[Q] CDMA Screens - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Anyone know if the screen from a sprint Galaxy Nexus phone can be used on the verizon CDMA model?

Noooo. It takes a lot of modifying to get the parts to fit. I didn't personally do it, but there's a thread here about someone who did. He ended up getting it finished, but it was a lot of trouble. I'll go look for that thread for you now and edit my.post when I find it...
Edit: can't find the thread
All I know is the parts do not just fit. You need to do some fabricating to get the screen to fit

Are you sure that's not from CDMA to GSM well the other way around? From what I know the Sprint and Verizon Nexuii are pretty much the same.

If you ask me, GSM, CDMA Verizon, CDMA Sprint, they're all the exact same, except for the radios, antenna ports and the SIM card slot...
Why wouldn't they fit, they're all 4.68", right?
Don't rely on me lol, I have no idea...

No. The gsm and cdma ones are different. The connector cables are in different places

Gotcha. I think I've said this awhile ago, but that's an awesome signature lol.. Hate it when people ask that question...

The last time i checked Sprint's nexus don't have a sim card slot, so the innards should be different too.

It seems that most of these replys are talking about using a CDMA screen on a GSM phone or a GSM screen on a CDMA phone. I think we can all agree that without a lot of work this is not possible. However has anyone actually ever tried using a screen from the Sprint Galaxy Nexus on the Verizon Model? I haven't been able to find any post indicating that it has been tried.

i would image it is different. the sim is not removable so i'd imagine the rest is different due to this.

[Q] T-Mo/AT&T unlock

Is there a way to make a rooted and SIM-unlocked DInc2 usable on AT&T and T-Mo networks in the US? Any sort of flashable upgrade to any internal components, hacked radio or whatnot that would achieve that purpose?
Really?? Your question wasn't answered when you posted this in the development forum? You need to sim unlock your phone via verizon or xtc clip.

Ah, rude comment followed by subpar answer, apparently that's the norm on xda? What would the world be if we didn't continuously punish people for harmless mistakes? Grow up.

I will be as nice as I possibly can.
LEARN TO READ, will ya?
The phone is *already* SIM unlocked and rooted. However, Verizon blocks AT&T and T-Mobile SIMs even on SIM-unlocked phones. Hence the question.

Thanks for the support, snowman, but this was no mistake.
The question was phrased perfectly, and I am sure I am not the only one who would benefit from a solution.
In fact, the whole reason I posted it in the development forum initially is because, based on my research, there is no solution as of yet, and if it is possible at all, it will probably require further developers' involvement to find it.
If anyone here wants to prove me wrong, I would appreciate a concrete answer or a link to a solution.
I'm fairly certain I've read of the DINC 2 being used on T-Mobile successfully, not sure if I've read of AT&T though. Can't for the life of me remember where I read it though, probably here or Droid-Forums.net.

Haven't tried it, but here's a link that should offer a solution:

The thread contains instructions for how to input an unlock code that should allow you to use other carriers' SIM card both in the US and abroad.
Good luck.

If I'm not mistaken its a global phone. However the GSM frequency used abroad is different than in the states. Therefore I don't think it's possible.

It's a quad band phone, so the problem is not with frequencies.
The problem is with verizon specifically precluding AT&T and T-Mo SIMs from working even when DInc2 is SIM-unlocked. Not sure which part of firmware is responsible for it, but I'd imagine it's flashable, so, given attention from the right developer, fixable.
I would really prefer to hear from people that know of a solution or are able to produce one. Lots of guesses resulting from being misinformed or, worse yet, misreading the original question just distract everyone and make it less likely that the real solution will ultimately be found.

No idea what bad ESN means but you can't use a Verizon Nexus on T-Mobiles network. CDMA phone on a GSM network will not work.
No, pretty sure you hot confused by the penta-band part.
That's just for GSM frequencies.
The Verizon gnex is a different model number too, its the i515 and the GSM is the i9250.
I'm not 100% certain it won't work but I'm 99% certain.
Maybe someone else can second that for me.
Can you sell it on again?
EDIT: I see someone already posted and verified it before I posted this! Me derpsta!
Yes a verizon cdma phone will not work on a T-mobile gsm network. They are completely different networks. Now you may be able to flash the phone to work on another cdma carrier like boost or metro pcs. You would need to buy a european gsm version of the galaxy nexus to use it on t-mobile.

Not to pour salt on your wounds or anything, but here in Canada, BNIB Galaxy Nexuses are ~$450. $300 seems a bit high for such a fatal defect in the phone. Maybe this is Canadian pricing as all of our carriers sell the phone.
Hope you can somehow get some money back for it.

You'll be lucky if you can resell it for $200-$250 with a bad ESN.

Yeah, there are a lot of them. Besides several different Blackberries, off the top of my head, I know that Verizon has had the Touch Pro 2, Droid 2 Global, Droid Pro, Droid 3, Droid Incredible 2, and the iPhone 4S. I know Sprint has also had several CDMA/GSM devices as well.
I really wish Verizon's Galaxy Nexus had been a world phone with GSM capabilities, but it's not. Then it would be absolutely perfect for me. But up until this point, Verizon hasn't released a LTE phone that also has a functioning GSM radio for global use. Some of them (Droid Bionic, Droid Razr) have a GSM radio (one of those CDMA/GSM combo chips), but the GSM portion doesn't actually function. There were some rumors awhile back that the GSM capabilities might possibly be enabled later, but I never saw where things went beyond rumor.
Don't you people know better to ask your questions here first before spending your money?
At least the seller was up front about the bad ESN. Now wonder if he was the one who stole the device, lol.

Probably covered already... but no, this will not work. Ever. You bought a paperweight. Could've bought a GSM model for $100-$150 more.
Its amazing that you didn't research before buying, and you spent $300 on a bad ESN phone w/o a plan on what to do with it. A simple 5 minutes on Google would have given you the answer.

[Q] galaxy nexus 16GB & 4G LTE difference

hi everyone
so, I was watching a review of Galaxy Nexus because I'm gonna buy one,
& I crossed over this only in Cnet's review, they said 16 GB one is unlocked, & also the 4G one is thicker as they showed.
now my question is if I buy the 32 one, can I unlock it later? myself?
& also if it's true 16GB is thinner, how thin is it in hand? because I already took one 32GB in hand & it was not that bad to take in hand
Unlock it to use on a GSM network? No (at least not as far as I know), the internal hardware in Toro (32GB version) is different than that in Maguro (16GB version).
The thickness isn't really too noticeable for me, depending on what phone you are coming from you probably won't notice a huge difference when held compared to the Toro model, It has a nice quality feel no matter which one you choose.
I hope this helps!
The 4G is used on CDMA, there's not point in unlocking it as you couldn't use it on another CDMA carrier's 4G (such as Sprint).
The 16 GB is GSM, not CDMA. So depending on what network you plan on using it on, that should dictate which one to use.
Since I'm on Tmo, the GSM is the one for me.

Well actually, some GSM 32 GB WERE sold a LONG time ago, near launch. Samsung quickly discontinued this model however, and made it a CDMA exclusive for some reasons (only reason I envy my gfs Sprint Gnex).
Anyways, I've seen a few sell on eBay, but as far as everyone knows, they stopped making them, and I don't see why they'd start selling them exclusively there. Maybe a misprint?

You will need to be able to hardware mod the phone to accept a GSM sim on top of the hardwired chip.
You'll also need balls of steel.

The sprint note has no accessable sim slot. To "possibly" accomplish this one would need to modify the hardware by adding a sim slot and hack the software.

in layman's terms, you can't. if you remove the back cover from your device there is no sim card slot on the sprint variant to insert a sim. the only current wait to use our phones abroad is to use the sprint international plan.

$6.47 swap that plug and play component into place and BAM sim card slot.
either cut a hole in your middle cover OR buy a int middle cover.
also someone is working on a mod solution to keep the 4g AND add a sim card slot
we off course still need to unlock to work on US carriers but maybe its not locked to begin with since they would not have thought of someone swapping parts like this.

very cool. do you know if you can do a similar trick with the ebay sim card holders for the Galaxy S3 (i.e. L710) ? I'm really hoping to buy a sprint GS3, put it on ting, and be able to occasionally take it internationally.

maybe it's just me, but amazing that so many people still believe that phones are compatible with other carriers............if you have Tmobile, AT&T then you're GSM network, Verizon & Sprint are CDMA..............it just bugs me when people ask to get their Sprint phone activated on another carrier (only exception is Cricket). I had someone a couple of days ago who bought a Tmobile version of the Galaxy S3, and wanted to know how to jailbreak it to use on another carrier.
normally you would be absolutely right. but in this specific case and possible with the S3 as well your incorrect.
the Note II and possibly the S3 have full GSM capabilities. Sprint just "corrupted" them on purpose (and should be illegally as well)
with the gizmo from ebay we get a normal sim card slot. now we just need a good hacker/coder to unlock the intentional "block" put in place by sprint to prevent it from seeing US GSM signals from companies other than sprint.
once someone manages to do that we will literally have a phone that could in theory be used on "ANY" US provider and probably any world provider.

I don't know. Someone posted that the LTE SIM card (a chip on the board) is part of this board. so removing it would remove LTE (disable it)
but if your going SIM your going GSM so can't use sprint LTE anyway. so its not a "huge" deal.

It's actually cheaper and way easier to sell your Sprint note 2 and buy one that works on att and straight talk.

[Q] Flash to t-mobile is it possible?

Hi guys,
this may not be the proper forum for this if it is not i apologize.
I have have the cricket galaxy S3 which I payed retail for a few months ago, I am moving to a area where they do not cover, I would like to bring my s3 over to tmobile but im running into a strange issue.
The phone is set to cdma mode in the the engineering menus i can switch it over to gsm and it has the frequencies that tmobile uses but i can not get it to see anyone else's sim card other then crickets, its not an unlock problem, it just says please insert sim with anyone else's, they do something weird they are cdma but have a sim card and the phone will not work without it. I tried installing a rom with the tmobile baseband as an experiment thinking well it may be that, but it didn't work.
I am having a hard time believing there is not a way to get this done so I am turning to the most informed android community I know of for advice, Dose anyone have any thoughts on how to accomplish this?
Please not I am not scared to brick this phone because if I cant get it switched over its a $500.00 paperweight to me anyway it has a cracked glass so I wouldn't be able to sell it anyway.
What model is it? I think cricket is closely related to sprint or verizon. And as far as I know no ones been able to use those models on the tmob or att networks with any success. Just because the option is in the engineering menus does not mean the phone is capable. It was just easier than creating separate apps for every model s3.
Now that T-Mobile has lte in some areas this may have changed a little, but in the past I know cdma phones were not compatible with T-Mobiles gsm network. So there may be a way IF lte is in your market, but I still wouldnt get my hopes up much.

it is identical to the verizon one, model is like 530 I think and the verizon is 535 (dont have in in front of me), but ive seen on youtube someone get the verizon s3 to work on gsm but hitting a couple settings, hence my frustration.

See I looked at that but I couldnt get it to work with my phone, the part that is hanging me up is it refuses to see the gsm sim card, though outwardly they look identical to the lte card that is in my phone im thinking it has to do with the encoding on them.
i have been trying to Odin flash the stock vzw firmware to it, since the hardware is identical, but i cant get past the qualcomm secure boot check

I wouldn't try that again. Way too risky. Odin won't flash an official firmware to a different model device. But if you get it to it would be more likely to brick your phone than not. I know they're practically identical, but any difference in bootloaders could cause it.

And I know you said you're not worried about bricking it, but even with cracked glass you can still sell it, probably for a good bit more than you think.
And you did imply you are unlocked. Are you though, for sure?

well here is the thing, about the unlocked bit I am not sure, but it dose not prompt me for an unlock code, it simply just dose not see any other sim thats put in it, it just says No Sim. I gave up on flashing it with odin, I remembered the rom I was running had options for all major us carriers in it and cricket so i played around with that re-flashing the rom to it try a few things and well that didn't work either.
Well if you don't get it unlocked its probably not going to work with any other carriers network.

That thread may help. It's for gsm phones so I don't know if it'll do you any good, but it's worth a shot!
The Rom itself will have little to do with getting it working on another network. The main items that you probably need to worry about are unlocking and that SIM card.
The sim is tmob right? Does it work fine in other T-Mobile phones?
If you really do think.it's the Rom you may be able to flash a stock based Rom from the T999. Get verification first though as it's probably not like att where we can just flash theirs and it just works! You'd most likely need it ported.
