hi
I have a Lt28At hardware Carrier unlocked. i flashed the Lt28h ICS build some months back to get ICS.
Now i want to flash Lt28At or Lt28i ICS build.
Can anybody tell me is it better to flash Lt28At or Lt28i ICS ? (Somebody who can compare the two )
Main concern is that: is the tethering blocked in the Lt28At ICS build or any more carrier restriction ? please comment ...
Also can i flash directly from ICS Lt28h build to Lt28i/Lt28at via flash tool ? i read somewhere to back to GB 2.3 then update via SonyEricsoon Update Service.
Thanks a lot. :good:
All the ICS are about the same - layout and such. For me, the ATT ics is louder on the sound, smooth but lots of bloatwares. It has tethering but you will get text from ATT if you had it on and don't have tethering plan (this is what i heard, not applicable to me cuz I do have tethering plan).
My preference: LT28i ICS 6.1.C.2.29. Smooth, good battery management, no bloatwares, sound is less than ATT but not much different, smart dial, open tether.
And yes flash directly, just have all the wipes checked to avoid any problem later.
Hope that help.

Hey many thanks for the information. I just got a update on LT28h..6.1.e.1.20 Looks more of bug fixes upgrade .. Anyways i think the capacitive buttons more responsive.. And more speed.. And user ram is more now.. Battery drain more or less same... Sound no change.. Camera I was expecting more improvements.. Non there in terms of features..
I guess. I will stick on this for a whole.. LT28h came first.. So there surely would n patches pending from other main line branch to be merged here.. Looks this update was that one...

Hey did you by any chance have data connection issues after you moved to Lt28i? I recently moved from my stock At&t firmware to it and i cannot get a data connection, regular cell service just fine. But no data.

Is the ICS version of Xperia play fully functional? I mean the general stuff like WiFi and camera not the games.

Of course there are! You can try ICS beta with the patches to enable conections and g-apps, also you can give a try to DarkForest ROM + Kernel..... man that thing is AWSOME but doesnt have ps pocket and battery life sucks
Wi-Fi doesn't work on mine, so you'll probably be unable to download cache files for your games. UI is a bit laggy comparing to Gingerbread.
Everything worked fine when I had it. The problem for me was lag-related, not bugs.

So Sony is now updating our XPlays to ICS? I have the r800at...I can update to an official ICS?
OK... I think I just read about an update in the Wiki... so it's been pushed back to June?

Sony has stated that devices in America will receive the ICS update end of may / early june.
Everything works fine.
It's just the battery life sucks and game compatibility is lacking.
Perhaps you should download an ICS rom yourself and decide whether or not it's "functional" enough for you?
So, we're still a pretty small group here in the Ion forum, and a lot of us are using BL locked AT&T phones. I bought the LT28i online, unlocked the bootloader and rooted the gingerbread that came on my phone as per the fantastic instructions by Spectre51 and yuunanase.
This is my primary phone, in fact I sold my Xperia X10 and Arc to cover the cost of the Ion, so i have no backup and nothing to switch to if i brick this thing. That said, in my situation, would you chance flashing the chinese ICS rom? or would you stick it out for the stock build for your region?
Simon
Nothing wrong with flashing the lt28h rom. You aren't going to see much different between it and what gets released in the next couple of months. I am loving my rooted lt28at on the ics firmware and international baseband. No issues and runs really well.

There's virtually no chance of bricking it, and if (on the off-chance it does happen), complain to anyone and everyone online that you got a defective product. It's worked for a few of my friends on more than a few occasions. Anyways, ICS is wonderful. I haven't found any blatent problems with it so far (other than when you first flash it, you have to go and change the language to English whilist in Chinese, which was a bit hard).

I would go for it. Starting from the L28i should be even easier than from the L28at. It at least saves you a step.

That happened to me the first time, but every other time it assumed I wanted English. That first time was amusing though. I had my Tablet S out and was comparing icons. Finally I just assumed usb debug and unknown apps were checked and moved on.

Okay so i recently flashed the generic Lt28i rom to my At&t Lt28at and everything went smooth for the most part. However i am having one issue... i have no data connection. I have normal cell connection but absolutely no data connection. I tried toggling the mobile network on and off and doing a few reboots, but still nothing. Does anyone know whats going on?
thanks in advance for any advice!
APNs need to be manually added on the LT28i firmware.

Haha wow I cant believe I didn't think of that... Its been a long time and two different retired phones since I had to add an apn manually. Thanks Spectre.
EDIT: I searched around and found the post you made that included the screenshots of your apn. All is well, thanks again.

Does this work? I am trying to remove the bloat ware from my LT28at that is sim unlocked as I am no longer an AT&T customer. Could I use a Jelly Bean version that is intended for the LT28h or LT28i?

Yes you can use those firmwares on the lt28at. There are posts about using the generic international firmware just search for it.

I am hearing some rumblings that the ion LT28at won't be getting JB through AT&T. Hopefully get more info in the coming weeks/month but so far it isn't looking good for AT&T ion owners. Only saving grace is that we can run the LT28i firmware which will be getting JB. I'll keep you updated when I get more info.

Usually when carriers refuse to provide upgrades, it's usually attributed to the unsatisfactory performance of the phone. Can I assume the same for Xperia Ion?

Unsatisfactory sales maybe but AT&T never pushed the phone. It actually sold real well at Bestbuy. Actual performance of the phone isn't an issue.

not that surprised about AT&T...the T just got JB 9.1.A.0.489, so we shouldn't be that far behind to get a generic upgrade for the ion as well ... I will be waiting for root before to upgrade

Probably won't be able to root just like any of the new system updates for Xperia devices but you can root a previous firmware then flash a pre-rooted rom through CWM. Yeh AT&T sucks for updates. Its a shame cause the ion is a great phone.
Wow. Horrible news. I bought this phone cause of its sleek design, good hardware, and the look of the screen. But I am sad to say I will never be getting a Sony phone again.
I have been very excited about getting bootloader unlocked but at this point, it does not look like that will be coming anytime soon. And now reading this news breaks my heart. I wish a bootloader unlock exploit would come so we could unlock the great potential this phone could have. But I fear it isn't going to.

Eh I think if Sony pushed at&t to send the update really hard they would. It takes two to make the update happen. The manufacturer and the carrier. All I can do is blame both at this point..
But that could change. If they are willing to keep such a mysterious device updated and help the developing road.

Docomo did this with arc so-01c, and ATT maybe the same
LOL
What I am seeing is ATT does not want something on the same level as the new device yet to come and the T. As was said they never really pushed this device in the first place and I am thinking with no update that is a good thing. With the Play getting official unlock after being dropped from carriers this could mean we will get one for the Ion as soon as ATT drop it. I do hope a JB shows up for the I and H though.
Unbranded phones for me from now on, can't wait for the z

pre-rooted is what I meant, be waiting for you to post one and let me thank you in advance for that
I usually get my phones unlocked, but the ion was only $25 at BestBuy when I got it last August and they were giving a $50 gift card if you were renewing your contract , so in fact I made some money getting the phone... couldn't pass the occasion... the AT&T firmware lasted only the time I booted the phone for the first time then it was flashed immediately to the international firmware and rooted... and it has been a solid phone since
But even if so would not the at&t version be able to flash the International version's firmware like at&t x10a and international x10i using flashtools if some makes and ftf file?

Thats why I mentioned this "Only saving grace is that we can run the LT28i firmware which will be getting JB" in the first post. Yes we will be able to run the LT28i JB update on our LT28at without issue.
Indeed. And yet they wanted to lock the phone under their carrier, but yet not even considering providing the JB update.
Do you know what time we can recieve JB update for Xperia S?
.: Sony Xperia S "Nozomi" :.
Didn't see this anywhere. And when I tried to find out how it was too much to do to get just one thing working so I figured a little trick out that I have done with many at&t phones and it works!
First you need root.
Next download your favorite file viewer or just use system tuner.
Search for tether entitlement check or something like that in system apps and freeze it
Reboot.
That's it
Ha if your device messes up or something its not my fault yada yada yada you take full responaibiltity etc
One last thing , I got a little scared because my phone rebooted I think twice after the initial reboot so don't be alarmed if this happens. Phone will still boot up.
Enjoy!
Only tested on Xperia ion for at&t with latest ics
I just flashed lt28i version..and tether is working fine..
All bloatware of att is also removed...bcz ii could not find how to enable tether at that time...but it is nice if any 1 wanna use with att rom.

Good job, people were trying to figure this out when the Ion first came out.
Sent from my LT28at using xda app-developers app
Ya it was pretty simple haha and yes that version has tethering working already but for the at&t build it is locked and this is how to unlock it
Great Job!!
I'm not at&t ROM fan, but it might be the only cure for someone who got scratchy voice while using either "h" or "i" ROMs
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2115074)
With this is possible to keep the at&t ROM with tethering working!
