Hello Everyone new here to the forum, I have been browsing around the forums, in search for a fix for the camera issue that seems to be happening frequently. I have a rooted HTC Evo4g everytime I flash a rom whether it be a SENSES/AOSP etc my camera will either work for a few minutes to a few hours then stop working completely leaving me with a blank black screen/or it will show the camera logo on startup and then a black screen. I've rebooted my phone, cleared cache, took out battery and still no permanent fix. I was looking around for a possible update, and am slightly confused as to if my phone requires one. Here is my information from my HBOOT hopefully this is all the information needed. Need anymore information please let me know. Thank you!!!

Question about your camera not working. By any chance did you drop your phone? My phone did the same thing as yours, the camera worked for a few minutes or the lcd goes blank, when it does, the camera app went into forced closed. I had a ic rom. I tryed to install the oem htc camera app, same results, forced closed. I searched on this forum and found out that the rear camera and the retaining clip to the camera popped off the logic board. I resecured the rear camera and retaining clip and retested. The camera worked after I reseated the camera and the clip. Hope that helps.

I have dropped my phone a few times in the past, maybe that's why its doing that?.. Cause I did flash a few kernels and it kept doing the whole working/not working thing whenever it wanted too. Is there a certain way you fixed getting the clip retained? Maybe try apply pressure to the back of the lens or something? And to the poster above me, its only alittle scratched, nothing that ever bothered it before, from what I've noticed.
Thanks for the helps much appreciated!

The best way to address this concern is to remove the back casing of the phone. First remove the battery cover. Then remove the battery from the phone. Remove the sim card. Use a torq bix screw driver with a T-5 sized bit. Remove the 6 torq screws on the rear cover of the phone. Use a plastic tool like a credit card, guitar pick or if you have phone tools like a plastic spludger or case separator tool. After you remove the 6 screws on the rear case, turn the phone to the side and you will use the plastic tools mentioned above to seperate the two case halves, the rear battery case and the front lcd, digitizer frame. Carefully pry the two cases apart. Lay the lcd case face down on a non scratch surface like a micro fiber towel to prevent scratching of the digitizer when servicing the rear camera. Now you will see the rear camera and the mounting bezel on the logic board. To see if the camera is unseated on the logic board, gently press the rear camera mounting bezel and camera at the same time, you should hear a click. Before reassembling the phone, make sure that the volume rocker and power buttons are still in place on the lcd frame. Then install the rear cover back on the lcd frame, make sure that the two cases halves snap together, use light pressure to seat the two cases together. Then install the 6 T-5 torq screws to the rear case. Tighten the case screws in a criss cross pattern, start with the four corners then tighten the screws gently without stripping the threads out. Install the sim card, install the battery, then the rear battery cover. Then power up the phone and recheck the camera for operation. This should address your concern. If you need more help, post back or pm me. Good Luck.

Hi,
I have an HTC Desire which is a little over a week old, though on Saturday I got my desire knocked out of my hand and took a fall onto gravel and the battery cover's camera lens cracked and now has a thick crack through the middle which is not much of a problem as it is easily replaceable, though the glass which covers the lens/sensor cracked into many pieces though I do not know if it is a filter of some sort or just some dust protector. (I can still use the camera without a problem).
Should I send it for repair to get the protector put in, or will I be ok just buying a new battery cover?
Thanks!
It's likely not just a filter of some sort, but an important part of the optical design. It could be replaceable, but normally replacing lens elements requires re-calibration of the entire lens itself. I doubt though, that they would replace just a part of the lens, they would likely swap the entire thing. I'm pretty sure HTC buy these lenses/modules already assembled and calibrated from someone who specializes in making such things.
Mac
Thanks a lot for the detailed reply! Will be sending to be repaired today. Thanks again
Hi All,
Just for everyone benefit i also cracked the back cover plastic screen and also the glass screen on the camera as well. The back cover is easily replaceable by a new back cover off eBay for £12.99 or the lens piece itself for about a £5 i think, which is easy to find but i decided to replace the internal glass myself. I found this on eBay for £7.49:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ORIGINAL-HTC-...UK_Mobiles_Accessories_RL&hash=item230c703e97
Using an old sack pin i manage to remove the cracked glass, the trick is to prize up the black plastic the glass is stuck too, that way no shards fall off into the camera itself.
I thoroughly cleaned the camera and new glass with an anti-static wipe.
You have to push out gently the four plastic stripes round the camera that the glass fits into so the new glass fits it snuggly when you push it in.
I did make a hash of it to begin with and touched the back of the glass so it was smudged and got a bit of glue on it. I put an anti-static wipe on the needle end of the sack pin and cleaned it thoroughly and this did the trick. To test it though use barcode scanner as well as the camera app.
I haven't much patience and have large fingers, i guess you could take more time and use more precise tools to do a better job but as the camera isn't the most important function for me this was fine.
I did contact the HTC repair shop that was listed on XDA and this was there reply:
Hi,
You’re looking at between £39.95 and £64.95
Thanks in advance

I guess if you have phone insurance that would be a better way to go but as i didn't i saved a few quid doing it myself, it only took 15 mins to do, not hard at all.
Good luck to anyone else who attempts this!
I had the same problem with my phone and I sent it away to redstafford.co.uk and I got it back in about 3 days, all new and shiny... highly recommend!
Is there any way to clean the dust in the camera lens?I think it affects my camera quality so it does not take quality picrures. Please help thanks!

I had not dust, but some kind of a residue that was making the lens cover "foggy" from the inside. I discovered it when I removed the back cover from my phone (for different reason). Cleaned it with a q-tip, which made pictures much better. So, if you are sure you have some crap inside, the only way to get rid of it is to remove the back cover, and clean it up. It's not a difficult task... You need to remove two screws at the bottom, and carefully pry your cover open, starting at the bottom, and working your way along the sides to the top. Don't forget to take out your SIM tray BEFORE removing the cover! When you're done, put the cover back, starting at the top, and snapping it in place along the sides, and down to the bottom. It's a bit tricky to hold side buttons in place while snapping the cover back on, but not too much...
Hi all,
i'm very disappointed because i'm just breaking my screen when my zenfone fall of 60cm.

Seems pretty easy, please check these videos:

I ordered a screen replacement on AliExpress. I've only cracked the glass on my phone, but I don't think it's possible to replace the glass on its own. (Unless you have the hands of a neurosurgeon and special equipment.)
Tried changing screen today, but it requires a complete disassemble of the unit. I managed to remove the back and disconnect the components, however I wasn't able to remove the battery since it seems to be glued (?) in place on one side. I even tried using quite a bit of force, but eventually I chickened out since the battery started bending. I have no idea how they do it so easily in the video. If anyone here has managed this disassemble I'd be very interested in getting some details.

Try using a hair dryer on the battery for a minute, but keep moving the hair dryer up and down, to spread the heat all over, this should make the glue soft enough to make it easier to peel the battery off.
Finally managed to replace the screen. This one was really difficult to repair compared to the previous phones I've worked on, but maybe in part because there are no complete instructions out there yet. Lots of glue and tape holding it all together.
The battery isn't really glued, but rather held down by some sticky plastic. (Kinda like chewing gum.) I don't think heating will help here. I used a long, flat plastic object to reach underneath and loosen it from the battery.
I forgot to take pictures, but here are the steps I took. You can find some photos for the first half of the procedure.
Remove 14 screws from the back cover
Carefully remove back plastic cover (double sided tape on center)
Unplug the three connectors going to the top PCB/SoC (these are screen, SIM/SD and battery)
Remove speaker (black piece at the bottom, nothing is holding it in place)
Remove bottom PCB: flip up the little black switch to loosen the connector cable next to the battery, then unplug the wire going to the top PCB, then you can remove it. Vibrator piece doesn't need to be unplugged.
Battery can now be removed, but is as mentioned fastened very well. Try to pull it up on the left side to reach under it.
Unplug digitizer connector on the left side of the top PCB. Just peel off the yellow take and pull it out.
Peel loose the part of the metallic shielding that fastened the top PCB to the surface under where the battery was.
Top PCB can now be removed, start from right side.
Peel off the little "sticker" the digitizer connector goes to. This is probably part of what you're replacing, so it doesn't matter if you destroy it in the process. Otherwise try heating it.
Screen can finally be removed. It's removed from the front of the phone, same as for Zenfone 5. Start at the bottom. It's fastened with glue along all sides. If you're hoping not to ruin the LCD while removing the screen you will probably need a heat gun and extreme patience.

Just cracked my phone. :crying:Thanks for the instructions. Before I decide to do this, are any of the adhesives necessary to put the phone back together?
Yes, order some double-tape for cellphones.
Glad I'm not the only one that succeded althought I scrapped the battery in my case .
I followed mostly the same steps but for anyone that want some pictures, I posted them in another thread

Can asus ze550ml screen will fit to ze550kl model
@Ptselv: probably best to start a new thread rather than hijack one that is several months old.
And to answer your question: No, a ZE550ML screen will not fit a ZE550KL phone. My suggestion: search AliExpress.com for "ze551kl digitizer" and you'll be likely to find what you need.
Hello everyone,
My phone screen started behaving like on this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIDmuiXc-Ms
The screen starts to flicker until it eventually fades to black.
If you check on the comments someone suggested "remove motherboard cover then put a little folded paper on top of camera connector then put the cover back on so the paper push the motherboard down...." . I used a piece of pencil eraser instead of paper and the problem seems to be GONE!!
P.S: I HAD THE WIFI SAVED BUT NOT CONNECTING ISSUE TOO, BUT IT HAS BEEN FIXED BY THIS METHOD AS WELL.
Thanks this is working so far

I've done this and it appears to be working... not sure for how long though. First tried it with a couple of pieces of thin card but that didn't work, am now using a cut up cigarette filter!
Needs to be about 2-3mm thick, enough to make it difficult to get the motherboard cover to fit at the top of the screen when you put it back on, and then tighten the screws enough to hold it in place. Bit trial and error with thickness, took me three attempts.
Image here shows where to put it Follow the arrow!
this worked for me for one month. Now my g3 is all dead
i put a piece of folded paper on the back camera's connector and it worked like a charm. then it started again. but this time i put another piece of paper above both cameras (front and back). thats because when you leave a folded paper on the left side (back camera) it lifts the other side. if the flickering starts again, leave 2 folded papers above the back and front cameras connectors

This worked perfectly for me except I used two thinly sliced pieces of pencil eraser. Thank you!
Are you using custom ROM or custom kernel? Initially I also thought it was hardware issue but after trying to trace it down it turned out it was a software one. The moment I root my original ROM it starts doing it. The absolute stock ROM doesn't do it.... at-least for me... still I haven't found the exact cause... It is a pure random... sometimes it do it all the time... sometime it could last a week (or until reset). I've noticed that it is OK for several days after flashing a ROM and then starts doing it again. For now my fix is to keep my custom rom and flash it from time to time (without clearing caches or anything).... Also you can clearly tell that it is probably a software issue by that the camera records perfectly video while happening... the sound is also working... gps ... everything works perfectly while it is happening (except for the screen).
It's also not an overheating problem... it could be however due to a ****ty battery as I notice slight increase of power when it is happening....

It's because you used heat retaining materia in there, it's should a heat resistant ones.
Any updates on this issue?
I recently ran across the same issue others were having with the back and front camera not launching after update. I did not believe it was hardware myself.
However, being a computer technician every test i ran pointed to hardware. So i dug into ny phone here is what i found.
I pulled my phone appart pulled out battery and mother board. Where the camera eletric ribbons connect to the back of the motherboard the ribbon clamp becomes loose after time, not enough to fully dislodge the ribbon but for it to become slanted causing the camera to be electronically active thusly causing the in use by other program error and black screen. Easy fix takes about 15 minutes a small screw driver and electronic tweezers
If you have been having this issue i hope this helps its a free reolution to the ze5511ml

Did you happen to have pics of the disassembly?
I did not take pics, however if you google "asus zenphone 2 disassembly" there are a couple videos that explain the process quite simply. My biggest tip would be to make sure you plug in everything exactly how it was when you dissasembled i forgot to plug in my touch screen when i first attempted so i had to go back and find the ribbon also the ribbon clamps ar white make sure you dont lift up the brown part or you will break your clamps

Just re-seated the camera ribbon on my ZenFone 2 and it worked for me! Front shows up blank, so I'm wondering if the front camera itself is fried... May try to pick up a front camera module for it cheap.

There is a separate ribbon for front facing.
Oh, I know. It just didn't work for me, and I managed to crack the front camera clip on the board... So, I rigged up some foam tape against the back of the screen to give it pressure, but that still didn't do it. It may be the module itself.
