''l give you ups and downs of both phones.
Iphone 4-
Good
Nice looking phone, OS is smooth, apps.
Bad
Got to watch where you hold it, AT&T (they don't have unlimited data plan), not very much to do with Iphone
Evo
Good
Big screen, Sprint, camera, don't have to be on wi-fi for video calling, fully customizable, even more so if you root it. There are more but tired of typing!
Bad
Battery
Thats just my opinion though. I would have more bad things to say about it if not for Cyanogen. Its like an overgrown Nexus now! Sorry for the long post. lol. If you have any questions on how to root or anything feel free to send me a message or whatever.

[Q] Kernel Advice for a CM Noob!

Alrighty,
So, to make a long story short, I had been using Fresh Evo rom since about September/October. About 2 weeks ago, I went to upgrade my rom, and through multiple poor decisions and sheer stupidity, I bricked my phone. Anyways, new phone arrives, gets fixed, etc. I root and install CM7. I've been using it since Friday, and I very much like it. However, I do seem to be having a slight problem. I feel as if my battery is draining a lot faster than it was when I was using my 2.2 Fresh rom. I am planning on doing the battery stats wipe later on tonight. Anyways, to my question: What kernel options are there for CM7 AOSP Roms? I'm am woefully ignorant on the subject, and the searching I've done on the subject has left me more or less confused.
Many thanks,
To make it short and sweet, the best/ popular options are now:

My savior from my brick thread! Thank you! Follow up question: I was reading part of the Savaged-zen thread in the android development section and people were talking about SBC charging. Some of the stuff I've read has made it seem like it is a dangerous type of charging, while other are getting absolutely absurd amounts of life out of their batteries while using it
So... is it a SBC kernel? Is it worth risking messing up the battery? Any thoughts/suggestions/comments are much appreciated.

-Cape flaps in the wind- I have returned!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894880 Best info on kernels.
Personally, I don't use SBC because 1: It can make your phone laggy at times, which is annoying 2: It can and has proven to be bad for the battery, in terms of leaking/exploding on people. Yes people have gotten ridiculous [not gona lie] nice battery on it, because it pushes lower voltages at time to get the max charge, so it actually takes longer to charge, but holds it longer. Great in the short run, bad in long term, but again, I personally wouldn't recommend it.
Hmm... A lot to think about. I'm using the default CM kernel right now. I pulled my phone off the charger at work around 2:30. I was using Wifi tether until 3:00. I've made a few phone calls, sent about a dozen texts, browsed around on facebook and what not. Found out that facebook was eating up my phone with 40 minutes of partial wake usage, made some adjustments so facebook *hopefully* won't do that again. Was at about 70% Rebooted the phone. I'm currently at 68% at 5:15. My room is also in a basement, so I'm sure my signal strength is fairly poor and that probably isn't helping either. Still, I feel like I'm going through this battery a little too quick for my tastes.
Maybe I'm going to have to look into getting the Seido 3500 battery, and cover, and car holster >.>
I'm going to try to give it a few days. I just did a battery stat reset, so I'm going to let it die, recharge, then see how it pans out. In the meantime--I'm thinking about checking out Savaged-zen. Maybe read through those 200 pages of posts :-\
Well give it a few days to settle in, and wifi tether is definately a power drainer, even for me and all users. I typically only use it when things get bad enough and i need to get on xbl, or download torrents slowly, cuz I'm at school >>. Also the spotty signal area definably doesn't help either. And if you check out the OP page, the first couple, and the last few, you should be okay. I'm having good life on the Tiamat kernel personally. Also, you can change your governor to smartass or conservative, both yield good battery life.

[Q] Best ROM for Skype?

Hi all
I'm so sick of switching ROMs on my EVO 4G!! My battery life seems to suck no matter which ROM I try. I've tested my battery; it's fine. What I'd like is to be able to use Skype (just chatting; rarely use voice on Skype) with my EVO and get more than 3 hours battery life. I don't use Skype constantly; just want to be able to use the phone for more than a few hours before it becomes a paperweight!
Right now, pretty much as soon as I log into Skype on the EVO the batt drops to 80% and continues to drop every 30 min or so. Forget web browsing or texting; that kills it so fast it's dead in 2 hours.
I'm running Deodexed 4.24.651.1 and have tried Cyanomod, Baked Snack, Stock rooted and they all suck for battery life with Skype.
Maybe I need a different kernel?
Any ideas???
Thanks in advance!

Maybe because it's Saturday. I'm surprised they haven't jumped on you for posting this in this section. None of the roms that are gingerbread will have the life you had on 2.2 unless the code gets released and the guys that make kernels can make new ones. Battery life on the roms vary but if it means alot you should try Calkulin's rom. He has an undervolting script built in that may work for you. If you flash a kernel from the 2.2 roms you might get better battery life but something will break in the rom, ie camera.
Awesome development work dude!!!!!! Cant wait to try it out. Where's the download link??
My first idea would be posting in the correct section, or, it sucks that Skype and battery life blow on this rom you developed.
Since that is over, are you wiping properly with a formatall.zip? Are you making sure to flash the correct kernels with the corresponding rom? Are you restoring any data with titanium backup?
Move this to the q&a and you will get the information you are looking for.

I thought you had to have 10 posts before you could post in the dev section?
simple answer - skype though awesome also sucks.
for example just think about a laptop. my 7 hr macbook pro dies in under 2 hrs when i'm video or phone chatting on skype... shouldn't the same be expected for a cell? you're getting 3 hours, albeit only chatting as you say, but skype has been and remains a highly demanding application which although is convenient and widely used IMO is poorly written considering it's cpu and battery drainage. compared to simple web based google chat w/ video I get far superior battery life. like i said, my opinion, my experience. and yes as mentioned, try undervolting or SBC kernels or both. My EVO has ranged from stock settings 5 hr life to deck's w/ tiamat sbc + vipermod approx 40 hours (the 40 was when it was honestly just idle most of the time, occasional call or text a little bit of browsing, i was sick so on laptop mostly- although typical moderate daily use I would still be above 20% before plug in before sleep)
as long as you mentioned it, anyone happen to know a stable skype apk with video that was pulled? i've tried different sources and a bunch of my usual roms and I either get only back camera for a little then crashing or front camera green fuzziness and crash instantly.
Why is it I needed like 10 posts to post here but this guy can ask questions like this with 6 posts? WTF?

First off, I apologize for this being here. I THOUGHT I was posting in the Q & A threads so please don't be snarky. I had the other thread open in another browser tab going back and forth looking for input. How it got accepted I don't know; as I said I thought it was going into the QA area. Sorry.
To altman, yes; I am doing a complete format/wipe and only restoring essentials via Titanium.
To 'crammed', try Tango; it's decent video chat, is free and is soon to be released for desktops too so cell to pc video chat will work. Tango is nice that it lets you utilize both front/rear facing cams (and did I mention it's free?). The big problem is trying to chat with folks who don't have cell access/unlimited minutes who need a desktop option like Skype, which is why I use it. With family in Poland and UK, Skype's the best way to stay connected for free for me but again, they don't have the same cellular access/plans so it's not possible to do cell to cell.
Thanks for the input
OP created his/her account before the 10 post restriction went into effect. The change was not retroactive.
tango is cool....i also use ClearSea...it's got the pc support so you can video chat between cell and pc...works pretty nice over 3g...
just an idea....
Decks 1.2.1 stable ROM in "advanced settings" in settings go to performance, go to VM heap set to 48
Savaged Zen 2.2.1 cfs SBC kernel
Battery calibration (market app) follow in app instructions
Setcpu (market app) my settings are 1152 Max 245 min savagedzen governor
Download rom manager and run fix permissions
Let it all sit 3 days, takes kernel that long to set and battery life gets better after a few full charges
I get great battery life. I get upwards of 20 hours easy and I use my phone heavily so, hopefully this will help
Next time please post your questions in the q and a section, dev is for someone who has something they have developed for the community to use. Thanks

You guys sound like he should be hanged for posting here. Lol people make mistakes, it isn't that big of an issue.
If battery life is an issue for you, you have a few options. You can jump to CM7 or Evo Deck and set them up properly. With either of those, you can flash a nice kernel and set clock speeds accordingly. Battery life is going to suck on any 2.3.3 Rom right now, because developers have no access to the source code for the kernel. HTC is taking their sweet time.
However, you can also look into extended batteries. I have a one I found on ebay for about $16, and it's wonderful. The phone has a little bulk now, but I am currently sitting at 16.25 hours off the charger, and I'm at 32%. This is also on Synergy currently, so there is no custom kernel or anything in use.
Just a few thoughts.

+1. It's easy to screw up when you've been up all night downloading and flashing the newest versions of your favorite ROMs or desperately seeking the answers you need. No need to grab your torches once the first 14 people have cried "wrong section" (most of whom then offer advice afterward, enabling much?)

Why is it that someone felt it necessary to bump a post that clearly was ignored by everyone and put on the second or third page just to flame someone?
This thread went unnoticed with no replies for over an hour and yet someone felt that necessary.
That **** is just as bad as posting in the wrong section, if not worse.
i have been a member of this forum for about a year now. and as you can tell i have very few posts. The ones i do are simply to say thanks to someone who made an awesome rom/kernel/etc. I spend most of the time searching for the answers im looking for. perhaps if you looked in the right section and researched a bit before you continuously flashed your phone you would know what is going on with it.
gotta love people that just jump of the cliff because the guy in front of did...
Check out my sig, AOSP setup would probably help you with battery life. Current radios too

Can you elaborate on this a little? I don't necessarily wanna bump this thread, but being a Comp. Sci. major, this seems odd to me.. What does it mean for a kernel to 'set'?
Or are you talking about the collection of data for the accurate battery reading (batters stats)?

Thanks for the tip. I wasn't directing the 10 post mark at you btw, more at moderators/XDA in general. My first account was locked for "spamming" I presume to get 10 posts whereas I actually spent hours answering ppl's questions in the q & a but I guess the short time frame wasn't liked. But I digress, I'm not so in need for cell to cell as much as a nice universal cell to cell/desktop cross platform and unfortunately skype is the most popular. My girlfriend as well as many friends/relatives also don't have the latest phones so the cell to desktop is wanted. for now I'm just sticking to gtalk, with isn't without it's errors either.

... Kernel to set meaning it takes a bit for it to settle down to the way it will normally function, call it "breaking it in" or like how you gotta drive a car a few thousand miles before your performance and MPG are where the manufacturer claims itll be... Yeah I kinda like the second analogy, go me!
Frequent flashing or flashing too soon sort of doesn't give the rom or kernel a chance because they haven't stabilized, often why some people praise while at the same time others curse a rom/kernel. Myself included :/ yikes. I found that to be true when deck was held up on his updates for almost a week and my phone was amazing, but I updated and went back into the loop of constant flashing so keep that in mind, if you're set on giving s rom and kernel a shot, give it at least a few days of the kind of use you NORMALLY would. If you're playing with it all day and it dies don't call it shotty battery life until you keep it in your pocket most of the day during the week. Not trying to berate anyone, I've done these same things myself, patience is a virtue after all.

I DID research the ROMs extensively; that's why I'm frustrated. I've tried so many after reading about how great they are. I'm not saying they AREN'T great either, just not working where I live. There's no 4G coverage already and 3G is spotty. Even if I don't load Skype at all I can't get 8 hours off my EVO before it dies.
When you rely on your phone for business like I do, even without Skype at all, you gotta be able to get through a normal workday or the phone's a pretty paperweight and not much else. Right now, I HAVE to plug it in at work or it won't last 8 hours and that just sux.

[Q] Frustrated newbie needs help

About eight months ago I traded in my Verizon BlackBerry for a Droid Incredible 2, but I still have a LOT to learn, so please bare with me
When I got my Inc2 I immediately got it rooted & flashed with a LOT of help as it took numerous steps and two days to complete. So from day one I've been using Skyraider Zeus, and have really enjoyed it. But recently the battery icon has started turning red with an exclamation point. After having been told by a number of people that this sounded like a battery issue, so I purchased a new battery. Unfortunately that didn't solve the issue. It was then suggested that I flash a new ROM to see if that would fix it. I assumed it would, to an extent, since most ROM's use different battery icon images.
So I traded (begrudgingly) my beloved Skyraider Zeus this weekend for ViperINC 1.3.1. Unfortunately I only used this ROM about 24-hours because I could no longer use wireless tether, which for me was a deal-breaker
I then traded ViperINC for Magnolia 2.1.1, which I very much liked because it was so similar to Skyraider Zeus, and I was once again able to use my wireless tether. Unfortunately I started experiencing the red battery icon issue again, as well as it would not allow me to connect my Google account, thus preventing me from using a lot of features.
So last night I went back to the nandroid backup from over the weekend and am now back to my beloved Skyraider Zeus *SMH*
All this having been said, I have two questions....
First... does anyone have an idea of what could be causing the issue with the battery icon turning red?
Second... can anyone recommend a ROM similar to Skyraider Zeus that can handle my excessive use (email, web, SMS & voice), that supports wireless tether and (if possible) allows me to take screenshots (preferably from the power button like Skyraider)? Oh, and the fewer steps to flash, the better LOL!
Thanks in advance to those who reply!!

It means the phone can't read the battery information (charge level, temperature, etc)... I would first try pulling out the battery and checking the contacts on the battery and the phone. If they are bent or messed up, return the phone to stock and take it back to Verizon for a replacement.

I had a number of people suggest it was a battery issue, but cleaning the contacts didn't solve it, so I just got a new battery. But even with the new battery it still happens. I've had days where it barely happens at all, and then I have days where it will stay red almost all day. So I'm thinking it isn't a battery issue at all, but instead is something with the device itself. Which is why I tried a new ROM over the weekend, but again the issue persisted.
Also, I purchased the device outright from someone, so taking it into Verizon isn't an option. That is why I am hoping someone will know how I can fix it since it doesn't appear to be the battery or the ROM causing it
Thanks again!
Your problem definitely sounds like a hardware issue. It could be as simple as a lose connection on the back side of the battery contacts inside your phone. If it isn't negatively affecting the phone's actual battery life and you don't want to crack open the case, you may just have to accept it's imperfection.
As for Rom suggestions... In all honesty, if SkyRader works for you, stick with it. It really is one of the most complete, thorough, and fully functionl GB-basd Sense Roms available for the phone. You could give UKB Evolution a try. But being ICS-based will lend to some "quirks" that may or may not dissuade you from using it.
My wife's phone has the same issue and it is stock unrooted. If memory serves me correctly doesn't skyraider have the option to hide the battery from the status bar? If so just hide it so you don't see it and maybe get a battery widget. The widget may not work either. My wife's phone works fine so it doesn't appear to affect it. And I agree with the above statement that skyraider is hard to beat. As far as gingerbread sense it is my go to rom. I always keep it on my phone in case my phone acts up and I need something dependable.

It's hard to say if it's having a negative affect or not. My battery has drained like crazy since day one, but I don't know if it's a normal amount of battery drain or not, nor do I know what causes it. I am a heavy user at times, but there are still those days where it seems to drain much quicker than it should in my opinion. All I do know is when compared to my old BlackBerry, this device is as bad and even sometimes worse when it comes to battery drain.
As far as ROM's go, I think I will just stick with Skyraider unless something really catches my eye, especially since the whole process really isn't all that fun for me LOL!
Thanks again!!

I don't honestly know if it can be hid or not to tell you the truth. But it isn't that it bothers me, it just concerns me is all. Especially when I started looking into possible causes and had even the most Android knowledgeable people I know stumped. But it doesn't appear that there is any cut and dry explanation for it, so I guess all I can do is wait hope whatever it is doesn't get worse.
In the meantime I will be sticking with Skyraider. It was nice having a different appearance for the weekend, but it sure wasn't worth all the function that was lost.
Thanks again!!
Its probably hardware but you might try clearing battery stats in recovery. That will probably not do anything but it won't hurt. For full functionality if you want something different try cm7 or the gb miui.

We have 2 DI2 - one has been running SR Zeus continuously (95% of the time) for 15+ months with no issues, with light usage & minimal mobile data/3G - get 3 days+ of standby as it's mostly on voice calls. Mine has been flashed with variety of Roms sourced from XDA, been running lately on HTCI2-MROM based on CM7, battery life is a notch better or equal to SK Zeus - otherwise, it runs on the following Stock Sense Rom, which has nice tweaks - very similiar and as good as Zeus, if not better. It has given me good battery / standby time - average of 2 to 3 days, 25 to 30 hours if I'm really pushing it (tethering, GPS, video streaming, etc.)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1219471
What Recovery are you using - as others suggested, it could be hardware issues (loose connection/dropped or even (*gasp*) water-damaged pre-owned device that you are now holding, especially with a brand new/fresh battery & HTC's OEM batteries are very good, my old HTC Ozone running Windows 6 is still holding a great charge with its original battery after 4 years.
I would suggest letting the battery drain and fully charge it, go into Recovery & wipe battery stats and use it normally - let it run and stablize for 2 or 3 cycles with the new battery, and see how it go. Keep the "old" battery charged as a spare and carry it with you for the next few days so that you won't be holding a paperweight.
Assumed you are on the CDMA/Verizon side and not using GSM bands - are you using mostly WiFi or 3G, or a mix of both signals - as all of these do affect (depending on signal strength) your battery life, and that your PRL (*228 option 2) are updated on a regular basis. Running background Apps such as FB, Twitter, etc. also do affect how much usable time you get on a charge, as you know.
Have you tried fixing permissions? Could be the issue.

Good touchwiz rom?

Hello all, I am looking for a touchwiz rom that has full capability and has great battery life. I have tried synergy, but it doesn't play nice with the AT&T S3 for me. What are some other ones that you guys recommend? Thanks.
No one can determine the best ROM for you as we all have different needs for our phones. Additionally, each phone may react to every ROM differently. My advice would be to try out as many as you can.
This link can be a good place to start researching.

Ya you're right. But I'm just asking what people prefer. I'm looking for one that runs like stock, maybe some mods here and there, with performance increases/better battery life.

The link I provided should be a good point of reference for gauging people's thoughts on ROMs. Reading and trying them yourself is honestly the only way to know.
try roms is all you can do. personally I like wicked v8. I give roms a one strike and youre out rule. if one thing doesnt work good enough for my needs its gone. I wanted to like synergy but it gave me a few issues. maybe I will wait a month or two and see what else comes. ive had great success with wicked and devils reject roms. I have friends using intergalactic and it also seems good for them. my battery life is better than ever on wicked but of course it all comes down to usage and tuning. most important to choose a rom that works.
I like CSROM. The battery life is great and you have good aroma install options for things like aosp messaging and email. It has good mods like tethering, toggles, etc. Also very good support from the Dev and others in the development thread.
I was looking for same thing dude actually I'm still looking.I have been try Synergy and CSROM but they are not what exactly I want . Synergy has really cool staff but they got a lot of issues with SGH-i747 simultaneously. I was trying to install Synergy rom it took my 3-4 hours beacuse I couldn't fix every problem with Snynergy after than I found a fixing uptade file and a kernel it started work okey but it still had bugs. I just decided to try another.
Now I'm using CSROM they don't have a lot of cool thing like synergy . They have some diffrent touchwizz from Sony and Motorola. They have multiwinow but my battery is working sucks . I have 2 battary but I have to get charge 2 times in a day it's mean 4 charge for a single battery.I'm not sure about all this things I'm just saying my experiance. Maybe I could do something wrong but they are my opinion try anotherone except those ::highfive:
Make a nandroid of stock and your IMEI, then flash and try them all !
Devils reject and csrom are my favorites as far as twiz roms

Every phone is different. Every user is different. While a rom may work great on one person's phone it may be the opposite for yours...even with the exact same specs and hardware. The opposite can be true for other roms. And the way you use the phone differs as well. There is no "....is the best rom.". If you are not happy with the current ROM, then try another.
I'll give you three of the best IMHO that I've used extensively.
#1 Xtremperia by Jovy23
#2 Darthstalker X1 by Jovy23
#3 Deadly Venom 3.0 by Venom
All three are bug free and extremely stable with excellent battery life. I use the Ziggy kernel with all three.
At this point I'm running Hyperdrive multiview w/ Ziggy and I have Synergy w/Ziggy as my back up.
Yes they both have minor bugs but are easily fixable.
That being said the VERY first thing I would and this comes from an expensive lesson I learned BACK UP YOUR IMEI FIRST!!!! If I've helped please hit the thanks button and happy flashing.

The other reply covered it pretty good as it's different for everyone. I see a lot of people posting about battery life and I would suggest the following. Charge your battery to 100% before you go to bed. Take it off the charger and then just let it sit overnight. When you get up, check the battery stats and see if it goes into deep sleep, meaning it wasn't awake when the screen was off during the night. If you see more than a few times where it was awake, you probably have wakelock issues. If so, use Better Battery Stats to find out what's going on. Sometimes its the media scanner hanging up on a pic or vid that isn't playing nice, sometimes it's something else.
I have my mail synced 24/7 as well as contacts and calendar. I play games for about 10 minutes a clip throughout the day and browse xda and google news and I get about 20 hours with 2-3 hours screen on time.

I am new to Rom flashing. Been experimenting with the AOSP and AOKP Roms but keep coming back to TouchWiz based Roms...Currently I am running Stockorama V2...Has a Aroma installer and tons of options...Still minimalistic in size...I completely wiped the stock Rom off my phone and now running Stockorama I have 10GB free space in my internal memory VS the 5GB I had with the factory Rom...Best part is you get to pick and choose the features you want as you install...One important feature to me is SmartStay and happy to say it's installed in this Rom...Here is the link give it a whirl and let them know what you think...

Just report the thread and a mod will close it. Plus this thread was over a month old. Who ever decided to have their input just bumped it to the top of Q&A and the whole progress starts again.
