Displaymate iphone5 vs GS3 Shootout - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

By now, I'm sure many of you have come across this article http://www.displaymate.com/Smartphone_ShootOut_2.htm
I was wondering if there were any color profile adjustments or calibration that can be done for the Galaxy S3

Who cares. The iPhone 5's screen is small and insignificant.

have you spent any time looking at the iphone 5 screen? Color reproduction on the iphone5 is way better than the GS3. Where in the article does it compare both phones on screen size alone?
So if you ask who cares? I do. Although I prefer my GS3's 4.8" screen SIZE to the iphone5's 4" display, I wish the color calibration wasnt so horrible.

do i need to make a sticky saying no iphone threads?

As the title states lets see what is important to us. You can only pick one thing, that's the point. I know we kinda like the whole package but that's too easy.

Maybe we could put that under ICS Flagship, can't seem to edit the poll.
There's a bunch. Love the shape. Love the screen, faults and all. But for me, it's a Nexus and the flagship for the OS that puts Android--in my opinion--over the top.

The resolution by far.
Looking at any other phone looks silly in-comparison for the sheer lack-luster resolution alone.
being able to screen grab without needing to root the device. I guess that would be flagship ICS right?
Being able to make peoples jaw drop at seven eleven. Love NFC+google wallet.

I think my Blackberry Bold had a better camera.

Check out the Pics thread a couple slots down. People can take some amazing pictures with this camera if you know what you are doing.
It was a touch choice, but I picked ICS Flagship. I chose the Nexus because I liked that while my phone will fall behind hardware wise in a few months, the software will always stay current. After the T-Mobile/Vibrant fiasco, this was really important.
The screen is a very close second. I love AMOLED and the size of the screen. Also like the warm color tone. Reading with the Kindle app and in night mode is really easy on the eyes.

It isn't a 'plus' display. It's an HD Super AMOLED. 'Plus' displays have an RGB matrix, while our phone has a PenTile matrix.
That being said, the screen is probably my favorite feature. The sheer resolution is amazing.

Anyone feel like???

Anyone feel like that the Galaxy 3 should have came out with a 5.0" screen instead of 4.8"? I feel like that a 4.8" screen is still too small to do things like access office documents or remotely connect to a PC from our GS3. Can anyone else think about what the GS3 should have came with in terms of specs?

I'm content with 4.8"
You might want to look into the Galaxy Note if u need something bigger
Sent From My Sprint Galaxy S3
5.0" is definitely too big. Even 4.8" is too big for my thumb to easily reach the top left of the screen. I'd recommend getting a Galaxy Note if you want something bigger.
The only problem is that there is no galaxy note for sprint.

I really wanted the note but did not like the UI. The Note is not just a bigger phone, it is a whole different beast.
I would have liked a bigger screen then 4.8.

no.
I started with the HTC hero and thought the size was good, then I got the Epic which had a 4" screen. Now I thought 4" was big and told myself I don't need any bigger, then epic touch comes out with 4.5" screen, and I grew really fond of it. Now this device comes out with 4.8" and I think this is definitely the largest I'm going.
The note is freaking huge and yes, I've played with it. The screen is nice, but when you're using the phone up to your head, when it's really big, it starts looking, well, stupid.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Definitely not; I already think 4.8" is a bit too large. The kind of tasks you want to do would be far better suited for the Nexus 7.
4.8 is actually pretty big
but it doesnt FEEL big lol.

Eh, all the AMOLED tablets pretty much suck since they're stuffed with Touchwiz (tablet version sucks) which slow them down incredibly.
And the difference between AMOLED and LCD is really miniscule, so unless you care about blacks being a little bit deeper, it doesn't matter.
If you don't believe me, go to a store and try the Nexus 7 - - Once you actually see the screen, you'll be able to make a clear decision.

Why does the SGS3s screen look better than the GNexs when its the same Super SAMOLED?

It's as if the colors and the screen pops more up while ours looks great but not as popped up and more in depth and concave sort of way. As if there is a grainy screen that's all like gauss covering the screen. Why did they opt for a cheaper crappier screen on the GNex?

Yes, the SGS3's screen is also pentile, note the lack of plus at the end of Super AMOLED HD.
Different colour profile, different Q/A requirements (Have you noticed that there is very little black in touchwizz UX, maybe to avoid the low brightness blacks become purple issue).
Tweaks made to the panels and manufacturing process after doing them in blunk for the gnexus?
All of the above?
Your guess is as good as mine

You do realize this link is irrelevant to the topic at hand, right?
Anyway, I have had my phone next to my friends S3 and with the color tweaks on the GNEX I did not notice any difference. Stock GNEX screen, sure it looks horrible. My GNEX looks 10x better then any stock GNEX screen as well.
I would say quality control. Samsung took the time to perfect the S3's colors. I love my screen and it's vibrant and all that. Granted I've never compared the two.

Agreed.
Believe it or not there is a point where too much saturation is bad. It starts to look entirely unnatural. I'm happy where the saturation levels are at with my Nexus currently, still more vibrant than any LCD screen, but not to the point where everything looks like someone took the saturation dial and cranked it to max.

The we don't have this or that threads are people just being nitpicky #FirstWorldPains?
It's an amazing device.... the screen is beautiful 5.55" of a NONPENTILE Super AMOLED, stellar battery life. The quad core exynos CPU and jelly bean makes the user experience super fluid. People are also saying that the phone is too big but personally that's why I like it so much - it makes my old iPhone4S look like a toy.
After 8 hours of ownership, screen size is my fav feature so far.

Pixel density is lower but gs3 is pentile I believe. This has some hybrid pixel arrangement. Though, I never saw a gs3.

Honestly I think I'm still in partial shock that I'm walking around with a Quad Core in my pocket. There's something ridiculous about that... also the display and once Sprint LTE kicks in in SF, I'm going to be lording it over my colleagues.

Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
Best feature this phone has is Android. Hands Down.
Slap a giant screen on an iPhone and it still is tied to iOS. Can't fix that one.
But on the serious side, the best feature to me, is the marriage of a Large screen and the extra sensitive S Pen. The large screen is great, but anyone can do a large screen. And an S Pen is great too, but it would be crap on a screen any smaller than 5" or so. Can you even imagine trying to use an S Pen on a screen the size of iPhone?
Everything else that Sammy did to make the S Pen and Screen marriage work well is important too, as without all the other pieces, this phone would leave something to complain about.
-Waitin on multiscreen, CP
Awesome screen, awesome battery, so much horsepower and gps that really works (coming from ET4G that never locked)...
This is the best phone I've owned.

White vs gray my experience. Read!

Today I returned my gray note 2 for a white note 2. All I can say is the quality is much better. It doesn't creak at all and it's very solid and much tighter. Feels like a completely different model phone. I've read the same thing other places too. So if you're about to get the note 2 I advise you to get the marble white. Even my benchmarks are much higher with this one. Both at&t.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
I'm not a fan of white phones. I love the brushed aluminum look the titanium gray has. And mine doesn't make any noises and is plenty solid.
I have the titanium grey and its solid. No creaking, nothing that would even suggest inferior build quality. Plus gets a quadrant benchmark of over 6000 stock, i don't see how the white would do better considering the hardware is exactly the same.

I concur!!
I saw no difference in build quality between the two colors when I compared them. I went with titanium because frankly the white looks cheaper to me. With this being such a large device I didn't want it be be more of a bright beacon either.
As for the performance of your white being better? Post your benchmarks to prove it, because I think that claim has no merit.

Is this a joke or is the op serious?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
The white one is bland, ugly, and most of all... looks cheap as hell. I've seen these same sentiments stated many-a-time on different reviews of the Note II. I owned the ceramic white original Note, and I thought it was gorgeous. Much better looking than the black. But for the Note II, the positions are reversed. The white is just dull but the titanium gray is pure sex. It has this sophisticated, premium look to it.
BTW, this is probably one of the most asinine threads I've ever read on XDA. For anyone to seriously suggest the quality of a phone is based on what COLOR it is, is as misguided and stupid as a person who thinks that each different color M&M has a different taste, despite the fact they ALL have the same taste. Did a 12-year-old iPhone tween write this claptrap??
My titanium does not creak and i preffer the look of the dark titanium bezel than a regular chrome. I think chrome is out of style and look cheap on a phone.
