[Q] Editing build.prop to disable OTA notification [SOLVED] - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Does anybody remember/know which entries in the build.prop file have to be edited to stop the annoying OTA notification from popping up?
It's either these two:
Code:
ro.build.display.id=IMM76D.L710VPALG8
ro.build.version.incremental=L710VPALG8
or these two:
Code:
ro.build.PDA=L710VPALG8
ro.build.hidden_ver=L710VPALG8
There're two more instances of this, but I don't think those should be touched.
Code:
ro.build.description=d2spr-user 4.0.4 IMM76D L710VPALG8 release-keys
ro.build.fingerprint=samsung/d2spr/d2spr:4.0.4/IMM76D/L710VPALG8:user/release-keys
I've tried replacing all of them with L710VPALI3 and got a soft-brick. I guess I could try one at a time. Anyway, if anyone knows, I'd appreciate the help. Thanks.
SOLUTION (Thanks JohnnyEpic):
Four out of 5 instances have to be replaced as follows.
Code:
ro.build.version.incremental=L710VPALI3
ro.build.PDA=L710VPALI3
ro.build.hidden_ver=L710VPALI3
ro.build.fingerprint=samsung/d2spr/d2spr:4.0.4/IMM76D/L710VPALI3:user/release-keys
You can either use adb pull/push or edit build.prop directly on the phone using Root Explorer or something similar.
Or you can simply download and install the flashable ZIP in the second post.

flashe the file with clockworkmod. still getting the OTA update notice

Did you accept it and let it fail? It may still have been in your cache.

No i didn't accept it. That may be what went wrong.

Took me a while to track this down, this is the best way to disable OTA updates. I have tried accepting them with a customer recovery and it fails but seems to come back within a few days. Have also tried freezing the update apps, that doesn't work very well either. Did this method this morning so far so good. I had to roll back a GSIII to ICS so callrecorder would work but it would keep nagging for updates.
I applied the same changes as above except I made the following changes:
ro.build.version.incremental=L710BLJ7
ro.build.PDA=L710BLJ7
ro.build.hidden_ver=L710BLJ7
ro.build.fingerprint=samsung/d2spr/d2spr:4.0.4/IMM76D/L710BLJ7:user/release-keys
Just download build prop editor from the market, it's free, make changes, reboot and you should be good. OTA update is very annoying when you want to stay on a certain build. Hope this helps someone, thanks again to OP for original information just figured I would share some updated info.

[Q] Kings Rom (Evo-via Flashover Patch) System Update

BEFORE you start flaming, I know this is an EVO rom, but these are Incredible-related issues. And I don't have enough posts in the general forums to be allowed to post in Development.
Now:
After installing it on my Inc(by installing it then using the patch made by IncDoes), I completed inital setup. After, the phone gave me the OTA update notice (for a Verizon update), and it WILL NOT GO AWAY. I know that it either will not install (due to me running a EVO rom), or, if it does, it will bork the rom. Is there a way to permanently disable this? The only method I've heard of (changing otacerts.zip to .bak), justs starts a loop. The image downloads, checks, finds it does not match certs, and restarts download. Plus the name returns upon reboot.
P.S: Anyone else using the Evo flashover patch (using a SENSE rom) and having these issues?
Thanks in advance.

You can change your build.prop to reflect a newer update. Idk the exact changes off the top if my head and I'm on my phone but that's gotta be a decent starting point.

No problem! Glad you like it!
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask.
I know there has to be some other explanation, but since flashing your ROM yesterday I have noticed a significant improvement in battery life. I'm not using all the exact same apps, so I've got a couple theories still but today is the first day I've ever been able to get to midnight and still be at 30% without once plugging my phone in.
I use Exchange, an updating weather widget, Gmail sync for contacts, Google Voice, and tons of other things. I'm usually barely able to stay above 30% by dinner time.
Not sure what it is, but I'm very happy!

One of the big things is that most of the garbage samsung adds in run in the background. So, by removing most of it this stops most random process' from running without your knowledge.. thus improving battery life and increasing the speed of the phone. Think of it like this, if you leave the refrigerator door open it will always be attempting to cool it's self. If you leave applications running even when the phone's screen is off and your not using it, it will still be working and using battery.
Curse you, dropbox with your traffic limits!!!
Anyone happen to have a mirror for this?
give me like 5 minutes
Well, due to a high download rate the links are down. I will attempt to have them back up soon and will include alternate links.
I'm attempting to modify my girlfriends phone, what does it mean it needs to be flashed over other EC09?
we have multiple different builds for our phone, dl17, ec03 and ec09. All of these builds utulize different modems, kernels, radios, systems, etc. If you were to flash this package ofer an ec03 or dl17 build it would only upgrade the system recovery and kernel.. making the phone either not boot, or very unstable.. So, by ensuring it is on a previous ec09 build it will prevent any potential issue. If your coming from a stock phone that is completly up to date then you simply need to flash this overtop.
If you are coming from another build, i recommend grabbing the complete update first then flashing this over to remove all of the bloat.
Let me know if you aren't able to download it.

[Q] Stop OTA Notification

Hey everyone!
I am rooted and bootloader unlocked. Inexperienced at flashing roms and don't have the time to experiment right now. I am getting the over the air V9 update nag and it is really starting to piss me off! I found this site that claims to have found a way to stop the nag for the OTA by faking the phone into thinking it already has it. Its for an older version of Android but I was wondering if the concensus thinks it will work and if someone can post an image of what the updated build prop should say so I can try this method out.
I have less then 10 posts so I cant post a link or a pic of what Build Prop looks like
Thanks,
Mark

It seems like I was able to find an interesting OTA notification kill method:
I have a GC FE 2.0 setup I like to use sometimes, and the OTA was annoying the balls out of me. Note that the new update hasn't rolled out to me yet. But on GC FE 2.0, the methods you guys described above did not work. I could not not an update file in cache. Instead, I did the following steps as described below and I have no update notification anymore. All the other threads regarding the GC FE 2.0 OTA update notification just turned into a "install GB, FE sucks" fest. :/
Here is what should work:
Open Root Explorer, browse to /system, mount R/W, long press build.prop, and select Open in Text Editor.
Find the line:
ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/SCH-I510/SCH-I510:2.3.6/GINGERBREAD/EP4:user/release-keys
Change this line to whatever the new ROM's equivelent build.prop's line is. I suspect that just "EP4" needs to be changed to "FP1".
Save the changes to the build.prop file.
Restart twice or more. I had to restart 3 times to get data back.
Disclaimer: Since I actually haven't tested this method with the new update, I don't know if it will work. Somebody will need to find what the line in build.prop for the new FP1 update is. You should be able to pull the build.prop from the new ROM or find somebody that has taken the update to get you the value of that line. Also, if puppies die because you did this, it's not my fault.

Don't update it. More than likely if you have twrp and root it will loop. I did mine this morning and it looped it. I had to factory reset with the lg tool. Just wait it out. The update isn't that serious.
Hey Danon, where did get the LG tool to factory reset? i feel victim to the same damn thing. Need to reset mine now.

First off, this question belongs in the Q&A not development
BUT. Regarding root, you never want to apply an OTA update, you never know if they could patch any rooting exploit and or lock the bootloader. Someone will most likely pull the update from the device and make us a flashable zip that will preserve root.
So for now do nothing at all
I have no intention of installing this update but how do I get rid of the persistent notification? It's annoying me.

I know on my S4 i337m when running the Google Play Edition ROM I modified this line in the build prop to the same line from the build prop in that update.
ro.build.fingerprint=samsung/jgedlteue/jgedlte:4.4.4/KTU84P.S001/140602:user/release-keys
I'm assuming it would work on ours too if anyone has their phone updated and can post that (ro.build.fingerprint) line from their build prop.
Is there anyone that maybe posted an update we can flash on our Rooted/Non Stock Recovery phones?

Longpress on notification then turn off notification.
I encountered same problem and used the following to go back to bone stock (reroot required if you did).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/general/firmware-t-mobile-lg-g3-t2818667
Before entering download mode, make sure you unplug USB cable, remove the battery and put it back in, press and hold the volume button and plug in USB cable, and relax.
This method won't wipe your phone.

Download "quick shortcut maker and search Network in the app. The second option under phone is Network settings. Choose that and select create shortcut. It will create a shortcut to network settings on your home page. I posted a picture of the app somewhere in the artmod thread as well as the GEE3 port thread.

What do you mean the first 5.3.1 version? Also, Take the build.prop from the 5.2.1 and replace it in the 5.3.1 The reason you get that is because there are mods in the build.prop to be able to use on the ls970, but when you flashed the "official" update it wrote over the build.prop mods we did.

I haven't flashed a Rom since froyo gingerbread days on my old LG optimus v lol. And thanks Art for the best Rom running right now. Also the links are down. They are taking me to sound cloud. And the ota isn't moving either.

I don't have the rom but I might be able to make you a flashable zip for the build.prop. Not today though. Maybe tomorrow. But all you really have to do is make a backup (just copy it somewhere else or pull it from /system inside the zip of 5.2.1 or the one from this thread) and then replace the one in the new update with the backup, and set the permissions the same as they were, reboot, and bam.
Here, I attached a 5.3 update (don't have 5.3.1) with the same build.prop with an updated custom OTA. It says 5.3 and is 5.3.
Flash this over the artmod rom.

Did you attempt to relock the boot loader? Check out the softbrick thread, that should get you up and running. You'll need to flash a bin file using lgnpst and that's easy to install. Everything is in the soft brick thread.
Thanks the other way was far to complicated!! Plus I couldn't understand dudes accent!!? I'll have access to laptop in morning. I have the 5.3 to reflash but I'll have to flash 5.2 first because I bricked the phone before you sent me the link. Thanks so much my buddy!!

Ha ha. What's the other way? Did you fund a YouTube video?
Here's the thread I meant if you didn't find it

The other way was the long way flashing back to stock. Sorry I been gone so long had a lot of personal issues!! Thanks for all your help and fast response!! One important question for you my friend!!? What do you type in the command prompt to get teeny bin started?? I can't get back into recovery mode unless I have the right command to type & it's not in any of the you tube videos!! I see the art mod Rom is all the way up to 5.4 now. I know my nephew is dying to get his phone back running again. I also had to factory reset my HTC one because I downloaded an incompatible app and couldn't use my internal storage or music pictures movies etc.. Sense toolbox on unrooted phone. Didn't work to well. So therefore I had to start from scratch again!! I also need the Sprint data apk. That's how I got the data working on the optimus g on art mod 5.2!! Works without messing with the apn settings!! So much easier!! It's hard to find everything all over again. Can you please bail me out once more!! I also want to try the art mod Rom for my HTC one m7 as soon as I can find a safe way to root it!! I meant the Sprint data zip not apk.

I see what you mean now, command should be "adb reboot recovery" But I think you need download mode, which is a combination of buttons, not a command. Try pressing volume up and down, holding power, then releasing when the phone flashes. Or hold volume up and power, then when the menu comes up I think you can select "download mode"
I understand the button push part. I was reffering to the part where it' says the phone should reboot at 67% or 83%. That's why I wanted to know what to type in. So do I type in "adb reboot recovery" then run and if that fails do the button press? I just wanted to get get the teeny bin moving. So far I have had it plugged in to download mode not knowing how to proceed from there.
