Hi All,
just thought I would let you know the Desktop dock is now available from Expansys UK @ £49.99, showing 100+ in stock.
The price is not the best, but its the only place with stock at the moment.
Thanks
Just got mine from amazon
Got mine from Amazon (Germany) too, yesterday... like it very much, and got a nice surprise when the stock launcher went into portrait mode while docked --- EDIT: oh sorry, I meant Landscape mode of course.
It only charges the phone?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
From the looks of it only charging and audio + the infamous dock mode or at least thats what says on the site .
Can anyone check if it works with the CDMA version? What about the extended battery?
I am kinda upset now that this is available when I just spent some money on a MHL adapter.
I'm all for the desktop dock, but the issue I have is that little USB jack in the ass end of my phone is very delicate, and I'd rather not "jam" it down on any metal jack over and over and....you get the point.
Admittedly with dropbox and so forth the micro USB jack is only good for flashing roms, and for now charging.
I'm holding out for the pogo pin adapter.
A long time ago with my first microusb jack phone on my USB A to Micro USB Male cord I took the male jack and filed the "hooks" off of the USB connector so that it slid in easily with no force at all. I found it hard to gauge the force due to the "hooks" pushing back or a misalignment being the case.
I don't see the dock on Amazon or Expansys US sites, can anyone post a link?
I'd like a link as well.
Unfortunately for me, I was able to damage the USB port on the galaxy nexus (don't ask me how, I have no idea), and once I get the replacement part I wouldn't like to take the risk again.
It's a bit overpriced, but I think it looks cool to use it as a clock at side of my bed. Would be nice too if a USB port was on it, but I think it doesn't.

I think the topic creator was talking about this dock here that is available with the pogo pins
http://www.expansys.com/samsung-google-galaxy-nexus-desk-stand-226695/
Hey, it is not possible to turn the screen off while on this dock? I do not see a way to hit the power button like the car dock has (the button extension on the car dock itself).... That would really be a bummer....
Can anyone post a pic of the back?
I want to see if it works with the seidio extended battery.
I just called customer service to see why my order is still being processed and they told me it will be out of stock until april 10th. I wasn't going to play this "oh its coming next week" every week game with them, so I cancelled my order... I'll just buy from Amazon.de or Amazon.co.uk

Yes thank you, i wondered how people had got mixed up with the HDMI dock, which is obviously named and looks a lot different.........
so what you guys rate it out of 10? the reason i ask is i have a tendancy to break to micro usb ports on my phones, and think the pogo pins would save me from doing this....

Did you really? I have seen nothing on the availability of the back cover. Does it work with PowerMat?
I wonder if the inductive back works with the HP Touchstone?
Ya I read on engadget that they were available now and my Verizon store had 3 in stock. The official s3 charging pad isn't available yet but it worked fine with the Verizon/LG Qi compatible pad I have.

Damn. Was going to pick one up tomorrow to use with my touchstone. What a shame. Guess I'll keep waiting until Samsung released the official one. Hope they don't charge as much for the whole setup as Verizon is.
I think I read $90 total for the back + mat.... Unless it works differently than my DIY touchstone project.... why so expensive?

Just what we need, proprietary inductive charging.
How do they even make that work? Make a coil accept only a certain amperage, like .0895 exactly?

I don't think it is proprietary, as it has been said to work with other Qi standard chargers.

Its not an official Samsung Galaxy SIII inductive cover, but it is an official Verizon Galaxy SIII cover tho.
Verizon offer and has had them made for a couple of their devices actually.
Is it possible to get a picture of the underbelly of the battery cover. I know the Verizon variant has 2 additional pins near the sim slot that none of the others have. wondering which set of pins the Verizon cover uses. I'm assuming the lower pins making it useless for me anyways.
Samsung needs to hurry and release the real official inductive charging kit which works with ALL GSIIIs. Also an inductive charging car mount while their at it.

I dont think the cover works with any other Galaxy SIII other then Verizons tho. I'm thinking the back cover connects to the exclusive lower pins on the Verizon variant rather then the pin out all the SIIIs have. Sadly..
Hoping to get pics to confirm. Stopped by a few places today (well, yesterday) and none of the Verizon stores I went to had any.

The inductive battery cover from Verizon definitely connects to the lower pins that are exclusive to the Verizon phone. It also connects to the standard pins that are on the other phones. I guess it is so the Verizon phones will work with Verizon inductive chargers as well as Samsung chargers.

Yes, I saw that in the pics, it has contacts for both the VZW specific pins and the other "standard" S3 pins. It does look like it will work with both types of chargers.

The printing/part number of the VZW inductive cover, appears to be genuine Samsung.
Hi all,
I've been reading a lot of threads about wireless charging and one of the most frequently asked questions is:
"Does this work with my [insert case here]?".
Click to collapse
So I thought it would be a good idea to make a thread where everybody can check if their cases are compatible before they actually buy the kit.
The 'set-up' I'll use for the testing will be this one; this backcover and this touchstone.
(Please note that I'm not affiliated with any of those products nor sellers. I'm just a guy that's trying to help his fellow S3-owners out before they buy the kit/mod. Those products also were the cheapest ones I could find on eBay as of 27th november.)
I will divide this into 2 sections; the QI wireless charging and the Touchstone wireless charging (mod).
I've ordered a couple of cases to test out and I will report back later. Also, I'll probably give these cases away afterwards anyways.
In the meantime it would be great if people could add cases that are compatible and if they use the QI or the Touchstone wireless charger.
QI wireless charging compatible cases:
-Otterbox Defender
-Otterbox Commuter
-Otterbox Prefix
-Spigen SGP Neo Hybrid
-(some) TPU/Plastic cases
Touchstone wireless charging compatible cases:
.
I've added a section like that on the stickied qi thread as well [last night]. (in my post that is).
Specifically for the Qi ones. Afaik, members who have the otterbox commuter & defender are able to charge w/ the Qi charger.
I have a hybrid tpu/plastic case that also works with the qi kit.

Alright, thanks for your input. Do you want me to delete the QI piece? So there are no double posts and whatnot.
I don't really care. I think it's fine to have a place to double check.
i just manage to put the Touchstone wireless charger from palm into the galaxy s3 battery cover, ordering some case on amazon, will report back.
Since this thread is about Qi & Wireless charging tech.
Why not link to where we can get a battery back with the capability to wireless charge our phones? just a thought.
I've brain stormed ideas including ways to add a wireless charging station to a car/truck but I have yet to get a wireless/Qi battery door to make it even possible to start doing such experiments.
I had heard Samsung announced a wireless charging kit for the S3 but apparently never released it. (hopefully they show it off this week at CES for release alongside the new Extended battery coming this month)
check my 2nd post in the sticked thread for different options. That was all I was able to gather before it got close due to some members who blatantly abused the thread for their personal gains.

Are the Qi backs compatible with the Nokia wireless pads? I read some threads on here that some users are using them but wasn't sure if that was entirely true and if it worked or not.
they work. It's a qi reciever so any transmitter will work. (i have the yijieneng one and tested it out on the nokia pad and the speaker/charger pad combo at the AT&T store and it charges just fine.

Alright, will add this in the OP.
FYI, I bought this backcover and 2 of these touchstones (note: doesn't come with a cable or anything; just the touchstone).
Also, haven't had a chance to try the combo out -yet. See previous reply.
Yeah, they announced it but haven't released anything yet. Frankly, I don't even know if they'll ever release it. Maybe it was just for the hype of it.
After all, they were 'one of the first' that would incorporate this in a device so widely sold.
I have the Zens white backcover with the Zens charging pad. It works but the cover is too thick for use with my case (which i want to keep) + it's white (Black S3).
I was wondering if anyone has experience with dismantling the tech in the zens cover and 'mounting' it in the standard samsung cover. Any feedback is welcome before i rip it apart
I got this touchstone back;
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=170950767865
The magnet is terrible, it can barely stay on the touchstone without a case on it, and let alone with a case.
I have a touchstone on my dash in my car and even when driving slow in a straight line with no case on, the phone won't stay on the touchstone.
This Sucks because I bought sygic gps and was hoping this could replace my windshield mounted deactivated HTC touch pro 2 with igo8 finally.
Has anyone got one with an acceptable strength magnet?

Hey guys, don't know if people have done this already, but I just got a T-mobile S4 for testing this weekend and I wanted to find out if the wireless charging port was enabled since I've done the touchstone wireless charging mod on my S3 and note 2.
It was especially a PIA on the note 2 since T-mobile, in all of its corporate and engineering wisdom, decided to disable the feature for the Note 2, even though it was enabled for the S3. So for those of you who don't like to dissemble your new phone and solder on a tiny PCB, you'll be happy to know that I confirmed that wireless charging ports on the S4 is indeed enabled.
I took a pack of 4x AAA battery assembly, which provides ~4.7v of DC power, and connected to the charging port in the back. The small pair on the left is the charging port, the pair on the right is supposedly NFC, even though the NFC antenna is located on the battery for S4.
As you can see from the pics, the "the phone is now charging wirelessly" notification pops up when the circuit is live, which is pretty annoying IMO and can't be disabled (that's why we have custom roms right?)
I haven't gotten a chance to install the actual touchstone wireless charging receivers on the back yet, as this is a test unit that I have to return, but I don't imagine this to be too different than on the S3. There will be a slight bulge, but it'll be worth it.

Just follow the instructions from this thread (it's for an S3). The design for S3 is pretty similar, so it should work. Remember the positive pin is on the left, negative (ground) is on the right.
Also note that the touchstone mechanism is not Qi compatible, so it wont work with the newer charging mats for Nokia or HTC.
And always remember to perform these mods at your own risk.

Did you install any receiver on the S4?
I didn't mean to confuse anyone, I only confirmed that it is POSSIBLE to perform the mod. I used a 4.7v DC power supply to test if the wireless charging pins on the back are live, which wasn't the case for T-mobile note 2 so I had to check to make sure.
If you already have a Qi charger, you can get one of these receivers and connect it to your phone, then you'll be able to charger with your mat
http://www.ebay.com/itm/qi-Wireless...l_Phone_PDA_Chargers&var=&hash=item51abef6de9
But I would argue that the touchstone method is superior to qi if you plan on using it in a car, as the magnets keep the phone in place is it's really convenient to connect/disconnect when you're driving.

Samsung will be officially supporting wireless charging for the S4 through accessories. The ad for the pad and back wireless charging cover is already listed on the promo S4 accessories page. http://www.samsung.com/global/microsite/galaxys4/

Of course there will be 3rd party wireless charging solutions as well.

It seriously only took 5~10 minutes once I'd figured out which way to put what.
I have the photos set up and just need to put notes on them explaining what I did.
Will post them when I get home tonight (12am CT)
Ummmm, from everything I read the pins you have it hooked up to are NOT the ones for inductive charging, the gold ones on the right are......
I could be mistaken however. I remember the s3 used those pins, but I've read in a couple places that the ones made specifically for inductive charging are the ones on the right above the battery.

the smaller set is wireless charging, the larger set is presumably for additional NFC antenna (although I measured no resistance in the circuit with my voltmeter), as the back cover seemed to have a carved out area for a NFC like the Note 2 did.
Although the S4 battery says "NFC" on it, which seems like samsung made a last minute decision to put NFC on the battery instead of the back cover... oh samsung ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I picked my case at the Verizon store. In the Phoenix area, at least, the Verizon variant is just the "folio-case". It has the quick-circle functionality, but does not have the wireless charging portion. Additionally, it attaches over the entire back of the phone. The AT&T case actually replaces the back cover of the phone, and is wireless charging ready.
Don't get teh AT&T version. It will NOT have wireless charging. We use Qi standard while the AT&T version uses PMA.
What I was afraid of
Could I get the ATT case and a powermat charger? Or does the tmobile variant not even allow powermat under those circumstances?
The pins don't trigger as there is too much wattage. PMA uses higher wattage than Qi as that's the main reason why it's not changeable. Currently unknown is if LG made this hardware or software. I honestly wouldn't bother and wait to get one from Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile.
The ones from Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile will use Qi. Just make sure you get the right one as there is a knock off without wireless charging coil in them.

It's the same price as the AT&T version, and the other one seems to be a generic. From the rep tried to explain the other one it does not backplate on the non wireless charging one.
You can always get your own Qi parts and put them on your original back plate may come out cheaper.
Just add the wireless charging sticker on to the quick circle case. Pretty simple fix. On another note: is it true that T-Mobile is giving out the OEM quick circle cases with purchase of a G3 now??
Without wireless charging and also it's a snap on. You don't remove the backplate.

You can buy the original here:

Its a gorgeous case, QI and NFC work but the shipping is pretty slow.

That appears to be for the Korean version, with the cutout for the antenna. Can't remember the model number, maybe F400, but if it is indeed for the Korean version it wouldn't work with the US variants sans AT&T. Reason is that the pins are spaced differently on the Korean model compared to the US models.

Yes. But it's just the snap on case, not the wireless charging one.
