Since Jelly Bean is only out on GN I figured this would be the appropriate place to put this:

I know this has already been discussed in other JB threads and voice actions are somewhat gimmicky but that is really cool. Impressed by the sports and local stuff.

Just got word that Samsung and Google are working together to push out the OTA update to REMOVE this function to get around the apple dispute

I'm not sure if Google Now is what they will remove. Besides, this is only a temporary workaround just to be able to sell phones again. If they can dismiss and prove Apple wrong they will put the feature back and also get about 95 million from Apple which had to put this much in bond to be able to mitigate.
Apple is so scared of competition they will try to do whatever it takes to eliminate it. Since Google Now is light years from that dumb Siri, it really shows how little resources Apple has compared to Google. After all, we all know none of Apple's engineers can think alike... they all "think different"
Probably the quick fix for now to work around the injunction. Hopefully a '#boycotapple=true' flag needing to be set to re-enable.

Lol. Nice.
They are changing the search so for example if I type pulse in the search bar I get a preview of what's available. If I have pulse installed I can launch the app right there. Its a universal search that apple is up on arms about . The OTA will just show online results and not the app installed on the device. This was what was filed in April, there are no lawsuits yet on the Google now features. But you can count on apple finding something that relates to one of their rephrased patents that already exist

The only thing I use unified search for:
1.) Google Searches
2.) Looking up artist/song name to automatically start playing (which could be done in 1-2 extra clicks anyway).

I just saw articles about this new software and it looks promising. Nuance has been doing voice recognition for a long time so perhaps they have finally brought Siri like functionality to Android.

Only problem is that as of now, it can't be found in the market on our phones and the market says our phone is not compatible when I search from a computer. Does anyone know how to get the .apk? I'm sure the market will allow us to download it soon but I don't like waiting.
Also, has anyone tried this on another phone yet? Any feedback?
The apk can be found in the comments in your link
Thanks. Didn't realize it was already there.

Where is the money?
As a Dragon user on the PC I can tell you that Nuance isn't known for giving things away or doing anything for cheap. Since they aren't charging for this app, at least not yet, makes me wonder where the money is.
I was just watching the Google IO Keynote live stream (I know, everyone's ideal way to spend a nice afternoon), and I saw this company that was getting featured by Android called Ekata Systems who launched their app Tapestry at the show. It seems to be a synchronized slideshow between JB devices with some snazzy twists that I've never seen any app do. It works best when you're trying it with a friend/family member so there are at least two devices (phone and/or tablet) to highlight the features though. You can check out the interview here, and the app here.
Talk about bleeding edge...only available on Jelly Bean. It uses this new feature called WiFi Direct that creates a local P2P network between 1:N clients. I'm playing with it with my co-workers and it is pretty sweet.
Is it for sure only for JB? The image in the app info shows a GSII and a Droid RAZR.

I tried the app w/ my wife, who has a GNex running JB, and I have a brand spank'n new N7. It was awesome seeing the phone control a slideshow on the bigger screen of the N7, and we were scrolling through her pictures. It is almost like a mobile power point slideshow. There is a nifty feature we discovered, where if you do a swipe gesture on the viewing device, the image downloads directly to the device...which is weird because my N7 was not connected to WiFi at the time. Anyone know how it could've gotten the file without being connected to a WiFi AP? I heard something about WiFi Director but don't know what that is.
I did a quick search, and WiFi Direct is essentially a P2P protocol over WiFi. It doesn't required a live WiFi AP connection, so it works pretty much anywhere. I don't think I've seen any app use WiFi Direct, so thought it was pretty neat.

Not to squash innovation but doesnt Instagram already kinda suit the need? I clearly see the differences but I think its splitting hairs in the solution dept. New App, less community, faster death. Unless its truly compelling.

Less community....watching the guy talk about it in his Google IO video...I think that is almost the point. It is not to go wide and online and asynchronous....but closer and more intimate and more synchronous. A completely different approach to the experience of photo sharing.

That's one of the cool features of galaxy s3, share shot, was wondering when it will be out for all, and here it is.
Is this feature not available on the Nexus S? I tried the app, but it didn't seem to work. It does seem to work on my wife's Galaxy Nexus, but without a second device, it's hard to actually test/enjoy it.

Yeah, sounds like from the feedback of another member that the Nexus S, although running JB, doesn't support WiFi Direct so it may not work. Pretty sweet when you get it going though. Time to buy a Nexus 7 so you can hook up with your wife's GNex!
My sister-in-law got the JB update on her Sprint GNex phone and is trying out the app and having problems. Anyone else try downloading/using the app and have a Spring GNex w/ JB? Kindly advise if you're having problems using the app.

Crittias. I just got an auto-update notice a few days ago that Tapestry has updated, and supposed it supports all the way back to Gingerbread. Sharp move, since not everyone is going to have JellyBean devices, so with Gingerbread, 85%+ of Android users can finally use the app. Should come in handy this holiday season when using the app, since nobody else in my entire family has JellyBean. Cromagnons! =)
I saw a demo online comparing s voice to google voice search, and of coarse for 95% of the things google won no contest, but I was surprised that s voice could say update twitter and give a message and work, where google could not do this at all yet. Just wondering if they are planning on it being able to do basically everything the other can but better?
You mean Google Now? I believe it comes with every phone/tablet that has JB. If we get JB on the S3 then we will get Google Now, unless they disable it so we become stuck with garbage S Voice.

Yes this is what I meant. Again if you look online for demos one of them shows that it works well, but still does not have full control or access to all apps and such, it literally gives an error that the feature is not working yet. I can only assume since it gives that actual error that they are planning on it having this ability soon, which makes since.

I dunno, I tried Google now and really didn't find it all that great. I couldn't launch apps or dictate what I want done on the app. s voice has been pretty solid for me.

Judging from the recent i9300 international JB leak, it looks like we will have access to both S-Voice and Google Now. So for those who prefer one over the other, it looks like SGS3 users will be able to use either which is good news. I was hoping that Samsung wouldn't remove Google Now from the JB rom when it comes out and so far looks good
I kinda hope they just put the ability to control apps in Google Now, I would not want to have to swap from one to the other just to ask a question, then swap to the other to launch an app. Might as well just launch it manually if your gonna have to do that each time. S Voice is only better for this one thing, ask it anything that requires it to look on the web for the answer and its slow as hell, Google Now is the best for this now, better than siri, so add in the app control and its the king.
I hope with the official JB release coming out soon we will find out for certain if Google Now will have full app controls like s voice.
S voice six because its developed by vlingo who IMO was the worst assistant app... I have the note with paranoid android 4.1.1 and Google now is awesome..until someone ports it to your device I recommend assistant from the Google play market

Thank you!! - MBQ

I like being able to get to the weather quickly or being able to track sports scores easily. So I use it everyday. I just set my home key long press action to open voice commands and I love it! When paired with mic'ed head phones it's powerful.

Yeah I use it all the time, at least once a day. My most common use is to find out the weather, I usually ask if it is raining outside before I ever get out of bed. I have the iPad too so I've gotten to pit Now vs Siri, and like everyone else's results: Now understands me better, is faster, and has access to much more information than Siri. Probably my second most common use is asking about movies - running time, cast, etc. Another thing I love about now is it brings up my tracking info for stuff I buy on Amazon. If I lived in a high traffic area I would definitely get some use out of the traffic (delay) feature.
My one complaint right now is that it doesn't know or recognize SEC teams.
(Alabama fan - ROLL TIDE)
I think that Google Now has full potential only in 'Merica and Great Britain. Maybe Germany. It's a great tool, but not useful in most conutries because it is not supported at all. I wish in Croatia got like 50% of it, In my case, I use only the search
Thanks for your guys' input. I didn't realize how handy it is!! should I start a poll?

No, I tried but couldn't get used to that and a lot of features are made to us citizes, so, I have it disable.
Hi,
I use Google Now quite often. Switching to Google Now from anywhere in the phone swiping up on the home button is extremely nifty. The way I have it set up, it usually displays weather and transit information for nearby transit stops, which lets me know when I should leave home to catch the bus & whether I should be taking my umbrella with me or not.
Also, if you set it up correctly, if I have looked up a restaurant on Google Maps on my laptop, when I leave home and switch on Google Now, it automatically opens up direction/navigation to the restaurant (or any other location you search for). I was surprised the first few times it happened, but now I love this feature.
Another, favorite feature is if you have an appointment in your Google Calendar, with the exact address mentioned in the location of the appointment, Google Now just pings me indicating that its time I leave from wherever I am, so I can make it to my appointment in time, and of course, it tells me what my next appointment is and also transit details.
I also use Google Now to set quick reminders for example: Google set a reminder in 20 minutes "Take the beer out of the freezer" and Google sets an alarm for 20 minutes for now with the text as "Take the beer out of the freezer"! Perfect-o!
Besides, always use it for simple searches and conversions: how much is 20 pounds in kilograms, etc.
Last, but not least, Google! Open "App Name" launches whatever app you select.
All the time to keep track on weather sports, location, activity, and currency when I travel abroad

I was first thinking it was just something for the htc first. But now I'm under the impression that it's going to be a replacement launcher like apex or nova.
I thought it was announced? It's a launcher, but it's more integrated than other launchers as it also replaces the lockscreen and has that overlay. Personally, as a college student who uses facebook for communication and stalking his friends, I'd use it lol.

All I can find are enablers that don't work on most phones this one included
