So by far best phone on sprint is the et4g. Seeing sprint is turning to lte will the et4g be compatible to lte?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Nope, the Epic Touch won't support LTE. It only supports WiMAX.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
No, and Sprint's turning off WiMax (what the E4GT, Evo, Evo 3D, Photon, and all Sprint 4G phones) use around 2015. I hate thinking about it but by then we'll be on to the SGS5.
E4GT LTE Rumor
I was just at a CORPORATE Sprint store getting my poor OG Epic repaired. While I was waiting, I asked about the Galaxy Nexus. I was told that the EPIC 4G TOUCH needed a firmware update, and it could then be used on the new LTE network by a Sprint salesperson in the store. Sounds official to me!!

I have asked a few of the sales reps and customer service people about this. They say that it is not going to be able to use the LTE service, and that it would need new hardware. And if I'm not mistaken, The wimax service that we currently use is from another company that sprint is with. So i'm not real sure how this will play out, but it is definitely not going to be able to use the LTE service.

Note to you.....you are gullible....the hardware will not even sniff a lte signal.....thus would be like saying with a firmware upgrade your dvd player will play bluray..... The first CPU that Samsung has that can handle lte is the one going in the galaxy 3 ....that is why every galaxy 2 that had lte was omap or snapdragon....the CPU in our phone is incompatible

Get off my ass dude... What about Samsung's Droid Charge. There, your credibility is already shot!
Anyway, apparently there is an inactive 800 Mhz radio in the E4GT. Rumor has it is that is the way it can be accomplished. It remains to be seen, but remember the Motorola Xoom? Same principle I guess...

A) The Droid Charge doesn't have an Exynos processor in it like the Galaxy S II
B) The Exynos does NOT do LTE, which is why the Skyrocket and AT&T Galaxy Note have Snapdragon S3s in them, not Exynos.
C) He's right. You're not going to magically get LTE with a WiMax radio or even the built in CDMA radio. It doesn't matter if LTE is going to be transmitted on that frequency; the phone's modem won't understand what LTE is.
D) The Xoom actually had it's original radio REPLACED by Motorola, in addition to a software update. You had to send your Xoom to Motorola for them to physically open it up and add/replace the LTE radio.
E) It requires a SIM card, which the E4GT doesn't have a slot for.
Done.
IRead and understand that 800 mhz radio is cdma like the evo 3d for voice and 3g that is it ...when they decommission the iden frequencies they may put voice on the frequencies but there its no chance of lte on this phone .....none .... go read the other 4 threads already about this ....
And i will not lump all sprint employees in the same boat but 95 % of sprint employees are legally brain dead..... Just a joke ... But they know nothing about phones or the network...you will get the correct info here way before a sprint employee.... But some regional managers and such actually have some info but salesmen etc at stores even customer service have no clue

I was a technician in a Sprint store and I agree with the bolded statement 100%.
And you're right about no chance of LTE on any current Sprint phone.

The Photon has an LTE modem installed, it will be able to work on the lte setup. You lose, research before you speak.
Guys, ALL 4g devices will work just not on 4g LTE network. They just don't download at LTE speeds. You gotta remember that LTE is still a 4g based network. So, we are talking about downloading at 5mb/s or 10mb/s. At those speeds, it really doesn't matter unless you are trying to stream 5 porns in high quality at once lol. Same thing as 1x/2g still working but 3g is preferred.

The Photon most definitely does NOT have an LTE modem installed. I don't know where you think you got your info. It has the bece3502 chipset which is WiMax ONLY. On top of that, if you read the FCC filings it has only passed for use with WiMax, not LTE. So YOU lose, and you are the one who should research before you speak. ROFL

Please show me where you read that it does. And please no, XDA threads with speculation about it. I want solid evidence, like an official spec sheet that says so.

Plug it in people. Sprint may not update the firmware to allow it, but it does have one. You girls can fight about whatever you want, I know the truth, and it doesn't matter if you think it will or not, I was just giving people the correct info. Flame me or whatever, I know what I see, and I know what is in the photon. If you in fact did take photons apart then you would know as well. The LTE modem is left over from the Verizon Bionic. The hardware simply isn't there.
I can install AMD GPU drivers on my computer all I want.... but it won't give me the hardware.

You mean the Galaxy Nexus...
all of you are so silly! of COURSE our etouch will work with lte! why would sprint release a device designed for a specific technology, and then piss on the ENTIRE customer base of wimax owners by not only HALTING the development of wimax, but then switching to a completely diff technology our device would NEVER have the capability of working with?
common sense...
Hi a friend of mine wants to trade his Epic 4g Touch for my Evo Shift. I'm pretty sure it's worth the trade but before I do I wanna know what's possible on it first.
What all carrier(s) can the Epic be flashed to?
What's the best performing/fastest carrier available?
And is the flashing process easy?
Thanks in advance

First he's either trading off a bad device or doesn't understand his E4GT is superior in all ways to the Evo Shift.
Get the ESN and call Sprint to make sure it's clean.
Make sure he hasn't damaged it in any way, internal or external.
There are several Galaxy SII's so check the model number. Ours is SPH-D710 which I think can only be supported by Sprint, although it seems like there's a post somewhere about flashing it to Boost and US Cellular. (Found the links)
For flashing to Boost

For flashing to US Cellular
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531303
Keep in mind phones that run on Sprint can not run on AT&T or Verizon networks. (I stand correct, thanks booksyx) apparently it can be flashed to Verizon.
Flashing on this phone is super easy so long as you read and follow all instructions and when in doubt, ask questions. There are several incredible ROMs currently for this phone of both Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich flavors. Read in the development section to see for yourself.
The post above me has many incorrect statements.
The epic 4g touch can run on almost any CDMA network. I currently have mine running on Virgin Mobile. It can also be flashed to boost mobile, cricket, metro pcs, verizon, etc.
They key to getting it working on those networks is to have a donor phone where you can extract all the NAM keys, esn/meid, and data keys and flash them to the epic 4g touch. Really isnt to hard once you have all the keys to write them.
My epic 4g touch has everything working on virgin mobile. Calling/SMS/MMS/3g/Wimax. However you will have to go elsewhere for a wimax solution. Best part is I only pay $25 a month for all this!
The ESN is clean and it's also relatively new. Not 100% sure what the exact model is but i'll find out when he gets off work.
The whole reason he's making the trade is because EVO is his favorite phone. He was going to trade me his iPhone 4 for my EVO but then I found out that even if I flash the iPhone 4 that Data and MMS dont function fully. So I didnt want that.
But If the Epic is that much more superior that makes me want it more now, as long as I can get it fully functional on a prepaid service that is.
I wasn't aware there was so many different versions. Because he didnt tell me it was an Epic, all he said was Galaxy S II. So I ended up posting in the wrong forum. But his is Sprint though so everyone said it's an Epic 4g Touch.
That's good that it's relatively easy to flash. I personally prefer boost, but whatever is fully functional and runs the fastest
*Edit
Does every carrier require a donor phone to Flash to?

Many incorrect? lol I see one (oh make that two, didn't know that about Verizon) and that's why I said thinks like *I think* as in I'm not 100% sure, just going on what I've recently read here on XDA.
Thanks for clarifying that though.
I currently own a note 2 L900 sprint version flashed over to boost mobile. Right now I have it on ebay. I want to get one I can use with straight talk or other gsm providers. I hear it's easy to get the ATT version on straight talk. I also hear the Verizon version can be flashed over to straight talk but idk why if it was unlocked the apn couldn't be added to use straight talk. If anyone can clarify that please let me know. Also I see different versions for Verizon and different versions for ATT. Please help me in deciding the perfect note 2 for me! Thank you all very much for viewing and any input I may get on this. Also being able to go back to boost mobile might be a plus. Where I go Verizon is the best signal but I'm all done with paying such a high bill and only getting squat for data. Also I would like to add Sprint service sux!
ok, from what I gather the sprint/verizon phones can be used and run on verizon signal. Att and tmobile run on ATT. Anyone know if there's any phones that can be programmed to accept both signals. that would be fantastic. CDMA vs GSM would be the stopper but what about the 4s and it being CDMA and GSM?

i was wondering, i know T-Mobile used to use sim cards (Unknowledged Now) and i had a couple of androids from T-Mobile back in 2008-2009 and modded them all to work with AT&T but i could only use edge network (only 3g out at that time). Has this changed any? Reason I am asking is I've been searching for so long in my area on local sites like craigslist for a good price on an AT&T i747 but just cant find one. Yet I have found some good deals on some T-mobile galaxy sIII phones. So I guess the questions I'm trying to ask are:
1. Does T-Mobile still use sim cards?
2. Can i use a T-Mobile GS3's with AT&T and have 4g LTE functions?
3. If it were you would you save $100 and go with the equivelant Gs3 T-Mobile, compared to paying $100 more for the AT&T version? (my situation)
I have more time than money, but I love not being limited, thats why im buying one in the first place. love my infuse 4g (4.2.2) but man... dat gsIII
and if i can just drop Clockwork on it and root it up and go on my marry way, heck yea
this seems primarily about the t999, so you should head over to that forum for better answers from people who use their t999 on att. tmobile is still a gsm carrier and uses sim cards. I would buy the t999 as I'm pretty sure you can use 3g/4g (not really 4g though as I consider lte to be 4g) with it on att. but again, head over to the tmobile forums for better answers.

I agree, the tmo forum may be able to help more, however to answer some of it:
1. Yes, tmo still uses SIMs
2. Most users can only get HSPA+ due to the different frequencies. So, while data will be much better than edge, it won't be as fast as LTE.
3. I would not. Due to the potential problems of not getting LTE, the 100.00 is worth it to me.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
If you do not care about LTE then go for it. That really should be your only concern.
Definitely go talk with the people over in the tmo forums. Theyd probably be of better assistance.

Ok first and foremost don't flame me for my stupid questions!
I was wondering if it was possible to flash a cdma Galaxy S 3 to my local carrier Nex-Tech Wireless. I've dug around quite a bit regarding ESN's PRL's and programs such as CDMA workshop & QPST but I'm a bit confused as to if it's possible and what exactly I would need to get.
A couple things to preface my question.
1. I currently have a cdma Galaxy S (the actual name is the galaxy s showcase but it's basically Verizon's Samsung Fascinate). I'm familiar with Odin and how to flash/restore to stock as well as editing roms to get mms to work. (Currently calls, text, and data/3G work as long as I use the showcase modems). This could be the first issue with using a different carrier's phone ( I don't know much about the modems).
2. Nex-Tech wireless is a small regional carrier in Kansas (similar to nTelos, C Spire, Alltel, etc.)
3. I've called Nex-Tech and they told me that they won't let me just bring in a cdma phone in and activate it. I assume this means that they don't have the ESN/MEID for unsupported phones allowed on their networks or in their database of phones. I am not sure if this is the case but its a guess.
Before I go buying a cdma GS3 I was wondering if anyone had luck flashing Verizons GS3 or the USCC GS3 to alternate cdma carriers. Or if they could point me in the right direction.
I think there are a couple issues. The first would be just getting the phone activated on Nex-tech service and then the other would be to ensure that 3G would work. MMS isn't a dealbreaker because I think I can get that going, it's really the least of my worries.
