Ahh, this happened on my tablet. You must have downloaded a modded version (they never work.) Does it say "Application Not Installed" with a tick beside it when you try to install it? What you need to do is Google "Play Store 3.8.15 apk" Click on one of the results and download it and then install it. If it hasn't been modded then it should install fine.

I haven't downloaded anything. The thing is that it doesn't automatically update. Please provide me the link of the working apk file or any way through which it can automatically upgrade

Oh, I see where you're confused now. No the Play Store doesn't automatically update (not on any of my devices anyway..) Here's a link: http://www.mediafire.com/?wwcqrlfwt8o1gnv
I haven't used this one specifically so tell me if it doesn't work. You'll need a file manager to install it by the way.

That my device doesent allow non supported apps. I click allow, it takes me to settings and I click allow unknown sources and then it does that all over again as if I never allowed unknown sources. Enabling unknown sources isn't sticking for some reason.

I'm guessing it was the file managers I was using. Totally made me feel like a noob lol. I was trying with astro and oi file manager. Tried ES file explorer and it worked. My grandmother was flipping out that I rooted her kindle and hulu wouldn't play lol.

Some apps won't let you install them on a rooted device. The rom I'm running came with superSU. I go into superSU and disable superuser then reboot. After doing that I'm still unable to install the apps I'm trying to install from google play. Is there anything else I can try?

Ok, games require external sd in many cases to store their files. Since you are on a stock rom, you will need to flash a custom kernel for this to work properly.

I tried to install a Motorola Atrix HD messaging apk from another forum thread and it wouldn't install. I did some searching to see if I needed to be rooted to install it but apparently I don't. Is there anything I can do to get it installed?
Here's the link if you want to try it yourself:

under security in the settings menu do you have unknown sources checked?
Yeah it's been checked

Check your logcat after attempted installation to see why it didn't install. Sometimes vendor apks use libraries that are a part of the os. Porting these apks usually involves adding the missing .so files to the apk so the app can use them.
Hello, i have PROVISION rom on my phone HTC One V (PrimoU).
I can't start Google Play.
Previous version of google play didn't start .. (Crashed at startup... every time)
Google Play Version 4 can start, but it says no connection, i've tried almost everything.
reboot mobile, edit/delete hosts file.
(Time and time zone is correct)
Any help?..
Try this thread...download the proper file and flash in recovery. I had accidentally downloaded 4.2.2 instead of 4.1.2 and had the exact problem you describe.

Try going into recovery and wiping /dalvik-cache and /cache
If that doesn't work, download an updated version of google play store and install it

If you have adb, then try pushing a browser.apk into /system
Otherwise tomorrow I'll create a flashable zip with the browser for you
It's not that hard, simply i haven't a computer for doing it right now lol
