[Q] Google Wallet on the Galaxy Note 2? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Have anyone tried it yet? anyone ran into any problems? I just got my Note 2 n7100 I love the phone but I really want to know more people views on the NFC/Google wallet.

Good question

being in AU, i'm not going to be able to take advantage of wallet and NFC until CM10 enables it for me

Wallet is not available yet for the note 2. When I open up wallet it says 'not available for your device or network'

Shame, was looking forward to using it!

User guide for international N-7100 actually lists Google Wallet and give instructions on its use. I hope that it will eventually be enabled.

This can be installed, but you can't verify the credit cards (at least I can't).

Google Wallet doesn't work. ISIS doesn't work. This sucks. I have an NFC-equipped superphone and can't even use NFC. Bummer.

What do you mean you can't verify the cards? I just installed this and at the moment, I don't have any cards to add... (I left my actual wallet on top of my car last friday... as a result, I've needed to cancel all my cards and am still waiting for new ones in the mail.:crying: If only I had set this up before.... Id still have to cancel those cards, but I could have loaded up my google wallet prepaid account first and been set for a while. anyway I guess I'll see what you mean when I get my replacement cards in the mail and they don't work with this.

no luck here
Just got the Note 2 last week. no google wallet (US - Sprint version of the phone).
Does anyone know of any NFC wallet style apps that will work with the Note 2?

There is already a thread about this somewere and shows u how to get it working..

[Q] Questions about bad ESN Verizon version

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum so hope I'm not repeating too many older threads.
I was looking for an Android device I could use as a media player and while my Galaxy Player 5 has been okay, I really would like something with the latest software updates directly from Google. Unfortunately, besides the Nexus One, no other Nexus device has a microSD slot so I need ~32gb storage and something more portable than the Nexus 7...thus, I'm left with the 32GB Verizon version. As I don't live in the US, I thought I could just get a bad ESN one off eBay but I had a few questions first:
1.) Besides the cellular radio, will a bad ESN version of the phone still function as normal?
2.) Does it have a SIM slot/support GSM frequencies? If so, does a bad ESN mean it won't work with Verizon or not at all? Just good to know for future reference, I suppose.
3.) Will this version of the Galaxy Nexus still receive updates directly from Google or is it one of those odd ones that has carrier limitations? If not, how healthy is the dev community for this version of the phone?
I think that's it. Thank you for any help you can offer!
It'll function.
No, it doesn't support GSM.
It gets updates from Verizon.

Wow, that was a fast reply! Thanks for clearing that up.
Also, apologies to the forum admins. Just read the first thread about posting questions in here. Duly noted!
I recommend you get the gsm one, and a 32gb thumb drive.
Will the next nexus have a longer screen?

Verizon only requires that Google does extensive QA before release and provides a report on said testing.
The OTAs come directly from Google. Verizon does not touch them.
Note: Previous delays in updates were not due to Verizon's requirements but rather their ****ty hybrid CDMA/LTE network issues. Not to mention, Qualcomm is really anal about Google releasing open source CDMA binaries.

The binaries are not open source. Neither are the GSM ones.

Who is sick CDMA phones not getting latest updates? Nexus included...

OK I have two lines of vzw service. I am so sick of having to wait almost a year for an updated is but by then that is outdated as Google will have 4.2 but key lime pie will be announced soon... I got so sick of it I already traded on phone a RAZR xt912 for a iPhone 4. I placed another ad on craigslist to trade my galaxy nexus.... this update crap of even a nexus having to wait months is crap. I am gonna try to trade my 32gb galaxy nexus for an iPhone 4 or 4s or 5....

Yes I agree. You see apple can release an update and when Apple says its available its available.... so if apple can do it then Google can as well. Google should never announce the newest version until all phones that can handle it are ready for it.

Different story with Android vs Apple. The entirety of Apple's lineup doesn't even equal one year's worth of Android releases, so there are far fewer device builds to write for. In addition Apple is completely in charge of the manufacturing process for their products, whereas Google is only partially in control of one. Even with all of that nonsense though, the manufacturer skins and carrier testing are the major bottlenecks for the pace of update releases.

Still that's no excuse... the base is should be upgradable just like in windows phone series... Google needs to stop custom market skins like sense ui and touchwiz or make parts of them optional like how go launcher go dialer go SMS all are. Also android hardware should be all the same.. let the device look different by the external design such as glass plastic metal and such...

Why go for CDMA in the first place? GSM is the way to go. I don't care for the lousy LTE speeds, anything I need can be done with 5mbps.

It came down to me having to pay past bills to att and T-Mobile... Verizon was no deposit...
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Here are your two reasons:
1) Google releases source code, and relies on an open platform. CDMA is NOT an open platform. So verizon/sprint/etc get to dictate terms.
2) Verizon HATES open platforms/being told what to do. This is why you see the CDMA GNex not getting timely updates (vzw/sprint has to OK it) and also why you see vzw blocking Google wallet, adding in their apps.
If you want ALL carriers to stop their bull****, stop buying their phones and start buying open platforms such as unlocked gsm nexus phones. The carriers make a lot of money off their subsidized phones and accompanying plans. Remove their power, and they'll listen.
Also, the reason apple can update the way they do is: a "unified" userbase, and not having an open platform.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
What I'm sick of is people buying CDMA phones then crying when they don't get the update immediately. You knew this was coming when you bought the phone. Delayed CDMA updates have happened before, it's nothing new. It's like complaining about waiting in line at the DMV.
I am upset because I was under the impression that a Galaxy Nexus was a true nexus and I was sure I would get the full experience. I wish I would have known the CDMA GNex wouldn't be as supported as the GSM GNex

then i have to pay full retail price of the phone and about a grand for an iphone 5 and about 700 to 1 grand for an s3... and then the nexus 4 has no lte. The update 4.2 was released today by google and i still dont have it on my gnex from verizon. All nexus devices should be like iphones and be world phones.. apple can program them at the factory as to cdma or gsm.... so them we can jail break them and switch between gsm and cdma....

Yes.it is googles fault. They should handle all updates via the play store for all os. I went to vzw they blame Google... Google blames carriers...
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Have you read up on this at all? Basically the drivers for the CDMA technology is what holds the process up.. that's a carrier problem. GSM is an open standard where CDMA is closed, so carriers have to get involved with Google to make sure updates work the way they're supposed to. ESPECIALLY with LTE.. which is why there's no LTE on the Nexus 4. Your best bet is T-Mobile. I'm fine with that. T-Mob is actually pretty good in my area and HSPA+ is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than Sprints crappy 3G and non-existant LTE service.
All that to say. No it's not Google's fault. They ARE handling the updates OTA where they can.. but Sprint and Verizon have to lock down the radio's and what not. I actually applaud Google for going the route they did with the Nexus 4. It's a philosophy I'm willing to support with my dollars. I'm willing to give up LTE ... which i technically don't have now anyway.

The GSM GN only ran at $350 plus tax which is a very reasonable price considering you're not going to be tied to contracts and are free to switch from carrier to carrier with the same device.

I did read in an article that was putting down using tablets as phones that one of the guys was using a Samsung Tablet as a phone but is said that he put his sim card in it and I have not seen a Samsung Tablet that lets you open the back (not counting my Note 3)...
Thanks for the info and now I need to work on ERick to make an Alliance ROM for this..., LOL

No the international version of these tabs all work as phones. At least the 7" & the 8".
I have been using the T211 on T-Mo as an everyday phone. It should work with AT&T as well.

When we flashed the original stock LP update on the DE phones it broke the screen brightness adjustment. The kernel had to be replaced to fix it. Doing this gave the phone great battery life because there were tweaks that enhanced it.
Personally, I could never own a locked phone. The Verizon Note 2 originally was unlocked. Those of us who rooted them were able to keep them unlocked. The non rooted community eventually got an update that locked them. My Note 4 DE may be my last Verizon phone. They actually seem to be winning out against the development community.
