Ridiculous crap screen - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I already have a CDMA Verizon nexus.
I order a GSM nexus and got it yesterday.
The difference between the two screens is so ridiculously noticeable I want to smash the phone
The original verizon one is vibrant and bright.
The new gsm one is dull looking. it flickers slightly when I do solid color tests. whites look dull.
Absolute fricken BULL ****.
Go eat **** google

Dont feed the troll my little [put in any word].
Maybe you just got a bad one?
Thought about it?

I've had both and never noticed a difference between the two. Maybe something is wrong with your new one.

Its a common thing as ive read in other posts but its googles fault for allowing it to happen.

You know Google doesn't manufacture the phones, right?

Increase brightness
joking.. sorry :silly:

Then go back to using the worthless CDMA verizon phone...can't believe you are serious.

It is actually the manufacturing facility's quality control that has failed. Google is just the point of sale. You don't get mad at Best Buy and call them F Ups if a PlayStation bought there is a lemon, why should this be different because it is Google?

is this supposed to be an AMOLED vs. LCD-rage-thread, or did the OP just receive a device with crappy screen and is now blaming google for it?
both options are so embarrassing I'd really like OP to smash the Nexus... in his face.

He a troll, anybody with half a brain would just ask for a replacement if it was that bad/defective. I got a lemon evo 3d,, posting a thread bashing the phone isn't gonna fix it, Radio Shack replaced it immediatly. In before lock!

I received a terrible screen from Verizon for my first phone. I was dull, and had weird banding and a dead pixel... They did t believe me until I made them compare mine to a display model. The only issue I had getting a new one was that I had accidentally let the play store re download titanium backup. They then tried to say I was rooted, root checker failed, then they tried to aay the app broek my screen.....
Tl;Dr just get a replacement and stop whining.

NO its about a huge inconsistency in screen quality from nexus to nexus, amoled to amoled.
THE SAD THING IS, most people WOULD NEVER KNOW, because you cant tell how ****y your screen is until you compare it to a non ****y one

i'm going to make this simple for you since you clearly have no understanding of how this all works.
google hired samsung to manufacture the phone.
samsung makes phone and QC checks their batches.
samsung then packages and sends phones to google for sale
google takes ALREADY PACKAGED PHONES IN THE BOX and sells them
do you honestly believe google is going to open up sealed boxes and check every phone? if you do, you are completely insane and need to be checked in somewhere.

To the OP:
Please tell me you've never, in the history of your life, purchased a product, brought it home only to open the package to find its defective. Tell me you never had to return a product to get a replacement, or simply return a product because you weren't happy with it??
If you haven't - then you have horseshoes where the sun doesn't shine... Products aren't HANDMADE anymore... quality control nowadays goes as far as checking 2 or 3 phones out of hundreds on a production line.
Come on man, be serious.

Considering a nexus prime doesn't exist... There's a lot wrong.
Nexus prime was a rumored name.. It's actually called galaxy nexus.

The nexus prime dosen't exist, it never did, it was the suspected name for the phone for months but since it was launched it has been reffered to as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, if the place or person you ordered from said it was a nexus prime then it's probably fake.

Its fun to joke about, but seriously do this! I saw someone in one of the early Expansys/Clove/Handtec threads (one of the Euro importers) report that he missed delivery of the phone, and had to go pick it up at the distribution hub. He signed for the package, which indicates that he took the package and was OK with the condition of the materials. He then opened the box when he got home and found that someone at the shipping co had opened the box, taken the phone, and replaced it with something of similar weight. Extremely rough because it is super troublesome to deal with the shipping co and especially the importer who's based outside the US.
I plan on opening mine at the counter at FedEx when I go to pick it up. Not gonna take that kinda chance. I also requested the package be held at the distribution center, rather than taking a chance that I miss delivery and it sits on the truck for too long. Super tinfoil hat, but damn its a $575 package, I'm gonna check that **** first.

[Q] Getting Google Nexus phone for family member - any issues I need to be aware of?

Just a background info: I have a young family member that needs phone and I have bought her at first a "cheap" Android phone from Virgin Mobile and that was a disaster (slow, froze all the time, etc.). I replaced that with a supposedly powerful phone - Virgin Mobile Motorola Triumph. That is another disaster, as the phone was launched half-baked. If you Google this phone, there are issues from the phone ringing only once to running out of storage because the phone keep generating large alogxx files.
Anyways, she is getting tired with these issues (and so am I!!) and I want to get her a pure Google phone - the Nexus. But before I jump in and buy this, is there any issues with this phone that I need to be aware of? Keep in mind the issues I mentioned above, which made the using an Android phone really painful for her.
Thanks!
Pure Google =No Issues. It's kind of understood around here, not that I expect everyone who posts here to know that.
I would venture to say it's as good as it gets, the Galaxy S III has better specs, but a few issues and hey, you can't beat Pure Google, we'll be first to Android 4.2, whatever it's called.

nah, just don't go anal on the screen.
AMOLED screens get burn in from images that don't change over long periods of time (nav bar), but that's... eh no big deal otherwise Samsung wouldn't use AMOLED, also found in S III BTW...
You'll see a lot of threads about weird charging behavior, that's this phone's main issue. Every phone has its issues and this one is rather menial, not like a power button that tends to break...
I haven't updated my profile for the new GalNex....

The screen is an issue look at the sticky on the top of the Q&A section.
After updating to JB, the sound is ridiculously low. Volume+ is the solution for ICS but not working on JB. That is the main issue of this phone.
Don't want to put you off but I have had issues with the hardware. The USB port is dodgy and known to fail, with lots of strange charging behavior as already mentioned in this thread. Also they are prone to dieing and you have to plug it into a USB port with no battery to revive it. Maybe I was unlucky with early versions, or have they still not fixed it?

Not us...people who want to get one, they should hold off. It cant be worse than the current one...that would suck. (not saying its a bad phone...just saying that they new one shouldn't be worse than the old one) :fingers-crossed:
Aside from the screen burn-ins and discoloration in low brightness, the phone is actually fantastic.
Even the relatively outdated 5MP camera is actually pretty good. Although it has less MP, the quality of the sensor is actually great.
Also, just give your daughter the pure Google experience. It's almost flawless in terms of software (IMO), so it'll be a welcome change from her previous two phones. Just treat her well with the G'nex before she gets iPoisoned and we lose another poor soul to the dark side:crying:

EXACTLY!! She has been eyeing the iPhone 5!
But honestly, she was getting tired with the Android "experience", especially with the last 2 phones. The Motorola Triumph was $299 and it was piece of crap! This gives Android a bad name. This 3rd phone, the Nexus, HAVE to be the right one... seeing it's Google who sells them, not Virgin Mobile or some other carrier.

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S4 Made in China

Just got my SGS4 from T-Mobile and I haven't even unboxed it yet. But I noticed that the box says "Phone Made in China." I've seen quite a few unboxing videos for the AT&T and Sprint versions and the box said the phone was made in Korea. I guess it doesn't really matter where the phone is made, but I found it interesting that there is a possibility that phones for different carriers are made in different countries.
Too bad! I rather have phones made in Korea rather than China! For some reasons, China makes the phone feel cheaper.
Yep, my S4 was made in China as well... Perhaps this explains the massive amounts of availability on T-mobile?
The proof is in the pudding, but as a general rule I don't trust the Chinese as much as I do South Koreans.

Hey to all the early S4'ers, before this forum get's HUGE!
Yea sucks to have it say Made in China, but for what it's worth, it's still made by Samsung China division.
There's no doubt there are sometimes quality issues, although small with phones made in China vs S.Korea which are superior.

Samsung outsourcing to China is just typical corporate business model. Its probably just more economic business sense to supply the material to the abundant and specifically designed electronics factories in China, and then pay what is probably a substantially lower wage to the readily available Chinese worker than they would to the South Korean. They are highly westernized in South Korea with an economy not unlike ours here in America and that's not to mention the business and goods China is probably throwing back into South Korea...its a corporate to government handshake and doesn't in any way signify an inferior quality in the product. Rest assured that the quality control would have to be just as strict in the Chinese plants to ensure the brand premium that Samsung represents and requires.

Auto adjust screen tone or auto brightness? Also, you might want to check Adapt Display (don't know if that's an app or setting), but I believe it's supposed to automatically adjust brightness depending on the app you're using. That's my guess.

Turn off your Adapt Display mode. It's there to change the look based on the type of media you're looking at, be it photos, videos, web browsing, etc. It's not a problem.

Samsung halting Note7 production: They think it's all over? It is now!

https://goo.gl/OVRwDe
Samsung has reportedly halted production of the Galaxy Note 7 in association with China and US authorities after several replacement units caught on fire.

I read this but you know, out of how many million phones have been sold only 8 phones have caught fire. This doesn't mean all Note 7's are bad. In a mass produced item there is some fallout. Now this is a doozie no doubt but at least give Samsung a chance to investigate. I have a Note 7 and absolutely love it. If I have to send it back I will. But I aint gonna go turning it in just yet. It would be different if there were hundreds catching fire. But only 8 out of how many.... This just my opinion though.

As of now, it's a temporary stop. Not permanent.

This stop is likely a temporary one for safety until they can investigate all the reports. That way if there IS still a fault they have limited output. If there ISN'T them they can just restart.

8 over what time frame? Curious to see if they rolled the dice how many of these would flame out over two years. I bet enough it would shock most people.

2nd deja vu happening again , now they are dealing with ion batteries not other hardware or anything , dont think samsung wants a third one , one thing i dont understand is why would they recall the whole set rather then recall the battery
Ugh, how could there be a second issue.
Anyone want to guess at the second issue?
Phone too thin? Part poking the battery? Battery not actually fixed? Different battery issue? Bad batteries made it in? Chemistry wrong?
It's over. Production won't be started again, stopping production is a massive thing and Samsung obviously know they have a design fault . Samsung will cut its losses and scrap the Note 7 because the brand is now ruined and trust is lost. Very sad.
I think it's more An economic decision. Until they are sure there's no problem, why continue production?

If they were confident in their engineering and knew there was no problem they wouldn't stop. They obviously think there is a problem and are winding down. Theyre not going to say straight away there's a fault and "recall", it'll be "were looking into it". The phone is done for.

I'm just gonna wait and see what the say before I turn mine in. I can always go back to my N4 if need be. Dunno on your question, good point too and what plant they can be tracked to.. If they have multiple plants.

I really love N7 in term of hardware and what Samsung has done to the Note series to make it what it is today minus the problematic battery. Really hope they can bounce back for the N8. Shame that this may be the end of N7. With it, I do not know if there is a point of keeping the phone since halting production can also mean slow and can possibly stop software supports??!?!?
I'm just curious why there are no such cases in the rest of the world???it seems only in the US and in Taiwan ??
yes that's right
What ever is going on media is slowly killing the device... even me that loved and wanted this phone for ages are starting to wonder. I still doubt that any of new events are true but company like T-mobile with Apple help are killing this device. They don't need any proof they will be always able to fake an accident and this will be always a hit to Samsung... The best phone in world and with such problem it starts to become the worst... Who knows what will happen I'am still waiting for mine. Ordered on AUG17 and now should get it on OCT17 but this can always change. It's so SAD because with this N7 Samsung would 100% killed Apple and would have a more solid ground next year.
No explosion in EU, yet. Only in USA and Korea. Strange

This. If anything the last couple of weeks made me hate the media even more (if that's possible). Hate is a strong word but there's something fundamentally wrong in our society with the way news are transported. Most of these articles are so phony it screams staging.
Nobody knows the true extent of the numbers. Only Samsung and it's not going to ever reveal the true figures. Even if it says it has. However aggressive anyone feels about the news coverage, certain sites have done a lot to verify their sources. Problem is a large company like Samsung cannot move as fast, plus investigating all the issues is not a quick process.
Regardless of the above paragraph , Samsung would not have done the first recall, now be stopping production temporarily if there wasn't a real issue.
I do wonder why there have been no reports in the EU too. It could mean there haven't been any, and or Samsung silenced any that had arisen. Don't forget not everyone wants to take a photo and upload to social media.

We have 230V with a fixed 'zero' and only Exynos models. Perhaps that has something to do with regards to the quickcharging? But only a few phones are delivered here.
I think the 'refurbished' phones after the recall are actually regular production line phones, but X-rayed, updated and repackaged. If the X-ray showed nothing, I think you could still have a gen1 phone that is now bursting into flames. I don't think they will go through the trouble of opening up 2,5m phones and replace the batteries. That is more labour and time intensive than to bring out new units for about $200-250 worth of materials.

Full statement is they are adjusting the supply to the demand. US customers which is probably their biggest base, don't want the phone anymore.
