Installed Syndicate ROM Frozen (Malanga) Full version, and when i turn on the WiFi tether(3.0 pre11) that comes with the ROM, it turns on automatically the Sprint Hotspot, then the phone crashes turns off and thenb back on, by itself
I get both App. running at the same, what do i have to do, to run the wifi tether only????????
thanks
In wifi tether go to settings and the first option is device profile. Make sure you have the right one selected. And yes, wifi tether does turn on the sprint hot spot app. That's how it works in infrastructure mode.

So giftedx29 which ROM are u using now???
I am running rooted stock 4.0.4 IMM76K with FC04/FC05 radios on a Verizon Nexus. I can not get the stock tethering or wifi tether to work. Both turn on without errors but none of my computers see the signal. I have always used wifi tether on other phones and not seen an issue. I have searched around but I can't seem to find anyone with my issues. Any suggestions?
I would try using an app like foxfi or pdanet. Both work well for wifi tethering. Also, both have the ability to hide tethering usage. You may have to sideload these apps, i believe Verizon wont let you get to them anymore. Also, I would no blow through my data allowence if I were you. This might cause them to get look a little more carefully at your data usage.
Try tetherbee.
It worked for me.
U must search online for it though.

Verizon still allows my mom to tether for free.
Even she'll get in trouble if she gets caught.
Would this be a rom or kernel issue? It doesn't seem to be a application issue? Many others have used both the options I have tried already without issues on the Nexus

AOKP unlocks and bypasses the tether message/error.
It's the stock rom issue it is disabled from what I was told.. I use aokp 39 using the built in tether and it works great

You need to set Wifi tether settings as follows:
Device Profile - Samsung Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE)
Setup Method - Netd (master)
Routing Fix - make sure its checked.
Hope this helps

I forgot to mention that I installed a rom mod to enable native tethering.
I made a blunder. Apparently wifi tether didn't like the space I put in the SSID name.

can you list all your settings
Do you know of any settings to have wifi tethering work without the hotspot plan?
With my old HTC sensation I just had to create a new apn with (epc.tmobile.com) to make it work, but with the GIII this is a no go....
If you are rooted...this works great:

Foxfi In the Play Store. No root needed just read the description to make sure it supports your device.
Thanks, will try Foxfi and let you know if works.
Thanks

Look over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766155&highlight=hotspot
several us (at least on verizon) seem to be able to do it just with toggles. Those with other carriers let us know if it works for you...
Thanks for the info,
I have tried the widgets option but still no go.
Still getting the T-Mobile Hotspot signup page...
anyone able to get this working?
I've also noticed this to be annoying. My HTC Sensation would tether no problem on the same data package. Now T-Mobile has it locked down somehow. Hmm.

Do this, go to Google Play and download (WiFi Tether For Root Users) open the app go to settings, 1) Change device-Profile to Generic ICS. 2) Change Setup-Method to Netd (master). Now go back and click on the big WiFi icon to start tethering, soon as the system finds the device pull down the notification and authorize it, make sure the Access-Control is enabled., your're all set, good luck.

I guess this will encourage him to ROOT, one of the perks you get being rooted.
T mobile can be a real pain in the ass with blocking tethering. I don't believe the app matters best way I know to get around it is to change the user agent on the computer and do not use internet explorer. I believe chrome and firefox have plugins for that.
I tried FoxFi on a non-rooted stock t999, doesn't work. Sends out the wifi signal, but the computer never actually connects to it. Keeps giving me some kind of error when trying to connect to wifi.
Using the built in tether wifi option, I can connect to the wifi being supplied by the sgs3, but any web activity takes me to the t-mobile hotspot sign up page.
OP use firefox, not chrome to tether. seriously.
and you can try downloading the 'tether' app from the clockworkmod website. google it.
I tether my nexus 7 from my sgs3 with foxfi and its really simple. Just make sure u install pdanet on the device u want to tether. I'm doing a tether with Bluetooth.

On my S3, I only need to turn on tethering and it works. I small on t-mobile S3 not rooted and I don't have any additional tethering on my plan.

Very interesting, i use wifi tether for root users and after using for awhile i get a push message saying i need to stop tethering or it will be blocked, and then i recieve another saying it has been blocked, its a push message so im wondering if t-mobile has a app hidden inside the touchwiz rom to make sure it cant tether... sigh
Hi!
I just installed Foxfi app. on my phone. I noticed there is also an app. called "Foxfi AddOn" and according to the description it provides some optional features to the Foxfi application.
Has anyone installed this app? The reason I am asking this question is because I noticed that by agreeing to install this app., personal information is accessed ("general info about what you are doing with the phone, potentially including personal or private info").
The above quote I got when I press to "install" the app., so I would appreciate any feedback/advice on installing this app. Thanks!

It just adds a proxy to FoxFi, which still didn't work on my SG3 for wifi (didn't try bluetooth).
I believe there may be some noobs on XDA, like myself, who did not know how to set up wifi tethering after root. Here's a quick rundown.
1. ROOT your phone (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756885)
2. Go to Playstore and download "Wifi tether for ROOT users" (****EXCEPTION BELOW)
3. IMPORTANT!!! go to the app's setting and set the "Change Device Profile" to "GENERIC ICS"
4. there is no step 4.
Save yourself some $$$ instead of paying Verizon a service that should have been free to start off with. :victory:
EDIT: **** buhohitr mentions that you can achieve wifi tethering WITHOUT ROOT through the playstore app "FoxFi"
ENJOY!!!!!

Well... I figured it'll get the most views in the development section so here it is. One thing I might change is getting this in the "Guide" category
Just a note: I've been using this app with really inconsistent results using generic ics profile and auto setup. I've only been able to detect the wifi twice. I read somewhere that turning wifi tether on, let it start up, turn it off, reboot phone, and start up tethering again works somehow. I just tried it and it worked right away but this is only once. I don't know if this will work consistently 100% of the time though
best wifi tethering is just down load Foxfi from the market, installed and bang work like a champ..very reliable.Foxfi work with root and without root.
Thanks, that was a lot easier than I'm used to. Wifi tether worked the first time, and I turned it off and on a few times and it worked everytime.

This is the correct way to do it. choose "galaxy nexus for CDMA/LTE"
also, do not forget to check "routing fix"
this will give you full infrastructure tethering instead of ad-hoc tethering.
what does this mean? It means that your phone will allow things like ipod's , game systems (psp, gameboy..) to connect as well. It will function exactly like a wifi router.
cheers
This could just go in the themes and apps forum technically since all you're doing is installing an app basically... But I guess it's a guide. Thanks for the info OP. For those of you on the new shared data plans, don't even worry about following this guide, the tethering is included in the package because Verizon wants you to use more data and pay overages.
The default tethering app however does support open NAT for Xbox and PSN though which is kinda nice :X (Only wireless tethering root app I got to work with PSN and Xbox for open NAT is barnacle WiFi tether and it was a bit of a pain the butt.)
Free Hotspot on Shared Plan
If you purchased the phone with Verizon After the deadline and lost your unlimited data however, gaining a shared plan, Wifi Hotspot is included in the share data plan at no additional cost. There is no reason to hide your wifi traffic. HOWEVER, I personally find the Wifi Tether app to be better than the default Hotspot app anyway.

You must have meant that this is the correct way for you. When I check "routing fix" or "galaxy nexus CDMA/LTE", my laptop connot see a wifi signal. However, following the OP's post worked like a charm for me. Obviously, it may take a bit of tinkering for people to determine the best setup for themselves.
Is there a way to lower the power of the Wifi from the phone to save power. The range you get when tethering is way further than necessary and it might be better for battery if you could lower the power usage.
Also, is using this rooted wifi tether safer than using foxfi in terms of verizon detecting the use.
How safe are these methods compared to using a power toggle widget to just enable the built-in tethering app? I've found if you try to enable it from the menu, it checks for subscription, but if you use a power toggle app, it "just works."
Edit: One more question....while performing the Wifi pop-up hack, I found an option along the lines of TETHER_ALWAYS_ON. Has anyone tried changing this to a 1?
I believe tethering is more frowned upon than anything else by verizon. I have not heard otherwise, or heard of trouble with big red because of it. However, the "best customer experience" is had when you pay for it. Haha.
Been using Foxfi the last couple of days with no problems. Solid app that works well.
That worked for me, thank u sir

So wifi tether isnt working for me and i went to the toggle for blazer 1.7 and pressed hotspot and it took me to the sprint hotspot, just wanted to know if i will be charged? shouldnt it of come with a " check to agree to terms" or something? or is the sprint hotspot hacked for blazer 1.7 ics domination?

you won't be charged.word on the street is if you just got the phone it will work for you for a while.then it will stop. they will not just add tha charge on. instead you will get a failure message. It will say something like registration error give it some time. unless of course they found a hack and included it w/ blazer but as far as I know they have not found a hotspot hack yet
isnt thier a hack though?

If so make sure device profile is samsung galaxy nexus CDMA or gsm dont matter.
No encryption. And uncheck the box at the bottom that says disable wake lock. Should work for ya
I was using wifi tether on my gs3 and had little luck getting it to work well. I'm on Blazer 1.6 currently.
Even foxfi wouldn't work.
The stock app worked for a few days, but Sprint gives it to you for free to get you to like it, then turns it off.
But today I searched for wifi tether in the play store (eventhough it was already installed on my phone) and noticed there was an available update. I updated and now there is an option for galaxy s3 in the device profile. It wouldn't work until I checked the box that says "wifi driver reload". Now it is finally working as well as it did on my evo 4g!
CM10 appears to be the only rom that actually solves the problem by unlocking the native sprint hotspot app.. all other roms still require a third party app and/or work around.
Yeah, tft is right. I'm on Blazer 1.7 and have to use an app called WiFi Tether but works fine.
See qbking66's videos on YouTube on how to do it, think that's where I found out how to do it.
