Have I bricked my GS3? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Ok, so I searched high and low and saw nothing about anyone who couldn't get there GS3 to boot at all . . .
So My rogers I747M was succesfully rooted with Odin root not trip. And then i flashed It with the generic rooted jelly bean ROM. Successful again everything seemed fine. So i was confident in shooting for CM10(even though ive had troubles in the past) And i put the zip. in the sd and booted into CWM recovery and did a factory reset, cache and dalvik. Went to install CM10 from sd and it gave me error 7. so i reboot device and loaded into the stock rooted jellybean again to try and put another fill in the SD. Tried booting into recovery again. Now nothing at all, I have tried pulling the battery, even for hours. And then button combos..Nothing. Leaving cord in with battery out, button combos, battery in...Nothing
I'm afraid of the worst ATM, i had the unbrickable Captivate before this with my JIG and all, I'd did this to that phone, but the JIG saved me.

So the phone doesn't boot and you can't enter recovery?
The error 7 was cause by you not having the latest version of cwm.
Now for the brick part: try pulling out the battery, put it back and do the button com to enter recovery , old it for like ten seconds. Then plug it to your computer to see if Odin dectects it.
Once you tried it give me some feedback and I will check for further help. But if you are sure you didn't flash a wrong ROM for your device or a wrong kernel. The error 7 shouldn't have bricked your phone

Still No luck, whenever i try to plug it in the computer, it just gives me three quick "DUH_DUH_DUH"s as is to tell me the computer failed to recognize. I'm afraid i may have to take it back to rogers, it's not two weeks old yet so perhaps ill get away with defective, i wonder if they deem that sort of thing in store or at the depot. Because i know they wont get it too boot there, so if they did it in store perhaps ill just get an exchange

Yeah go ahead with the replacement they will not check into it. Worst case scenario, they will fix it and send it back to you

And luckily i woke up early this morning with confidence that I could spill some crazy story that made it sound like it overheated and died, and now I've got a new one, best be careful with this, i think im going to stay away from CM10, its killed 2 phones of mine lol, I believe any answer i will get will say that it was a user error thanks anyway !!!

Sounds strange. What exactly did you flash before hand? From/kernel/mods anything.

Odin you noob. Why do you even waste time with posting such useless garbage? If you can't get back to stock from Odin then post.
I handed my phone to my mother to show her a picture and when she went to hand it to my aunt, my aunt dropped it. I didnt think nothing of it when I locked the screen but when I went to unlock it, my phone restarted and went to a straight black screen and started to vibrate over and over again. I tried to pull the battery and then re-insert it and boot into recovery but when recovery showed up and I went to restore to a previous ROM the phone rebooted itself and started vibrating again. Now I'm at the computer trying to place it into Download Mode. The screen pops up that says to either push Vol + for Download or Vol- for restart. When I press Vol+, the phone restarts and goes straight to a black screen again.
And I'm not a noob, I know what I'm doing my phone just started acting up
And I'm Running the AOKP ROM with Eugene's ICS Kernel with the Tmo_SGH-T989_LC8_Radio
What previous from were you trying to restore?? When you restore a nand back up you have to make sure that the rom you're restoring is the rom that's already installed. In other words if you wanted to restore a back up you would have needed to flash the correct rom before hand. Though I'm confused because if you did try and restore a previous rom say a cm9 back up and you have aokp currently installed it shouldn't work. Cwm will tell you there's a mismatch and it aborts the installation. My guess is this drop did some damage. Your phone isn't making it past post per say of your using pc terms. Can you try and boot back into cwm? You said download mode doesn't work. But does cwm?

I don't know what I did but thankfully I got it to boot into CWM and I'm restoring my ROM
maybe hardware problems if you dropped it, wasn't bricked, we usually say bricking a phone from bad flash, don't we? lol, i am not sure. try taking off sim card, micro sd card and battery then carefully put them back on next time if you have problems from drops etc........
Got to admit the whole "Brick" wording gets thrown around way too much for my liking and lets be honest if you are not a noob then you know all the steps to take in my opinion to try and restore your phone. If those steps dont work and you have researched the web then let Insurance kick in if you have it.
Not trying to flame or be an ass but just saying any non noob should know the steps to try and bring our phone back from the dead... I dont think starting a "Brick" thread should be on that list... Coming from the epic touch where the ICS kernel was bricking everyone its just makes me cringe when I see that word.... My bad man if you don't care for my opinion

Here is my 2 cents
Yes people jump the gun and post bricked phone threads but that's probably because they are panicking.. And yes I agree that people should use the search function and read whenever possible.. And yes people should be reminded to do so..
But if you have the time to criticize someone then why don't you try to help them too..
If you have nothing helpful to add then don't post anything
I like my Roms the way I like my women..... Clean and smooth
I had this same problem, when I tried to go in to recovery and do a restore it would reboot its self even while flashing a Rom.what I did was...go in to recovery and quickly clear cache before it reboot then go back and clear dalvik then go back and try to flash the same Rom you had installed. It did work for mange when I was trying to restore.
Hope this helps

so you tried..
1. remove battery.
2. plug in phone to usb on computer with battery STILL OUT
3. while plugged in hold down volume up and down.
4. Still plugged in and still holding the volume up and down, insert your battery.
5. boom choose continue and find download mode.
If this doesn't get you to DL mode then either something broke hardware wise when you dropped it, OR your not being honest with what you did to cause the problem..

[Q] Bricked: No recovery mode, only download mode

My SGS2 was working all morning until I pulled it out of my pants after class today.
It was on rooted stock ics, and I have no idea how it could have bricked in the first place.
First symptom was a bootloop. Since I wasn't anywhere near a computer, I decided I would just factory reset/wipe data and cache from the recovery.
After the phone rebooted, it would not proceed further than the "SAMSUNG" screen. I could not enter recovery mode at this point.
I get home and I odin the same stock 4.0.4 ics onto the phone, as well as 4.0.3.
As of now, only download mode works. Every time I try to boot to recovery mode, it gets stuck at the "SAMSUNG" screen. Normally, the Samsung logo would have a glowing effect, but it seems to be frozen now. The animation for the battery is also frozen when it is plugged in when turned off.
Seeing as it can at least get into download mode, I am assuming there is still hope in fixing it without having to send it somewhere else?
Help is much appreciated :]
what recovery are you using?
what do u mean odin the stock ics? if your recovery isnt working, then just odin into a older recovery of cwm, here is the tar file http://www.mediafire.com/?nz97zv1g13d1tcz after that you will have your recovery back working again.
So what I did was reflash the stock kernal in hopes of unbricking my phone. Hope that clarifies things...
I just tried your method above, and it didn't work. It is still stuck on the samsung screen after rebooting. x_x
Use this link http://galaxys2root.com/category/galaxy-s2-unroot/ it well set u back to stock. Once it is done wait the 10 mintues then boot into the stock recovery and clear cashe and factory reset. After that set up ur phone then reroot it make back up then flash away. Did this a couple of days ago working fine now. Good luck!!!

biglil1, I believe method you described would fix phones most likely bricked from custom roms.
However, my phone has never use a custom rom and it is on stock already; it has only been rooted. I have tried reflashing the same stock back to my phone but I have had no luck. Again, it was working fine but suddenly bricked mid day. I wasn't trying anything super fancy that would have bricked the phone in the first place.
Someone please help, I tried looking everywhere for an answer...
Its not just for reseting from a costum rom it can be used to return ur phone back to stock like the first time u unboxed it. When plugged in do u see a box highlighted yellow? If so try it again but revert back to GB then use Kies to update to ICS. Make sure u have the latest drives. Hopefully this way well work. As long as ur phone has some type of response u can recover it. Just keep tring make sure u dont unplug untill Odin says "pass" and ur phone reboots by its self.

did you flash through odin or recovery? if you did it through odin, what kind of errors are you getting? maybe your download is bad? try to download from another source.

Okay I guess I'll be the first to post.
About an hour ago my phone shut off at 26% battery (16gb galaxy S3 running CM10.1 nightly 01/16). As I went to turn it back on it will boot into the CM splash screen spin a few times and just shut off. I attempted to charge it, and turn it back on but same thing. After that an attempt to get into CWM, which I was able to get in and it shut off while I was in it. I also tried putting the phone in download mode and about the same time frame it took for the other attempts resulted in a shut down.
Any advice? Or am I stuck doing a warranty exchange?

Sounds like its your battery not a hardware problem. Leave it overnight or a couple hours charging and if it indeed boots up its your battery.
If it doesn't then flash stock and test it if the same result then call up that Warranty. I've seen this same issue with other devices where the battery dies at 50%+ and usually replacing the battery fixes the problem. Test your battery for overheating or swollen.

Even better then lol just test it out at work. I'm about 80% its your battery specially if you OV/UC.
I have the t-mobile US t999.
Last night I was having an odd issue with the networking dropping. I've had the phone for about a month, modded since day 1 with a CM10 variation of a rom (sorry, I forget the exact rom). I had no issues whatsoever up until this point. After a few restarts thinking maybe it was a fluke issue with the network, or network signal in my room, the phone forced itself into emergency call mode only. I couldn't get it to come out.
So I decided I was going to odin on a stock rom as I could get it into download mode, that went through successfully. When the phone boots, I get the android taking off (Tmobile 4g) logo. Then the white samsung logo, and it doesn't go beyond this. I know this can take long so I left it there for about an hour, nothing. The phone also displays a blue led the entire time it's hanging as well.
Also worth noting, when I attempt to boot into recovery it just vibrates over and over.
Not sure what my next steps should be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

after you odin, you need to wipe data/ factory reset to boot. If you can't get into recovery ( Power, Home Button, and Volume Up), then try reflashing your stock image in Odin and check your MD5 sum, so you can rule out a bad download
Thanks for the reply, I'm re-downloading the stock rom now to verify it's integrity and do a new flash. I cannot get into recovery, so we will see after the new flash. Pleading ignorance on one subject, how would I go about checking the MD5 sum to verify the file has no issues?
Additionally I did try to Odin recovery and still could not boot into it, this was however before attempting to re-download and flash a stock rom again.
**Edit//Update** Re-downloaded and flashed stock rom, was able to get into recovery and wipe, booted up fine.
Wow.. great idea for a thread and THANK YOU!!
Perfect timing too cause i need a little help please.
I am not new to android but new to samsung (WOW, didnt realize it would be so different from HTC ont he rooting and flashing side of things).
Long story short. I have a tmo s3. Bought it today and wanted to root. phone was working perfectly as it shoudl on stock rom unrooted. I downloaded the tool kit v7, used that to root adn install TWRP and rebooted into the stock rom that is now rooted. Still everything working perfect.
Here is what i did next and where the issues start.
Downloaded Synergy r290, went to recovery.
Wiped Cache, Dalvik, Data, and System (made a backup first)
flashed the rom and rebooted to system
However, nothing ever happened. I see the samsung logo, then all goes black and nothing happens (left it there for 10min)
I cant seem to get back into recovery holding vol up, home and power either and have no adb access to use that. I AM able to get into download mode which i know i can fix my problem here with odin, but i am just not sure what to flash and where.
Is there an easier way??
Thanks in advance for any help!

If you absolutely can't get into recovery to restore your backup..
Flash the UVDLJA root66 file in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687 via odin. You will have the latest UVDLJA JB update, and will be rooted. From there, install goo manager from the play store to flash TWRP.
After that you're all set to flash whatever you want (just make sure it's for the Tmobile s3).

Weird problem. When I set kernel frequencies on my phone, they at some point get locked at the maximum frequency. This has happened every time I flash a new ROM or kernel, and I'm worried that it will soon start to affect the battery. I'm using the msmdvcs governor on both kernels that I've tried (stock and faux)

S3 won't boot - black screen

Hey folks,
I was trying to flash a custom kernel (Phenomenal Extreme 4.0) from Clockworkmod on a rooted stock 4.1.2 rom and kernel. I placed the zips on my sd card, then flashed, but it was unsuccessful. Then, when I rebooted from CWM's main menu, the phone went dead. Nothing worked, no buttons, no nothing. Any combination I tried failed, from a simple reboot, to reboot into recovery, to a reboot into download mode. Took battery out, and placed it back in, still nothing.
I'd appreciate any help you can give me! If there's anything like a factory cable, that is still better than nothing. I think I bricked it, and no warranty (Samsung's 3 month is quite short). When I plug the phone in, the laptop responds with a sound but it's not the usual sound when you dock the device. A balloon says that device driver installation failed. Then nothing happens. In any case, I rooted it and there's a flash counter of 1 on it, even if I'm running stock everything. Again, I appreciate any help!

Google jtag repair.
That's an expensive paper weight.
|When Emotion Goes Up, Logic Goes Down|
I made a Nandroid before messing around.
Once I do the JTAG repair, can I restore using that Nandroid after re-rooting and flashing CWM? The guy who will be doing the JTAG said that it's dangerous because there's a risk of bricking involved.
I would just restore things individually, personally. I don't know what you had on there, but is there anything that you can't restore some other way ?
That happened to me when i flash wromg kernel. And I had a panic attack...but I somehow manage to go into recovery mod....if you can go into recovery mod...have no fear back up is there lol
Just wipe everything and restore your backup.

I had the same problem when I first got my S3. I flashed a file that was for my S2 not realizing and the phone responded the same way or didnt respond at all. Im not saying this will work but you can try. Do the proper button combo to get into download. It wont show anything on your scrren but the phone could still be in download mode. Go ahead and try connecting it to your computer and see if odin will recognize it. Make sure you have your drivers installed and dont forget to push volume up to get all the way into download mode. It worked for me once before and I hope to never have to try it again. If you have already tried this then your out of luck and will have to jtag.
JTAG is no scam. It is a VERY reliable source! Go for it.

Never mind, warranty exchange. I don't want to send my phone to strangers, even if it's legitimate. Still $45-$60 on the credit card.
I have a question though, as long as the phone is under warranty, I can exchange for a replacement an unlimited number of times, right?

Yes you can...I did it with my S2 until I got one that did'nt have any signs of being refurbished. It looked brand new! I have even told them that something was wrong with the phone (hardware issue) when there was nothing wrong just because the one year warranty was about to run out and it had a few cosmedic blemishes..I have given them a lot of money in the past 9 years so I do'nt feel too bad... I did it with my Vibrant as well.

[Q] Is it bricked? If not what is it? What do I need to do? My life can depend on it.

Hi friends!!
After my S4 decided to run away without insurance I had to revert back to my s2. It still had Hellybean on it so I upgraded it to PA 4.45 just to check it out on my phone. Then I went into the instructions on how to unlock the phone. I went to revert it back to stock ICS that it came with to do so and when I rebooted it gets stuck at the samsung logo that pulses. I can't get into recovery but I still can get into download mode but nothing works when flashed. I tried using ODIN for every stock ROM available and still nothing. I never bricked a phone before and this doesn't seem like one to me since the bricks I fixed before have never been able to go into DL mode without being jigged, Can somebody help me. I need this running asap for medical reasons. I'm a sitting duck without this phone if something should happen to me. I live alone and have no land line if I need to call 911.

Are you trying to boot into recovery while you are plugged into a computer?

Of course not. But I think the problem may be that I didn't know that Kies was still installed in this computer.
And removing Kies didn't work either. I was talking to a guy that does jtag repair near me he said try that first. Gave me a pit file and it didn't help.

Here is something something that has worked for me twice. Use JOdin3 ( https://builds.casual-dev.com/jodin3/) Plug your phone in before going to the websute and put the TWRP tar file in PDA. Click start. It will say it needs to obtain a pit file. Click OK. Ignore the part about using in the download mode combo. It should bootloop your phone and you then might be able to unplug your phone and boot into recovery. I use this as a last resort but it has worked twice for me.
