I'm the newbiest of them all, I think I bricked my brand new Excalibur!!!
Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place, but I need heeeelp!
O.K., here it is:
I just downloaded kavana's 080314 WM6.1 installer for the HTC Excalibur, I ran the exe and followed instructions, afterwards, the ROM app opened and started upgrading the phone but it got stuck at 1%, it made be go thru the recovery process several times (unplug, turn off, disconnect battery, turn on) but it always started on tricolor mode and always got stuck on 1%, after a third recovery process the ROM app just quit and left me hanging on tricolor mode!!!
Activesync won't connect now, I try to run kavana's exe again but it doesn't recognize the phone either, the phone is on, conected (windows makes the usb sound for connection) but it is not recongized, it's as if it's not plugged.
It is stuck on tricolor mode and I don't know what to do!
Please help me!!!
Try the dicussion thread "Bricked my T Mobile phone" there are plenty of answers there.
Will this work?
I saw this on said thread, but I presume it applies for a Herald phone, will it work?
The tricolor mode is "bootloader mode"?
Isn't there some sort of restart that can fix it?
Can someone elaborate on this? I'm really a super-noob!!!
"Try a SD card flash to unbrick your device
This is how:
MAKE SURE THE HERALD IS FULLY CHARGED BEFORE STARTING THE PROCES
#01 Download your original RUU
#02 Download (if not yet installed) WinRar and install
#03 Copy your full sd micro card to your harddisk and format your card with FAT 32
#04 Rightclick the downloaded exe file with your original RUU, click Unpack here
#05 In the map the will be created you will find a file (or similar) called RUU_signed.nbh. Copy this file to your formated sd microcard.
#06 Rename the file to Heraimg.nbh
#07 Get your Herald into bootloader modus by pressing the comm manager button and the camera button and pressing the reset button at the same time. Do not release both buttons until your in bootloader.
#08 Once in bootloader pop in your sd micro card.
#09 As soon as your card is popped in the screen will say something like "Reading SD card". Wait it out till it says "Push button to start" and slide the indicated volume slider down.
#10 The Herald will start the flashing proces. Wait it out till it says "Press any button" and hit the send button.
#11 Perform a hard reset
#12 Voila! Your back in business"

I believe you didn't application unlock it first. I had same issues. I finally got it to load. I don't think you bricked it. Remove battery wait a few seconds and restart phone

Already did that... still on "brick" mode...
Question: is my warranty still valid? I bought it 3 days ago.
you can solve simply to launch original upgrade to wm6 rom

Do try these procedures first. I'm just throwing it out there but if you try again it is probably a better choice to flash to WM6 first. Then try flashing to the 6.1.
I'm sure you can return it but come up with a believable excuse.
Yes, You Are Correct!

Yes, that is the correct path for him to take, install a 6.0 ROM first, before installing a 6.1 ROM. I suggest he install the T-Mo official wm6, just to get things started in the right direction again.
(1) If the device is still in the tri color mode (bootloader mode), that's a very good sign, it's not bricked. Connect the device to your PC via active sync in the tri color mode, you may think that the device is not connected to Your PC but it is, it may not look like it's connected, run the official T-Mo wm6 ROM RUU WWE, it will install on your device as long as your device is in the tri color mode.
(2)Once you get the wm6 ROM installed on your device, you must first SDA_ApplicationUnlock your device, next you want to Certificate AppUnlock and SurrealApplication Unlock your phone. Now, the reason you are doing all these unlocks are because you coming off the T-Mo wm6 ROM.
(3)After all this have been done, it now ok to try to install the 6.1 ROM on your device.......!
Great support!!! But now comes the obvious question from the n00b of the n00bs!!!
Got it, now the big question is: how to flash to WM6?
Is it done by the steps I posted early? (formatting SD, etc.)
Also, where do I get the T-mobile RUU?
Finally, there are a few things you should know, my phone was bought in Mexico, under the cellphone company Movistar (Spain's Telefonica and I've heard U.S. AT&T), it had WM5 before I "bricked" it (hehehe).
When I turn it now, a few miliseconds before the tricolor screen I can read in the phone a "waiting for SD card" message when the tricolor screen comes on, I get this version of RUU 1.15.000.
I appreciate all your help, as a contribution to this amazing community, when I get thru this, I hereby commit myself to write a fully understandable guide for noobs with the same problem (not too long).

Is your mobile device still in the tri color mode, if so just connect it back to your PC via active sync, It will accept the download! OK you can get the T-Mo wm6 at T-Mo's website, if not I will send you a link with the T-Mo wm6 RUU. Don't panic, you are still in the game.......!
Update!! Phone unbricked but still on WM5!
Ok... I used this ROM: HTC_S620_WWE_1.27.405.1_4.1.13.44_02.94.90_Ship.exe
It went thru the upgrading process but got stuck at 3%, anyway, it finished with a message like "this ROM cannot be used for your phone" or something and restored WM5.
Now I will follow instructions on the thread: "The Full Guide To Upgrading From Windows Mobile 5 to 6" and I'll be posting my acomplishments on this thread.
Question: The reasons for me not being still able to upgrade may be:
1. I haven't unlocked phone,
2. My phone is for Mexico and cellphone co. "Movistar", or
3. I'm running Windows XP as a virtual machine (via parallels) on an intel Macintosh and somehow there's a problem with the USB drivers.
I'm rooting for option 1 (but kavana's upgrade was supposed to already unlocked it). Option 3 maybe but then, why do I get Activesync to run? Option 2 would be a bummer!
T-Mobile WM6 RUU WWE ROM
Get the T-Mobile official Wm6 RUU WWE Rom here http://www.mediafire.com/?0vtw32zmuz3 ......!Oh! I throught you had a Excalibur.....!
Just can't seem to upgrade WM5 to WM6!
Iv'e tried the T-Mobile ROM and the HTC ROM and I get an: "invalid vendor id"
I tried every step on the aforementioned thread, even de CIS unlock, and still no luck... again, my vendor is movistar/telefonica/cingular.
Any thoughts?
Your Answer Is In jockyw2001 Thread

A easy frix, but read the instructions very carefully, jockyw2001 thread is located in the sticky section. What you are looking for will be in post #1.........!
New Instructions
Run the Excalibur Uspl-CID ByPass.zip, extraxt on your PC and open it there, you will see several file folders. Open the one that say (uspl) MS-Dos batch File, follow on screen instructions by pressing any key. This time when you see the white screen on your device do not panic! Run the HTC WM 6 ROM, this is done while the screen is still white on your device. Just follow the on screen instructions on your PC.............!
Now I definitively bricked it!
I ran the CID unbloker, screen went blank, ran the ROM, it got to 16% and made me do a recovery, after the recovery it gave me the same "invalid vendor id" message and it automatically restarted the phone, but...
The restart stopped at the HTC intro screen!! I've restarted it several times and it just stops on the first HTC logo screen... even a hard reset won't fix it!!!
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!
Here is a visual aid.
You are not reading into detail. Use the Tmobile rom instead of the HTC Rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=368998&highlight=Jamerican
Still Bricked!!!
Yeah!!! superb visual aid!!!
I just wish I had seen it before I bricked it!!!!
This is the current state of my phone: I press power, I see a white screen with the HTC logo in the middle, the phone vibrates, still the same HTC logo... and it is stuck that way! I can't turn it off, I have to take out the battery!!
I've tried a hard reset, same thing happens! It stays stuck on the HTC logo screen and I'm forced to pull the battery out for the phone to shut down.
It is obviously not recognized in any way when I plug it to the PC's USB.
What made this happen? HTC Generic ROM got stuck on 16% before telling me "invalid vendor id", restarted the phone and voila: brick!!
Boy, I wish I was back in the tricolor mode!!!
IS THERE NOTHING I CAN DO?
I'm seriously thinking about going back to the vendor on monday and saying: It was like this when I woke up (I just bought it three days ago!!!)
If it gets that far, it doesnt seem totally bricked, ima PC man, so this may be off, but it seems like some kinda bootloader error on the phone itself....IE, the HTC screen is all that the bootloader tells the phone to load. Have you tried forcing the phone into bootloader mode?
I Looooooove Google!!!
OK... I found a turnaround for the problem... got it to go to bootloader mode!!!
Whenever something like these happens to you this is the hard way to put your excalibur/dash in bootloader mode:
1. Take out battery and sd card;
2. Plug your USB cable to your PC (not yet to the phone)
3. Press and keep holding the SIMB. key (the one with the camera next to the space bar)
4. Plug your USB cable to your phone (while still pressing the SIMB. key)
5. Voila: You are in bootloader mode!!
This was gotten for a 15 min. search in google!!
Now... I'll keep going with my WM5 to WM6 upgrade...
Ok so, this is my first android phone and after being prompted to install the 2.2 update on my European htc desire, i downloaded and started it installing. It gets to about 23% and says process system unavailible and after reading what people said i cleared the phone and tried to install the update manually from the SD card. This didn't work
My phone currently does this
Will boot into what it says is 2.2 but with no wifi, no service, and no SD card showing up
then after about 5 minutes it will reboot.
I have no idea what i can do to fix this? could someone please help me, i'm a noob with android so a clear step by step would be much appreciated
anyone
I am having the same issue... Anyone some help please...

how did you create a blank goldcard, i can't access my SD card on my phone while it's in the phone so how did you do it
Do you have a WIFI connection? I do, and did the OTA 2.2 upgrade over WiFi with no problems, on my Unbranded European HTC Desire.
If youre phone won't boot properly, there are a few answers; 1) Return in to HTC, they're getit working and back to you, 2) Return it to th place of purchase, 3) Root/reflash (but sounds like it might not be an option).

When I got in touch with HTC they wanted £50 to do a reflash, falsely accusing me of rooting my device..
was that 50$ to send it to them? or can they do it without having it there. Because if THEIR update screwed up my phone i don't see why i should have to pay for a fix
maybe a silly question but did you try a factory reset?

It sounds like you are alll applying an OTA update for the standard ROM to what was a branded device. There are lots of explanations as to how to fix this if this is the case
In summary
Download update from mentioned here
Copy this to root of your goldcard and rename to update.zip
Turn off phone
Turn on holding down vol down
Select Bootloader then Recovery (an image of device should appear with exclamation mark over)
In menu (sorry forgot how you get in, if it does not appear then try power+vol down or power + back). From there choose apply update.zip
Wait while update applied
After update select reboot and wait for device to boot
Video of it here

I've just tried this again, installation looked like it went through ok, rebooted and relaoded into sense, then it shows me a status bar counting, normally this gets to about 10% then says ?Sorry process system is not responing, so i can either click wait or force close, then in continues upto about 97% then reboots and reloads only to load a white screen showing htc and continues counting in percentages, gets to about 15% then says force close, then onto about 91% then reboots this goes on for a while until it just shows me a sorta bricked phone with no wifi, gsm or any real functionailty and it continues to reboot every 5 mins, back to where I started showing 2.2 as installed
One strange thing I have noticed is that my CID is
CID: 00000000000000000049E917D100A69E
Reversing CID
CID: 00A600D117E949000000000000000000
Can't find update.zip on SD card during recovery
Tried all this, thanks. Goldcard created using Gold Card Tool 0.0.5 (awesome job Klutsh) . I get the error message:
"E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory)" even though it is in the root dir when I look at the card on my PC.
Should it be in a directory called /sdcard ?

I had to format the card in a card reader in my PC, then use the Gold Card Creator mentioned elsewhere in the thread. You have to install HTC Sync because enough drivers are in there to at least allow the apps to 'see' the card at physical level, even if the bricked Android doesn't. Set the phone to USB debug mode in Settings/Applications - the phone stays 'on' long enough between reboots to do that and get a CID out of it! Then Gold Card Creator works well enough to get the CID from the SD.
I'm trying this again with a 2GB card to see if makes any difference.
Check folder settings when using windows

Quick update to this. Make sure you have extensions of known file types SHOWING in your folder settings. I was naming the file update.zip.zip!!
Thanks to ALL in this forum for get apps and assistance. I unbricked my phone tonight thanks to you all
well i phoned the shop here in australia that i bought it from and they said they've had alot of desires being returned because they've been bricked by the update and to just send it back and they'll fix it and update to 2.2 for me
Hey guys,
I hope you're all well.
Great forum by the way.
I've searched extensively for solutions to my problem, yet I've been unable to find anything.
I think the problem started yesterday, when I restarted my phone and for some reason it went into safe mode.
I didn't lost any functionality so I didn't care too much until this morning, when I tried to get out of safe mode.
My phone has taken me to the bootloader (white screen with skateboarding Android) and for some reason, the power key (used to select options) and the volume keys (used to scroll) are not functioning.
As a result I cannot click or choose anything and the white bootloader screen persists in limbo.
I desperately need some suggestions, any help is very much appreciated.
Just so you know:
I've taken the battery out and put it back in, which takes me straight back to the bootloader screen, same with sim card.
The phone is running Coredroid (can't remember which version).
Has S-OFF.
Sorry I'm not much of an expert...
Also, on startup, phone says something along the lines of:
SD Checking...
LOADING... [PD98DIAG.zip]
NO IMAGE!
LOADING... [PD98DIAG.nbh]
NO IMAGE OR WRONG IMAGE!

Something has become corrupted.
Best bet would be to use an ruu 2.36.405.8 and lower, once loaded up, skip through the setup and then root again.
http://driphter.com/index.php?topic=3867.0
after you've done all that, install rom manager, and then restore your last backup.
Just a quick update.
Managed to get into Clockwork Mod Recovery.
Got the SD Card to mount.
Formatted it in windows.
Copied over Coredroid.
Went thru the install process.
Installed without error.
Booted up.
Took it's time, displayed the Coredroid animation but then vibrated and took me straight to Bootloader again.
Any advice or best to do this RUU thing?
Would this:
RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.405.3_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.15_M3_release_155032_signed
Be ok?
Am I in the right ballpark?
Truly got no clue when it comes to this stuff
use the 2.36.405.8 RUU, then you wont have to spend your time updating the radio and such, that version of gingerbread is rootable using gingerbreak (so just follow that path of my method and you're set)

Hello mate,
Just a quick question.
How do I get my computer to recognize my phone prior to running this RUU thing?
Considering I can't scroll or select anything in bootloader screen?
Can I run this RUU thing from ClockworkMod?
Kind regards,
- Ric
you run it from your pc. its an advaced installer that pushes the stock rom to the device and overwrites everything... it will put the phone into a different bootloader state than the one you can nav through.
Also, sometimes the phone is booting into bootloader, while other times it is booting into ClockworkMod.
It seems I have no control over which screen it initially boots to.
I DO HAVE options in ClockworkMod because my volume keys allow me to scoll and my power button allows selection, whereas in bootloader, the keys do not function.
Could you PLEASE provide some advice on how to boot into ClockworkMod rather than bootloader?
Kind regards,
- Ric

Yes I do realize I run the RUU from the PC.
I don't think I was very clear.
I was trying to ask you what state the phone needs to be in?
Do I have to mount the SD Card from ClockworkMod?
Or can I run the RUU while in Bootloader?
Does it matter?
Neither have worked.
I get a 170 error (USB Connection error).
The RUU cannot see my phone.
I was wondering if there's a way to fix this?
I have also now tried to install Leedroid and Gingervillian.
Both have installed perfectly but refuse to boot all the way.
Instead taking me back to Bootloader...
Ok, Leedroid somehow booted.
No network or anything though.
Very unstable...
if the phone is running leedroid now and you have the htc sync tools installed (but without sync running, just needs to be installed for the drivers)
leave it as it is connected to your pc, doesnt matter if debugging or anything else is on or off. just leave it alone sitting where it is on your desk or wherever it is...
Start the RUU, and then just follow the path the installer takes you through, then let it do its magic...
Ended up d/l Cyanogen.
Installed it.
Working, detected networks, wifi is connected.
All good I suppose.
That was a bit scary!
Thanks for your help mate.
So, figured I'd attempt to root the thing today via the AAHK on my locked DHD. According to the effen manual, I won't need to gold card it beforehand either.
I went through the process, and I was told that the ROM that I had installed (2.5.3? Sense 3.0) had to be downgraded, so I went ahead with it. After downgrading, I was brought to an unresponsive bootloader. Being patient enough, I let it sit while I watched a movie, yet nothing happened after. I took out the battery and restarted it, and all I got was the Hutchinson 3G (my carrier) logo and it just stops there.
When I try booting in recovery mode to get to the bootloader, it does so, but it hangs.
After enough tinkering, I noticed the bootloader was only responsive once I rebooted without the memory card inserted. The phone itself is still inaccessible as it just stops at the 3G logo.
So far, I've tried to restore it through an RUU, but since it's still (I assume) carrier locked, I have to find the ROM that shipped with it. Unfortunately, I can't find a ROM that caters to Hutchinson 3G ROI (Ireland), so right now I'm downloading a UK version of it to see if it works. Apart from that, any recommendations on what I could do next?
Thanks :3
people are gonna need a little more info eg. what does it say on the boot screen s-off etc
what rom your trying to flash, formatted sd-card or not, possibly a corrupted download
AAHK does the business well, but can baulk at the slightest thing.
fairly new to some of this myself, but learning, my DHD took 4 attempts to finally do now on JT R4
Oh, mmkay:
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-0.85.0024
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.09.04.11_M2
eMMC-boot

-----------------------------
Anything else I should include up there?
As for the ROM, I wasn't trying to flash anything bar the one that was downloaded through the AAHK client itself during the downgrade process.
After more tinkering, I've decided to leave it till today afternoon. Though I've made a few observations; so far
- The bootloader works fine when I turn it on WITHOUT the memory card
- The phone gets detected under the name "Android 1.0" when plugged in via USB both in hboot and fastboot. The fact that it gets detected I'll assume is a good thing
- Which leads to the second bit; it can be restored, since I've tried an Asian DHD ROM. It didn't complete because I was apparently supposed to find the appropriate ROM for it, which I assume is the H3G ROI version of it
- Aaand, the ROM still won't load up, and gets stuck at the H3G boot logo.
- According to the effen manual, it could be that my SD card was corrupt, so now my intention is just to merely restore it until I can actually afford to attain another memory card, which will be in a good few weeks and I don't wanna be smartphone-less for that period of time. But the only problem is; how?
if memory serves there isnt a rom in AAHK. the zip you intend using should copied be on your sdcard and initiated via recovery - vol down and on button. you should also be "s" off - did it offer to downgrade first [if needed]
from the manual
Insert the SDCard into the phone
Boot the phone
Turn on USB Debugging (Yes, plug it IN - use original cable plugged directly into the system board.)
IMPORTANT: Turn phone to charge-only mode. The phone stays in charge-only mode throughout this entire process. To make sure of this, check the default (menu > settings > connect to PC > charge only)
Win7/Vista: Right click on hack-ace.cmd and start as administrator (This will start the tool and bring you to the main menu)

Install Clockworkmod
Clockworkmod version 5.0.2.7 -- yes
How to flash a custom ROM with ClockworkMod Recovery
Place the zipfile to be flashed on the sdcard. Do NOT unzip it.
Froyo disable Fast Boot: Menu > Settings > Applications > uncheck fast boot
Gingerbread disable Fast Boot: Menu > Settings > Power Options > uncheck fast boot
Turn phone off, no usb connected
Hold down vol- button, then press power to start, keep holding the vol- down button until Hboot menu shows up
Use the vol- down button to scroll down to recovery after some file checks are done (they will flash by quickly)
Press power to start recovery
Use vol down button to navigate, and the capacitive search button (bottom row of buttons, far right) to select
NOT VERY OPTIONAL/STRONGLY RECOMMENDED: If recommended by rom author or if flashing over another rom type (ex: cyanogenmod over anything else), wipe data/factory reset in Clockworkmod Recovery
Install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard > select zipfile > Yes - (name of zipfile)
Repeat choose zip from sdcard for any add ons (gapps, themes, kernels, etc)
Press back button when flashing is complete until "reboot system now" is at the top of the screen.
Press power to reboot the system.
If desired, return the fast boot setting to ON in settings. (See above)
once yu crack it you'll see where you were going wrong
radio flashing is the easiest way to brick if you dont know exactly what your doing 99.9% of other stuff is recoverable
restoration is a more complicated path than rooting for noobs
I'm aware that there's no ROM included with the AAHK, I'm referring to the one that was downloaded THROUGH the AAHK when it said I'm gonna have to downgrade it beforehand.
And with reference to hboot, that's where another problem lies; my memory card is the one causing hboot to freeze. Hence, removing it prior to booting is the only way to get to it.
can you rerun AAHK and make a goldcard during setup and go that route -- wont help i know but being as its still "s"on you can return under warranty aslong as you dont send sim and sd-card tell them it wont go past h-boot.
if you have a card reader then format the card to make sure its clean, the drag and drop the required files on it - i have a lappy solely for this job with AV etc permanently turned off
Well, I'll rerun AAHK when I can find the SD card adapter, but since I've only recently moved house, it's gonna be near impossible until I get time off to unpack, which, till then, I'm still gonna need a functioning phone, so right now, I'm just looking for ways to return it to stock :3
i cant assist any further then as i've not yet RUU'd any devices as of yet.
hope you get it sorted
Thanks for trying anyways :3
I've been searching for an Irish RUU. Currently trying a UK version of it hoping it MIGHT just work. Anyone have more ideas?
Edit: Ok it didn't. Posted on the Three Ireland support boards trying to see if I can get an RUU
So I have upgraded my i927 captivate glide using the ROM from , but I only Androidupdate com called I927UCLH2_I927ATTLH2_I927UCLH2_Home tar md5 but I get a black screen with a slide down menu saying the date ‘Ongoing’ and an option to change the way that the device connects to another computer.
The update stated pass, it booted and proceeded to tell me that it was updating apps or something like that, then a black screen with the pull down menu from the top of the screen near the usb symbol came up but nothing else. I got a message a few hours later stating that the update application or something like that was not responding and an option to wait or quit. I chose wait, but nothing came of it eventually.
I then proceeded to try reflashing the process with no success even after factory reset and rebooting.
I then tried the pre-release ICS update as per XDA developers and other websites. Same thing
I tried a few other ODIN programs and ROMs but no success. Same issues including the hang up on the Samsung logo. I tried rooting it once and for some reason it started up into what looked like the same pull down menu, but it was requesting that I needed an to input a lock code for the network. I assume that is because my sim card was in it by now, but maybe not. I got so frustrated that I tried the bootloader and update bootloader options using the official ICS update ROM for some stupid reason but nothing. The thing is that at least it booted into the pull down menu that i got with a black screen again.
I then flashed with an updated ICS, CWM6 but cannot do the:
Third: Reboot into CWM6 (Volume- and power) install from sdcard (superuser)
Link to superuser: Superuser-3.2-RC2-arm-signed zip
Forth: Repeat third step above but install keyboard fix.
Link to keyboard fix: CWM_keyboard_backlight_fix zip
since I do not have an SD card that is working. I did get the SD Card in the device but I have always had problems with the format of it and I cannot put the zips onto the card due to the computer Win7 not recognizing it. I tried reformatting the device is HPUSB format program and windows. I inserted the card into the device to hopefully have it recognized on windows, and i gave me an option to format the SD card. So I proceeded and success. I was able to put the Zips onto the card. However, I returned to the CWM6 screen by pressing the VOL- and power keys but the files were no where to be found on the SD Card.
I moved on after a few other tries at it, so I tried to go backwards to the Gingerbread ROM. No success, same hanging issue at the Samsung logo.
I then tried to reflash with the devices original ROM as provided by DroidAngel on androidupdate com. Both without success.
I wanted to try the process involved on the 'stuck on boot screen' thread, but I cannot access the zip files on the sdcard in order to be able to do that.
I also bought my phone unlocked from the US (ATT version) and had it sent to me in Canada unlocked so I cannot just return it to the seller to get a new one, so my new phone is pretty useless.
I have spent two days reading through and trying different fixes and updated ROMs on multiple sites but I just cannot figure out what the heck to do now. I know that this site is not to spoon feed people and I am a noob to all of this but I am out of ideas and cannot find anything else to help out.
Where do I go from here. Is there a possibility of reformatting EVERYTHING on the device including all partitions etc etc.? I mean the hardware is fine, it is just a software issue. I do this to my laptop whenever I get into a bind.
Have you tried booting into CWM and restoring factory?
sent from my captivate glide running ICS (NardROM 0.3 Rooted)
Just a note, the SD card you're seeing in CWMR isn't actually your physical SD card, its the internal phone memory. I don't think we have a version of CWMR that reads the real external SD unless modified. So anything you put on it won't show up there. The folder structure will look like ... /sdcard/external_sd/ where /sdcard/ is where you want to put your files for CMWR to see, /external_sd/ is your physical card you can take in/out.
I have tried to reflash with CWM6 using ODIN v3. I didn't realize that the SD card that came up was actually a part of the internal memory. Thanks to you both for the help.
Any other suggestions since no matter what I do now the phone simply stops at the Samsung logo and wont turn off? I press the power button for the required time to shut it down but it automatically restarts by itself to again sit at the Samsung logo.

A few questions about your situation right now:
Can you get into Download mode? (Turn off the device, in your case remove the battery. Press power en volume UP)
Can you get into CWM? (Turn off the device, in your case remove the battery. Press power en volume DOWN)
Does it keep asking you for the Network Key? Are you stuck at that particular point...?

Okay, so right now I can still get into the download mode to flash, the CWM6 to factory reset and reboot which I have tried already as stated, and I have not been asked for the network key again since the one time quite a long time ago. The network key is only asked when I load one of the other custom ROMS though, but I have not tried any of those in a while.
I am stuck at the black screen with white Samsung logo.
In CWM6, do you see "mounts and storage" (Second to last option)
If so, connect your phone with the USB cable and select "mounts and storage".
In there and select "mount USB storage" (Again, second to last option, you'll have to scroll to get to it)
Now your PC should see the USB storage which is in fact what is marked as internal SD. So the sdcard CWM can actually see and install things from.
Now you can copy a custom ROM to it, and install it through CWM. Or install anything that is in CWM format.
You may get the Network Key Request as before. I do not know if it can be bypassed by starting it without the SIM. If so, you could then try to unlock your device using one of the methods on the forum.
Alternatively, and highly recommended by yours truly, is to buy the unlock code.
It is somewhat common for these devices to re-lock, so having the code handy is very convenient. I used americanunlocker to get mine, and I put the code on the inside of the back-cover should I find myself re-locked in the middle of nowhere. The code works, and isn't that expensive. In fact, it's a steal if you look at your own time invested in all this in terms of hourly wage! Of course, you'll need the IMEI code. You can find that by removing the back-cover and the battery.
Good luck!
Got it running on Bio360 but 'Not Registered on Network' now

Thank you so much for the feedback, I actually had not thought about the unlock code idea, and since you put it into such perfect terms considering the time and effort that has to go into something like that, it is a good idea for sure to get one. The idea of keeping it on the inside of the back cover is another awesome idea. Kudos to you and thanks!
As for the rest of what you had stated about the mounting and what not; I actually mounted and successfully reflashed and installed all of the required files for the new ICS stock upgrade. The good news was that I got past the Samsung screen again and it said that it was updating all of the applications or whatever again, but then it just gave me the pull down menu again with very limited functionability.
I then used your suggestion to try out another ROM. I tried the Bio360 and followed all directions on the 'phone stuck on boot screen thread'. It worked! I finally have a functional phone again and will be able to get calls from my boss. Thanks!
Now that I know I have one option, I can explore any other options. I still cannot figure out how it is that I will be able to get the ICS upgrade but maybe I will try Kies.
However, I just found that I don't have network access anymore despite that I have a strong cell signal, so I presume that I will have to enter the unlock code somewhere. Where can I put that into? It didn't pop up to tell me anything.

You're very welcome! Glad to hear the phone is usable again. In order to get data back you will have to set your APN manually. Stock ROMs come with the APN settings for all providers it is expected to be sold with. But custom ROMs usually come without those settings. You can find the APN settings for your provider online, just do a search. There is even an app for it, but the name eludes me at the moment. You'll need wifi to get the app, though! Once the settings are in place (You put them in under wireless & Networks), you'll have data again.
As for the limited functionality, I had the same thing, at first. The upgrade was broken for me, I guess some settings/apps were causing problems. So, after flashing the upgrade, I did a factory reset in CWM. I also wiped the cache, and the Dalvik cache, for good measure(Under advanced in CWM). It rebooted, said it was upgrading and installing, and I let it sit for a few minutes. Then I was greeted by an initial setup screen, and the phone has been on a working ICS ever since! I did lose all my settings and such, but I had a back-up of those with Titanium Backup, and got those back that way.
Hope this will help as well.
