Probably because 98% of these rumors are complete BS.

More like 100% BS. Scroll down to the comments by "hoaxer".

I don't know why, but I find this hilarious. Thanks for sharing :good:

I don't find it hilarious at all. Once these "rumors" get out people are going to keep spreading them and then when the actual next Nexus and OS is announced people are going to complain that feature x isn't in there when it was supposed to be.

Of course they retracted that story. It made no sense to me. Google wouldn't create a "customization center" for Nexus devices to run a alternate UI. If I was a Googler, I would of been laughing at that too.

rumors are great; i still get the iMorons coming into my store going "hey can you show me the new holographic keyboard on the 5?"
sigh.

An end to fragmentation, better battery life, widespread adoption of AOSP in high end devices... it all seemed too good to be true.

Lol all because of some dumb two year old YouTube video.
I can't believe people bought that, can you believe how precise of a proximity sensor you would need for that and the cost that would entail?
nobody wants a 5000 phone I bet

It does exist as an accessory (and it has for some time) so it's not that farfetched.

Did you read what I wrote?
I never said it was "that farfetched", but that it would be ludicrously costly at this time to put into a phone.
I'm an electrical engineer, I know extremely precise proximity sensors exist but I also know that they aren't cheap.

If Samsung doesn't care about customers, how can it hope to keep them? | The Verge
The Galaxy S is only a year old and already abandoned. I am going with the fruit phone next time, at least I know apple will update my phone for years after the sale. And real updates, not bug fixes.

Go get your iphone then.
If you have the mindset that allows one piece of sensationalist journalism to sway you that much, then that's probably just the phone for you.
You see, the thing is:
The author of the article in the OP is doing it wrong:
He completely glosses over the idea that Samsung actually has this right, for the average user:
The Galaxy S DOESN'T have the RAM or the resources to properly run ICS.
Why in the world would Samsung want to push an update to a device that it's just going to run poorly on? (ESPECIALLY to a device with that many millions of users).
Actually, I'm a little disappointed in The Verge for allowing such an awfully-written article to be posted, as far as the one-sidedness of it goes. They've become one of my favorite places on the web to go to for my tech news, but it's definitely NOT because of articles like this.

The Galaxy S has the same specs as the nexus s. And why are you so offended that I am going with an iPhone lol. Is your life so empty that you feel the need to cheer for a corporation? I don't get fanboyism, never will. Samsung has screwed their customers repeatedly since the first gen of android devices, and people are starting to catch on.

They might have the same specs, but the Galaxy S comes with TouchWiz. The Nexus S doesn't. Difference explained?
Don't be surprised that the developer version of a phone gets the updates and the mass-sold consumer version with branding and skins does not, however inconvenient.
Apart from that, they have supported it for about 19 months now through 3 major releases, instead of their promise of 18 months and a minimum of 1 major release.
So he bought the phone with Eclair, it got an upgrade to Froyo and another upgrade to Gingerbread and he's *****ing that he wont get ICS?! The Galaxy S has already had TWO major OS updates, do people really expect these things to get every major update as long as they own the device? The sense of entitlement that some people seem to have is absolutely rediculous.

Fanboyism?
WTF.
Look at the facts, and maybe you'll understand...
(I'll take this slowly, but try to keep up.)
I know that the Galaxy S and the Nexus S have the same specs:
That's common knowledge.
But:
The Nexus S doesn't have to run Touchwiz, hence the update.
The Galaxy S would HAVE to run Touchwiz, so it would have to also be included in any update, because THAT'S WHAT 10+ MILLION AVERAGE USERS WOULD EXPECT TO SEE, THE SAME UI THEY HAD THE DAY BEFORE. (sorry for the Allcaps, but it's just frustrating to me that someone doesn't understand this.)
Touchwiz, in an update with ICS, would BARELY fit:
It might run, but users would quickly get low storage space messages, and memory-issue crashes.

They treat you best?
How, by giving you updates that your phone can handle?
You applaud them for that, yet you think it's a bad thing when a company (Samsung) wouldn't send an update to a device that COULDN'T properly handle one?
Apple's way around the issue is to rarely update their hardware, so that it can handle any update they throw at it for 2+ years.
Samsung (and the major Android manufacturers in general) deals with it by continuously pushing the envelope by releasing cutting-edge hardware, and then updating software to the devices that can handle it.
Which would you rather have? 2 year old hardware, and last year's updates, or tomorrow's hardware and tomorrow's updates?

As I have said repeatedly, unlike some, I don't cheer for corporations when it comes to plastic with electrical components inside, I just go with the company that will treat me best, and from the looks of it, Apple appears to be that company with a record of providing almost 3 years of true os updates (bug fixes don't count). Whatever tips your balance off course, for many it would be because of other things but at least this is honest reasoning.
Shouting that Samsung lied to costumers and mistreats them is just stupid and shows no understanding of market mechanisms, but displays tunnelvision instead.
I understand it sucks, having had an Omnia2 before my Galaxy S2, but it was known beforehand that the updatecycle would stop somewhere at the end of 2011, as it is to end at Q3/Q4-2012 for the Galaxy S2. By that time the same discussion will start, this time about the Galaxy Nexus, with the same stupid arguments, petitions and tears.

This is the crux of the whole thing:
I would never, in my worst "phone-geek" nightmare, dream of owning the same device for 3 years, I don't care which phone it was.
That's an eternity in terms of technological advances, and if that's what you're looking for: a phone that'll still be updated (software-wise) for 3 years, then an iphone is EXACTLY what you need.
I'd rather have a hole in my head than to be stuck with ANY phone for that long.

If Samsung didn't honestly care for it's customers people would have never gotten an update at all.
It's entertaining that you're white knighting yourself with the supposed honor of refusing to buy Sansung devices because of them no longer supporting year-old hardware.
Things move fast, the employees that make the updates at Samsung don't have any obligation to continue to work on old hardware.
The Evo Shift isn't getting ICS and it released after the Galaxy S line. Is HTC suddenly not carrying for its customers?
Why, exactly do you care?
Your device WILL get ICS and the chances are you are rooted and even if it didn't [get ICS] some developer(s) is/are working on it.
Hell, I'm sure that rooted Galaxy S users will get it.
Enjoy getting gimped updates with features cut out once your apple device is no longer the top-of-their-line.
There is absolutely no reason for people with a device that old to expect ICS via their manufacturer.
You're basically saying that Samsung should update phones that it shouldn't really be on to it, providing a lackluster User experience.
The users would get all sorts of issues with it and no amount of features would change the fact that some of the issues would push that customer away from that manufacturer.

So sorry that Android's updates are taking much bigger steps than IOS' updates.
I believe the thing that the OP doesn't take into account is that even apple phones usually become to slow for the latest and greatest iOS version after 18 months to 2 years. In which case, you are back at square one if you had bought any number of android phones.
Regardless, 6 in one hand, half a dozen in the other.

Damn it, I am pissed! Screw corporate america! Where's my tent, I'm going to "occupy" their headquarters!!

Apple is perfect position.

OK first off I'm not an apple fanboy or any fanboy for that matter I love tech and gadgets. Second it is a sad day for many people like me because I am tied to sprint for life probably mainly because of price and unlimited data. (That's not the sad part). So with that said I am tied to their phones and right now with the current phones and android it is a sad cluster f$%#. ICS is great just on its own but Sammy and HTC don't care. Updates come like whenever, maybe 8 months later to a year maybe never.
All future phones on sprint are a letdown at this point sg3, evo one, galaxy nexus is great but no lte. Android is just a hot mess I don't even know the point of pure Google of only 1 percent actually have it.
Apple is in perfect position because if the iPhone 5 is bigger and beautiful and powerful its a wrap. Once lte is up I can't find any reason to stay with Android or anything other. Google paved the way for apple to crush them because they have no standards. I have used android pretty intensely and its just all over the place. A bigger retina better battery iPhone will be a killer. And who knows what IOS 6 will be.
I know many of you will flame but if you can't understand at least one point then you are blind. I'm not bashing Android I love ics and wish I had it running perfect on my phone.

I don't quite see how android is a mess? Just because Samsung has touchwiz and HTC has Sense? You do realize that both companies do provide updates to their phones right? Yes, I realize the move from Froyo -> Gingerbread -> ICS isn't fast...but that's copmarable to IOS 3 -> 4 -> 5 (which is also about once a year). The minor updates in betweens are generally fixes for things, and a lot have been purely to patch exploits by jailbreakers which further locks the phone down. Officially our phones have recieved 2 updates, and we're waiting on the official 3rd to move to ICS.
The new iPhone will be a hit...because it is an iPhone, simple as that. The bigger size will attract some more people, but seeing how the 4S was a lackluster upgrade and it was Apple's top selling phone, crushing any android phone's sale. This next one will do the same. Personally, and I'm guessing for many on XDA who enjoy modding the crap out of their phones, iPhones aren't really an option...especially the way it is now making jailbreak exploits even harder to come by.

I already have a CDMA Verizon nexus.
I order a GSM nexus and got it yesterday.
The difference between the two screens is so ridiculously noticeable I want to smash the phone
The original verizon one is vibrant and bright.
The new gsm one is dull looking. it flickers slightly when I do solid color tests. whites look dull.
Absolute fricken BULL ****.

Dont feed the troll my little [put in any word].
Maybe you just got a bad one?
Thought about it?
I've had both and never noticed a difference between the two. Maybe something is wrong with your new one.
Its a common thing as ive read in other posts but its googles fault for allowing it to happen.

He a troll, anybody with half a brain would just ask for a replacement if it was that bad/defective. I got a lemon evo 3d,, posting a thread bashing the phone isn't gonna fix it, Radio Shack replaced it immediatly. In before lock!
I received a terrible screen from Verizon for my first phone. I was dull, and had weird banding and a dead pixel... They did t believe me until I made them compare mine to a display model. The only issue I had getting a new one was that I had accidentally let the play store re download titanium backup. They then tried to say I was rooted, root checker failed, then they tried to aay the app broek my screen.....

point of sale?!? It's their Nexus phone. GOOGLES PHONE. They have a responsibility, THEY ARE THE QUALITY FILTER TO THE END USER
same as CISCO FOOD filters out horrible food products. What happens if Cisco lets a shipment of bad tomato's in. Customers supposed to blame the farmers?? no they blame the POINT OF SALE CISCO

i'm going to make this simple for you since you clearly have no understanding of how this all works.
google hired samsung to manufacture the phone.
samsung makes phone and QC checks their batches.
samsung then packages and sends phones to google for sale
google takes ALREADY PACKAGED PHONES IN THE BOX and sells them
do you honestly believe google is going to open up sealed boxes and check every phone? if you do, you are completely insane and need to be checked in somewhere.

fixed for you.
To the OP:
Please tell me you've never, in the history of your life, purchased a product, brought it home only to open the package to find its defective. Tell me you never had to return a product to get a replacement, or simply return a product because you weren't happy with it??
If you haven't - then you have horseshoes where the sun doesn't shine... Products aren't HANDMADE anymore... quality control nowadays goes as far as checking 2 or 3 phones out of hundreds on a production line.
Come on man, be serious.

Worthless?
Can the GSM good ol' boys club please be act a little more mature?
@OP: Get it replaced. Typing a bunch of expletives isn't going to fix your screen.

Seriously... why so much rage? If its actually defective, have it replaced.

Samsung V Apple verdict is coming

If anyone wants to follow along it's being liveblogged on the Verge
http://live.theverge.com/apple-samsung-verdict-live/
I have a feeling that they will be found both guilty of violating each other's patents, similar to what the South Korean Court ruled.
I've got an apple and my apple-stomping boots on... just in case I need to let some steam off...

Bad start for samsung :/
Who didn't see it going this way... To bad it the trail was in California... Like apple's home turff. F*ck you Apple!!! I don't care if no other Android Phone come out in the states, I'll rock my SGS III until the end of time, or buy internationally.
Sent from my SGS III
Are the phones that are found guilty now banned in the U.S? I'm not familiar on how the system works.
Doubtful... But there going to have a hell of a time making phones in the future that dont infringe on "Apple's patents".
Sent from my SGS III
Personally I find it ridiculous, and honestly a cheap way to eliminate competition, I feel like Apple would sue if a phone has a "home" button on it! :/
bad start indeed for Samsung ... I guess the jury is completly clueless about technology... Some decisions are absurd

Next up, Apple suing flooring company's because the tiles look too much like an Iphone.
This only heightens my hatred for Apple. Tempted to beat up anyone who goes into an Apple store.

Maybe Samsung should consider redoing what it did with the Galaxy Nexus, No TouchWiz, just a thought.
hulk smash bad apple!
I'm gonna go ahead and say the "official" Jelly Bean update just got pushed way back... Good thing im rocking AOKP
Welcome to the future peps... Locked down Apple world.
I think im going to go to my local apple store and walk around, and every time a employee walks up to me and ask if they can help, im going to argue with them about how much better my phone is than the iphone.... Maybe that will cheer me up.

Have you checked/heard about South Koreas decision? Samsung actually came out ahead.

Anyone even curious about the new iphone

or even considering trying it?
lol...
Nope

Vaj tswv is the creation of people with nowhere left to turn
Of course I'm curious, but I'm sticking to my Galaxy Nexus.
Lol JP Morgan says it could boost slightly the national gdp

If you cant beat em...join em...or somethin...
I'm curious to see how far the new iOS is still behind Android. As far as the new iPhone itself, I'm a little curious as to which Android device its specs most closely resemble.
In other words, I'm curious, but in no way would I be even remotely interested in owning/using one.
I think I'm more curious with the looks and camera more than the ios. Honestly, I dont think we still have a high quality android device that matches it in materails. I mean, samsung was coming close but now they may be banned to sell their android phones. So much that they may dump android and jump on the windows bandwagon. Can we put android on the new iphone? heh
Can wait for this revolutionary device to be unveiled
no b/c I know ios would bore me to tears....
Not concerned at all. But Apple should be. HTC has stopped the iPhone5 from sales in the US because of patent violation regarding to the LTE network support inside the phone. Samsung has been revenged! And justice for all!

Does the new iphone have lte? This event tomorrow should be interesting then.
Yes it has. But not for long... When the image is bigger than the content.... then you have Apple. Innovation or just a dirty plays in the court? For Apple that will be enough, let the other companies work hard in the scientific field - we will just take the fruits from them. The apples

If it will, Samsung and their 800+ LTE patents would have a problem with that.

not even remotely interested and i hope they're banned from being sold for all the **** they've caused just cause they can't take some competition. they're on a downward spiral regardless, i dont think they have what it takes to keep being "innovative" like they were under Steve Jobs, so they'll continue to make blatant knockoffs while not improving and Android will skyrocket to the top.
Nope. Since getting the Gnex neither the GS3, the One X, new iPhone or any other new phone has interested me. I don't expect to get the new phone itch until the next Nexus is released.
curious - yes. i'm curious about any new "toy" coming out.
consider getting it? - NO

One x is a pretty good phone. If it didn't have capacitive buttons, I'd jump on the bandwagon. flash jelly bean and I'd be set.
