You will need to be able to hardware mod the phone to accept a GSM sim on top of the hardwired chip.
You'll also need balls of steel.

lol.
I have no Idea what "Hardware mod" is? Can you please explain or send me a link where I can get an idea how to do that?
Thanks.

The sprint note has no accessable sim slot. To "possibly" accomplish this one would need to modify the hardware by adding a sim slot and hack the software.
there is a thread about sone folks attempting this...i have not been following it.

in layman's terms, you can't. if you remove the back cover from your device there is no sim card slot on the sprint variant to insert a sim. the only current wait to use our phones abroad is to use the sprint international plan.
Got it
Thank you all for your help. I sold the phone. I had no choice...

You could buy an AT&T Note to use with Straight Talk. I have one for sale on eBay right now (Note 1, not 2) that I bought for that same reason, but don't have coverage where I live to make it happen. http://www.ebay.com/itm/290826024805?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

note ii sim or search for this one 271090307387
$6.47 swap that plug and play component into place and BAM sim card slot.
either cut a hole in your middle cover OR buy a int middle cover.
also someone is working on a mod solution to keep the 4g AND add a sim card slot
we off course still need to unlock to work on US carriers but maybe its not locked to begin with since they would not have thought of someone swapping parts like this.

very cool. do you know if you can do a similar trick with the ebay sim card holders for the Galaxy S3 (i.e. L710) ? I'm really hoping to buy a sprint GS3, put it on ting, and be able to occasionally take it internationally.
I was about to buy a motorola photon, but the lack of updates is scaring me.
UPDATE: found this thread if you're more into the GS3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002515

maybe it's just me, but amazing that so many people still believe that phones are compatible with other carriers............if you have Tmobile, AT&T then you're GSM network, Verizon & Sprint are CDMA..............it just bugs me when people ask to get their Sprint phone activated on another carrier (only exception is Cricket). I had someone a couple of days ago who bought a Tmobile version of the Galaxy S3, and wanted to know how to jailbreak it to use on another carrier.
normally you would be absolutely right. but in this specific case and possible with the S3 as well your incorrect.
the Note II and possibly the S3 have full GSM capabilities. Sprint just "corrupted" them on purpose (and should be illegally as well)
with the gizmo from ebay we get a normal sim card slot. now we just need a good hacker/coder to unlock the intentional "block" put in place by sprint to prevent it from seeing US GSM signals from companies other than sprint.
once someone manages to do that we will literally have a phone that could in theory be used on "ANY" US provider and probably any world provider.

based on a search of this and looking at pictures. why would you lose 4g? the lte chip is built on the processor board.

the statement below is 100% correct. the hardware in this phone is fully capable of GSM service. the removed software controls are the problem.

I don't know. Someone posted that the LTE SIM card (a chip on the board) is part of this board. so removing it would remove LTE (disable it)
but if your going SIM your going GSM so can't use sprint LTE anyway. so its not a "huge" deal.
Magic Sim?
I contacted Magic Sim and they said their Elite Micro Sim would work with Sprint. It did not show on the site so I emailed them and they said it would.

There's a guy out there that says he can put it on straight talk w/o sim. operates on verizon network. 231 something was the name of the outfit. google a bit and I'm sure you will find him. hope I helped
look on ebay at the people that do boost mobile flashes for the note 2. send them a message asking if they do the sprint note 2 to straight talk. most of them I talked to do this for like $50 if you have a new donor. If anyone needs more info pm me and I'll be glad to help

I have the Tmobile/walmart monthly 4g 100min/unlimited data plan and have the Galaxy Exhibit phone.
I want to get a Galaxy Nexus from the play store but I am not sure how I would get the new phone working on my plan.
Is it as simple as taking the sim out of my Exhibit and putting it in the Galaxy Nexus?
Do I need to somehow activate the nexus?
would the nexus inherit my phone number?
I really dread the thought of calling some support line and having them mess with my service, I have read a lot of storys about people getting on the wrong plan and not being able to get it fixed.
With the recent price drop the galaxy nexus is hard to resist, I just dont know what hassles I might have to deal with, any help would be appreciated.

The only support stuff you might need to do is exchange your sim card for a newer one if you have a really old sim card

The beauty of GSM phones is that you can swap sims all day long from phone to phone or from service provider to service provider. It should also inherent the phone number as well.
In short, yes. you should be able to swap the sim without any phone calls to t-mobile. The only thing that you'd need to do on your end is login to your google account on the new phone. *Edit: Forgot about what harveydent noted in his post about old sims. But that should be a quick call to t-mobile and a day or two wait. Not really much to fret about.
The only time it might not work is if the phone you are getting is locked to a certain carrier and that phone didn't have the frequencies available to operate on your network. This is NOT a problem on unlocked phones like the galaxy nexus however since it is unlocked and it has all the frequencies (pentaband) needed to operate on both t-mobile and AT&T.

as for the sim, I bought the phone in march I think, so the sim is not old.
off to the play store I go
It will work fine, there's no need to do anything, that's exactly what I did. And what an upgrade it is from the Exhibit II! Enjoy!
so, i recently bought this phone new in box. opened the box, inserted my sim and it does not recognize it. now i should mention that i use walmart family mobile as my carrier. could that be my problem? i'm told that t-mobile phones work since there a branch of t-mobile but so far no luck. im going from a captivate to this phone, so the sim was bigger. i used the template deal and cut it down to the micro sim size which i thought could be my problem but the sim happily works in the captivate. any help with this would be greatly appreciated. i will answer all questions to my greatest abilities and i apologize in advance if im the 18th person to ask this today like other questions

but this works with other t-mobile phones and i know this because i have done it without an unlock, but those were older older phones like the s1 and s2. does the t999l specifically pick a fight? maybe a quirk of 4.1.2?

well a man can hope right? and from my extensive research i have found that because of the fancy L the only way to unlock this is via a dude on ebay, or a code directly from t-mobile. i doubt t-mobile would do this for a non-contract phone though. it certainly does suck to suck.
Esn?

"Doesn't recognize it" please explain what exactly what is happening. If it is still asking for a SIM to be inserted, you will need a new SIM, but if it is asking for a Unlock PIN Code or similar, then you will need to unlock the phone to use with a non-TMo provider. Personally, I think that since you cut the SIM and it is not lining up. You should get a new (factory made, not cut) Micro-SIM. Also, I believe that it should work with Simple, Straight Talk and Walmart Family on any TMo phone.
I have note ii from at&t which is also rooted. Can i use with different carrier as I am contemplating verizin wireless? Other day, i talked to girl in bestbuy and she has outright refused has no clue of what rooted phone is. Approached another guy, and pointed me to anohter person in another best buy location who can do some real technical advise but reminded me to talk to him in secrecy.
Another option seems to be sign up with Verizon buying real cheap 10$ phone and change the sim card.
Thanks,
No, you can't. GSM networks only with this phone like T-Mobile. Verizon is a CDMA network

You what mate?
AT&T and Tmobile are GSM networks, mostly compatible.
You can use any AT&T phone (even locked) on AT&T or one of their MVNOs, basically resellers of their network. See here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_mobile_virtual_network_operators
If you unlock it, you can also use it on Tmobile, or any of their MVNOs. But Tmobile HSPA+/LTE data networks may or may not match up too well with your AT&T phone, depends on the phone.
Sprint/Verizon use CDMA, a fundamentally incompatible technology from GSM, so it is a no-go.
okay , i switched to tmovile and got an LG G FLEX. Turns out this phone is piece of ****, dropped 2 feet with the rubber case and screen cracked. Now I am going to use the ATT NOTE II with tmobile. When I moved our Note II to T-mobile, I got an unlock code from one of the websites. Then I took it to T-Mobile and used that unlock code at the store. Lot's of sites that will send you and unlock code and directions to unlock. You can search this forum for "SIM Unlock" and you'll find plenty of threads.
Did you get the T-Mobile "JUMP" for the Flex? If so, then you can have it replaced, otherwise you're SOL.

on what carrier you are planing to use it? You cannot use sprint Galaxy note 4 on domestic GSM carriers like AT&T, T-mobile and their MVNOs (Straighttalk , etc). The phone can be unlocked for international GSM use (voice and 3G only, not LTE). Internationla unlock can be done officially through Sprint or unofficially via app in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...print-samsung-unlocker-unlock-sprint-t2928250
My question is how did you come across a Sprint Note 4? Did you not do your homework before acquiring the Sprint Note 4? Maybe you somehow got the phone for free? Why would somebody actually pay for a nice phone (released only a month or so ago) without knowing if it will work on a completely different network/carrier... then turn around and look for help on how to activate it on a GSM carrier? This makes no sense to me.
Im curious too.
Can a Sprint phone be unlocked and set up for use on ANY other carrier in the USA,
ie: Verizon?

I am pretty sure that if the phone had a clean ESN that you can activate it on Ting Mobile. I have also saw a thread where someone had flashed a T-Mobile Rom to the Sprint note 4 but they where not getting LTE of course I'm sure in time someone will come out with something stable.

I came up for upgrade in June. I was gonna go Nexus 5 and then the Nexus 6 rumors started to fly. So I waited and along came the Note 4. After much research I ended up with arguably the best phone on the planet. Imo it is.

1. No
2. Customers can switch devices by calling on a different phone to CS or going into store and switch devices, no unlocking necessary.
3. Just switch Sim cards and edit and tweak where necessary or pay someone if you dont know how.
4. Correct, but no unlocking necessary.
5. That depends on the person.

Yes yes yes it can be used with other carriers in the USA. Are people forgetting about flashing of modems and firmware. What decade are we in 1960? Our maybe 1950 when phone were still two way radios. Remember sprint can't stop everything Samsung does in making their phone. Ask the right questions to right people get right answer. If someone in XDA hasn't figured it out yet just wait & keep on looking. XDA is also not the only place to look for answers to everything Samsung, sometimes Samsung is were to look or Samsung blogs. All I hear is everyone that talks about Samsung first thing everyone says is it CAN'T be done. When are the tech, crackers, & hackers of this world going to stop saying everything is impossible & realize we are the ones that make everything possible. If we are going to do that why do we become techs or crackers or hackers or even developers in the every first place?.... LET'S STOP PUTTING LIMITS ON OU OURSELVES & SHOW SPRING WHAT WE CAN DO! Sprint is not GODZ. We created what sprint & Every carrier in the world uses to try to put limitations one everyone with. Are we going to let the carriers use or phones against us or are we going to use them the way the phone manufactures wanted the phones to be used ( without restrictions of the carriers of the world.)
after unlocking your sprint device you can only use it with carriers outside the USA. If you are planning to use it with local sim cards after unlocking like at&t and t-mobile (gsm) then you cannot.

Umm if its not under payments u can
Yep once the phone is paid for per new laws that went active in Feb or March if you ask the carrier to domestic unlock your phone they are required to do it by law. Some models this will not be possible but the note 4 should. I think the carriers have a grace period to make this available. Not sure how long. I could quote the legislation but Id have to search for it.

B to the S. If you can unlock a 720t a note 4 can be unlocked!! Period!! It picks up signal just no antenna for that signal because the phone antenna is tuned in the wrong station or radius degree. I think if the people who can unlock 720t s can try the same methods with busy box or Verizon modems. Like guy said earlier " Si se puede"!! It can be done!! Just need to tweak frequency angles and remove face security options a little.
By law you can have it unlocked for a limited time, but that will not make the LTE radio magically work on your carriers band unless they support the same band. Or unless you know someone who can JTAG flash the radio to another carrier as well you will not be able to use the LTE/DATA band on a carrier that does not support the frequency. This is nothing something that can be done over USB or by a new kernel. This will have to be done with JTAG and by someone who has access to the various carriers radio firmware which is tightly guarded. So basically you will be using a Note 4 on 3G only. Might as well just sign up with SPRINT then, you will get the same service speed.
So - this is my 1st Dual-SIM phone, and I'm very happy to get away from having to carry 2 different phones (personal on T-Mobile; work on AT&T - in the USA). I thought that everything had been working correctly - until I was away from my Wi-Fi signal. If I have SIM1 selected for data (T-Mobile), everything is fine. If I select SIM2 - I get nothing. It always shows 3G for AT&T even though I'm in a very strong 4G area for AT&T.
I've been through the Access Point Names settings for AT&T and they matched what I found on AT&T's web site. I even duplicated them with a new name to make sure that they were correct - still nothing. I've played around with which slot the SIM card was in as well as only installing one at a time (just AT&T in SIM1, just AT&T in SIM2, etc.) rebooting the phone each time - still no luck.
Hoping for an assist or "things to try" from the community as I don't expect much help from AT&T on an unlocked phones. Any help is very much appreciated!
Thanks!

Welcome to the DS family. Does SIM card manager show 4G/3G/2G enabled for both SIM's? On my older Note 8 4G wasn't supported simultaneously so you had to manually switch the 2nd SIM to 4G but on my Note 10+ this limitation doesn't exist but still worth checking.

That would've been too easy. Do you observe the same behavior if you swap the SIM card positions? Also what if you put in just the AT&T SIM by itself (i.e. does it ever get 4G in either slot)?

I've tried both slots with just the AT&T SIM - never get data and never anything but 3G. Strange thing is calls and texts go through...
Hmm, that sounds like it's missing an LTE band it needs to get 4G with AT&T. I don't have an AT&T SIM hand to test with but for the non-US Samsung phones don't have full support for the frequency bands US carriers use (I'm assuming you have an intl phone so correct if wrong.).
I have the dual SIM and get LTE on ATT. I reckon you need to contact ATT and tell them you are using a note 10+ and need LTE enabled.

Spent 2 hours on the phone with them last night. They had me set up the Access Point names over & over - no luck. They suggested I buy an AT&T branded phone. Big help...
I once came from another device to another device and had the wrong kind of sim for 4G/LTE. Or maybe the sim is damaged, or it's just registered wrong.
So: try Hard reset the device AND get a replacement sim card from ATT (can get them at the store and don't let them sucker you into paying for it). Perhaps that will do it.
Came across the post below - I do have an old AT&T SIM card (6 or 7 years?). Looks like an Android 9 update at some point caused issues with older AT&T SIM cards. I'm heading out to get a new SIM from AT&T tonight... Thanks for the attempts at helping - I'll update tonight and let you know how it goes. May be in for a fight - it's a corporate phone and I'm not authorized on the account...

So - I was able to get it working. I had been using the same SIM card for 6+ years. However, getting a new one didn't fix the issue.
They said that the IMEI number wasn't coming up as a valid number. I had a One Plus 7 Pro laying around, so I had them register the new SIM card to that phone, and it magically started working (the old Sim didn't work in it, either). After getting that working, I just moved the SIM to the Note 10+, and haven't had any issues, since.

I don't use Samsung Pay, but it was there lurking on the side (I disabled it). I use the Samsung Shop app for rewards - it works just fine.

Thanks what was the exact model number of your phone?
I guess it's time for me to sell my TMobile one and get the international one. I use the Samsung Pay / Cashback and Shop Samsung app from their set

Did you notice any signal degradation on T-Mobile with maybe lack of bands?
Lastly where did you buy yours from? If it was eBay what was the seller name?
Thanks
