Formatted system - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Yes i messed it up. I was having some problems with my mic. When i was on calls no one could hear unless i turned my speakers on, i didn't know what to do, so i did a factory reset. Ok, so i checked and the problem was still there. SO i entered clockworkmod VIA app, booted in cwm mod, and i formatted my system ( Y i know that was stupid, but i didn't mean to) No i am stuck on the google start screen. What can i do? i Tried to boot in recovery mode but i can't. I really need help.

Boot into the bootloader, flash CWM with fastboot, push a ROM to your /sdcard/ with ADB and flash it with CWM.
OR
return to stock using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895

i can't

You should be able to boot into the bootloader (vol up + vol down + power) or download mode (vol down + power). Can you try?

Thank you

Yes man i tried i couldn't do that. I kinda fixed. I downloaded odin and installed a stock img. It's back to what it was.
But the problem is i did it first, cause i am having problems with my mic, it doesn't work in calls, it only works when i turn on the speakers, i tired it to use the mic in another apps like google now, and it doesn't work. Can someone help me?
And BTW ty for the help.

I'm not 100% certain, but usually when you experience a problem like that across multiple ROMs, it's probably hardware related. I've been seeing a few complaints about mic issues in several threads, so you may not have an isolated problem. Try a Google search. If that doesn't turn anything up it may be worthwhile to call Samsung and see if they have any information. If you're still under warranty, Samsung's RMA process seems to be pretty good. Hope you can get things sorted out, and good luck!

My guess is you formatted system, panicked and tried to use odin, then you end up on the 3 dot screen.
Will the next nexus have a longer screen?

I really don't think it's hardware, Cause the mic works perfectly when i turn on my speakers on a call.
I Googled it already. Found someone with the same problem, he went back to stock, on hi jb and it didn't work, then he went back to stock on 4.0.4 and it worked. I think it's a software problem.
I already reinstalled JB many times.

Try going back to stock 4.0.4 using fastboot and the official images. Then OTA to JB. See if that works.

I Know this is gonna look stupid ( it actually is stupid). I fixed the problem, the mic hole next to the mini usb, was dirty. :silly:
Thank you guys for your time. I think the problem was that when you turn speakers on, the mic gets more sensitive, that's why that was the only way i could use it. Well I hope this thread helps someone, cause i looked over the net, and i found some people with the same problem.
Ty for your time.

[Q] Gnex wont boot. Cant flash from fastboot (too many links error)

CDMA GALAXY NEXUS> Hey guys, I was running Romanbb's 4.0.4 build earlier today. I clicked on a video (which may or may not have been on a porn site) all of a sudden my screen went all wacky. Where it was kind of fuzzy and running diagnal across the screen. I could only see part of it. I thought I might have gotten a virus or something because i have never had one of my devices do this before. So I immideatly rebooted the phone into recovery and wiped eveything including formatting system. I went to flash a nandroid I had of black ice and in the middle of flashing that my phone rebooted itself and stayed there (bootlooping at the google logo) I can get into fastboot and I can get into recovery about one out of every ten times but I cant do anything in recovery because the phone turns itself off insted of booting recovery most of the time (I have clockwork touch) When I do get into recovery without it turning off it reboots if I try to flash anything. It seems to be stable in fastboot (thank god!) but When I get it connected in Wugs Root tool kit and try to flash the stock image it goes through the motions and says FAILED on every step exept the first (which I believe is checking radio). It says ( error too many links) on the first two) and I cant remember the error on the last four but I have tried it a couple times so I can replicate it if needed. Can anyone tell me what to do from here? I really appreciate in advance!!! If this is a hardware error then I would like to get it back to stock to get it replaced. It is weird that it happened while running a rom. Its not like I messed up while flashing or anything.
ADB will recognize it in Fastboot. I already set all of that up when I rooted. when I try to flash the stock+unroot option on wugfresh's toolbox it errors out on every step like there is something wrong with my internal sd on my phone? Im wondering if I should try odin. IDK? Im hoping somebody who has seen this or had this happen before will save the day and tell me what to do.
lol why did you rush into CWM and start wiping things? you should have let it reboot and it probably could have been a one off..
you can try this http://rootzwiki.com/topic/14145-od...actory-odin-restore-402-with-radios-unrooted/
It is stable in fastboot but in cwr it is still geeking out
It still is glitching in cwr. most of the time it either turns off or reboots when I try to go into cwr. i can wipe but if I flash anything it freezes at the point where it starts writing to storage. I have never seen anything like this before.
I have now tried oden as well
It looks like it is a problem with the hardware. The phone is only a couple months old if that. So I really wish I could flash the stock image or at least get rid of cwm. but that is not looking likely. Here are a couple pics of odin showing the problem. Any guidace would be much appreciated. This SUCKS
Why in the heck are you trying to use Odin?
I can only get into fastboot and odin.
CWM wont let me do anything. it crashes and reboots into a bootloop if I try to flash anything. The poster above suggested odin. I dont know what else to do. Please help if you can!
Can you get a screencap of when it fails fastbooting the stock images?
yes
yes, give me couple min and I will post it. Thank you!
I guess I cant. This is all I get now

How are you attempting to access fastboot?
Vol + and Vol - and power all at the same time
Vol + and Vol - and power all at the same time from powered off
And oden was Vol - and power at the same time from powered off
Now no matter what I push it goes to the screen with the yellow triangle.
That screen says you (now) have a corrupt partition.
At this point, you must use Odin, which is unfortunate. What URL did you use to download the image? The current image in that thread was on multiupload.

during my rooting attempt I had a problem with the two vol buttons. It was quite frustrating. Keep trying them and try pressing the power button a fraction of a second sooner.
I downloaded the one later in the thread

I used that thread because it is the one that the second post linked for me.

I pm'd you to ask how you could fix it. Just wondering if I could do it. I can follow instructions well. I have never had a problem and have been flashing stuff for a year or so. IDK what happened here.
I can't help but I wanted to share that I had a similar experience. I was bonne stock and clicked on a you tube video and my phone immediately shut down and tried to reboot itself, but only would boot loop. I had to manually reformat my partitions to recover. Sounds like your case might be even worse. Still don't know what my problem was.

Thanks. Any feedback is appreciated.
so you can't get into bootloader or odin screen any more? if so try using a Jig it works to get the phone into odin mode for me. i used the same usb jig i made for the captivate.
I got the same suggestion from someone else. I have to wait until radio shack opens in the morning and I will give it a shot. Otherwise, I went by verizon and they are having samsung send me a replacment. I would much rather keep this one if I can though
I tried flashing the stock image from fastboot and it failed though when I could get there, and I also tried flashing the stock image through oden when I could get there and both failed multiple times so I don't have much hope. I think something broke.
I am headed to radio shack now. Be back soon with a answer as to wheather I can save my baby or not.

[Q] Samsung t989 Galaxy S II - Bootloop HELP please :(

I downloaded the Jedi Mind Trick JB 2 ROM and installed it via clocwork mod recovery .. That went fine but it took me a few days to realize I didnt have a working video camera anymore on my phone.. so I thought to flash a stock ROOTed rom instead...
Then I found this threat about an updated version of Jedi Mind Trick's ROM labled JB 3.. So I wiped as much as I could in recovery and chose to format all the options it gave me in recover , Format system , data , cache , emms(or something) .. and now when I boot the phone , it shows the first flash screen , and the samsung logo starts to shimmer then it reboots back to the splash screen and repeats this process everal times before just going black and sitting there..
So I've successfully bootlooped my phone doing this..
MY PROBLEM -- I don't know how to charge my phone or connect to it to install anything else..
Is this a serious problem? How can I charge my phone to continue troubleshooting it? It still has some battery to try some things but I don't know how to hook it up to transfer any other roms to it via USB cable and PC in it's current state..
I'm very computer savvy but I'm trying to learn this phone modding stuff and I realy hope I didn't brick my phone in this process.
Can someone please help me out here? I'll be on the forums religiously until I figure this out.
What should I start doing first??
Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!
still working at it
I think I'm at the point of having to use ODIN to flash a new rom since i cannot simply copy this rom to the sdcard to use clockwork to flash it .. Am I correct on this ?
For some reason this rom I found (should be stock rooted tmobile gSII rom) does not want to open from ODIN's PDA button cause its in .zip and not .tar or anything... I'm not sure how to flash this rom with ODIN ( I'm not even 100% sure this is how its supposed to go) Any suggestions ?
phew
UPDATE - So I managed to research enough to find out that there is no way to flash a CUSTOM rom with ODIN.. SO I had to download a stock (presumably rooted) t-mobile rom and flash THAT ...
Now I'm back up with a rooted rom and will begin re-installing clockwork and then my custom deodexed rooted rom afterward.
Thanks for all who almost kinda tried to care to reply in this past 2 hours =) -- As previously mentioned.. I am a nerd.. I just suck at phone modding. Haha
So , looks like I'm in the clear now and don't need any more support on this particular topic yet.

Is this true? Through a recommendation (haven't done anything to my phone from rooting/flashing KANGSJUGGERNAUT2 years ago), I tried to flash CM10 and ended up with a bootloop myself. Tried flashing through ODIN but it kept crashing; does anyone know why?
Afterward, I tried to reflash it through CWM and from then on bootloops into a installation process that never completes.
For some reason my CWM turned super slow, freezes/hangs and reboots after a few minutes.
I gave the phone to a friend who does this stuff on the regular but he said my initial flash wasn't complete cause in download mode says I'm still running official? No clue.
I was told this via email/chat: "No luck, it won't even boot anymore, I think I'll just bring it back tmrw morn
10:43 PM
Sorry I'm at a wedding (yea I know random) I left my phone with coat check
OK I've narrowed down the reason but not the solution, you had an AOKP based ROM which fundamentally is based on CyanogenMod, but it wasn't correctly flashed as the phone still thought it has factory ROMs still running
11:10 PM
Clockworkmod(even though it was working before) wasn't accessing the partitions of the phone correctly so it wasn't properly wiping or flashing properly.
11:12 PM
So basically from the first time you flashed cwm it didn't flash properly then the next time you flashed using the new recovery it didn't flash anything it was supposed to do itself properly , so basically it was a chain of events in addition to a bad boot loader, that's why it never went to recovery or download mode correctly
11:13 PM
That's something that had to do with the way the phone was built meaning you may of had a bad bootloader from the very begin and are now feeling the synptoms
Basically, and I would hate to be the reason or partially the reason you have a dead phone, basically it was a matter of coincedencr that it happened as this could of happened at anytime, once you have a bad boot loader its pretty much down hill from there"
Any helpful insight as how I can rectify this? is my phone truly dead? Sorry about the quoted format, it was copied and pasted.
If I were in your boat, I'd use Odin and flash the stock 4.1.2 ROM.

you can try using adb and put the phone in dl mode.
sometimes its as easy as pull battery and wait awhile (20 min or more) and try again.
if you've exhausted all possibilities, you can use a jig to force a dl mode.

I don't know what adb is, or how to use it; I have, however seen my friend RDP to my desktop and do something and used the term 'adb' in his attempt to code through the phone.
I've done that battery waiting period, for nearly an hour and still no result.
After doing some researching, I have found that many people have stated a USB JIG would not be applicable to a 'hard bricked' phone. I really wanted to try as it looked like the most, simple and inexpensive solution.

[Q] Screen flickering / Bootloop -> Is my Nexus dead? Data recovery possible?

Hello,
just some hours ago my Galaxy Nexus (SC-04D) rebooted while lying on the table next to me. After several sings of vibration I noticed that the phone doesn't boot completely.
When switching on the phone I get the turn-on-vibration, then the google letters are displayed. Most times the word "google" flickers from left to right over the screen (only the line where the word is supposed to be). Sometimes it boots further and I get the colored "X" displayed. This symbol starts flickering, too and if it went so far it reboots.
Here are two pictures I took from the phone failing to boot:
picpaste.com/img_0001_01-Rmm7kDYb.jpg
picpaste.com/img_0001-eoLqVoiM.jpg
The phone is running stock Android from Docomo. The phone is about 14 months old and has never been unlocked, rooted, modded, taken a bath, ... 'til now.
I tried starting with and without SIM-card, with and without charger attached and let it lie around for several minutes without battery between my tries.
Is there any chance to get my data from the phone or even get it fixed? Please give me a hint what I can do.
Well the Red exclamation mark means that there is a problem with the phone reading the build path. Since you have never rooted the phone, this would mean that the files got corrupt on the phone. With a non-rooted phone a Factory Reset is about the only solution, but is probably only a temporary fix. This is most likely caused by too many apps on the phone and it just freaked out on something eventually.
I think these options might work for you, however I cannot confirm since I have rooted my phone from day one and never looked back:
Power button + up volume= recovery
Thanks GPFboy for your fast response,

As far as I understand a factory reset results in a complete loss of data on the phone, right? So without root/unlock there's no chance to get my data from the phone? That would be really bad.

What is "too many"? I think there are about 35 apps installed atm. By the moment the problem arose wifi and 3g-data,BT,GPS were disabled and just a minute before I took a look how late it was. So nothing special.

ok, I tried that several time now, but it didn't work. The only thing when I select recovery and press the power button is that I get the google logo and then the dead android + red exclamation sign, but this screen is scrambled and shows flickering pixels as shown in one of my pictures in the first post. So recovery mode seems not to work for me?
Is there a software or hardware problem with my device?

Yes exactly this is the point. Since I don't have a current data backup the first thing to try is getting my data from the phone. I already tried temporary loading the clockwork recovery through fastboot - with the galaxy nexus toolkit and by hand(sdk) - but it failed ("Bootloader locked").
What I'm wondering about is the fact that the phone seems to behave normally in odin and fastbood mode but going nuts the moment it's expected to boot. Besides the flickering google logo and the "matrix-modded" dead android it even ended up in a totally green screen one time.
At the moment I don't dare trying to unlock/flash the phone because of being afraid getting stuck and ending up with the phone being in some kind of undefined / totally broken state. Initially I was in hope of being able to rescue my data but now i will try my luck with docomo support first.
As far as I understood omapflash is primary used for recovering bricked phones not even starting to odin/fastboot mode. But thanks to your hint I found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016628 "Unlock bootloader on GT-I9250 without wipe and without root" This might bring some chance for data access.
I will try to get through 1 to 4 of the guide first and see how far I get.
If this won't work I might try to unlock, recover and try to "undelete" what's possible. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994705)
Does this order make sense?
Btw, having a dead phone is bad, of course, even when I got it new for 2300Yen but loosing some pictures i really liked and having no phone atm currently hurts more. Especially when knowing that I was thinking of copying all photos to my computer only one day before when I pulled only some minor important ones from the phone I needed for work and planned to do a full backup and unlock this weekend when I get back my 'Milestone' currently lent to someone else.
Once again something I learned. Backup! Even you phone.

But thanks to your hint I found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016628 "Unlock bootloader on GT-I9250 without wipe and without root" This might bring some chance for data access.

It will work actually, I read/also replied to that thread! I had forgotten about it, sorry. I must say that if you had already read the stickies that matter, you'd already know about it.
It will unlock your bootloader, bypassing fastboot. Still, it's not for the faint hearted. I refered to omapflash because its a low level tool, it doesn't require the bootloader to be unlocked, and is able to restore the bootloader to working state, and I got there because you mentioned you see graphical glitches/flickering which may indicate bootloader partition failure and/or consequent corruption.
I think that's your best shot at trying to get your data back. After unlock, boot to fastboot and 'fastboot boot custom_recovery.img', and grab your stuff (if you can) from /data/.

Your hint was very helpful for me getting the right direction since I'm just starting to dig into all this stuff.
Unlocking went quite well. Writing back to the phone worked without a problem and after that it's shown as unlocked in fastboot mode.
It even started loading clockwork recovery with fastboot. But the initial cw recovery screen (their logo and the cw recovery footer) was already shown on a scattered screen (google logo + unlocked lock was fine). After that the usb port connected and disconnected several times, then the screen went blank.
May this be because of corrupted fs or defective hw?
From my understanding with omapflash one have raw access to the phones internal memory similar to with dd on Unix/Linux. So currently I'm trying to dump ("upload") the emmc from the phone - actually in smaller chunks since omapflash needs to allocate all the memory in advance for the upload and to prevent interruptions. This will take a while...
After that I want to try to 'cat' the parts together and mount the filesystem - might be possible to do this from linux since it seems to be ext4 filesystems

Great, so far so good.
Yeah, they're ext4 images, but sparse images i believe - link

[Q] S3 won't stay booted.

I can get into recover, download mode, or the rom boot screen but phone turns off right after. It won't stay on long enough to change roms or backup anything. Does anyone have any suggestions of what to do? Thanks in advance
Can't not can...stupid tablet won't let me edit.
Please Specify your Rom and Kernel. If on Stock, do a factory reset.

I'm on Cyanogenmod with stock Kernel from Cyanogenmod, never changed my kernel. It was working fine for months then just rebooted on its own and won't stay on since. Unfortunately I'm stock and I'm not even sure it will stay on long enough to do anything to it.Its also not the battery. This video shows exactly whats happening to mine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J61jghxz-Vc
If it can stay stable in Download mode, then you can Odin Flash Root66. Once that's done, flash recovery again and the Rom.

That's the problem I can't. Is there any other options. I'm not worried about backups or anything I just want it fixed.
The video points to Recovery only. Have you tried to boot into Download mode (the kind that has yellow triangle and Downloading message ) ?

Yeh I've tried recovery and download. Neither one stays on for more than 5 seconds and in download mode after clicking up to go into download mode the phone restarts.
Could be hardware, could be softbrick. Can you try the De-Bricking thread's instructions ?

I'm beginning to think its a hardware problem. I got it to boot into recovery long enough to factory reset, load a new rom, and gapps. I rebooted and it loaded for a few seconds and turns off. It booted again and went to the optimizing apps screen then shut off before it could finish. Does this sound like it could be a software problem?

I got the phone to boot into cyanogenmod but in the set up screen it failed again. Really getting annoying and I can't figure out how to fix it.
Pull battery. Then put it back. Does it try to turn on by itself? Could be the power button issue many others have had.

YES thats it I was thinking there might be a problem with the power button...Is there a fix on this or a thread anywhere?
There have been many threads posted with this issue, and some did manage to just buy the part and fix themselves. No instructions though thst I'm aware of.
I'd suggest you google galaxy s3 or t999 teardown.

Found a few posts and people just thump around the general area of the power button and that seems to be a temporary fix and it worked for me for a little while. It's gonna work long enough to revert everything to stock and send in. Thanks you two for your help

[Q] Nexus 7 suddenly bricked ?

Hello all, so yesterday I went on my tablet (Nexus 7 2013 WIFI ver.) and browsed the net a bit and went to sleep. I recall having around 30% battery power. This morning I wake up to an apparently flat battery (power button didn't turn on anything) so I just plugged it in and did something else. After a while, I took my tablet and started it with the power button. However, it got stuck on the Google logo and never fired up anything. I've rooted the tablet quite some time ago (months) so the cause is not from there.
Things I haven't recently done:
Installing an app.
Rooting or flashing anything.
Updating an app.
Things I have tried doing to fix the problem:
Booting into FASTBOOT then trying the recovery mode = still stuck on the Google logo.
Booting a custom recovery image using Wug's toolkit = frozen at the team logo (TWRP) / black screen (CWM).
Flash Stock + Unroot (Soft-Bricked/Bootloop) = FAILED (flash write failure).
So now I'm really stuck and desperate to make the device work again. I've been reading all day long and trying all sorts of solutions to no avail. And it seems far-fetched to me for a device like this to just instantly brick itself without any reason at all.
Can anyone help me with this case ? Or does anyone has any idea what just happened to my tablet ? :crying:
EDIT: I'm afraid that warranty might not work as the device was unlocked and rooted so it's the last solution for me.
Bumpity bump
No one has any idea what happened to the tablet and how to fix it ? I've tried doing some more flashing but to no avail. It just refuses to flash and keeps failing to write the files.
I think you need to leave out on the charger for 1/2hr without doing anything with it. You are probably using what little power it has charged by trying to reboot it, etc.
I had to do that once and it did the trick.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app
There is no reason you should not be able to get in to recovery (power and volume down).
You could call Motorola. They have good tech support.
The exact same thing happened to me. I rooted it months ago and haven't changed a thing since then. It just froze up a few days ago. I restarted and it just gets stuck on the google screen. I can get into the bootloader, but when I try to go to recovery, the google screen comes up and won't go away. I've tried every method I can find for flashing the stock image and absolutely nothing is working. I just get stuck on the google screen.
Please update this if you find a solution!
Do u guys have the most up to date version of whatever particular recovery that you're on?
Yep. I've flashed the stock recovery multiple times to no avail. :/

If you can't get into recovery or flash any images it sounds to me like a hardware failure. Bad memory maybe? If you've tried everything then RMA to Asus before the one year warranty runs out.
Have you tried to see if your computer sees your N7 by typing fastboot devices if you have the sdk installed?

Yes, I can get into the bootloader just fine and I can use fastboot. I go through the flashing process and the command prompt says everything flashed successfully, but when I restart the device, it hangs on the google logo. The same thing happens when I try to boot into recovery.

If you fastboot flashed the factory image and can't boot up then it sounds like a hardware problem. Out of ideas, sorry.

I'm not sure what happened, but I just ran this little utility again (I've done it many times over the last week or so to no avail) and it actually worked. Hopefully it keeps working!
Thanks for your help!
