[Q] Help please. Unlocking a relocked bootloader. - HTC One X

Hi guys
Seems I have failed quite epicly. Forgot the first rule of backing up first.
I fastboot oem lock'ed my One X. Then of course I had to flash a stock RUU. Which was all fine. It was then that I fastboot flashed zip PJ46IMG.zip.
Next step would be to unlock the bootloader again etc so that I can start the process of moving onto a JB rom. But I forgot unlocking a relocked bootloader will still wipe /sdcard/ right? Obviously I cannot boot into Android, it just loops. And I cannot seem to be able to mount my sdcard now using adb shell so that I can backup my sdcard contents before unlocking and getting wiped again?
Anyone got any advice?
Cheers

It wont wipe your SD
it probably loops because you have a custom kernel
Just unlock your bootloader =)

Thanks strikerdj2011!
Before I try.. Can anyone else reading this, or anyone following these steps, confirm that running running fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin wont wipe /mnt/sdcard storage? Sorry if I sound untrusting, just got some really important stuff on my internal sdcard

Any idea's?
cheers

Nevermind.
I went ahead to unlock my relocked bootloader. Lost everything

One X stuck in boot loader.

Hi all. I just bought this phone and for some reason it comes with the bootloader unlocked and a custom software. I was unable to update my phone so i was searching here and over there. Mr Hofs from this forum gave me some advices which i will quote.
My phone data is readcid: HTC__622
Fastboot getvar version-main : 3.14.708.28
He suggested me to: 1: download this RUU RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_45_S_hTC_Asia_HK_3.14.708.28_Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_299865_signed.exe
2: charge the battery to 100%
3: put the phone in the bootloader and relock it (if it is unlocked)
Fastboot oem lock
4: keep the phone in the relocked bootloader
5: right click on the ruu and select "run as administrator"
6: follow on screen info (phone and pc)
7: fingers crossed
8: back to stock it is
But the procces failed, it said i had to dowload the proper version and signed. Now my phone is stuck in the bootloader which is relockked. Please help me getting this back to life.
Thanks in advanced.
By some reason I can't explain, the phone came with the software called Android Revolution 6 by mike1986 :/
Try running this RUU from a different PC, it should work if your bootloader is locked! This is the correct RUU for your phone!
However, if you still can't get to your OS, then restore a nandroid backup via recovery!
Download this nandroid backup : https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwEZB8sRo0DSdTRrN3FSSk5fUE0/edit?pli=1
Recovery : http://htcfanboys.com/download/seadersn/?action=list&file=4944
Now firstly unlock your bootloader
Code:
fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin
Now flash the recovery you had just downloaded...(rename it to recovery.img)
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot erase cache
Now boot into recovery and go to mounts and storage and mount USB. Copy the files of the nandroid backup zip to /clockworkmod/backup/ and paste it there...
Transfer the boot.img into the fastboot folder, boot into fastboot USB and flash the boot.img
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot erase cache
Now go back to recovery and wipe data/cache partition/dalvic
Now go to Back up and restore and restore the nandroid backup you had just copied to your phone! and then REBOOT!
---------- Post added at 01:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:58 PM ----------
If you want to go full stock to receive OTA updates, then you also need to flash the stock recovery.. Download this : https://www.dropbox.com/s/ms7vd18vb9watr8/stock recovery 3.14.img
boot into fastboot mode and flash the recovery and then lock your bootloader!
Thanks for your reply, but which RUU? Seems like you forgot the link.
My bootloader doesnt say locked, it say relocked. Is the same?
Thanks so much for your help.
By the way. I have downloaded the Android SDK but it wont install at all.
Edited: I've tried with the same ruu in other PC and nothing.
Maybe its because it had a custom rom? It came with Android Revolution 6 or someting

I meant to say that the RUU given by Mr Hofs is correct one for your device! It should work...
Yes, relocked = locked bootloader...
Don't download the whole android sdk... you just need the fastboot folder and HTC Sync Manager (for the drivers) to run fastboot commands:
Here are the links:
Fastboot folder: http://d-h.st/8Jr
HTC Sync Manager: http://www.htc.com/www/support/software/htc-sync-manager.aspx
Nope, regardless of the rom your currently on, the RUU will work.. Don't know why your not able to finish it... Hmmm
I dont know. It just wont work
Im finishing downloading the files you suggestted me but i have a doubt in the step when you say to wipe the cache. How? From the phone or by deleting its contect on PC?
I'm a dumb, i know :/
Thanks for help me

Go to your custom recovery(CWM) and select
Wipe Cache Partion>Wipe Cache
Wipe Data/factory reset>Wipe data
Advanced>Wipe dalvic cache>Wipe dalvic
In the first step, it says "cant upload unlock_code.bin" Where is that file?
What i did was place the recovery.img into the fastboot folder

Oh ohkk You got your phone with bootloader unlocked right? Skip that step! Go on with the next one!
If your bootloader is locked then you will have to go to htcdev.com and register there and follow the steps to unlock your bootloader. You will get a file via email (unlock_code.bin)... flash that to unlock your bootloader!

Hi guys ! Don't know what's happening with the ruu's these days. Getting a lot of issues with people who run them. Its a driver/HTC sync problem somewhere !
But yeah try the nandroid backup thing. That should work

The folder on the sd should look like this
Clockworkmod\backup\*time and date folder*\all separate backup files
By time and date you mean 2013-01-08.00.15.16 3.14.708.28_cwm_root ?
I messed it up, i did Clockworkmod\backup\all separate files.
Now the phone is stuck in android logo. What should i do?

Ah go back into the recovery
Factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Advanced - wipe dalvik cache
Mounts & storage - format cache,data,system
Then restore the nandroid
Haha, sorry for the noob questions, I had to learn android stuff in 2 hours due the rush thinking I was getting a brick.
The phone is working now, thank you so much, guys.
Only strange things are that I don't have more languages than Taiwanese and English, not Spanish (system language); also the nandroid was rooted and I have root now, and the splash screen says "HTC one" lol
Again, you're the best. Thanks for help me out, ill see you around while learning

One X not booting. What are my options?

EDIT: After running this "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" the phone now boots up. The downloaded apps are still there but the userdata partition seems to have been wiped. I'm not sure how flashing a recovery partition wipes the userdata partition but I'm not looking for a way to get the phone to present itself as a Mass Storage Device so I can at least try and use recovery software retrieve as much of the lost data as I can.
Hey guys, long term reader of XDA, first time poster.
I have a friend's HTC One X which just stopped booting up past the HTC Quietly Brilliant logo screen. I am able to get into Recovery mode and doing a "fastboot devices" lists my device. However my friend has many photos on this phone, some of which are of a deceased relative and I'd really like to retrieve the photos if I can.
It's S-ON as I believe there isn't an exploit to go S-OFF yet so my options are likely limited. I've downloaded the most recent RUU file (RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_45_S_HTC_Europe_3.14.401.27_Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_298897_signed) but I'm pretty sure this will repartition the phone and delete the photos.
Is there any way I can retrieve the photos? Will the RUU wipe the photos? Is there any other way to get the phone to boot up again?
It would mean so much to me and my friend if there is a solution.
Many thanks,
Rob

I dont know about ruu that it will wipe or not. But you can mount sd from the recovery and go to folder DCIM where you can find all photos.

HBOOT... Though just tried TWRP as suggested by this guy on another forum... I then went to Recovery and then moments later it just booted straight back into Android! I only intsalled TWRP and it's completely fixed the issue!
Download the TWRP recovery instead of clockworkmod one.
This recovery will let you mount the SD card to copy the ROM file to the phone.
Boot the phone into the Hboot, then go to fastboot.
If you downloaded the ARHD flash file, you have pretty much all you need when you unpack this. There should be a "Flash windows.bat" or something like that, simply run it, and it'll put the boot.img on your phone.
It just uses the command: "fastboot flash boot <filename>.img"
Now to put the TWRP recovery on your phone, use the following:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
(Obviously with whatever your version of the twrp.img file is called.)
Reboot the phone into recovery, and you should now be able to mount the SD card, copy the rom across, wipe the caches, and system, install the rom, wipe the caches again, and reboot into ARHD 9.7.2

No. If I go into the MTP device in Windows Explorer I have Internal Storage saying "25.2GB free of 25.2GB" which is really not a good sign. I'm just wondering how I would at least run a recovery program on this such as Recuva in hope to retrieve the lost data.
EDIT: If I could just work out how to get the USB mode to Mass Storage then I'd be able to do a scan... Any idea how to do this?

Well. Thanks for all your help. Too bad I have to be the bearer of bad news!
If anyone knows how to ADB to a One X or knows how to expose the internal storage as a Mass Storage Device then please reply! At least then I can try a recovery program. Thanks.
Was the phone already unlocked ? Or did you unlock the bootloader at the time you wanted to use a recovery to be able to retrieve the photos ?
A first time unlock of the bootloader will delete indeed everything, also sdcard. A factory reset does not delete the sdcard. Tried it myself a couple of weeks ago !

You will have to install a custom rom if you want UMS... If you want it on stock rom, then you need to have root access... There's a thread here on XDA but I don't know the link of it... tried searching but can't find it anywhere... strange!

I can use fastboot to flash a custom firmware without S-OFF right? Is there even a method of enabling S-OFF and gaining root access on stock ROM? The UMS support would be what I need.
So you unlocked it and then tried to retrieve the pictures, am i right ?
Then its lost because unlocking the bootloader wipes everything including sdcard.

Please excuse me for my lack of knowledge of HTC phones. When you say "unlock", I assume that means to root the phone; to root the phone you need to have S-OFF before you can even flash a new bootloader.
The only this I did was was "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" from http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/95. This didn't actually change my recovery from HBOOT, it still boots to HBOOT when holding Power+Volume Down (I realise why now because it says on that page "You must be S-OFF or have taken HTC's unlock to use a recovery on your device!"). The phone is S-ON so techinally it didn't really do anything...?
You can unlock the bootloader (not to s-off, not possible as if now) but in unlocked state you can flash recoverys and flashing a recovery with a locked bootloader will also fail.
Did you unlock the bootloader via the htcdev website ? And then flash a custom recovery ?

I was actually going to do this so in hope that I could flash CWM and then mount the SD card via USB through the CWM recovery, but I got as far as typing "fastboot oem get_identifier_token" which failed with an error so I stopped there.
I think I've missed something here. I still have my CMD prompt open and looked up to see exactly what happened:
C:\Users\Rob\Downloads\adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20130522\sdk\platform-tools>fas
tboot.exe flash recovery "..\..\..\openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-endeavoru.img"
sending 'recovery' (6788 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.955s]
writing 'recovery'...
FAILED (remote: not allowed)
finished. total time: 1.161s
So it actually failed the flash (because the phone is S-ON I guess). Yet this somehow kickstarted the phone and it now boots up flawlessly.
Flashing fail is not due to s-off but because the bootloader is probably still locked. You can check that on the bootloader screen.
But unlocking wipes the whole phone so you lose the pictures at that point anyway

I took a picture to show the details (see attached).
So I'm not able to mount the SD as UMS to run recovery software without unlocking the bootloader, flashing a new recovery and then flashing a custom ROM?

[Q] Stuck at boot screen

Sorry for the late response. I don't remember too well. I watch a guide with the normal commands to root it but was stuck where it was rooted but i could not load super user. ok well if you are still unlocked fastboot flash a recovery then flash a stock rooted rom i would try ICS frist because if you have not flashed a JB RUU or the JB firmware you should still be on ICS 4.0 firmware unless you know you where on JB 4.1.2 if so install the JB stock rooted rom. to do that after you fastboot flash the recovery and have DL the rom just put the rom on a ext. SD card via PC sd card reader. also extract the boot.img from the rom and put it in the same dir. that you have adb and fastboot files. boot into recovery.Do a factory reset wipe from the recovery then install the rom for SD card. After it installs reboot to bootloader fastboot then fastboot flash the boot.img . Hint wherever you have adb fastboot files just open that dir and hold shift and right click and that will give you the option to open cmd propt in that dir. then do your fastboot flash cmd. that should do it and get you up and running again. hope it helps

[Q] Please Help, very big error on my part

Hey guys, I'm new to the HTC one, and I made a mistake. I accidentally formatted my device, the sdcard, firmware, and data, and I'm unable to mount the sdcard and data. I have clockworkmod recovery installed, and the bootloader unlocked, but I'm unable to do much else. When I attempt to flash a rom using sideloader, the screen will just reboot several times. I tried two different roms, CyanogenMod and Stock Rom, by either installing through sideloader or adb, but again, I can't see my SD card. I need help.
How can I fix my phone at this point? I'd be okay with either Stock Rom or CyanogenMod, I just need my phone working.
Please give a newbie a hand guys.
Thanks in advance.

I don't know, but maybe try loading this by following the directions. Maybe you formatted the actual OS completely? This will get you to CM and then from there hopefully flash again
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_m7vzw
Also, try rebooting JUST the recovery, because then your SD shows up again.

thanks I'll give it a shot. but I did reboot recovery, and I'm still unable to see my SD, it still claims it can't mount it.
Also I forgot to include that it is a verizon phone.

He asked about recovery.
cm-10.2-20131130-NIGHTLY-m7vzw.zip appears to be a ROM?
Oops

Oh I'm sorry, I read that wrong. My bad. Yes, the recovery worked fine, no issues there.

Can you walk us through your steps of sideloading? Wondering if you're doing it correctly.
Also, you should reflash the recovery so that you're 100% positive it is for the VZW One.
can do

Sure, I boot into recovery and use the command adb sideload "zip file here" and get the loading progess percentage and then it loads on my phone, yet it doesn't work right. Also, for some reason, my phone's bootloader has "relocked" when I know for a fact I avoided that command for fear of ruining my chances to fix the phone, now if I attempt to flash recovery to double check, I'm told its not allowed and it fails.

I'd try a different recovery. Flash TWRP and try it again. If it doesn't work, then I'm out of ideas for you. Last thing I can think about is RUU'ing your phone.

Also you can try this method, although i never done it this way
Can Try :
Are you attempting to flash from fastboot or from ruu mode
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip zipname.zip
fastboot reboot
if it fails try again.
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash romzip.zip
fastboot reboot
Might want to get a full stock ROM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485319
I tried RUU

Important: the flash process halts at around 75% to 90% on phone screen! This is normal and a safety precaution!
The last few percent is the reboot, which is NOT happening automatically, so you get a chance to check the console output before reboot to make sure it is safe to reboot
my firmware

To answer your other question, the firmware was one of the many things messed up. Flash attempts of the stock firmware were unsuccessful.

You don't need to flash the stock recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2475216
The RUU flashes stock recovery. You can skip the first portion (ADB shell) and the last (write secure flag) in the instructions above.
Basically, just start at
fastboot oem rebootRUU
problem with that.

[Q] Bricked HTC One X - Fastboot - Relocked - No revovery

Hi folks,
I've really got myself into a horrid, horrid mess.
I rooted the phone last night, managed to (or so I thought) install a custom ROM.
In the end, I panicced and tried to load an RUU back onto the handset.
Long and short of it is, that I now have a handset connected via USB, relocked, stuck on fastboot, and trickle charging by rebooting the loader on a constant loop.
Should I be putting this on ebay for spares and repairs? Or is there a way to salvage the kit?
Feel free to flame me for my obvious lack of knowledge here, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

because the right command is fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin nd you must to have Unlock_code.bin in your fastboot folder.
And remember Reading is a gift!

The only thing I cannot seem to get working now is adb so I can add the gapps to my shiny new cyanogen 11 install
Windows 8.1 is refusing to accept the drivers. Guess I'll need to go for a Win XP Machine

Downloaded the GApps to the root of the SD from dropbox, booted to recovery, applied zip file. Rebooted. Simples!
Thank you so much!
