I have the ATT Galaxy s3, and I was thinking of rooting it. But honestly I have no knowledge of what rooting is. So like I read before if I dont know anything about it, or dont have a reason to then stay away from it. So I have been waiting for this new Jellybean software to some out. Does anyone know a set date that its suppose to happen? I got an update the other day but I still have the same Android version, the file size was 82.05mb. What was that for???
The software update includes:
- Near Field Communications (NFC) capability, which enables ISIS Mobile Payments.
- Updates on the Flipboard Application
- Screen Lock Updates
- Enhanced Keyboard Updates
- Implement All Share Cast
- Implement Enterprise-Grade Authentick IPsec VPN
As for jellybean....who knows.

Jelly Bean will be here soon.
Any update that is, say under 100mb on the high side, is nothing more than a patch or incremental.
Believe me when I say this. When JB comes out, there will probably be 10 "I just got JB" threads popped up in each of the variant SGS3 fora. So you'll know for sure when it is out.

Hi all,
Hopefully this is quick -- i did search several threads but didn't find a solution to this issue.
installed Samsung drivers
I rooted my Epic with noobnls - oneclick 2.5.5
updated PIT and modem with Odin
got to the clockworkmod screen
downloaded ViperROM__FRoZeN__EXT4-RFS_Dual_DK28_4.0.3
to the SD.
Wiped data and cache 3x,
installed Viper zip from the SD - successful.
went to reboot and ......
all i get is a phone symbol ..caution sign....PC symbol (some kind of connection to PC error)
I did a wipe and reinstalled Viper - same thing.
any ideas - I'm hoping this is a simple fix so I don't have break this down to stock and try it all over.
Thanks in advance.
PS- hate samsung and sprint for stalling out on a minor update and leaving this phone in the back closet.
Those symbols mean use odin
I think best thing for u t do is odin to stock and get ota froyo
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
yeah - trying to get it back to stock Odin
not sure on why I should do ota froyo since it doesn't exist yet.
plenty of stable ROMs.
it was all good up until the reboot after installing Viper.
then blah.
I'll just keep working on it.
I meant get it on monday

get it on Monday -- haha.
it's not coming out. another rumor based on nothing. If it was coming out - you would think that one of those douchbag companies would have put something official out - b/c they both taken a lot of crap for the delay. Unless they want it to be a big surprise - but I'm guessing they aren't announcing anything b/c at the last second - they'll pull it again for more "testing" ie adding more bloatware/useless crapps.
i made up my mind -- going to custom froyo instead of stock -
btw - got it back to stock and will try Viper again tonight or tomorrow.

Sprint put it out on their facebook page, their twitter account, and their community forums. 2.2 officially rolls out on 2/21.

same rumors about it being released after Christmas - so I'll still take it with a grain of salt - maybe it happens, maybe it doesn't.
Again, if it does come out - it is going to be some crap version poked and proded by Samsung and then approved by Sprint missing the good stuff but full of junk - so I'm gonna skip it anyway.

To address your issue, not to insult you, but when you say you got it back to stock to you mean stock dk28 or stock DI18? The viper rom you chose is only compatible with dk28. But again, no real reason to deal with dk28's bugs when official froyo is right around the corner
I don't care how many times Sprint or Samsung say "it's coming soon" - until it actually goes OTA - it doesn't count. They've been jerking people around for 6 months and are already 2 updates behind.
I got it back to DI18 using Odin and just reset the whole thing. I was under the impression that DK28 was pretty stable.
thanks for the insight.

This. The last the last time we had an "official date" from sprint it was leaked unofficial info that turned out to be wrong. This time, Sprint has put notice up in several places, included the authorized service center news for all of their indirect retailers (non-corporate stores and kiosks). Unless something major happens, we're actually getting it this time.

Google has to add pimp support to 2.3.5 first before it can go on our phones.
I'm running 2.3.7 on my Nexus S 4G right now and honestly...I've never seen much in the way of performance with these updates. Mostly just stability and bug fixes.

XWKI8 - For Nordic Countries
No differences found as yet, only that its much quicker than KI3 and also has improved battery life.
Stuff we already know:
1. Over scroll glow (a yucky one that too) - NO more bounce effect (THANK GOD!)
2. New firmware number (umm… )
3. More detailed power saver mode (under settings)
4. If profile is "Sound + Vibration" a vibration logo appears in the notification bar (BUG)
5. Endless loop scrolling between home screens
6. SIP no longer supported
7. Improved battery life
8. Improved sound quality
9. You can now change discovery period for BT devices. -rickytenzer
OTHER GENERAL STUFF NOTICED:
1. More blueness across the board added, maybe bracing for ICS?
2. Ridiculously smooth notification pull downs and smoother graphics and animation rendering everywhere.
3. At least 30% quicker than my older KG1.
4. Back button works lethally fast.
5. Anti-aliasing on fonts a leap better than older builds
6. Faster and better response in Voice talk app
7. New video maker app (not sure if that’s new ☹ )
8. Notification icons take lesser space in the notification bar
9. Support pulled for many older bluetooth devices
More detailed Changelog:
CLOCK:
1. Multiple alarm entries can be selected and deleted at one go. (in alarms press menu> delete)
2. World clock is revamped, where the clock goes dark if indicating time of a country that is currently sleeping.
3. New desk clock feature (in clock, scoll the top tab where alarms, world clock etc are located to your left)
4. Overall, the themes are going more blue across the board.
CALENDAR:
1. Week view is more comprehensive now (not meant for the big thumbed!)
2. Improvements in creating calendar entries.
MUSIC PLAYER:
1. Still sucks like hell!
2. New animation when changing songs by swiping the cover in the “now playing” screen.
3. Wider sound stage, better sound management, better 5.1
4. Lower volumes via speakers and Bluetooth headsets
BROWSER (INTERNET):
1. New animation and look when switching tabs.
2. Removed tab numbers in the open tabs overview
3. Speed improvements.

CAMERA:
1. Improved cam quality
2. Improved UI and multi touch support when viewing recently clicked via camera.
GALLERY:
1. Now can directly access camera from Gallery (Top right)
2. New revamped path bar (on the top, when accessing folders or pictures)
3. Much faster thumb-nailing scripts and quicker rendering
4. Revamped options bar (the one that comes up at the bottom of every pic with options send via and delete)
5. Can see picture previews before entering any folder (just pinch any bunch outward to see a photo flow)
6. New zoom in and zoom out buttons when viewing pictures (on top right)
MARKET:
1. New market (takes some time to update after flashing)
2. Minor speed improvements
MY FILES:
1. Option to view as thumbnails.

Yeah I would really like to see us get an update to 2.3.7 while it did just add wallet it would be nice to get the stability improvements that have been added. And maybe a fix for the AOS bug we have been having also.
I wouldn't even begin to worry about that until you see the overseas Galaxy's S get theirs.
They normally see the updates at least a few months before we see ours.
I would agree with that but the T-Mobile is shipped with it which makes no sense for us not to get it

What any other phone has or ships with has no bearing on when we will get it...in America and especially with a Samsung.
Samsung isn't renowned for their timely updates. That may have changed, as many things have suggested. But even assuming that Samsung already has the update finished it has to go through a rigorous (read: long, tedious and painful) testing process and carrier approval. Lets not forget all the bureaucracy involved at every level of management in every department in each of the companies.
I come from a long line of HTC phones. HTC is pretty fantastic about getting updates out in a timely fashion...but...they still suck at it for the aforementioned reasons.
Wait for CM7...it'll very likely come much sooner.
Does the OG Epic even have GB yet? CM7 on my EVO4G hit GB in, what, March? April? When did it come out officially for the EVO4G? June? ...and that was a major update. These tiny point releases aren't something I would ever hold my breath for.

What leads you to believe that they haven't already released it to the carriers?
The system overseas is a lot different than what we have here. Over there you buy the phone you want and then pick your carrier. We do it backwards. Over there you deal with Samsung for warranty issues. We deal with the carrier. Over there you get your updates from Samsung. We do not. That is the holdup.
It is likely that Samsung is nearly ready to release (or already has released) the update to the carriers. Now the carriers have to go through it and check it, add bloatware, maybe even remove features (like tethering) if Samsung doesn't do that for them.
Remember that, we don't get our updates from Samsung or HTC or LG or Motorola. We get them from the carrier or from the manufacturer after it has already received carrier approval. Over here Samsung doesn't deal with (any but the most severe) problems from a buggy release, the carriers do.
While nobody actually knows 100% WTF the deal is with how up-their-ass the carriers are me and many others assume this to be the reason why it takes so damn long for phones to be released over here after being released to the whole world (sometimes they are released here first just to be released first...but when they are released here afterwards it is because of all of this crap unless it is dealt with very very very carefully and intentionally).
All that said I stick to my main point: Don't bet on minor point releases. After all the bull**** they have to deal with it just isn't worth it for very minor versions. CM comes through reliably once it is on your device.
That's coming with dual boot.

You got me there, true we really don't know if Sprint already has the update and hasn't released it.
Someone else mentioned Tmobile already has 2.3.5 unless I'm mistaken though that's the only Galaxy S running that particular processor. I'm pretty sure that Sprint and the overseas versions are all running the 1.2 Exynos.

Lol. Yeah, I forgot about that. They got the Snapdragon 1.2 ....I really wonder wtf that is all about...I mean...wha? Did Samsung have a boatload of them on hand for some reason? Is there a benefit we don't know about? I don't think so...I mean....I don't get it.
That's probably why they get it. They had to create an entire new build for it so they decided they might as well build it with the latest version.
Wow...even though it looks more like the rest than the AT&T version it truly will be the red-headed stepchild of the family.

Nope, I flashed the ROM then downloaded a couple of apps from the Market as I was doing that I got the email.
All the links go to Google. I am just wondering is it something buried in the ICS code. Once you log on with your Google account it sends out a standard email to the account.
I don't really want to bother any of the dev's with it. They have enough to worry about right now without someone hassling them about something that is not that important in the grander sceme of things.
It's because the galaxy nexus is the only ICS Device with release codes for market so far. That will disappear once a more similar HTC device is released with ICS and we have a broader selection of release codes to choose from. Earlier beta's ran on test codes. They can be changed in build.prop.
Cheers man. I just could not understand it since it did not happen when I flashed the 1st and 2nd beta roms.
Thanks for posting this MrBC I also got this email and was curious about it.
I got this email as well MrBC...
Of course they can track what ROM use are using to browse android market. For example, I have recently update to Android revolution 2.3.5 and now not able to install few app which I used to have earlier on stock ROM 2.3.4.
I also got this
just ignore it lol
what i wondered was if it thinks we have a nexus why can we still not see some android apps lol
It's still beta so there are plenty of bugs. Its possible that there is a framework bug, or some component is missing. Then there is still the fact the a lot of apps on market are listed as not compatible with ICS. I'd expect it to take until 2012 before we have a fully functioning ROM and a fully working market.

I'm not sure if Google Now is what they will remove. Besides, this is only a temporary workaround just to be able to sell phones again. If they can dismiss and prove Apple wrong they will put the feature back and also get about 95 million from Apple which had to put this much in bond to be able to mitigate.
Apple is so scared of competition they will try to do whatever it takes to eliminate it. Since Google Now is light years from that dumb Siri, it really shows how little resources Apple has compared to Google. After all, we all know none of Apple's engineers can think alike... they all "think different"
Probably the quick fix for now to work around the injunction. Hopefully a '#boycotapple=true' flag needing to be set to re-enable.

Lol. Nice.
They are changing the search so for example if I type pulse in the search bar I get a preview of what's available. If I have pulse installed I can launch the app right there. Its a universal search that apple is up on arms about . The OTA will just show online results and not the app installed on the device. This was what was filed in April, there are no lawsuits yet on the Google now features. But you can count on apple finding something that relates to one of their rephrased patents that already exist

The only thing I use unified search for:
1.) Google Searches
2.) Looking up artist/song name to automatically start playing (which could be done in 1-2 extra clicks anyway).
Like the title says, has anyone gotten it yet or did Android central just assume because the leaked Samsung time line for 4.3 updates had proven on 2 other devices that it was correct? All the videos I've seen on TV 4.3 on a note 2 are kind of lame.
The main points to the upgrade are
- sound and photo in camera
- s4 style settings menu
- knox (which might void your warranty)
- a couple new icons
- new gpu driver (6% boost I think)
- daydreams
- lockscreen widgets.
Things were not getting
- S4 weather widget
- ANY note 3 features (air command..)
Any thoughts?

I haven't received it and when I am notified, I will not be taking it. I like having root and I want nothing to do with KNOX so I will be waiting until the guys over in development get some ROMs going and with that will come at least some of the features not included with stock. For now, just forget about it and go on with daily life. I know that seems stupid, but it makes the time it takes to actually get the update you want go much faster.
From what I can tell on Sprint's site, they probably changed it because people were calling in like crazy wondering where their update was when it is being rolled out in waves and maybe not at all yet. It WILL come soon though and there will be all kinds of fun to be had with the new software I am sure.
