HTC Desire z G2 WiFi produces Error when turned on -SOLVED - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK, I have been battling this problem for weeks now; Turning 'On' WiFi almost instantaniously produces "Error" below the button and it does not work.
First of all this device is an Oversea version that I purchased. Sold as "htc Desire Z a7272 1.5gb UNLOCKED"
Second, internally it represented itself as "T-Mobile G2"
I read all the people that had the same issue, no more WiFi. One user thought the this may have first occured when the phone updated to 2.2 over the air in the U.S.; and yes this device said 2.2 as the current OS. I tried very thing that was suggested #*#* stuff, RUU's of all kinds, even called HTC, which by the way were extremely helpful, but no solutions.
The HTC Update for the G2 by all accounts, including HTC, should be the one not WWE version of China TW.
G2RUU2012.exe is available direct from HTC for 2.3.4. I think in the update it show the phone was 1.19 then it show 1.22 (each ruu seemed to see it different)and was going to load 2.?? or something
Running RUU produced Error 156 Image error or Error 130 Model ID Error
Tried adb.exe and putting the renamed rom.zip PC10IMG.zip on the SDcard and HBOOT. Starts to load but also produces "ModelID incorrect"
Strangely enough my helpful HTC Tech pointed me back to this forum and suggested trying to root the phone and get an update loaded. He also suggested sticking with the G2 update for the s/n of the phone came back as a G2 not a Desire Z even though he said the IMEI was not attached to that s/n. Dang Chinese. Anyway I kept reading. Yes, reading the log file shows the WiFi drive failing to load so could be hardware or the 2.2 update had something wrong? My Bluetooth worked by the way. Ran into one post that suggested that he might not have had a SD card in the phone when the update hit and THAT caused an error in the update, I keep coming back to the strangeness of the phone, some cluge, 1.5GB, not 4GB of the US G2.
ANYWAY, after reading NOT to perminently root the G2 and hearing the HTC guy say the same, try and stick to the G2 flash for now not knowing what the board was exactly, I found the Visionary+ Temproot Method which sounded a good way to try and get to the current 2.3 from HTC. THe write up assumed you could get to Google Apps (I have no data plan) so how do I get apps to the phone. More searching.
Found and Installed CNET's Android Injector, SWEET, to push apps onto the phone. Works great
Found a Internet Download of ASTRO File Manager apk
Found the Internet Download for com.modaco.visionaryplus.r14.apk
Already had the G2RUU2012.exe from HTC (you need to run to the first screen, stop, go o your Windows TEMP directory, open the last folder made there adn the subfolder and find the rom.zip, copy and rename PC10IMG.zip)
Connected the phone through USB and turn on USB Storage
Copied com.modaco.visionaryplus.r14.apk to the SD card.
Copied the G2RUU2012 PC10IMG.zip to the SDcard (TMobile Android 2.3.4)
Now Turned off USB Storage.
Goto "Applications"
Check "Unknown Sources"
then select "Developement"
Check "USB Debugging"
Now you are good to go.
With Android Injector installed, double click on the ASTRO apk, opens Injector and go ahead and install it.
Go to the phone, start ASTRO, open the External SD Card, and run the Visionary apk
In Visionary check the Temproot on reboot, then press the Temproot Now
When it finished, I powered down the phone and restarted in HBOOT (hold Volume Down button and then press the Power button)
When HBoot screen came up, the G2 Flash ACTAULLY COMPLETED! All is working again and I am on the lasted Android version for the phone.

Oh, Forgot
:laughH, I forgot, I was doing this on a GOLDCARD created from my SD Card using SImple Goldcard. From what I had read it was required, and this program created a correct goldcard easily.

good day bro. i need your help my bluetooth and wifi are not working too on my htc desire z. can u assist by mailing [email protected]. we need to talk. i will be expecting your mail

HTC desire 2.2 HELP please

Ok so, this is my first android phone and after being prompted to install the 2.2 update on my European htc desire, i downloaded and started it installing. It gets to about 23% and says process system unavailible and after reading what people said i cleared the phone and tried to install the update manually from the SD card. This didn't work
My phone currently does this
Will boot into what it says is 2.2 but with no wifi, no service, and no SD card showing up
then after about 5 minutes it will reboot.
I have no idea what i can do to fix this? could someone please help me, i'm a noob with android so a clear step by step would be much appreciated
anyone
I am having the same issue... Anyone some help please...

how did you create a blank goldcard, i can't access my SD card on my phone while it's in the phone so how did you do it
Do you have a WIFI connection? I do, and did the OTA 2.2 upgrade over WiFi with no problems, on my Unbranded European HTC Desire.
If youre phone won't boot properly, there are a few answers; 1) Return in to HTC, they're getit working and back to you, 2) Return it to th place of purchase, 3) Root/reflash (but sounds like it might not be an option).

When I got in touch with HTC they wanted £50 to do a reflash, falsely accusing me of rooting my device..
was that 50$ to send it to them? or can they do it without having it there. Because if THEIR update screwed up my phone i don't see why i should have to pay for a fix
maybe a silly question but did you try a factory reset?

Tell me about it, so thankful I managed to fix it myself!
It sounds like you are alll applying an OTA update for the standard ROM to what was a branded device. There are lots of explanations as to how to fix this if this is the case
In summary
Download update from mentioned here
Copy this to root of your goldcard and rename to update.zip
Turn off phone
Turn on holding down vol down
Select Bootloader then Recovery (an image of device should appear with exclamation mark over)
In menu (sorry forgot how you get in, if it does not appear then try power+vol down or power + back). From there choose apply update.zip
Wait while update applied
After update select reboot and wait for device to boot
Video of it here

I've just tried this again, installation looked like it went through ok, rebooted and relaoded into sense, then it shows me a status bar counting, normally this gets to about 10% then says ?Sorry process system is not responing, so i can either click wait or force close, then in continues upto about 97% then reboots and reloads only to load a white screen showing htc and continues counting in percentages, gets to about 15% then says force close, then onto about 91% then reboots this goes on for a while until it just shows me a sorta bricked phone with no wifi, gsm or any real functionailty and it continues to reboot every 5 mins, back to where I started showing 2.2 as installed
One strange thing I have noticed is that my CID is
CID: 00000000000000000049E917D100A69E
Reversing CID
CID: 00A600D117E949000000000000000000
Can't find update.zip on SD card during recovery
Tried all this, thanks. Goldcard created using Gold Card Tool 0.0.5 (awesome job Klutsh) . I get the error message:
"E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory)" even though it is in the root dir when I look at the card on my PC.
Should it be in a directory called /sdcard ?

I had to format the card in a card reader in my PC, then use the Gold Card Creator mentioned elsewhere in the thread. You have to install HTC Sync because enough drivers are in there to at least allow the apps to 'see' the card at physical level, even if the bricked Android doesn't. Set the phone to USB debug mode in Settings/Applications - the phone stays 'on' long enough between reboots to do that and get a CID out of it! Then Gold Card Creator works well enough to get the CID from the SD.
I'm trying this again with a 2GB card to see if makes any difference.

Quick update to this. Make sure you have extensions of known file types SHOWING in your folder settings. I was naming the file update.zip.zip!!

help...motoblur will not log in/create new acc???

hi, this is my first post....
i have spent the last few days searching this site with no luck, so here goes...
i have a motorola defy android 2.1(stock rom)
it was running great (rooted and overclocked at 1200) until i downloaded a freezing program (freezes orig phone apps, telstra ect)
anyhow i turned off my phone and then when i turned it back on i had no home screen??? (so couldnt access my apps, settings, msgs, calls, nothing)
i could slide the unlock across but after that it was just black with the status bar at the top....
i have done a hard reset (hold volume down and turn on, then wipe data/factory reset)
now my stupid motoblur acc will not let me log in, or create a new account (i have been successful loging into the motoblur website, just not on my phone), it loads almost to the end of the progress bar, then just sits there and does nothing at all, i even left it over night!!!
i have installed these files, in the hope of flashing a new rom (2.3 or 2.3 would be sweet)
Motodrivers131
RSD Lite 4.9
i installed rsd first, and could see my phone (in download mode) but every time i tried to flash a .sbf file i got the message "Failed flashing process. Unable to retrieve initialization values from INI file. (0x7029); phone connected" so i installed Motodrivers131, and now my phone wont even show up in rsd???
im in melbourne, victoria, australia 3133...
im going insane here, any help would be very appreciated...

Uninstall everything, reboot the pc, install Motorola Drivers, install rsd, remove the battery, press and hold VOL UP and put the battery again. Open RSD and try to see your phone now. If it fails, try to press the power button (continue holding VOL UP).
If everything fails, maybe you are out of battery, and the only thing to do is mcgyver trick (see wiki).
ok, i have managed to get into google while in the motoblur sign in thingy, and rooted my phone and used clockwork to flash an update from my sd card
2 problems tho, first one is that im in australia and ive flashed t-mobile 2.2 (usa)
and the second is that everytime i put an sd card into the phone it begins to mount the sd card, then instantly says "sd card is safe to remove" i have tried formatting it on the phone but it says to remove it before i get a chance..... (i have tried 2 diff cards) and have wiped them on my computer!
this is rather annoying as i cant flash it with blueginger like i wanted to, or use a fair few apps or the camera without the sd card present????
any thoughts?
Maybe the drivers are corrupted?
Are you using a T-Mo US Defy unit or an unbranded one?
nah my defy is a telstra branded one from australia......
there has to be a way around this problem...

[Q] HTC Desire Z doesn't boot anymore after failed android update

Hello people,
Background info what I did before problem arose:
I wanted to root my Desire Z, so I figured out what to do:
- downgrade android 2.3.3 to 2.2 using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912 ; option 4a didn't work, bootloader didn't see PC10IMG.zip while it was on the SD card in root folder. Option 4b did work luckily.
- root desire Z via http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...sion#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD and made it to superCID, simlock off and S-OFF
So now I got a working Desire Z with android 2.2
Wish I stopped there...
I decided to try out android 4.2.1:
- I installed rom using http://genius-tips.com/update-htc-desire-z-to-android-4-2-1-jelly-bean-cm10-1-custom-rom/
It worked. I now have an Desire Z with android 4.2.1. But it was somewhat slowish so I decided I wanted my gingerbread back:
- I tried to install roms but somehow it didn't work, I kept my 4.2.1
- I followed the same steps I did to downgrade to 2.2 as described above, and it worked.
So I got a working Desire Z with android 2.2
- using HTC software update (settings -> about telephone -> software update) I download and install update 1
- download and install update 2
From here it gets interesting for this topic:
- download and install update 3, which is android 2.3; and during the install, while I still have my usb cable connected from laptop to telephone, my laptop battery runs out and update on telephone somehow fails (WTF, it is in charge only mode when it is installing right? The battery was full, or full enough, the telephone downloaded the update itself to SD-card or internal memory, so I assumed there was no connection.)
But now the Desire Z doesn't boot any more, it stays on the htc logo, without the 'quietly brilliant'.
- I tried via bootloader reset to factory defaults: vibrate, htc logo, image of telephone with green arrows above and loader below with image of SD-card on the right of loader. But loader doesn't progress and after some time telephone resets and stays at htc logo.
- I tried recovery via bootloader: vibrate, htc logo, and image of telephone with red exclamation mark and red triangle.
- no connection via sdk/adt.
I also tried to boot CyanogenMod 7.1 from SD-card using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1572924 , but same result as above.
What can I do to save my Desire Z, other than replacing motherboard ?!
Please help...
The update failed being it was in the process of writing some firmware when you lost power, this tends to mean a partial update and a brick. The pc10img.zip you tried to flash before was not to be in any folder, so not a folder called root, rather no folder at all.
This may also be your salvation, maybe the only way of fixing, more info here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33917375
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Thanks, I will try it out this afternoon.
To clarify:
In order to downgrade to android 2.2 I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912 in which is stated
I - 4a) Manual Downgrade
...
Desire Z: "PC10IMG.zip"
...
Place the zip file in the root of your sdcard.
Click to collapse
What does this mean if I am not supposed to have this file on my SD-card ? [edit: Or did my previous post suggest I had a folder called 'root' on my SD-card in which I had the zip?]
Second thing to clarify:
When my telephone has battery AND it is connected to my laptop (charge only I assume) AND my telephone is updating firmware from the SD-card/internal memory of the telephone; why would the telephone lose power / fail installation at the moment my PC tries to shut itself off because of low battery. Or is there something wrong in my assumptions?
Yeah I misunderstood ya, I thought you had a folder named root, if you did don't,
I must have been reading too fast I also thought you were doing an ruu through the computer not an ota update which is what you were doing, if that's the case the power loss on computer shouldn't have mattered unless there is some weird deal that I don't know about when charging through PC.
Can you confirm what is written on bootloader screen, radio, SPL, etc?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Sure, I posted it on the topic you recommended me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37613472 to continue there.
Conclusion:
Format SD card in FAT32 if it wasn't yet, then bootloader can read images again and flash ROMs. Then telephone is unbricked
Thanks.

[Q] Desire Help!!

Hi Guys,
A lot of this stuff is new to me. I have an old HTC Desire which I hadn’t turned on in a while. When I tried to boot it up, it only got as far as the O2 splash screen. I know the basics so tried volume down and power button and got to the fastboot screen,
Bravo PVT4 Ship S-on HBOOT-0.93 0001 MicroP-051d Touch Panel SYNT0101 Radio-5.09.050.30_2 August 10 2010
Tried recovery but again stalled on the splash screen. Been looking through the forum, some great info there and the HTC Desire troubleshooting guide is very good. But I just don’t know exactly whats wrong with the phone as sometimes I get a stall on screen with white HTC, sometimes on O2 splash screen and one time it stopped with three android men in the middle of the screen.
I got myself a SD Adapter for the micro sd in my phone and copied/backup this info on my laptop. I’ve tried clearing all on the Micro sd and running a RUU but always comes up with the error cannot connect to pc (windows 7). Don’t mind losing all on the sd card as I have pics/videos on the laptop, just want to have the phone work again. Would ideally like to start from scratch and put the minimum amount of information needed on my microsd to boot up the phone correctly. I think there may be a chance as I can get to the hboot screen. Appreciate any help I can get
Regards
Well done for finding the troubleshooting guide and having a read in the first place, a lot of people don't bother!
If you just want it booting, try running the the 2.3.3 RUU using the PB99IMG,zip method, which doesn't require a PC connection.
- Download the .zip URL="http://d-h.st/d44"]here[/URL],
- Put it directly on the root of the sd card (not in any folder)
- Boot to bootloader (Vol down + power)
- It should find the file, select power to run it.
Cheers Eddie for getting back so quickly.
Just tried what you said but getting "wrong image or no image" briefly flashing
up on the screen when i select bootloader. I put the zip file itself onto the root of the sd card. Should i delete everything else
on the sd card?
Another thing i've noticed is that i get seven random vibrates every now and again when it HBOOT mode.
Thanks again Eddie
That's weird, should find the file.
Sorry have to double check:
- You didn't rename the file? You shouldn't have to modify the zip at all, should be named PB99IMG.zip and not PB99IMG.zip.zip
- It's definitely on the root of the sd card (not in a folder)
You shouldn't need to format it as it scans the whole card for the file, but no harm in trying if it's backed up. Reformat the sd card completely, to a single FAT32 partition. Put only the zip on there, try again.
If that still doesn't work, try it with another sd card.
Getting there!!
Ok i got my HTC to recognise the zip file. Problem was PB99IMG file was called zip.zip. Easy to miss
because on the root of the sd card it only has .zip but when i tried to copy it in again it asked me do
i want to replace PB99IMG.zip.zip with PB99IMG.zip.zip...
So Vol down and power button and HTC starts the process
Do you want to start update .....vol up
Updated Bootloader ok but
unfortunately for me it stalled while updating RADIO V2.... waited good 5 mins but did not progress
Disappointed as i thought i was nearly there. Has anybody any experience of this!
Eddie only seen your post after i put this one up. You were right with the naming of the file .zip.zip
Eddie only seeing your post now. you were right about the .zip bit, cheers.
Tried again and this time success, got all updated except Radio which gave a "fail PU"
Down the bottom in black it said "partition update fail"
Then i pressed vol up to reboot Htc turned off... and didn't reboot
Going to leave it at that for now and head to bed. Thanks for your help today
If you have any ideas i'll give it a go tomorrow:fingers-crossed:
Well progress is good the .zip.zip error is surprisingly common.
Does it say "RADIO V2 Fail" or similar?
This unfortunately is not a good sign, suggests a radio brick, or an overheating motherboad I believe. You're not the only one to see this error.
Try putting the desire in a bag in the freezer for a few minutes (not joking), the re-running the RUU same method.
This may get it to boot, but I fear that it won't be long before the same thing happens again and it gets stuck on the splash screen, no guarantees at this point with that error.

Yeah "radio v2 fail" tried to run again but now won't turn on at all. Tried freezer...nothing and hasn't turned on since. I suspect your right with
motherboard over heating and i'm resigned to it being a lost cause.
Thanks for the help anyway Eddie

HTC Desire 820 White/Blue Doesn't Start

Hello,
I have a HTC Desire 820 White/Blue mobile phone and about a week ago, suddenly it stopped working. When I try to open it, fastboot screen pops up and I couldn't find a way to surpass it:
I asked around some FB groups and they told me that it lacked stock rom and I needed to load a stock rom into it. When I searched about this in the net, I found this rom:
androidfilehost. com /?fid=24438995911974313
I downloaded this one, loaded it to my SD card, inserted it into my phone, and when I tried to turn my phone on again, the same menu appeared. I had tried to load a rom(which didn't work because it was incompatible with my phone's version) before, and that time, when I selected "HBOOT", it found the rom in the SD card and tried to load it(but couldn't, because as I said, it was incompatible; then I found this compatible rom). But this time my phone didn't see the rom in the SD card, accordingly didn't try to load it.
What did I do wrong? What should I do?
Thank you by now.
Sorry for my bad English btw.
