hmmm....i assumed that the phone supported cdma and gsm carriers....it appears that i was wrong....

No idea what bad ESN means but you can't use a Verizon Nexus on T-Mobiles network. CDMA phone on a GSM network will not work.

No, pretty sure you hot confused by the penta-band part.
That's just for GSM frequencies.
The Verizon gnex is a different model number too, its the i515 and the GSM is the i9250.
I'm not 100% certain it won't work but I'm 99% certain.
Maybe someone else can second that for me.
Can you sell it on again?
EDIT: I see someone already posted and verified it before I posted this! Me derpsta!

Yes a verizon cdma phone will not work on a T-mobile gsm network. They are completely different networks. Now you may be able to flash the phone to work on another cdma carrier like boost or metro pcs. You would need to buy a european gsm version of the galaxy nexus to use it on t-mobile.

Not to pour salt on your wounds or anything, but here in Canada, BNIB Galaxy Nexuses are ~$450. $300 seems a bit high for such a fatal defect in the phone. Maybe this is Canadian pricing as all of our carriers sell the phone.
Hope you can somehow get some money back for it.

I doubt you'll get your money back. You should know what you are bidding on, never assume. I mean would you really give someones cash back because they made a mistake? Put it back on ebay and cut your losses.

You'll be lucky if you can resell it for $200-$250 with a bad ESN.

I'd buy it for $200...better than a galaxy player IMHO. There are a bunch of cdma/GSM phones. I have one...Droid 3

Yeah, there are a lot of them. Besides several different Blackberries, off the top of my head, I know that Verizon has had the Touch Pro 2, Droid 2 Global, Droid Pro, Droid 3, Droid Incredible 2, and the iPhone 4S. I know Sprint has also had several CDMA/GSM devices as well.
I really wish Verizon's Galaxy Nexus had been a world phone with GSM capabilities, but it's not. Then it would be absolutely perfect for me. But up until this point, Verizon hasn't released a LTE phone that also has a functioning GSM radio for global use. Some of them (Droid Bionic, Droid Razr) have a GSM radio (one of those CDMA/GSM combo chips), but the GSM portion doesn't actually function. There were some rumors awhile back that the GSM capabilities might possibly be enabled later, but I never saw where things went beyond rumor.

Don't you people know better to ask your questions here first before spending your money?
At least the seller was up front about the bad ESN. Now wonder if he was the one who stole the device, lol.

Probably covered already... but no, this will not work. Ever. You bought a paperweight. Could've bought a GSM model for $100-$150 more.
Its amazing that you didn't research before buying, and you spent $300 on a bad ESN phone w/o a plan on what to do with it. A simple 5 minutes on Google would have given you the answer.

There are people that will flash a Verizon Galaxy Nexus to Straight Talks CDMA phone part of their system....and I don't want to get into the whole flashing thing but that could be an option.

Actually it said
"But my test version, provided by Google just a day ago, relied on a T-Mobile SIM card tapping into an HSPA + network."
Which sounds more like it would be sold by tmobile at least.
I could be wrong though.
It's been posted elsewhere that the GSM version works on those networks. I read the article as simply meaning that the test model the reviewer was given was gsm, not lte.

Though I'd love for that to be the case, I really don't see how that is any indicator that T-Mo will be picking it up and selling it themselves. All that the above quote tells us is that the HSPA+ model is compatible with T-Mo's airwaves.
This thread is incredibly badly titled, given the huge assumption made by the OP :\
Thanks for the enormous cocktease.
I went to my Tmobile store and asked when they might get the Galaxy Nexus. The manager told me that Tmobile was not going to get this phone in their stores but it would be sold at Best Buy at some point. I went to Best Buy and asked them and of course they knew nothing about it. Why do they want to make it so hard for me to buy the darn phone? Makes no sense.
Close this misleading redundant thread !
This is very selfish of me but I hope it doesn't come to T-mobile. I want to buy this unlocked from overseas and use it with T-mobile and my legacy data plan. If T-mobile starts carrying it, they might end up filtering the device and force me to buy their more expensive, Android-compatible data plan.

Confirmed : Galaxy Nexus On The Way To ATT with 4G LTE

Though this may come as no surprise to some we have just received word from a very very good source that an unconfirmed number of AT&T SIM Cards (RS# 17-0700 and likely 4G LTE) for the Galaxy Nexus are going out for testing as we speak. Curiously the SIMS are standard and not the micro like Verizon Wireless. This means of course we can finally certify the release of Samsung and Google’s latest collaboration will be hitting AT&T in the very near term. I have to protect my source but this is coming from very close to the situation. We will keep you posted as more details come about. Are you on AT&T and have been waiting for the the official release of the G-Nex you can count on it soon enough. We broke this right here and we expect to be credited this time. Thanks.
Update: Our tipster just added that the SKU for these SIM cards is 73057 and that they do seem to be 4G LTE enabled!!!!

Bet you $50 it's only HSPA+. Note, that the email only said it was "likely" LTE. They're speculating. Then note that they're using MiniSIM not micro. The whole reason why they use MicroSIM in Toro is because they couldn't fit the LTE antennas and logic chips and the full sized SIM in the already larger housing.

Yeah kinda strange.
When I switched to the LTE-enabled data plan with an LTE phone IMEI number, they had to give me a new LTE SIM for my GSM GN. So maybe the article meant LTE SIM going to the field with GN test units?

I think you are right.
After receiving my new GN last Friday, I went to the local AT&T store to get a data plan. Contrary to AT&T ads there is no 4G in South Florida. My phone gets what is available: H+. I just had to move the Sim card from my Nexus One to the GN.
Since my Galaxy Nexus is not an AT&T I have no obligation to buy a data plan. I might drop mine after reading the speedtest
To Clarify
Since our entire post has been repasted here i felt the need to clarify. The SIMS are not at all phone specific and not sure how that was insinuated in the post. There is more information I may be cleared to release as to why it was necessary for these SIMS to go out and an enterprising mind that thinks on it for a while can probably figure it out. The problem is I cannot yet tell folks where the SIMS were coming from and where they were going. I also know how many SIMS there were. If I get cleared to release that info I promise to update the information. Lets for the sake of argument put the SIM card aspect aside. The important part is the document in question confirms the existence of the handset in question. Number one rule of journalism is protect your source. If i gave out that information that would put him/her at considerable risk. I promise there will be more info soon.

It would be shocking if AT&T wasn't buying USIM's without a LTE logo. Yes, logo. There is no physical difference between a UMTS 3G USIM and one used in LTE devices.
SOURCE: Gemalto, who makes most of the SIM's for AT&T
Damn and I just paid $498 for a GSM to use on AT&T. However LTE in my area is delayed so LTE model would be useless to me. Plus AT&T branding and bloat ware Yuck!
I have two upgrades in May due. If anything Id rather get a One X for $199 hopefully to try out and still keep my Nexus. Never tried Sense so who knows. I really just like the look and screen quality of the One X. I could always sell it for $500 if it doesn't work out.

we have photographs of these sims with no LTE logo thanks to our friends at radio shack so im sorry that is not entirely true. Also we know these SIMS have been being used since the 4th quarter of last year so we are aware that there is no difference. For some of you there won't be truth to it until the phone is announced but it's funny those are the people who scrutinize speculation the most. We have clarified the original story on our site for those people and for now we will wait and see. I'm only here commenting because my story is here. I don't care to convince anyone specific of it's validity, as for our readers, us reporting it makes it valid enough.

[Q] galaxy nexus 16GB & 4G LTE difference

hi everyone
so, I was watching a review of Galaxy Nexus because I'm gonna buy one,
& I crossed over this only in Cnet's review, they said 16 GB one is unlocked, & also the 4G one is thicker as they showed.
now my question is if I buy the 32 one, can I unlock it later? myself?
& also if it's true 16GB is thinner, how thin is it in hand? because I already took one 32GB in hand & it was not that bad to take in hand
Unlock it to use on a GSM network? No (at least not as far as I know), the internal hardware in Toro (32GB version) is different than that in Maguro (16GB version).
The thickness isn't really too noticeable for me, depending on what phone you are coming from you probably won't notice a huge difference when held compared to the Toro model, It has a nice quality feel no matter which one you choose.
I hope this helps!
The 4G is used on CDMA, there's not point in unlocking it as you couldn't use it on another CDMA carrier's 4G (such as Sprint).
The 16 GB is GSM, not CDMA. So depending on what network you plan on using it on, that should dictate which one to use.
Since I'm on Tmo, the GSM is the one for me.

Well actually, some GSM 32 GB WERE sold a LONG time ago, near launch. Samsung quickly discontinued this model however, and made it a CDMA exclusive for some reasons (only reason I envy my gfs Sprint Gnex).
Anyways, I've seen a few sell on eBay, but as far as everyone knows, they stopped making them, and I don't see why they'd start selling them exclusively there. Maybe a misprint?

Sprint and Verizon are cdma carriers who's contracted users cant use a GSM device, which is why they have their own versions.

Because this is better.
WHY would you ever want AT&T to offer this device???
$350 off contract is much better than paying $650 off contract or $199-$299 on contract at the carrier. It'd have carrier bloat, logos, locked down firmware (blocked tethering!) and slow updates.
If you seriously want an AT&T branded Nexus, you clearly don't get it...

There was no reference at all to Verizon.
Ummm...I'm going to assume since Apple and att pretty much go hand in hand and apple is trying to BAN the gnex with the current patent fight..

Well, AT&T still sells lots of Android phones. Apple can't tell AT&T what phones to buy, that's the pinnacle of antitrust.

they do sell other Android devices, but NOT the ones Apple is actively going after. And while Apple can't tell them what they can and cannot sell, I think it would be more of a conflict of interest. Yes...iphone has been released to other carriers but at one time att had exclusive rights to the device. Plus, like i said..Apple and att pretty much go hand in hand. while i have never liked Apple, it's good business sense for att. Kind of don't bite the hand that feeds/don't rock the boat?

That and none of the Android phones att has is technically in direct competition with the iphone. Am assuming there is some sort of clause in the contact with them

They don't go hand in hand anymore... Apple sells the iPhone on AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and another 5 regional / MVNO carriers in the USA now. Apple doesn't care anymore, they just wanna sell phones. It's a relationship of dependence between Apple and AT&T, simply out of necessity because Apple wants the access to the huge bucket of customers AT&T has, and AT&T just wants money.

How about the HTC One X, Motorola Atrix HD, Samsung Galaxy Note or Galaxy SIII? Not sure what you're talking about. AT&T carries all of the headline Android devices.

How on earth would a carrier branded, carrier updated, carrier bloated version of the Galaxy Nexus compete with the unlocked, GSM version that will work on Tmo OR Att?
Sprint and Verizon are cdma carriers who's contracted users cant use a GSM device, which is why they have their own versions.

There is a gsm gnex. And how does it compete? Try coverage for one! And two..it's a GOOGLE phone..no carrier bloat allowed

WHY would you ever want AT&T to offer this device???
$350 off contract is much better than paying $650 off contract or $199-$299 on contract at the carrier. It'd have carrier bloat, logos, locked down firmware (blocked tethering!) and slow updates.
If you seriously want an AT&T branded Nexus, you clearly don't get it...

clearly you don't get the point of a NEXUS device. Nexus is pure Google..no carrier modification. And i don't have a locked tether. Sweet..gsm faster...where you can pick up the signal. And i wouldn't give att a single penny for anything. Someone asked why att didn't have it. I have my opinion

I get great coverage in my gsm version granted the Verizon version might get some better download speeds but as far as everyday use there is not much difference my friend has a Verizon one and real world difference, he pays more s month to have one

Did you even read my post that you quoted? You're not making any sense at all.
You international guys are taking this question to a place it wasn't meant to go. The OP is just wondering why AT&T isn't offering it subsidized on contract..not asking for an AT&T branded and bloated GNex. Don't say this isn't possible, because both AT&T and T-mobile offered the Nexus S unbranded. Don't confuse Verizon's BS with the GSM carriers...

Why get AT&T version when T-mobile variant can be sim unlocked for $5

Title says it all. I'm running a 851 T-mobile variant with TWRP and AOKP (new rom posted today) on it. Same bands and LTE works perfect. So the question stands why don't you AT&T owners sell yours and do the same? More development is going on since the bootloader is already unlocked and the more using one version the better for development as well in my eyes.
Maybe there is a specific reason but what am I missing?
I'm on Sprint and paid 99 for my phone. That's the only reason.

Makes sense not switching carriers, and sprint is CDMA not GSM so wouldn't work regardless. Threads more toward the AT&T owners and all the Bootloader Bounty chatter....
Got ya. Us Sprint guys are in the same boat. If they succeed in an unlock I'm definitely gonna donate if they don't charge anything for it.
Well AT&T is the better network hands down so there's that and if someone didn't think about bootloaders and development before purchasing chances are they don't need or want to root so there's 2 really good reasons why not to sell an AT&T G3 for the same exact phone on another network. That and also that its the same exact phone on another network.
I did it, mine 855P is the same as international 855 but with LTE from Mexico and USA so I sold it and bought a T-Mobile just for the same price =D and I still have my wireless charger that came with my 855P + an upgrade from 16gb/2gb RAM to 32gb/3gb RAM, a good deal.

Well that exactly what i did had the 850 and sold it on ebay and got the 851. 851's are cheaper actually. Still on AT&T network, agree its the better network hands down. If I chose to sell this it can go either ATT or T-mobile and works on LTE for both.
I guess i don't see your argument at all..
That's really not a terrible idea, lol. I friggen hate having this locked bootloader on my 850. Does the TMobile variant have the EXACT same bands as the AT&T one?
My other option is to just sell this stupid thing and buy a Nexus X when it comes out.

Do it, I made money actually. And you can literally download the IMEI unlock app on Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.servtified.unlock_lg_g3&hl=en) and pay 5 dollars to have it working on AT&T LTE in the matter of minutes. You do need to add your APN info for ATT but that''s it, works awesome!
Yes it has the exact same bands identical.

Not an argument, actually a reason to be satisfied with their purchase is that its on AT&T. I'm on T-Mobile but I don't defend their service, just went through them to lease the G3 and not pay outright for it. Going back to Straight Talk soon since I already SIM unlocked it. I would hope that a normal non obsessed person would consider all their options for US variants and not go through the headache of switching carriers for the exact same phone and sell the other. Not everyone cares about unlocking phones, some people are satisfied with simply having them, I'm not one of those people, but they do exist.

Hear you loud and clear, but we are on XDA right? Having said that anyone on this forum is interested in having full control of their phone period.

Why would you assume that? I've seen plenty of posts by users running stock unrooted devices. Just because its not unlocked doesn't mean people don't have a passion for development.

Getting off topic, the point of the thread was for those who are on AT&T and want a unlocked bootloader. I dont think some people are aware of the logical move, and that both versions have the same bands.
