So wifi tether isnt working for me and i went to the toggle for blazer 1.7 and pressed hotspot and it took me to the sprint hotspot, just wanted to know if i will be charged? shouldnt it of come with a " check to agree to terms" or something? or is the sprint hotspot hacked for blazer 1.7 ics domination?

you won't be charged.word on the street is if you just got the phone it will work for you for a while.then it will stop. they will not just add tha charge on. instead you will get a failure message. It will say something like registration error give it some time. unless of course they found a hack and included it w/ blazer but as far as I know they have not found a hotspot hack yet
isnt thier a hack though?

I assume your using this?
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
If so make sure device profile is samsung galaxy nexus CDMA or gsm dont matter.
No encryption. And uncheck the box at the bottom that says disable wake lock. Should work for ya
I was using wifi tether on my gs3 and had little luck getting it to work well. I'm on Blazer 1.6 currently.
Even foxfi wouldn't work.
The stock app worked for a few days, but Sprint gives it to you for free to get you to like it, then turns it off.
But today I searched for wifi tether in the play store (eventhough it was already installed on my phone) and noticed there was an available update. I updated and now there is an option for galaxy s3 in the device profile. It wouldn't work until I checked the box that says "wifi driver reload". Now it is finally working as well as it did on my evo 4g!
CM10 appears to be the only rom that actually solves the problem by unlocking the native sprint hotspot app.. all other roms still require a third party app and/or work around.
Yeah, tft is right. I'm on Blazer 1.7 and have to use an app called WiFi Tether but works fine.
See qbking66's videos on YouTube on how to do it, think that's where I found out how to do it.

I don't use Myn's...CM7 user...but I think just about everyone sues the hotspot.
Most custom roms nowadays has the hacked hotspot. I'm on MikFroyo with a hacked hotspot. I know Nuggysunlimited's is also hacked. Those are the ones that I have personally used and tested at one point or another.

Does a hacked one mean an ability to use your hotspot without being raped by Sprint ?
If you weren't getting raped by Sprint, then it wouldn't be hacked.
But yes, you can use it for free, without getting charged on a hacked hotspot.

Yep! All you have to do is open Sprint hotspot and click ok. Then it gives you options to turn it on, change the name of your router (phone), and choose your security type and change the password.
That's it, your all set to go surfing!!!
My doors are open if anyone needs to PM me for assistance with anything pertaining to your Evo. I love mine and have learned so much and love to help others, so feel free to hit me up.
Also Wireless Tether App in Market
I'm not entirely sure what the differences are, but there is also the "Wireless Tether for Root users" in the market. I've been using this for a bit and it works great.
I'm on MikFroyo 4.5 and use the Sprint Hotspot. For some reason the Wireless Tether from the market didn't wan't to work for me. They're both basically do the same thing though.

I haven't been able to use wireless tether in a while, unfortunately. But yea, they are the same...I keep getting "started up with errors." I tried the newer one, and the older version of it.
One thing to check with wireless tether is make sure you allow your connected device in the security settings.
Evo with Destroyer rom
Hi, been searching the forum to see if the sprint hot spot is hacked on the new destroyer rom "gingerbread". I had mikfroyo where I used the sprint hotspot a couple of times and it seemed alot quicker the android wifi tether, so I was wondering if it worked with the destroyer rom cecause I really like destroyer. has anyone heard anything on this? any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Destroyer is AOSP, so it doesn't have Sprint Hotspot. However, it is CM7 based so I assume it has the native hotspot that's included in CM7.

You sir are correct.
I saw it for a second then it dissappeared. Said something to the fact that they know I am not subscribed to the Sprint Hotspot..... I am using the [ROM] Synergy - [RLS1+GodMode 08/05/2011] - Now With Warm Sprinkles!
What do I do????
1. Maybe you're paranoid? 2. I'm kidding, I got one too and was not even tethering at the time.

i take it you were using the sprint hotspot thats in the setting? it will say that but its hacked and you wont be charged. but i recommend using the app that is included called wireless tether its at the bottom of your app drawer because you can use 4g with that as apposed to the sprint hotspot where you cannot.
Was it just today? Are you using the same rom? I wonder if I should use one of the tether programs instead of the hotspot
i just stay away from the sprint hotspot and use the app. its easier and 4g is much more helpful than 3g when tethering

im using the same rom and was tethering not 15 hours ago to my friends xbox and no message. but i use the wireless tether app from the market and not the sprint hotspot. which may be your problem. so just stay away from the sprint hotspot and you should be fine
I am reflashing to EVO Deck Rom, which is VERY Good. See if I still get the error. If so, Ill try the tether program.......
So far so good on the EVO Deck rom. No message, and hotspot active

thats good then. but like i said the sprint hotspot in rls1 synergy has been hacked so you can use it without paying. but you will still get the message. but the message doesn't mean anything since its been hacked. see what im getting at?
so its like this
1.turn on hotspot
2.get love message
3.still use tether and no problems
No because I tried that, and it would not work after I got the message
Does anyone have the full text of that message? It has come on my screen before, but it seems that it always happens while I am in the middle a using swype and the swyping dismisses the message before it can be read.
I use a stock rooted rom, with no hotspot hack. My hotspot has just "worked" from day one of my Evo ownership, around a year ago. I am on my 2nd Evo, as the first one had a failed charging port.
So, I just got my S3 today and immediately rooted it. I mainly just want to tether wirelessly. I don't care to flash new ROMS just yet.
Anyway, before I froze the Sprint Hotspot app with Titanium, I opened up the app just to look around. On my old school Evo 4G it would always tell me I would need to activate the service to use the feature. I just used the free android tether.
I started it up and it is working? I tethered it to my iPad... Is this normal?
I didn't get a notice that it's a paid app or anything.
I checked my account, online, and it still shows wireless hotspot as an option to subscribe to, but it is not listed as part of my plan options.
I am wondering if I use it if Sprint is going to just add it to my bill. When I was with Tmobile I got EDGE data for free for 2 years because of some glitch... I lost it when I upgraded.
Maybe this is a similar glitch? Just wondering of this has happened to anyone else?
No, they can't just add it to your bill. It either works or doesn't work.
In your case, it must just be a favourable fluke that it is working, but I'll wager that eventually down the road you'll get the standard message about subscribing to a hotspot plan.
On a side note, have you tried FoxFi? It's a tether app that does not require root.

I can CONFIRM that the current version of foxfi does not work on an unrooted Sprint SGS3. Also, the android-wifi-tether is not working, either, on a ROOTED Sprint SGS3 (LG2 - haven't tried it with LG8 release yet).
Sprint seems to be trying pretty hard to prevent its users from wifi tethering (without one of their wifi data plans).
On my current phone foxfi and the andorid tether app both act up. They let me connect for a while and then they just stop working. It may be the phone though. If I do usb tether though I can stay one for days.
I cant wait till I get my s3 next week though.

I can't get WIFI to work at all, but USB tethering via Easytether works great.
Never tried foxfi unrooted but can confirm it doesn't work on my rooted phone. WiFi tether works just fine for me tho(on all modems: Len,lf9,lg2,lg8). I think the problems people are having is just because of the phone being new. I don't think iT has anything to do with sprint trying to block it.

FoxFi says on their site (right now!) ...
"*Support for the new Galaxy S3 and the new ICS update for Epic Touch are being worked on. Should be compatible soon in a future update."
My GS3 is not rooted yet. FoxFi didn't work ... neither Wifi, nor BlueTooth mode for Hotspot. BUT, the Sprint basic Hotspot is working even without me enabling it in my account. Hmmm.
Will try to root and try the google base wifi tether sometime soon.

Hi
I'm trying to get wifi tethering going on my new Galaxy S3 (T999) but not having much luck.
I'm using a T-mobile branded phone, but am using it with Mobilicity in Canada.
-When I use the setting to toggle wifi hotspot on, it just immediatly toggles off.
- Tried Wifi Tether for Root Users but no networks show up on the other device.
-Tried 1 click wifi tether and it kind of worked. The network showed up on the other device, but when I tried to load a webpage, it couldn't do it. Not sure if any data is getting through.
I am rooted, but am using stock firmware (T-mobile Jelly Bean)
Thanks
I know CM10 wife tethering works out of the box. Try it!

Changing the rom might be a bit severe, but I could try it.
It would be nice to get rid of all that T-mobile stuff on there.
Any other ideas how to get tethering working?
Tmo block tether on jelly bean no matter you're rooted or not. It doesn't work on mine either. but there is a way around. look it up in another thread.

Thanks for the reply. I tried it again on another device and it is working with 1 click teather. My transformer Prime works, it's my PS Vita that doesn't. Oh well, I can live with that.
Well I have read through the development thread of ktoonsez and task's kernel and rom and even used yes search in the thread and have come up with no answers. When I was on ICS I had no issue with Wi-Fi tethering but since I have moved to this rom I can create the hotspots however there is no internet connection. I found a couple posts in the thread using the search but they seem to be gone from the actual thread since after I click the link it's not on the page that pops up.
I am currently running both the ktoonsez & task rom and kernel (latest versions) on a bell I747m with MVLDLK4 modems on MTS . I don't have a tethering plan but when I was on ICS it didn't seem to matter. Can anyone help me out or point me in the right direction?

If you are talking about using the WIFI Tether app Jelly Bean essentially broke it. The devs are working on a fix. XDA member Treve has a mod that will get it to work though. His OP is posted in the Verizon forums but I can assure you it works on our AT&T phones. I used it last night. There is an issue worth noting that once you tether and untether your WIFI won't work again until you clear cache and reboot. It is a minor annoyance IMO but I threw it out there so no one freaks out.
If you are talking about straight stock tethering I haven't run into the issue myself. My stock tether/WIFI hotspot works flawlessly. After updating to 4.1.1 did you do a full data wipe? If not I would recommend it. I ran into all kinds of bugs after doing the Kies update. Battery drain, Google Now had a learning disability, etc.
Do a google search for Treve WIFI Tether mod for the link and give it a go. In the OP he says that secure tethering doesn't work. It does. Used it last night as a test.
Also if you have a rooted phone already download mobile odin. You can have the app reflash the stock .tar and inject everoot and SuperSU. That's what I generally do when a new OTA is released. Hasn't failed me yet. Any questions shoot me a PM.

Wifi Tether works. The old version stopped working for me after upgrading to JB, but I downloaded a different beta. You have to download the TrevE Mod, wifi_tether_v3_3-pre2.apk.
Also I had to change some settings.
Device profile is set to GS3.
Fallback tether is enabled.
Send Netd Max Client Cmd is enabled.
Both Wifi-driver reload options are enabled.
MSS clamping is enabled.
Routing fix is enabled.
This works for me. Sometimes no data will come through but restarting my phone fixes the problem. I'm rooted on stock JB.
