Does everyone use Light Flow? Any alternatives? Surely Google didn't ensure a multicolor LED be included with the GalNex only to program Android to make it pulse white? Google didn't include settings for the LED?

Used to use light flow until I realized it was causing excessive wakelocks and killing my battery. I would love to hear of a less battery draining alternative.

I use Lightflow when I'm running stock ROM, but of all the configs I've tried, the LED notifications in CM10 were far more reliable in actually being displayed. I still get missed notifications in Lightflow.
I was using this for a while.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...51bGwsMSwyLDEsIm9yZy5jaGF0Y2hhdG1lb3cuZ25sIl0.
It is surprising to me too that Google would include an RGB LED, yet only program it to flash white. I bought light flow and it's alright I suppose, haven't used it lately as it isn't terribly efficient. CM's LED settings worked best for me, although I'm no longer running the ROM. Would be nice if there was a standalone app that did the same thing.
There is another app, but IIRC it requires a module to be compiled into the ROM you're using as well as the actual app. Can't remember what the name is of course..
I used to use light flow but code name android ROM has them built in and they work perfect!
Never more Light Flow.Causing wakelocks a lot.Another app is Missed Call Reminder, but didnt work 100%.Only option - custom ROM.
I had the free version of Light Flow, and I found that it worked sometimes... Like if I set it to flash green for SMS and white for charging, I would get an SMS, it would still flash white, but I would hear the notification, I'd reply to the text, turn off the screen, and THEN it started flashing green....
I have a feeling Google will throw in settings for it in 4.2, much like Apple didn't enable the Bluetooth in the 2G iPod Touch until iOS 3.... For the record, I no longer have that iPod, because the update to iOS 4 made it impossible to use it was so slow, Apple screwed me over...
Anyway, I don't want to buy an app, especially if it doesn't work right, and especially if I can get these settings in a ROM. It would be ideal to have these settings in CM10, my ROM of choice, but I'm willing to try out this ROM or ROMs you guys are talking about, especially since battery life with the nightlies kind of sucks...Link me up?
Thanks for all the replies, too!
Never mind, I'll put a link up later today...I have it, I just wanted a link for other people who view this thread...

AOKP and LiquidSmooth is able to customize LED notifications. Maybe there are more ROMs, but those two for sure.

I haven't used light flow but I guess It would work the same(if not better) with Notification Lights customisation on Codename Android rom. It's built in with the rom settings and it's working fine. You can choose the apps and the color of the LED light.
Screenshot attached below on what it looks like and the link of the said rom is HERE
AOKP built in led customization works so much better than light flow
Swyped on my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP with Franco Kernel
Yeah that screenshot is exactly what I see on the...ugh I forget what it's called, C something Android, it's not AOKP or Liquid.... I don't like AOKP lol, the Unicorn thing kind of freaks me out...

Yep it's definitely Codename Android, I've just said that on my last post lol.
I know what you mean regarding the sort of whiteish mix. It's like that on my nexus as well. I have no idea about that.
Would also like the pure colors with no whiteish mix. Just like on the good ol' blackberry leds

Haha yes, Codename Android, thanks.
Light Flow doesn't do that tri white mix thing unless its a weird color like orange. If we got the right person, they'd fix it up for us...

I know Voodoo color was in, then out of the question for the Epic on CM9 Builds, as many seem to have different tints, etc. But power to the community, your voices are what count. If Acer got a thread going with actual results demanding the MDNIE be turned back on, then by all means, might as well ask everyone if you want Voodoo Color Back In.
CM9 Kernel is "supposed" to be the recommended Kernel that all CM9 Devs recommend you stick to, and although it is all nice and dandy, Voodoo Color has been a gift from above when used with my phone, the green tint is GONE. It's not a rant, or a bash, but one could say, just flash ShadowKernel, made by bbelos. Which by the way is doing a fantastic job on 3.XX kernel for us.
I don't want to make a billion choices for answers so I'll keep the options simple for it to be accurately tallied.
I really hope it doesn't get put in the stock kernel. There's just as many people who absolutely hate voodoo color as there are that absolutely love it. If it gets put in by default those of us who hate it are **** out of luck. People who love it are not as there always seems to be at least one custom kernel, if not all of the custom kernels, that include it.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk 2
It's better to have it.
If they include it, those who do NOT like it can go back to their green tinted screens with washed out colors.. by using the free Voodoo Control App.
As opposed to if they don't include it, then we don't even have the OPTION on the "recommended" stock kernel, thus forcing users to switch to Kanged Kernels.
I for one love it, put it back in. +1

I have no green tint with stock. I only ever get a green flash with voodoo color and the only way around it is to set the gammas to a level I honestly think looks horrid. Not to mention the fact that if I live with the green flash it still doesn't look at good to me as stock. Maybe everyone's eyes are different, but once voodoo color is even introduced, there is absolutely no way to ever get it to look like stock again, which is what the other half of us actually like. With it being a mostly 50/50 vote as seen in the past, I don't think it would be fair to refuse us who hate voodoo any choice in the matter. There are no custom kernel choices without it. Again, once voodoo color is introduced it never looks the same no matter what you set the values to.

Imo cm9 for our Epic's should remain the same as cm9 for any other device. If people want things included that the main cm developers haven't chosen to include in cm itself upstream then they should be the one's to use an alternative, not those of us who just want a stock cm9 experience.

Hm really? It looked similar to stock with the "2.3.6" Values to me.. I'm going to try and take pictures to compare..
Perhaps not all epics have a green-tint persay. I honestly NEVER noticed my epic had a green tint until an iPhone user pointed it out to me and put his phone next to my Stock CM9 Beta 1..

There's quite a few things that are device-specific that aren't included in upstream, which is why we have our own team.
I do agree though, I wouldn't want to blanket cover everyone.. perhaps an option to toggle it "on" or "off" under display settings would be good.

Yeah.. it should be possible, it's probably as simple as creating a class in the source code responsible for simply enabling /disabling the code for voodoo color. Somewhat similar to HTC's S-ON/OFF except we aren't messing with partitions, locking or unlocking them. (You get where I'm going with this, a simple flag "on/off")
Since it's in kernel, I too see this being a reboot for changes to take effect. I just hope a CM Dev has seen this poll already, if so please do share or PM devs on what you think.

I dont use it much, but would liek to have it as a feature.
I would like it even better if there was an on/off toggle
Bump with a yes (can't see the poll)
Indeed. I need it. The colors just look so scratchy and pale without it. And I need the voodoo sound as well. If the stock CM kernel had voodoo sound and color I wouldn't flash another kernel.
If they really prefer users stick with the stock kernel, then make one that has what we want. Right?

They perfer if your going to help debug the rom to run stock... otherwise they could care less what kernel/mod/theme you flash... I love voodoo color, but not for stock cm9... its supposed to be stock and it should be kept that way... that said I will continue to flash a kernel with voodoo sound and color support... cm9 will probably never have voodoo color by default, so just enjoy the kernels that do have it...
I see your point
For the love of God no. No a million times then no again.
I hate everything about voodoo color. It looks horrid no matter what the settings are.

Thanks for posting your voices guys, both yes's and no's. And fyi, the poll was able to be seen via desktop, although I think it has been closed now, I'll check if I can re-open it, although I do recall yes winning. And I never meant to make it the stock, but simply an option, CM9 is freedom. So why not have the freedom to choose Voodoo on Stock? I don't like third-party ker-nullz.

Oh, if it could be an option I could care less. I just want the choice of stock because I can't stand looking at my screen with voodoo or deal with "green screens". Hell if voodoo could be reworked so there isn't a green screen at "any" values and there was actually a value set that was identical to stock again, wouldn't care.

I just picked up the UK galaxy nexus and am in love! I love this phone! Coming from its predecessor, the nexus s, I'm amazed at the jump in overall performance and data speeds. Everything is buttery smooth, especially its GPS locking (something that lacked on the nexus s).
However, being a frequent flasher of new goodies in the development section, it has led me to ask what roms are worth installing. Stock feels impressively stable and quick. Battery life seems promising at this point but further testing would have to be done to be completely sure. Is there anything missing from the new roms today that stock just doesn't hold up to?
Any input is welcomed! Thanks.

You should take a look at aokp m5. Great customizing options, good performance and stable as Stock rom. I use it with Lean Kernel and battery life is also very good.
I also tried Gummy rom which was very good too but has less options than aokp.

What's aokp got that has the edge over others (ie stock)
Is there an app for led control? Free flow has weird permissions that it asks for so I'm hesitant to use that.

Uh. Yeah it does. It's been around for a LONG time and a lot of people using a GN uses that app. The app is developed by a professional app development group, why would they make malicious apps?
You're asking for a app to customize your LED. In order for that to happen, the app must have all those permissions to know when to light your LED in that specific color that you set.

Not naive at all. As long as a app has popularity around the Android community then I'm fine with it. If it's a new app with no ratings or not listed on any websites, I'll look into it some more.

Look at the permissions. They go with the app, it all makes sense. You want a app to perform checks on your phone. If that action is there, then it'll light up the LED in that particular color. It's obvious that you want a app to do a lot, in order to accomplish that you'll have to give permissions to that app.
If it's such a problem then don't install it. But if you want to customize your LED you WILL need to give access. And since you're flashing ROMs and all that, you're giving apps ROOT access. Are you going to question a app requesting root now? what about kernels and ROMs?
Someone uploads a radio, and so forth. When you flash ROMs, Kernels, etc it's a risk taker. Same thing with apps. Same thing with computers in general, same thing with life. Life is filled with risks and possible malicious attacks.
What's the fun in it when you're paranoid about every single little thing? Nothing. It's quite obvious that Light Flow LED is a app that ISN'T MALICIOUS as well as Google incorporated security measures to make sure apps being uploaded to the play store aren't malicious.
http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/2012/02/android-and-security.html
Not to mention Android is built on LINUX. There are viruses/malicious stuff on Linux but it's rare. Most malicious stuff come from third-party markets / downloaded APKs from unknown sources. Not from the Play Store, if it is on there then it will surely be removed.
If you're worried about permissions and all that of a particular party taking youre data? .. then that brings up the case of Google taking all your data for research and the whole debate of "privacy and Google."

It's not a opinion. It's actually a fact. I even included a blog post from Google itself in regards to a sandbox with apps.
No, there is no way you can control your LED without giving it massive amounts of permissions. It's like saying you want a contractor to do several fixes around the house but yet you won't give them permission to be in your house to do the fix.
It's impossible for a app to control your LED and have it function properly because in order for the LED to come up. It needs permission to CHECK the state of your phone to do the LED actions. Otherwise, the LED would just be popping up randomly for no reason or LED wouldn't come up at all.
I don't get how this concept is hard to grasp. Maybe when CM incorporates "disabling permissions from a app" will make you happier. This was in CM7.

Asking for a useless "feature", someone suggested lightflow, but you wanted to use native rom stuff, right?
Here's my thought to you: educate yourself, search before you post (instead of cluttering up the forum), learn how to code java/c++, set up a build env, hack the source. DIY. Use suggested alternatives, search around for other possibilities, get your hands dirty.
This is not Blackberry.

I know it's been touched on here and there (I.E.), but I haven't found a dedicated thread to it, and I know I'm definitely not the only one who is plagued by the annoyance. It seems like some have been able to get around the issue with the international version of the phone, but the North American version appears to be quite the hurdle. Either that, or the devs for all our favorite SMS apps aren't from the good ol' US of A, and don't really care about that feature. Either way, It's annoying to have cutting-edge technology in the palm of my hand without any reliable and simple means to have something other than a solid red LED regardless of the notification it represents. On the thread linked above, I noted that some were able to get a blinking notification, I've had no such luck. Perhaps they weren't rooted. I do recall the day I got my phone, before anything had been modified whatsoever, that the LED would flash blue, but once I got GoSMS Pro installed, it changed my SMS to solid red, and has been such ever since. Nothing at all that I have tried will change it.
TLDR: Has anyone found a way to stay on a custom ROM and/or launcher, AND set different color LED for notifications (as well as blink intervals) within the realm of SMS?

I thought about doing CM9, but last I read it doesn't look to be a finished product? I kept up with the thread on it for a bit after its release, and it seemed there were still bugs.

Awesome, I will flash it tonight, and play around with it.
Still curious if anyone has found a workaround on any TW-based ROMs :good:
Lightflow seems to be actively trying to work on the problem.

So after a couple of hours (20+ hours ) i have used stock 4.2 with root. No other modifications.
What I think:
-excellent speed, no lag or slowdowns
-excellent battery life with the new kernel
-the colors of the screen are much better!
-lovely new camera app
Everything is just perfect. What do you guys think of 4.2?

I love it! It's really fast, smooth and stable. Not a single problem in now almost two days. I like new additions, I got used to them right away. But, I've mentioned this before, the new "recent apps" is bothering me. It's really, really bothering me. I like that I can use the recent apps button while in-app to close it, but it stops right there. It's buggy like hell and it makes me feel like I'm on a nightly ROM each time I close an app. And I preferred the transparent look from 4.1. I seriously hope they'll fix it soon. Argh.
But, nevertheless, I love 4.2 - it's amazing.

There are some CM10 features I miss, and I would love a new kernel.
But yes, I love it too
Well, everything is perfect expect 3 things.
1. lockscreen is a fail... o.o... after i slide to other widget page do something and come back to page where i can unlock my device i have to press a button to get the lockring? O.O also when i resize widgets i gets the lockring to another page and doesnt save the resize wtf really?
2. recent apps is cool, but its laggy. swiping apps is laggy, dont know why? hope we get the fix soon
3. power widgets at notifaction thing is not really widgets. example: if i press wifi toggle, it doesnt turn off or on wifi, it just takes you to wifi settings where you cant turn wifi on or off

They didn't update the kernel, AFAIK. For example, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34085781&postcount=97

of course they updated the kernel! look at the build date! and if nothing changed from the previous kernel, they could have used that one. they used a new one, and there are new changes. look at the 4.2 kernel source and you'll see
Not entirely they fubar'd the internal sdcard. Now everytime you flash a new ROM it will create a new partition in the /sdcard/ titled /0/ and you're f'd if you need a backup because thats in /sdcard/ while you're in /sdcard/0/0 :S

The more I look at it, the more I believe that is not 4.2's fault, but the recovery's fault. They need to be updated.

I think it's rom fault because of the introduction of profiles!

For myself I won't say never, but stock isn't a bad experience now ugly color is fixed, better signal for me, and quick settings aren't that bad like many people claim... ^_^ I'm happy with stock for the next time also the other features like the keyboard slide thing is nice, and let us not forget photo sphere ^^ all in Google did a big step forward, like they did with the first jelly bean version ^^

You seem to not understand. The WiFi just shows which WiFi you are connected to. Only actually toggles there are airplane mode, bluetooth and brightness.
And you also seem a bit confused to the lock screen as well. But I'll let you figure that out

Guys I see many of you have lags and bugs, i suggest to wipe everything before flashing, that's what I did and I have no lag or bugs in recent apps or elsewhere...and I'm usually very picky about lags and framerate drops...really 4.2 is as smooth or better than 4.1.2 here...gmail and recent apps are smoother than ever, facebook feed scrolling is finally totally smooth, and generally 4.2 feels fast and solid, I see some nice tweaked animations here and there...
That being said I expected much more from the google development team, sure WP8 lacks a solid ecosystem, but the os itself has some cool features that I'd like to see on android...like the all in one chat app, or the app-personalized lockscreen...our lockscreen widgets can't even compare to that...seems like android team is out of imagination and is just implementing small and not useful things here and there instead of pushing boundaries

So...basically you want them to push boundaries but manage to release a very stable and solid ROM, sometimes as soon as a few months after the last release (4.0>4.1>4.2 in less than a year)? I somehow have a feeling if they had revolutionized the OS but couldn't manage to smooth out a few bugs, you'd be on here hating them for not releasing a stable ROM. I think maybe you should start deving and realize the time and effort it takes to bring new features with true stability.

Don't you think it's slightly unfair to expect so much from a point release?

I have noticed that my battery life has gone down, unplug the phone from charger, not using it, and withing 1-3 minutes, i am down to 99-98% battery
