Ok first and foremost don't flame me for my stupid questions!
I was wondering if it was possible to flash a cdma Galaxy S 3 to my local carrier Nex-Tech Wireless. I've dug around quite a bit regarding ESN's PRL's and programs such as CDMA workshop & QPST but I'm a bit confused as to if it's possible and what exactly I would need to get.
A couple things to preface my question.
1. I currently have a cdma Galaxy S (the actual name is the galaxy s showcase but it's basically Verizon's Samsung Fascinate). I'm familiar with Odin and how to flash/restore to stock as well as editing roms to get mms to work. (Currently calls, text, and data/3G work as long as I use the showcase modems). This could be the first issue with using a different carrier's phone ( I don't know much about the modems).
2. Nex-Tech wireless is a small regional carrier in Kansas (similar to nTelos, C Spire, Alltel, etc.)
3. I've called Nex-Tech and they told me that they won't let me just bring in a cdma phone in and activate it. I assume this means that they don't have the ESN/MEID for unsupported phones allowed on their networks or in their database of phones. I am not sure if this is the case but its a guess.
Before I go buying a cdma GS3 I was wondering if anyone had luck flashing Verizons GS3 or the USCC GS3 to alternate cdma carriers. Or if they could point me in the right direction.
I think there are a couple issues. The first would be just getting the phone activated on Nex-tech service and then the other would be to ensure that 3G would work. MMS isn't a dealbreaker because I think I can get that going, it's really the least of my worries.

We can't flame you for asking stupid questions. This is the GT-i9300 forum, so we don't know anything about CDMA S3's. Probably less than you.
We can probably flame you for posting in the wrong device forum though

Well that is a very good point. I don't suppose a moderator would like to move this to the Sprint Galaxy S3 thread please?

I've had many Android devices over the years and flashed a few ROMs in my day. I haven't messed with any of that in quite a long while though.
I've recently switched from all Sprint and all HTC devices to T-Mobile's Galaxy S3. I searched and found the thread about the Team Sonic modem flasher. I tried to read as much as possible but don't think my question is answered there.
Basically.. I get no service at my house and cannot manually select the AT&T network. Everyone with AT&T (including my girlfriend who has the S3) gets service here. Can I flash an AT&T baseband on my T999? I currently have UVLJ4 and get nothing inside and 2G outside whereas all the AT&T people get 4G in my house.
Hope this hasn't been answered before.
Thanks
Sam
Pretty sure that's a no-no.
I think you could flash the modem, but you need to verify they use the exact same partition on both variants. If it flashed to the wrong partition you're likely to hard brick the phone.
An att modem is not going to get you on the att network. I seriously doubt it'd even let you even make a phone call on tmobiles network, though it could happen. I can't figure any real reason (other than pure dumb luck) that another carriers modem would be better than one coded specifically for the network you are on.
Your best bet is to try out all the available modems we already have before thinking about trying another carriers fw.
And search again, but look in the development stickies too! You may find other things you could try. For the moment the modem flasher is quite outdated. I may work on updating it this coming week for those who are still wanting it. We'll see!

Will this no-no brick my phone or will I just not be able to get any service once flashed and then flash back? I've been trying to scour XDA and the rest of the internet for answers. So far I found this info..
"The modems in the GS3 are SDR or software defined radios. Their frequency TX and RX spectrums can be modified through software. The nice thing about the MSM8960 SOC board is that the radios can be programmed to virtually any current GSM, HSPA or LTE frequency in use in the United States today"
If this is true, I should just be able to flash an AT&T baseband, correct? Then again, I read that the T999 doesn't have the LTE compatibility that every other S3 has. Is this software or hardware defined?
Its a hw limitation.
Call tmobile and let them know the situation. Since you're new to their network I doubt they'd do it but I've heard of them providing a cell repeater to put in your home. Worst they'll say is no!

We replied at the same times and I did not see this until I had already posted. Thank you. I guess I will try previous T-Mobile modems and see if one happens to be better for me. All I want is to roam but the phone won't let me choose the AT&T network even though it shows up in the network search. Customer service told me you are unable to roam as long as a T-Mobile network is available at your location.
I do not want to risk bricking so I will stay away from trying the AT&T modem as I am not familiar with this phone or any flashing that has come about in the past 2-3 years.
I changed phone been using iphones since 3g. I have rooted the S3, unlocked the baseband installed the cleanrom 4.5. Changed the apn too show the att's ones however i still cannot get data on my phone. I used to have LTE/ 4G however i can only make call and text now. Advise me please!!!

hate to tell you but you've posted in the sprint s3 forum regarding an at&t s3 on verizon lol.
also att and verizon are 2 different techs (gsm vs cdma). it won't work. can't put a gsm phone on a cdma carrier (we have no sim cards) and vice-versa.

One swing and two misses, how does that happen?
As the other user said, you're in the wrong forum with that question but I'll entertain an answer.
Short version: it's not going to happen. AT&T is GSM, Verizon is CDMA. Both phones use different frequencies to provide service with and I don't believe they support each other.

I have a tmobile galaxy s3 and I'm currently using it on the wind network. I wanted to switch to a canadian provider named fido which uses the same network as rogers. I looked everywhere but cant find a straight answer. I wanted to know whether LTE will work on FIDO and if i have to do some kind of mod or would it just work from the start.
Here we go again lol

the point is YOU NEED TO SEARCH there are a million threads about this in the "General" section of the T-Mobile, Wind, Mobilicity, Videotron Samsung Galaxy S III...
The short answer is no. The T-Mo version doesnt have the proper chip to support LTE. And as stated by DocHoliday, the T-Mobile Galaxy S III was never tested with the FCC for LTE compatibility.
You would know this if you searched......
Short answer is no, long answer is maybe. A Google search would have found other threads on the subject

I did search but i didn't get complete answers. Some were no, some yes, and some maybe. I wanted to make sure before i spend money switching to a more expensive plan then finding out it doesn't work. Im still confused if it will work, because some people are claiming Tmobile representatives and Samsung have said it is LTE capable.
No, it won't work. If the hardware is there it is not enabled, and would probably take some serious dev work to enable it, which I don't think is a priority for any of our devs at the moment

I was hoping otherwise. I just got off the phone with Fido and they told me it will work, are they just bull****ting? Also I was reading in a post i wont have LTE but i will have close to LTE speeds, is there any truth in that?

If you did the research, you know as much as anyone else does. Nobody is magically going to come out of somewhere and give you the answer. If this was a simple answer, it would have been answered and verified. Anyone out there saying "it might work" or "it should work" or "it could work" is just going off of technical documents and little else. Yes it could, but it could also be permanently and irreversibly disabled via software, or other hardware means.

Short answer, no. If you want to base your decision on someone working customer support at Fido, then by all means, get the phone and hope away that you'll get LTE
I would really look to base your decision on what you know and what works today. The phone is HSPA+ 42 compatible, not sure of what the Fido network supports. Today this is often times very competitive with even the latest LTE networks, and is more than enough for any smartphone today.
Good grief.
Sir, please use the Search function, but it seems you may have gotten your answer. Thank You & Thread Closed.
Hi,
I just bought a samsung galaxy nexus i515 verizon 4G LTE cell phone. I came to know that 4G phone does not work with page plus without programming/hacking(?) . Is it possible to make this cell work with pageplus? I do not need 4g or 3g . Just talk and text is fine.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
Paras.
Is pageplus GSM? If so then for sure no. If pageplus is CDMA then still no, at least I haven't heard of one CDMA phone being used on another CDMA carrier. To my knowledge the only carrier VZW phones can be used on is VZW, except for the few VZW "global" phones that also support GSM.

Well pageplus is CDMA and uses VZW network. But when I called them they said 4G phones do not work and needs some programming to make it work on their 3G network. I am not sure what do I do.

Oh I see. Very interesting, but over my head. I will keep this thread subscribed.:good:
They didn't offer any other info or leads as to how to go about doing this? How do they program other phones to their network? Seems like the LTE would only make it easier to activate, unless they do not have any LTE towers in place.

Normally? No. Not a chance since one is a gsm carrier and the other is a CDMA carrier. But its completely possible considering the fact people are unlocking Sprint s4's to use on straight talk, att, tmo etc. It actually has the gsm technology. Band wise tho, you should be okay but you might want to look into what bands the tmo uses and what bands Sprint uses. First you need to unlock the device, theres a few guides in general section for free unlock, but your biggest problem may be Sprint its self and getting them to add it to their service. Might want to start there first
